Reviews (page 3 of 13)
Brings back the memories from my youth!
If every R'n'B album would be like 'C'est Chic', then I would be the biggest fan ever of the genre. I am honestly in love with the bass line, the groovy rhythm and the wonderful vocals, rounding up the whole experience into an ultimate party. I think this is the first time I am essentially speechless, beacuse of how much this album surprised me. It's really hard to pinpoint any low moments on the album. There are two groups, that you can divide the songs into: - great songs - wonderful songs. The best way to describe how much I liked it - vinyl is on the way. Most deserved 5 stars yet.
Chic Cheer is a bold start Savoir Faire is an incredible instrumental jam Bangers: Le Freak, I Want Your Love, and Sometimes You Win 20+ musicians on this album all just nailin the vibe Nile Rodgers is a legend At Last I am Free is beautiful and amazing Sneaky Luther Vandross No skips
Really like this one
The is everything I want in a pop album. Fresh, funky and catchy as f#@k. Nice knew what he was doing.
YAY DISCO
Let’s Gooooo! This is a party. Sexy, danceable, smooth, fun. Even the slow jams were good.
Super good, I think really like disco.
Saint Nile of Rodgers...
Beautiful album.
So smooth and enjoyable to listen to. Love the way each track builds the elements.
Low 5, 9/10
😍😍
You gotta love this. If you love disco as much as I do. It's like it never ages. "Le Freak" and "I Want Your Love" are still found on party playlists in 2022 and it doesen't feel out of place at all. Love this stuff. This stuff I hadn't heard was great too.
erection music
Funky. Makes you wanna dance along.
Bangers
Pure Disco Greatness
Tre Chiq!
Great band of the '70. If you like this youd like earth wind & fire, Commodores, Koll & the gang
Majestic. From Nile Rodgers' signature guitar riffs glittering all over the show, to the funky driving basslines, this is one of THE disco classic albums.
A truly diamond disco record
Oh ho ho ho ho. Oi oi. Oh la la. Feel the sex running through your thighs.
C'est très chic.
Got to give this five stars, so nice to listen to this properly.
liked every song!
Super funky, super awesome
A funky and fun listen. Everybody has heard le freak before. Favourite track is savoir faire for sure, that guitar is fantastic.
Classic disco and funk from CHIC, nothing more to say than every song is fantastic
FUNKY AND FRESH! I feel like I am playing DDR in my mind.
The aesthetic of this album is so beautiful. It has a rich old-school sound that is just timeless. Definitely will be relistening.
Soft musical vocals with clean acoustic music are an amazing fusion for relaxation.
Glamuroso y majestuoso, el funky más elegante del mundo. Arreglos con estilo que suenan actuales aún y Nile Rodgers sublimando la guitarra. Espectacular
Just what the Dr ordered. Also appreciated the instrumentality
Excellent funky disco. No skippers on the album, just good danceable vibes.
disco gold
Grooovy baby
Funky funky funky
Ohhhh so this is where "freakout"! Is from
pretty cool
Makes me feels like going to the club and doing a dangerous amount of cocaine
Loved it
decent
not as good as Joni Mitchell’s Blue
Somewhat corny now, but I can imagine the revolution that was.
While very much a studio effort, there's definitely something that feels incredibly (a)live here. Each and every song inhales and exhales to ease into the groove that carries it for its runtime. Electronic music owes a lot to this album that's for sure, and that's before even addressing its immense influence on the dance music that followed. This also accomplishes the important task of exposing people to the monster hit that was "Freak Out." Known to my ears as the anthem to dance parties at the end of many a 2000s animated kids' movie, I've come to reassess "Freak Out" as the song that crawled so Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" could run. The true attraction here, top-tier disco aside, is Nile Rodgers himself. The cofounder of this group, Rodgers' playing is the link between about a dozen genres and more often than not he's just strumming the same 2 to 3 chords for minutes at a time. Few could ever influence so much with such economical playing. The disco tropes of sappy mid-tempo ballads with overwrought strings appears here mostly on the back half, but what would normally repel me from many a release is honestly not a problem here. I think it's the immense good will the first half built while I listened. I would say the A-side is definitely the better one. A must-listen for someone looking for the best disco had to offer in its heyday, and for others looking for the bridge that linked rock to dance. Key Tracks: Chic Cheer, Freak Out, I Want Your Love, Sometimes You Win
A fun trip down disco lane. One of many places Luther Vandross shows up before making his own records.
