*2004. *Wild modern disco album. *Interesting, upbeat, and kinda fun, but definitely a struggle to get through an hour of this. RATING - 5.5/10

Almost a 4, but ultimately didn’t want to listen to it a third time, so is it really?

I listened to a Todd Rundgren album last week, and this one really reminded me of that. Can’t say I loved everything on the album, but I will say I was thoroughly entertained all of the way through. Turning Comfortably Numb into a electronic disco song that sounds like if Stayin’ Alive was made 20 years later was quite the choice. Groovy album.

Not my thing but it's good. I didn't expect to see 2004 - this is definitely a throwback sort of album. Well executed. On paper I should love this, I'm gonna have to explore why I wasn't over the moon. Maybe it'll require a few more listens.

I was familiar with a track or two and didn't mind it, though I'm not likely to give it many more listens outside of a couple of songs I saved. Overall, the shifting vibes from track to track just didn't quite hit the spot for me.

What is this? And the cover of Comfortably Numb... why?

this is some good stuff what the hell

Starts amazingly strong. Must have made Elton John nostalgic when it first came out. But it can’t maintain its momentum for the whole thing so the last few songs are a bit of a slog.

solid fun

I was back and forth on this one. Some I didn’t like, but there were a couple of really good songs. I actually strangely liked the Pink Floyd cover of Comfortably Numb a lot.

You know what, I broadly enjoyed this. Apart from the atrocious Pink Floyd cover.

2.5 rounded down. I enjoyed some of it but not enough. Agree the pink Floyd cover is awful

Not my bag, but it's way better than the last two Tame Impala albums!

4 banger singles to start this one. I think its a good album, despite not being wholly unique or innovative, except for general LGBTQ progressiveness. The first 8 tracks are very fun, then I like it a bit less when its slower and more self-serious - but I do like that they construct the album in that way. Fave Tracks: Laura, Comfortably Numb, Mary, Music is the Victim 4/5

I had this cd at some point in the hmv 2 for 10 window after it was released and I can remember being very hit and miss on it and not really listening to it much??? Absolutely should have given it another chance bc its an absolute cracker actually. More alt pop albums should have a Pink Floyd cover at track 3.

Perfect glittery nonsense

For the longest time I thought these guys were a bunch of women. In my defence, if you saw a band called something like 'The Blowjob Brothers' you'd expect it to be full of men, no?

Not really my thing, but wasn't too bad

I was actually enjoying this and then their cover of Comfortably Numb came on. Fuck this band

Pretty decent, somehow felt a bit long even though the actual runtime isn't that long

The skins en Get It Get It waren heerlijk!

Nee Zijn alle nummers even goed? It can’t come quickly enough vind ik wel vet.

Het is allemaal good fun, easy listening, een beetje gay en I like it.

This is like Phish maybe. It’s for a specific kind of person that I’m not.

Catchy, funky, and pretty great. Always knew "Take Your Mama Out" but had forgotten about the cover of Comfortably Numb. Just a great album.

Before listening to the album, I recalled Scissor Sisters being a one-hit wonder, but I ended up recognizing the first three tracks. I could have easily stopped listening after those three songs, as the rest of the album didn't have much to offer.

First listen

This was okay. A more modern take on Elton John-ish? "Take Your Mama" and "Filthy/Gorgeous" were the only songs on here I was familiar with, and were definitely the standouts

Some of these songs, like "Bicycle of the Devil," have the most bizarre and unsettling lyrics. The beats are good, but I'm not sure I can get past the distracting lyrics.

What if The Darkness learned the correct lessons from music they are inspired by

Ich hatte erwartet, das schrecklich zu finden. Tatsächlich fühlte mich stellenweise ziemlich unterhalten. "Filthy / Gorgeous" ist zudem ein brutaler Ohrwurm.

Ziemlich gut, starke Tendenz zu vier Sternen. Gebe ich mir nochmal.

Well-produced and well-made pop music. Catchy, melodic and disposable. I can respect it, but I still don't care for it.

Aside from the awful cover of Comfortably Numb, a fun album. Unfortunately that cover knocks it from a 4 to a very strong 3

Very fun listen! Great queer-laced homage to a blend of 70's influences.

It can’t come quickly enough это легенда. Понравилось идея в Return to Oz.

There could've been a world where I enjoyed this, but unfortunately, in this world, their later hit "I Can't Decide" became the subject of ten billion fancam edits, and that association has kind of tainted the whole band's output for me. That alone probably wouldn't have tanked it all the way to 2 stars, but to be honest, they just didn't really sell me on the pomposity and grandeur they're trying to convey either. They should've stuck to disco covers of Pink Floyd; that one was at least novel!

Very strange choice for the album list, but ya know what? It was kinda fun!

