1001 Albums Summary

Brilliant way to start off my journey! I sure hope the next album is just as good...

Genuinely made me feel a bit ill. Don't know why I gave this a 2 originally. This is why we listen to things a second time.

I think I might prefer this to Mezzanine, it's kinda cheesy in a way that really speaks to me

Wasn't sure whether to give this a 4 or a 5, but then they hit me with a delightful instrumental at the end

I remember when I was younger and we all shared an iTunes account, my brother had downloaded Smack My Bitch Up and I thought I'd get in trouble if I listened to it. I can see now I was missing out on some great music. Can't help but wonder what else I've missed out on because I didn't like swear words 😔

Having this on in the background while you do something else is probably the best way to listen to this kind of music. I could never see myself giving it a 5, but it's pleasant enough as background noise

Originally gave this a 4, but had to give it a 5 after listening to it again. It's so delightfully strange and you never know what to expect from one moment to the next

Good music if you need to get a headache

The way people talk about this album on the subreddit, I was expecting it to be a complete masterpiece. It's kinda weird at the start which I like, but then I started to lose interest towards the end. Slightly disappointed

I think more bands need to have a whimsical improv section in the middle of their albums

There's one good song and then a bunch of noise, but that one song is pretty good...

Originally gave this a 2, although I never ended up finishing it. Now that I've actually finished I can see I wasn't missing out on much

I'm a bit miffed Speaking in Tongues isn't on here (I don't think?), but this is still an incredible album, definitely worthy of a 5

This is another one of those albums that I originally gave a 4, but upon revisiting it I had to give it a 5. You can't make an album featuring the Mellotron, harpsichord and some delightful little organs and not expect me to love it.

Do I actually attempt to write a nice review for what's basically my favourite band of all time, or do I just give it a 5 and call it a day because I haven't got a clue about how to review music? I swear, they could've made a completely unlistenable mess of an album and I'd still slap a 5 on it just because it's Yes. I don't think I'm the best person for giving well-constructed feedback on this, it's just good. I will say though, there's absolutely no need to be using the nasty deluxe edition album cover, I'm tempted to knock a point off just for that 🤢

Karma Chameleon is firmly in my top 10 least favourite songs and giving it anything higher than a 1 wouldn't sit right with me.

Really fun album, I'm interested in hearing what else these guys have done

My mum said she bought this album when it came out so I had to give it a 5. Love you mum 😊 (It's an excellent album as well)

Why did it give me this so soon after Fragile? 😭 Another absolute classic from the lads. Yours Is No Disgrace and Starship Trooper easily make it a 5 and the other songs only add to the experience

I don't want to listen to grotty toilet music 😭 Never particularly liked Sympathy for the Devil, so this album had no chance

Never listened to a full Oasis album before (I'm more of a Blur girl (Blurl?)) but this was good, it's nice when the non-singles are good songs as well

Listened to probably the first 3 songs and then started skipping through them. It's quite impressive that, despite all the songs that hadn't been written yet in the 50s, these guys managed to make the same one 59 times.

*Person who's only ever listened to Yes* Apparently Jon Anderson was the godfather of the lead singer of this group, I'd like to know the story behind that. Doesn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things, it was kind of a fun album but I won't be revisiting it

Typical, you go weeks without getting a rap album and then it generates 3 in a row. Not complaining though, this was a good album

Dunno what to think about this. There's definitely some bangers on here, but I'm also sick of hearing them on the radio

Another album where I was expecting to love it, but it just turns out ok. Light My Fire was definitely a highlight though.

I only knew the big New Order hit before this, so this was a pleasant surprise

It really says something about an album when you can't tell which songs are the singles, and I don't mean that in a good way. Still though, it wasn't that bad and I enjoyed the guitar bits

My 4th rap album in the past week, and the 3rd one that's apparently the best rap album of all time. I get that it's good, but if you keep saying that every album's the best then it kinda loses its meaning.

I think the problem with these country albums (for me at least) is that they'd be much more bearable if the guys just stopped singing

I'm really trying with these 50s albums, and I understand that they might be groundbreaking and the first of their kind, but that doesn't mean they're enjoyable to listen to. I sat through all of it and didn't recognise a single song, so I don't really know what to say.

Preferred this to the other Curtis Mayfield album. It's still not something I can see myself revisiting though

Might be the funniest thing I've listened to so far. It's getting a 3 for that and because this is what I was expecting RATM to sound like. Those guys weren't nearly as pissed off as these jolly fellows.