Wish I was dancing instead of driving when listening to this.
7 - solid
This record was a fun listen, though was repetitive at times. Favourite Track(s): Le Freak, Sometimes You Win Least Favourite Track(s): Happy Man, (Funny) Bone
A no skip album lots of fun and funk
Very cool. Saying the name of the band and the song is impressive. An extra star just for that
groove i can feel. i enjoyed that listen.
Fun record. Good for a live record. I give it an extra star because on of the best concerts I've ever seen was Nile Rogers and Chic
This entire album was such a party
The rest of the album is fantastic, even if Le Freak is extremely overplayed.
Le Freak is an absolute all-timer, and overall I enjoyed the grooves here more than Risqué.
Fun, funky, easy
Le Freak is the most recognizable song here, but everything on the album is just the epitome of late 70s Disco. Catchy hooks and groove.
This is good. It definitely gets same-y, but the joy and sheer fun of it makes it worth coming back to in the future. Maybe when I'm cleaning my house.
8/10
4/5 - if you’re gonna listen to disco, might as well be disco from one of the coolest MFers on the planet. I’m less into the slower tunes, but when Nile Rodgers hits the groove, I’m there. The production sound on this is superb.
Nah buenísimos
Some very good tracks but a couple v long and boring
I loved that disco album. It‘s very catchy and how you would imagine disco to be like. It‘s like a simmering butter. It keeps you engaged all the rhythm and the stuff. Songwriting isnt the best, its not a creative work but who cares?? It simply works. “Le Freak” and “At Last I am Free” are my favorite tracks. A solid 3.7/5
We can all agree that the world is a better place with Nile Rodgers in it, right? Brightened up a gloomy Monday morning. Can't help but do a little dance to these songs!!
Класичний диско/рнб-альбом. Мені б хотілося, щоб було більше диско і менше рнб, бо диско в них виходить дуже класно. Le Freak супер бенгер.
disco's highkey fire, especially slow disco
Nile Rodgers is a genius. I know this for a fact because I went to see him play live a couple of years ago and he spent much of the show telling the audience just how amazing he is. The weird thing is, if it was anyone else, it would have come across as unbearable bragging - with Rodgers, it was, well, fair enough. The body of work he's either directly produced or had a major hand in bringing to life is extraordinary. I bought a second-hand vinyl copy of this record back in the early 90s, way before Chic became cool again. I bought it because I assumed it would be cheesy and amusing, I really didn't expect to love it to bits as a genuinely masterful pop record. Nile Rodgers gets to bask in the glory these days, but bassist co-founder Bernard Edwards should be on a pedestal alongside him - his contributions were staggering and the way they played together is like nothing before or since. (Robert Wyatt's version of At Last I Am Free is better than the original - give it a listen.)
groooooooovy
This was so fun and lifted my spirits a bit today
Very well made for a disco album and since I don't rate many disco albums highly and that I enjoyed this, I'd give it a 4.
Rating:★★★★ Man lots of fun songs here. le freak is a classic, and the follow up in savoir faire surprised me. It wasn't as fun down the stretch in the last few songs but otherwise solid album.
Thanks to Studio 54 for not letting Nile Rogers in. It gave us this.
Very 80s movie soundtrack-esque, it makes me want to dance
if loving disco is a crime then lock me up
This was very cool and had me bobbing along throughout the whole thing Thoroughly ace
muitos papais e mamaes se conheceram enquanto dançavam alguma música desse album...que mágico...
AAAAAA FREAK OUT!
Unknowingly knew so many songs
SO GOOD really enjoyed, new songs discovered
It was awesome
Remember, the whole world's a circus, don't you be the clown.
Hearing this reminds me of when I was seven watching Diary of a Wimpy Kid and I just KNEW Rowley Jefferson was gonna bust out those sick moves
It was fun, it was funky, I had a good morning listening to it.
i had a great time
Another record and band whose sound is instantly recognizable. Nile Rogers shows greatness on this album. Dress up, forget about life for a while, dance and make love.
Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers. What more could you want? Not a style that I’m always in the mood for, but they’re such a great band.