I'll just say it, I hate the Pink Floyd cover on here; the idea has potential but it sounds like their heart is not in it at all. It's weird, too, because the rest of the album shows that they can make some pretty danceable and funky disco songs. Solid listen for the most part! Standouts: Take Your Mama • Lovers In The Backseat • Return to Oz

Man I actually HATED this on first listen, just absolutely despised it. This is why I do two listens! What a cool album. Danceable but keeps it interesting. Goes from introspective to silly and back. It Can't Come Quickly Enough might be my song of the week. Comfortably Numb is definitely an interesting choice for a disco cover and while I can't unilaterally call myself a fan, I think it's very creative.

I've never liked Scissor Sisters. I recognized a couple songs, but didn't really know any. It wasn't as bad as some other stuff I've had to listen to.

This was really good, super energetic.

I would have said I was a fan of Scissor Sisters as I grew up listening to "Ta-Dah", however I see now that I've been missing out on so much more! This album was incredible from the start, a funky groovy 40min delight! As a fan of psychedelic and funky music the cover of "Comfortably Numb" is an absolute masterpiece!!!

Great tunes and talent thx

Ts is so buns bro, i hate white Americans

Not bad.

What a fantastic combination of retro-glam rock and modern electronic rock. As opposed to some of the other retro-bands of that era -- for example, the Vines -- the music still holds up.

I enjoyed this much more than I expected to. I always hated Take Your Mama, but this time, I found I enjoyed it - and several other tracks, too (but not Comfortably Numb). Three stars for an album I thought would get only two.

This album doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be. Some good songs here and there, but suddenly it seems like “Staying Alive” will start playing. Best song: Mary

Rock, Pop, 2004 -> 3

Disco is for some, not for me. The Pink Floyd cover is definitely in the "love it or hate it" category, and I don't love it.

Album #165: Scissor Sisters Genre (W): Glam rock, electroclash, nu-disco Singles: Laura, Comfortably Numb, Take Your Mama, Mary, Filthy/Gorgeous I have not listened to this album before. Thoughts?: I believe the later half has some more cohesion involved. I didn’t like the cover of Comfortably Numb. But I enjoy the production of this album. Favorite tracks: Mary, Lovers in the Backseat, It Can’t Come Quickly Enough, Return to Oz

I'm not wholly sure what I expected - a boring shoe-gazing synth-pop record or something. It's upbeat, the songs are pretty catchy and it's mostly interesting. They vary things and keep it eclectic throughout the record.

A NYC band here that is unfamiliar to me. The music is basically pop/electronic/disco. Track #3 is a cover of “Comfortably Numb” which sounds like the Bee Gees. Another track (“Mary”) has Elton John vibes. There’s a hint of David Bowie in here too. The album is stronger towards the beginning in my opinion. If the end of the record were as strong then it would rate four stars. Still, a strong 3.5.

Another artist that my cousin Elaine liked (along with Franz Ferdinand and MIKA). I didn't really like them, although maybe that's just because I was sick of hearing from my mom about how cool they were because my cousin said so!!! (The Magnetic Fields are also cool!!!) Anyway, I did go on to use the song 'Laura' on mix CDs for my friend Laura (and now that we've had a few albums with "shamone"s on them I know it's not an SS original!). As a cover, I hate this version of 'Comfortably Numb', but if I assume it is just a totally different song, then it is fine. Sounds a bit like 'Relax'. Overall I guess this genre is up my alley, and I enjoyed listening to the album. Did I 4-enjoy it? I think I 3.5 enjoyed it, and my lingering resentment will lead me to round it down. The guy singer is on on Broadway now though; good for him. Highlight: 'Music Is the Victim'

Ok. Not what I was expecting. Don’t know what I was expecting, but this wasn’t it. Have to admit I had a lot of fun listening to it, particularly once I got over the awful cover of Comfortably Numb and realized what this was: A Cabaret Show! Visualizing all the musicians in elaborate costumes/ drag helped. Then the weird mash up of Prince and disco, Queen and edm made WAY more sense, as did that fore mentioned cover of Pink Floyd that honestly tried to be a unique take, but shouldn’t have tried, at all. So… 3 Boolean: true?

Glam. So much.

Didn't give this much of a chance at the time, but it's really fun.

Never though i would like a high pitch voice cover of comfortably numb, but here I am. A bit front loaded but I found it very unique sounding.

Don't like it, couldn't listen to it. So boring.

I had no idea this was going to be this good.

Nagyon tetszetos, funky hangulat aztán a közepén vagy egy kisebb depis hangzású szám ami caught me off guard, de all in all nagyon jó.