Thought I recognised her voice, she made a song with Gorillaz on Humanz. The only problem was then I would've rather been listening to a Gorillaz album than this

First half was better than the second, found myself enjoying the instruments more than the singing

When you cover this many genres, there's bound to be something that I don't like which is why this isn't getting a 5. However, it's weird enough that I'd feel bad giving it anything lower than a 4. I've got high hopes for the next Zappa album I come across.

I was dreading another Nirvana album, but this was surprisingly tolerable. Didn't give me a headache either which is always nice

So I complain about it giving me a Nirvana album yesterday, and today it gives me bootleg Nirvana. Unlike Nirvana though, this actually had some songs I enjoyed.

Is Country the Britpop of America? Because I don't get the appeal of this at all

This was certainly something, even the instrumental couldn't save it. Really, it sounded like the guy didn't particularly want to sing on it either

I understand that this might be the absolute worst Bowie album to listen to as my first one. However, it's still an incredible album and I don't think I can give it any less than a 5. I might revisit once I generate a few more, but I imagine my rating will stay the same

Didn't like the slower songs as much, but still a good album

I know everyone seems to point it out, but aside from the song where they got a little freaky, this album was basically made for me.

I'm not super familiar with Canterbury scene stuff and this is definitely on the stranger end of the few albums I have listened to, but it's still kind of a vibe. I can appreciate what the guy's trying to do, but I think this is one of those albums where it's more about the experimentation rather than making something that's easily accessible

After listening to the first song I was adamant that this would be a 1, but it actually managed to turn itself around. Once you look past the singing there's some decent stuff on here.

Actually listened to this one a few months ago, which is rare for me. It seems these hip hop albums follow a pattern of sounding great, but a lot of the songs just sound too similar to each other and they're not something I'd come back to.

What the hell was this? It's great! It's weird enough while still being enjoyable to listen to, so in my eyes it's a perfect album.

I mean, this was, um... It was certainly, uh... Y'know... I don't think it was that bad? You listen to it for long enough and you kind of start to enjoy it

The first 50s album I've had that's somewhat tolerable, Big Iron is doing some heavy lifting though

I dunno, I've never really been a fan of Elton John and this album isn't doing much to help. I do like Rick Wakeman however, but you could barely hear him on the songs he was on. Maybe the next Elton John album will be better...

Although it might say my favourite genre is currently electronica, this was painfully repetitive to listen to. There were some good moments and the lyrics are still relevant today, but that doesn't mean much when you have to listen to what sounds like a dragged out 1 second loop over and over again.

A 2 hour album that isn't a slog to listen to? Splendid. I was going to take a break halfway through, but I found myself really enjoying it so I just carried on. Don't think there was a single bad song on here.

Sleater-Kinney sounds like one of those names people give their kids nowadays to feel 'unique'. I've probably bumped into a few at work... "Sleater-Kinney, get down from there!" "Don't touch that, Sleater-Kinney!" Anyway, didn't really like the music. I'm not sure if any American indie rock bands from the 90s have impressed me yet.

When I'm in a 'greatest hip hop album of all time' competition and my opponent is the 1001 album generator 😳😳😳 I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't understand why so many of these hip hop albums are regarded as the greatest of all time. Are hip hop fans just that easily impressed? Because I'm not

Did they add that applause at the start to make it sound more interesting than it actually was? Yeah, there's some big hits on here as well, but I don't really like those either.

Any other time I'd give an album like this that's got some slower songs on it 4 stars, just because they don't really interest me. There was something about this album though that I really enjoyed, I think the other songs easily make up for the ones I didn't like as much.

This is the band people always go on about? Am I missing something? Even if I give them the benefit of the doubt, I just don't think this was very interesting. It sounded like every other country rock album I've had so far.

I have to say, I was disappointed when I saw I had to listen to a Stones double album, but this wasn't that bad. It wasn't exactly great either, but I found myself enjoying more of it than the previous Rolling Stones albums. The saxophone was a nice addition as well.

Somewhere around halfway through the album I just forgot I had it on. Not particularly interesting, but not devastatingly bad either, just not interesting.

I can't stand this way of singing that just sounds like constant rambling, and every song managed to find another way to annoy me on top of that. Like the other album I got from Fiona Apple, it would be ok if it was more instrumental, but there's no way I can just ignore the vocals on this.

Would've been a 2 but Octopus's Garden saved it

To begin with, I love the instrumentation in this. This would've been a great instrumental album considering I loved the few instrumental tracks on it. However, John Pogue or whatever his name is decided he wanted to sing over this wonderful music, which really ruined my enjoyment of it. Struggled between giving it a 2 or a 3, but I might have to go with a 2 just because there's only 2 songs I actually enjoyed.