Groovy. Listened while folding laundry/ chilling on my couch. Very groovy. Guitar was awesome. Lyrically simple. Felt cool/ like I was in a movie listening to it. Like the main character going through his morning routine.
great album. good for background and ambiance
Love it
I’m a big fan of Nile Rogers as a guitarist and as a person but have never listened to Chic beyond hearing the hits (though I have seen them live!) so this was a nice excuse to listen to a whole Chic album. As expected, it was a couple of classic tracks and a bunch of pretty great / nice tracks. Better than average though. I think it’s pretty listenable without feeling the need to skip songs.
A lovely blast of sunshine - helped by the fact its super hot today. I want your love's an absolute bop. Enjoyed it alot more than I was expecting. So influential.
Rodgers and Edwards. Pure class and perfect samples for garage /house music to come 20 years later. The bass in I Want Your Love is amazing. And a shout out to Dimitri From Paris for his remix album, bringing the disco into the house era.
Ufff, que genios!
Solo conocía Le Freak, pero la verdad que la banda es muchísimo mas que eso, no se porque otras de sus canciones no se hicieron mas conocidas que Le Freak
Chic Cheer - 3.5/5 Le Freak - 5/5 Savoir Faire - 3.5/5 Happy Man - 3.5/5 I Want Your Love - 4/5 At Last I Am Free - 3/5 Sometimes You Win - 3.5/5 (Funny) Bone - 3.5/5 I was only familiar with Chic due to Nile Rodgers' involvement with other songs, "Le Freak", and the number of samples their songs were used in. Listening to this, it's a pretty good disco album with a few non-disco songs to spice things up a bit. I think the songs tend to drag on a bit longer than they really should, but these are dance tracks so I can excuse that for now. Leaning on a 3.5 but I can bump this up to a 4 just from Le Freak alone. Overall: 4/5 Favorites: Le Freak, I Want Your Love
oh this is vibessss
Just a kickass disco album. No notes.
Funky
funky funky. everyone knows "le freak", but the rest are jams too.
An excellent disco album. Just groovy tunes the whole way through. My only complaint was that some songs seemed to go on for an unnecessarily long time. Could’ve cut a few measures and the songs wouldn’t have lost anything. Either way, I enjoyed it. There’s something so good about simple straightforward music you can dance to.
Peak disco. You can’t fail to have a good time listening to a Chic album. Tremendous work on the bass by Bernard Edwards deserves a mention too.
Groovy. I like it
Chic cheer - 3/5 Le freak - 5/5 Savoir faire - 5/5 Happy man - 4/5 I want your love - 4/5 At last I am free - 3/5 Sometimes you win - 4/5 (Funny) bone - 3/5
I really had a very good experience listening to this album, I started listening to it without much expectation and the truth is I ended up really liking it. the album has well-known classic songs by the band such as "le freak" or "i want your love" but at the same time, it has songs such as "savoir faire" with some very bluesy guitars, and "at last I am free" being the slow quota that the album needs at that point. very good, 4 out of 5 stars for me this time.
Loved this. Very fun to hear the originals to the many rap songs I grew up with. Added to library!
Definitely enjoyed the upbeat numbers more than the slower ones.
I love me a fun disco album
Classic, very groovy
Le Freak and I want your love are such a vibe.
only positive vibes
Put the funk in funky
YEAHHHHH
I always love it when you know a song which contains a sample then stumble across the original song (Chic Cheer - Faith Evans Love Like This). I’m guessing this is something that happens quite a lot with Chic and it is understandable as it is packed with rhythms and guitar lines that are perfect for sampling.
I bloody love Chic. Whenever I’ve picked up the bass (only sporadically mind) it has always been Chic that I’ve wanted to play (who playing the bass hasn’t wanted to play ‘good times’?). They are more of a singles band though, although the singles are great. Some of the latter tracks on here verged on more trite soul music and they are at their best playing funky hooks - the stacked front half can’t keep the pace up by the end. Really tight outfit though.
bass is immaculate, vibes are immaculate, everything is immaculate
It'll put a smile on your face. Disco aint dead! Embrace the funk. Nearly gave it 5 stars.
8/10… funk / disco / soul / *1978
and it's very chic !!!!! genuinely enjoyed this a lot :)
Great!