HUGE blind spot for the past 20 years, especially considering how much I love 'Take Your Mama'

8/10… dance pop / funky / *2004

Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters. I heard of this band name and for unknown reasons I assumed that it was some weird death metal or something in that direction. I actually only recognized the band name; I guess I never viewed any album covers. So I was quite surprised to hear something completely different. But unfortunately, it is almost worse than death metal. The wiki says it is a glam rock band—well, I don't know the exact boundaries of what you can call glam rock, but this is definitely not in my definition. The first two songs maybe, which were quite okay. It is like Mick Jagger singing in his falsetto on top of Britpop-like pop-rock. But then the tragedy starts with the most terrible cover of any song I ever heard. How dare you touch "Comfortably Numb" . The plastic electronic disco shit kicks in with someone who thinks he is in the BeeGees. The rating I had in mind dropped very quickly from 3 back to 1. Several songs I could not finish to the end as my ears hurted too much. Luckily I checked the original tracklist and I could skip the bonus tracks. 1/5

It wasn't terrible. Is that a full review? A bit more disco than I like. Return to Oz was good.

Enjoyed more than I expected. Definitely some stinkers in there, but overall enjoyable.

What a flash in the pan they were.

An amalgamation of every good thing (Supertramp, Prince, theater, disco, electronic, funk, Beck, gay)

Awful, bland middle of the road tat.

good overall filled with classics just not for me

This mix of glam and electronic does not work for me. The Bee Gees vocals and grating. The Comfortably Numb disco cover is horrible. There are some cool bass lines though and it wasn’t offensively bad so I’ll give it a 2

This is #day761 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… this is one of those weird entries on the list. While it's an excellent electroclash/pop record from the early '00s, I'm not sure it's a must-hear before you die. "Laura" was all over the music channel M1 here in Ukraine back in 2004, and I loved that tune. It definitely pulls at certain strings, taking you places, you know. Interesting time for music, all in all. Another band that comes to mind from those years is Body Without Organs... Anyway, I listened to the whole record for the first time roughly two years ago. "It Can't Come Quickly Enough" is a gem. This is a 4 out of 5. Looking forward to #day762.

One a lot of my friends raved about when it came out but I never got the hype. So I did have preconceptions of this album. At times my preconceptions were correct but actually the album really surprised me! Im pretty sure they made the album exactly as they thought they would when they started it. Disco fun to put a smile on peoples faces, I mean who can’t smile at ‘tits on the radio’ All that been said however the album had the singles and then it had a lot of filler for my personal taste so I wasn’t too far out with how I felt the album would go. Best track- ‘filthy gorgeous’ I think this showcases what the band are. Worst track- ‘comfortably numb’ or could also be ‘better luck’ 6.5/10

Scissor Sisters Was fun. The singles were great. Tits on the Radio was great. It flagged towards the end and Better Luck and It Can't Come Quickly Enough were kind of filler. Not sure why they went all Genesis on the closer either - whoever opted for that thin guitar sound wants shooting. Oh yeah, the Floyd cover was a crime against humanity. Best Track - Filthy / Gorgeous Worst Track - Comfortably Numb 7/10

An unbelievably fun album. Love the elements of dance mixed in with the glam rock and what is effectively a Bee Gees version of "Comfortably Numb" (instant add to my covers playlist). Not perfect, there a bit of a lull in the middle, but I could get a lot worse on a Tuesday. 4/5

Not my taste, but I can see the vision

Треки take your mama и music is the victim

3,5 solid overall even if there are high and lows

Genial. Gran disco

This was terrific! Reminds me of riding around in my old friends car. It also sounds like they are doing an impression of Elton John, or what Elton John would have sounded like if he didn’t have to “pretend” to be straight for 30 years.

Scissor Sisters were everywhere for a hot minute in my late teens. They had a slew of disco infused rock hits that dominated the airwaves. I've never gone past that so I'm interested to see what they offer. At the time this wasn't my jam : I was deep in System of a Down, Mudvayne and Slipknot's discographies. ------------------------------------------------------------- Elton John meets the Bee Gees. A recipe to make me want to perforate my eardrums with a rusty screwdriver. Look, I totally get the cultural impact and the foundations they set for many LGBTQ++ artists that followed. The vocals put me on edge. I had to listen to it in 6 shifts. I'd rather listen to anything else. Even bon Jovi. The bassist is actually good though. Can't go above a 1. 1*

I’m sorry but I tapped out in less than a song. I’ll still give it to for not having listened to it through, but I won’t

Never heard of this band and now I wish I never had to hear them. Annoying vocals overall with bouncy disco beats and a horrible Pink Floyd cover. There are some vocals that aren't too bad when he sounds more like Elton John but the majority of the album isn't the case. This one definitely wasn't for me and I won't be going back to give it another shot.

Had no idea what to expect from this band despite having heard their name for years. I love the more disco-inspired tracks, but the slow and mid-paced songs really drag the whole album down.