I definitely thought itvwas another new band Ihad never heard the music, but no! I knew some of the singles here. So the music, instrumental and delivery in these songs are so wfforless, so cool and chic, it does put you in a party mood and makes you want to dance. I thought it was too short, so I spin it twice and everyone in the house was happy. So good to know this is in the list, I used to hear these song on easy listening station in Brazil (long live AlphaFM, I underestimate how many grrat songs I heard there). 4/5
real groovy. Mostly background noise but thats alright
👍👍
Hyvä meininki koko levyn! Fiilasin.
Disco? But make the album jazz too? Some of the songs are too long but surprisingly better than I expected
Funky! Enjoyed this
Not a fan of jazz but this was pretty good
Very enjoyable listen with multiple iconic tracks
Pretty solid disco album, though "Le Freak" is the only real standout. I actually did like the slower ones a lot too, maybe I wouldn't on the dance floor but I'm actually sitting at a desk right now.
Absolute classic, my mom loves Le Freak, she used to make me listen to it when i was 6. although a very short album a absolute must
The very definition of 80s Disco
Not a music style that I would listen on the regular, but I kind of enjoyed the vibes. Let's say I appreciate it enough.
Not first time listen.
Loved this funky as hell great for gym cuz so fun wow
fucking groovy man I love disco tracks 2-6 were like five star album then either side a little weaker but im trying to get so into disco rn
No amo el disco pero este disco es muy bueno, un soundtrack perfecto para trabajar con ganas.
Positively surprised. Some very good songs, even though it is not my typical go-to genre. Savoir faire is definitely my favourite and will be coming back to some songs. Overall very solid record
7/10
Holly does not know the difference between Nile Rogers and Neil Diamond.
Funky
I imagine a whole lot of Gen X babies were created while listening to "Savoir Faire-" what a smooth-ass song that is. Of course there are several classics here- "Le Freak," "I Want Your Love." Luther Vandross appearing here was a nice touch. Everything sounds really great, honestly. I would relisten and probably still enjoy.
Nile Rogers sure knows how to make a groove catchy. Undeniable levels of funk.
Wait, this is what disco was this whole time?
I loved it, there were songs that I knw beforehand and really enjoyed it
Like it! But not my favorite from Chic.
Real damn cool
Ok some of it drags, but if Niles and Bern can't get you moving you're dead inside
immediately replayed after first listen then again n again.. its alright
Funky
3.5 stars. Groovy fun disco time. Standouts are the wedding reception dance-floor hit "Le Freak" as well as "At Last I Am Free"
Me gusto mucho, por mas de que es "viejo" se siente full atemporal
movido, buen album totalmente opacado por el hit mas hit q tienen
Disco hit. Not sure if it was carried by the mood I was in but very fun listen
Pretty solid! Went into this one pretty ambivalent but it's a real good funk album. Only one track I didn't really like but otherwise a good listen.
I was so close to giving this a 5 but i feel like it drags on for longer than it actually does
Solid album with some great songs!
Maybe that's not my style, and maybe I enjoy a bit deeper lyrics and these felt seriously lacking, but that was actually quite fun to listen to. Very danceable. The instruments sound great. Loved the bass especially. 3,5 stars, rounding upwards because it was FUN.
nile rogers is a magician. imo chic isnt having a city pop level revival bc orientalism and weeaboos
Wow. C'est Chic Indeed! Unsicher öb das Heuschnupfe isch oder s Disco Fieber wo mi grad packt. 4.5 starchi disco Pirouette
my first disco album ! very nice sounds. i think some of the songs ran a bit long for the content of the songs but i imagine if i was actually dancing to it i wouldn't mind it at all :)
Never cared much for disco, but Chic is definitely a standout in that genre. Great musicianship and lots of energy. Bernard Edwards' bass is a highlight. That dude has some grooves! 4/5
Overall: 7/10 This took a couple songs to really click with me, but once it did I was all in. I'm sure I'm not the only person to mention how great the bass playing is on this thing, but it truly is exceptional. Funky, danceable and fun. Fav Song: I Want Your Love
now this was fun! A little repetitive at time but a good time for sure
That was groovy. No idea why it's on this list, but I enjoyed it.
Bien 80so, habian varios temones solo uno no me cerro, happy man. Siento q es el menos original capas.
This one was fun!!! Wanted to dance the whole time - savoir faire was magical
Ken is that your disco tux???? but fr this seems more like a one hit wonder band than a necessary listen. Still funky though. 4 stars.
Slays
Yuppppp disco forever bitch!!!!
Solid stuff. A few songs I've heard too many times but overall the album was vitchin'
Cool fun and funky
I started listening to this while walking from one building to another at work and realized I was strutting. I tried to just walk and couldn't. You HAVE to strut to it. And then the lyrics kicked in saying, "Everybody strut," and I thought, "You don't have to say it, baby, you already told me through your funky disco beat." I'm still strutting.
Surely everyone will realize instantly that they’ve heard Le Freak before. Fortunately, this album contains much more than a one hit wonder disco anthem. I enjoyed this one nearly front to back, with Funny Bone and At Last I Am Free being the only misses.
Groovy bass lines and Nile Rodgers guitar work is timeless. I think the only negative I can give is some of the tracks get repetitive at times, but that can only be expected with dance music. Overall a great artist and album that'd I'd gladly listen to again.
Just good fun!
A little more disco and instrumental than I am used too. Still catchy. The world is a circus. Don't be the clown.
Surprised at how good this was. Tight tracklist, some great grooves, absurdly catchy, and not as dated as you’d assume a disco record to be.
We are all le freaks at some point and what better time than now?
Fun funky disco. Some recognizable hits and plenty of variety.
It’s defo hit or miss. High highs and some bleh lows. Fun fact is that this and life after death by biggie are the first albums I ever bought! Picked em up in a charity shop what a fateful day that was
Are you kidding me?! This is a disco album which has one largely novelty hit. I dreaded this one when I got it. But holy platform shoes Batman. This album absolutely jams. Long funk jams, crazy hooks. This is why I’m doing this list.
You can trace a line from modern electronic music back to house music, and a line from house music back to disco - specifically Chic. Hypnotic instrumentals on loop for minutes at a time, four-to-the-floor drum patterns, *perfect* basslines, Nile Rodgers playing his signature strutty guitar patterns, and maybe just a handful of vocal toplines. One can hear how Daft Punk took a lot of inspiration from/paid homage to Chic on their debut album Homework. Outside of the obvious first to songs that have been played the world over, I have a few favorites here. “Savior Faire” is a break from the danceloor tempos, with soaring strings and a reverb-laden guitar solo that feels like a rendezvous to a beach somewhere overseas. Then, I really revere “I Want Your Love” as the quintessential Chic track to pick from the bunch. Perfected hook with that bell added in, great bassline. Disco distilled to its hypnotic essentials. Light 4/5 for this one, while there isn’t a ton of variation, it’s such a honed, infectious sound
Makes you dance, even if you resist it 🕺
Funky
Mmmh bien groovy et tout bien kiffant. Freak out ? whaaat ? ref au premier album wtff
Obviously I think pretty much everyone has heard Le Freak before in their life. It’s a banger and a great disco tune. What everyone probably hasn’t heard is any other song from this album and that’s a shame because having listened to it now, it slaps!
Dannncinngg vibing to this, so solid, 8/10 Top 3 Tracks: 1. Savoir Faire 2. At Last I Am Free 3. Sometimes You Win
This was super groovy. Really enjoyed the disco vibes and the smooth silkiness of it all.
I feel the same about this album as the other CHIC album, ton of fun
Disco time! I really dug the instrumentals
A great disco album. I remember kids in 4th grade freaking out to Freak Out, dancing in class when the teacher put it on the turntable (creative english teacher!). First time listening to the whole album. Can hear the nods to gospel influences & the jazz affinity for “European style” (jazz and disco were more widely appreciated in Europe than where the forms originated — why would that be, I wonder 🤷). Some moments drag, but on the whole, it’s a jam! A 4, for its musicality and influence in later artists.
Yeheeesss
Enjoyed hearing this. Disco in its heydey always had its weirdly cheesy tics, and there are some on this album too, but Chic were serious artists (Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards) were serious artists and these songs are well-crafted and beautifully played.
Perfect energy for a nice sunny morning
CLASSIC!!
I mean it’s so fun! I didn’t know many of the tracks prior to listening to this album but I couldn’t help but groove along, sing to the catchy lyrics and dance away. It brings happy vibes and honestly I think it’s aged pretty well!
Never had a great amount of experience with Disco music, but I really did dig this. Instantly recognised the guitar strings in "Chic Cheer", as sampled by Fatman Scoop. "Le Feak" is a classic, and the romantic guitars and bass in "Savior Faire" were gorgeous. "Happy Man" was a really groovy track too and, as I understand it, the Bass player Bernard Edwards sang on this one; he did a great job. "I want your love" is another classic with a smooth bass and catchy lyrics. All round, its just a really good album, full of feel good music. I will give it the 4 though, as there does appear to be little variation in emotional tone across the album.
Good vibes here! Fun to play the sample game, songs are times a little long and samey but it would be a good thing to dance more at a party! Maybe it's just that I'm listening to the remaster but some of these songs are too long and at last I'm free is boring. Still though most of these are fun, do I like disco?
Very chic love
"At last I am free" is such a great listen.
Great listening, do ambient.
Funky. I had never heard this band name before, but I had definitely heard Le Freak. Overall a very fun record.
My dad, for whom gave me a pathway into really enjoying music, was a big 70s music guy. With that, you either loved or hated disco. He was firmly in the latter camp, not for any homophobic reasons, just for oversaturation reasons. Now that I'm older and grew up with this idea that you can hear anything in recorded human history (for now before it's saturated with AI bullshit) with a simple search engine query. So I had a more open minded view of disco, understanding its importance within and beyond electronic music and what was actually good about the genre, which was the bass. Stayin' Alive is a dreadful song to me (I do not like the Bee Gees), but that bass is what makes that song work so well. But even before streaming music, I liked disco through that late 2000s era of post punk revival which produced dancepunk, a mashup of punk rock with disco beats/element to the mix. This made some pretty good music like Death From Above 1979 and Does It Offend You, Yeah? as well as influencing James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem. So here today I am selected with Chic's second album, featuring the famous Le Freak. For the most part, C'est Chic is an enjoyable record and sets out to achieve what its meant for: mindless fun. Just a good album to get loose too and vibe. The instrumentation is tight (as was the style at the time, etc) and that's what helped make Niles Rodgers the big bucks. Big shout out to the bassist Bernard Edwards for without his role, this record would be shit.
Very funky, very chill. Faves: Le Freak, Savoir Faire, I Want Your Love, At Last I Am Free
Millimeters from perfection.
So engaging throughout except for at last i am free, but the rest is so fun and well-developed
Nile Rodgers is a groove monster i have no idea how to even put into words how smooth he is with it! Tony Thompson is crazy tight. Mostly a band creating atmospheres and letting them ride and I can't complain about it! had a great time
Honestly kinda liked it, didn't expect to like it but good listening for the background
Brings me images of disco balls and roller skates.. Which is groovy.
That was a lot of fun! I of course knew "le freak", but the rest of the album was great too.
Never listened to CHIC before. Couldn't believe there were this many iconic songs on one album
Nice
Great dance album! Lots of fun to listen to.
Got to say this is good. Never heard a Chic album before, obviously the singles but not an album. Shame on me, the playing is so spot on, the groove. Definitely be revisiting, In fact bought 1 of those 5 original albums before ended 1st listen. Niles Rogers, HOF, could listen to that rhythmic styling all day. And those baselines. 4 Star
Hell yeah
went in expecting another of those one good song on a full album kinda listens but it rules actually
I've now found out how Nile Rodgers became famous. His guitar work on "C'est Chic" is great. The album could've gone without name-dropping CHIC in the first track. "(Funny) Bone" has to be the worst on "C'est Chic", being on a lower level than the other tracks. Despite this, the album is actually worth listening to. 4 stars for "C'est Chic".
Veľmi dobrý album. Na disco 5 hviezdičiek. Najzaujímavejšia je at last i am free...
Legendddd
Chic is just super tasty funk wow. Rodger’s on the guitar esp has his magic. I don’t think there’s a single bad track on this run
This album is so funky, I love it. The bass is so great, and Rodgers' guitar work is wonderful. What a tasty album.
Very fun album. Super close to being a 5 but I’m just not really a fan of the shout chorus vocals, I preferred the sound of At Last I Am Free because it was a bit more stripped down and I really liked the instrumental track Savoir Fair. The bass playing is insane on this album
Strong 4. This was such a fun listen! I love the classic disco sound, it just puts you in a good mood. “Le Freak,” “I Want Your Love,” and “Funny Bone” are definitely the standouts for me. Incredible production and super fun songs. It just makes you want to dance!
What a fun listen! Just about every song is a groove. Nile Rodgers on guitar, Tony Thompson in drums and Bernard Edwards - my all-time favorite bassist. The only track that doesn’t measure up is At Last I Am Free - a 7-minute repetitive ballad. But everything else was a vibe.
I kinda thought this was gonna be one of those albums where the whole world knows the songs so much that it’s hard to evaluate on its own merit, but then listening to it it’s just such solid feel good disco that I found all that melt away to leave just a really fun upbeat listen
A joy to listen to. Sometimes the songs go on a little long but who doesn’t love a little disco
Een leuk disco-album. Bekende liedjes, nu weet ik waar ze vandaan komen.
now that was chic and fancy and funky
Funky and groovy disco album, funny enough the song everyone knows from this album is not actually my favorite of the bunch. I vastly prefer the chill and sweetly played "Savoir Faire". Those guitar licks are so so so so amazing, I knew Nile was a great guitarist from a technical point of view, but hearing him show off like this was a real treat. "Happy Man" was a great song especially with the bass groove, and "I want your love" was a great jam from all members firing on all cylinders. This record didn't blow me away as a whole, but I would definitely return to it for a good time groove.
Loved this!! It sounds like if silk and warm lighting was an album. This is the perfect amount of fun disco but also smooth songs with beautiful and delicate vocals. The album cover matches the feel of the album exactly. Fav songs: savoir faire, I want your love, at last I am free
😃
I didn’t know I liked disco
Liked it all except At Last I Am Free. That song was annoying. I didn't realize I knew Le Freak until it came on! 4/5
Really enjoyed this - more than I thought I would! Wasn't too one note, although at first it felt repetitive. Loveeeeee
A proper classic
I was surprised that most of the album is instrumental. I would love to get the sun vinyl and have it in the background at a party.
Pretty good R&B album! Le Freak is a classic, of course.
384/1089 - Too repetitive but also pretty good sounding musically.
Funky
The production is great, the rhythm section is funky and tight, it's great. It's a little repetitive at times, but in a cool trance kinda way. The lyrics are mostly nothing special, but everything else is.
-very fun to listen to -exquisite instrumentation -8 tracks is right amount for this style
Nice disco funk
Really enjoyed this album. Obviously knew the massive hits - 2: Le Freak or track one on b side 5: I Want Your Love (5: Happy man also/ ace) but the indulgence of At last I'm free is totally delicious… the way the track fades out and leaves the piano on its own… no one wanted to stop or leave the studio. What a bass line too.
Lives up to the album name. Elite album , love the style and will revisit it again.
Jivey. Just top notch stuff for today. Love hearing the other tracks
I was dumbfounded by how good this sounded until I realized it’s Nile Rodgers’ and Bernard Edwards’ band. Goddamn. You could strip out everything but those two players on this album and it would still sound fantastic. This is what Daft Punk wanted their last record to sound like.
Fav: sometimes you win Honorable mention: le freak 4/5
Essential slice of disco/soul. Important by its own right, but also for the samples that keep this record reborn through the decades for new fans.
A solid, funky album. Enjoyed immensely.
Puts you in a great mood!
As with Risque, this is pure disco. Le Freak is one of those classic disco tunes everybody knows. All other tracks, even the slower ones, are nearly as good as Le Freak.
Groovy, funky, fun
THE definitive dance/disco album but a lot of these songs could have had a minute shaved off en
This is a great album.
disco music that's classy and... well... quite chic, if i do say so myself. dancey music that has hints of jazz and r&b within the disco grooves. compared to other disco records, instead of a sleazy nightclub, this is a album suitable for a clean, shiny country club. i found it nice to kick back and let the music play as my mind drifted off... at the end of the day though, it is still disco music, so don't expect anything life-changing here.
The warm and smooth production is top notch, with that popping bass tone being a particular highlight. The minimalistic intro 'Chic Cheer' kicks the record off with style before jumping into the disco anthem 'Le Freak'. The 7 minute 'At Last I Am Free' may serve as the record's slow jam, but it goes on far too long and dampens the fun vibe a tad. This is a damn fine record that uses repetition to its advantage to get those funky grooves burnt into your brain and to get your butt moving
bueno
Smooth like butter. And has a classic on top of that?!!!
Disco is great, so this was a lot of fun to listen to, albeit pretty repetitive in certain sections which definitely means I have to dock a star
Tony Thompson 😎 Bernard Edwards 😎 This group was a friggin supergroup of musicians. Also, the production on this album is top drawer, as is everything Nile Rodgers touches. The people in this group were far, far more influential, across multiple genres, than maybe some people realize.
How can you hate this?
🕺🪩
Really great Funk/Disco album. Not a single skippable song on the album. Also didn’t know Le Freak was from this record.
Le Freak is a classic. It's good disco.
That was a lot of fun! I enjoyed it.
YES!!! I love me some disco I'm mostly familiar with the work of Nile and Bernard through their production work for other artists and weirdly through the supergroup of The Power Station so this was fun to work backwards in their career.
The bass and guitar work is carrying this record. Disco gets pretty repetitive (especially with how long some tracks are) but the grooves from these instruments made most songs really interesting
Lovely album, but I get tired of the disco sound quite quickly.
Skönt sväng från tidigt i discoeran. Tight med spelglädje. Vilka basister det fanns då! En fyra
Nice album. Have never listened to anything beyond the hits but really enjoyed the grove.
boney m vibes, cutesy chic coquette lana del rey vinyl jazzy this with a jazz hand, wearing a fedora as we speak
So groovy, love the bass. Some songs draw on a bit. 3.75/5
Great soul and funk.
Def a 3.5. The ones that slap, SLAP. The ones that miss, are a total snooze. But essentials here!
Groovy man
C'est chic
Very good. Highlights with Le Freak and I Want Your Love.
An excellent album, although some of the second half not quite achieving banger status
Super groovy and chic!
Enjoyed more than I thought I would. Fun smooth easy listening. Would return back to this one
Anything involving Nile Rodgers gets a minimum 4 stars.
ameiii, curto um disco fugindo do básico. de início uma decepção por não ser francês, mas se redimiu depois. gostei muito mesmo de le freak (clássico), savoir faire, i want your love e at last i am free. um álbum que faz jus ao nome da lista
Funky fun. Starts off very strong but tapers off a little towards the end. Still great.
wait this one is kinda fresh tho
"Do us a favor and get up and dance!" opens the record before a full-on celebration of disco (and bedroom disco sticks). Really striking use of strings, which helped me appreciate how well arranged disco can be. Formula? Of course. I loved the Pure Funk CD as a kid, which had a few songs deeply inspired by (or the inspiration for) this album. I suspect it hasn't ever been done as well, cover to cover, as this. There are a few songs (At Last I Am Free) where the 7-minutes drag a bit at your desk. That said, this album isn't really meant for listening at your desk. Try 7 minutes in heaven, amirite
Easy listening disco
This was really fun! I think it perfectly executed what it intended to do which was to be an album that just makes you want to dance. For the first leg I was absolutely in love but I would be lying if I didn’t say the second half fell off a little for me personally. It wasn’t bad by any means, I think it might have just began to get a little repetitive. I do however think all the songs are at least good, and it’s a very breezy album to get through. Really good stuff though, favourites are probably Chic Cheer, Le Freak, Savoir Faire, Happy Man and I Want Your Love.
8 - GOOD
Lekker funky.
Freaked out.
Nile’s Roger’s has such a distinct sound that unfortunately it often makes songs sound too samey.
Erinomainen discojytäklassikko!
Once again Chic delights with hits and fantastic disco tunes.
The first 5 notes of this album are in the chorus and verse respectively of "Love Like This" and "Be Faithful", just switched around. The tone is instantly recognizeable and that great bass and guitar just go through this album the whole way. I really liked “Savoir Faire” mostly for the guitar, but it’s a good track all around. It dragged on a bit too long at the end but otherwise this a good time that hides some really incredible playing.
I was surprised to leave the disco songs but delighted with the later tracks. Might add a few of these to my cookout classics mix.
