good and weird

Incredible. This is why you play the game. Enjoyable from start to finish. So many good ideas.

Is it me, or does the little riff in Laura sound like something from Thomas the Tank Engine?! There's just something very modern-retro, funk and disco about this whole album that I love. Can't believe it wasn't already in my library!

So glad Jojo Siwa invented gay pop so I could listen to this

An album I had a CD copy of back in the day. It still sounds good and it's such fun music, they don't take themselves too seriously but it doesn't get seriously. A campy, disco/glam throwback that is unapologetically retro and all the better for it. Not a groundbreaking album but endlessly catchy and great

Brilliant. Wasn’t expecting much but was surprised at how diverse and enjoyable the album was

Classic album of queer bangers

This album is a lot of fun, and much more enjoyable than I expected. It deserves all the five stars that I am happy to award. I even enjoyed the cover of "Comfortably Numb" but was disappointed to discover that there are no tits on the radio.

Maybe it is a little too long with not the versatile of instruments and sounds for me. But it is one of the best glam rock/nu disco album for sure.

me pareció excelente

What a band. Probably agree with El G, it's not quite all bangers. But still, gonna give it a 5.

Pretty Gay innit?

I liked it!

When my dad found out that Scissor Sisters had done a cover of Comfortably Numb, he declared it the worst thing to happen to music. As a contrarian 14 year old, I obviously had to insist it was actually great and that he just didn’t get it. As a result I bought this album (one of the first I can remember buying with my own money) and realised that there was actually some truth in what I had claimed. This album is brilliant. Pulling influence from the dancier side of Elton John and David Bowie, along with the New York Electronica scene that was making a rise at the time. I’m gutted I never saw them whilst Ana Matronic was still in the band, but their Glastonbury set from this year shows there still got the juice.

Fucking loved everything about this. So so gay, so glam, so fun, so eclectic. I don’t know how to help the lost and confused and presumably straight people leaving 1s and 2s and honestly I feel a little sorry for them. This is an absolute unserious masterpiece.

Excellent

fantastic album

30/1089 - first album i’ve heard in full previously (and the version with the british release bonus tracks) Laura is SUCH a good song and is so impactful as an opener. take your mama flowing into comfortably numb was soo smooth the production and vocals on Mary are so dreamy at times, very nostalgic some outdated wording on tits on the radio but their hearts are in the right place and it’s groovy filthy/gorgeous is a CLASSIC, what a perfect song It Can’t Come Quickly Enough has a different vibe and intensity to it but i really enjoy that about it Return to Oz is an excellent closer to the standard album and Message from Ms. Matronic is such a fun way to segue into the bonus tracks, classic scissor sisters. Get It Get It is a great track and would’ve made a great addition to the standard album. 5 stars or 89/100

I'll admit that when I read it was a disco album inspired by LGBTQ life in New York, I was intrigued and most certainly curious about what it could be. Turns out that what it is is fantastic. With a good balance between disco influences and upbeat poppy tunes, it certainly has enough positivity to go around, and with songs that sound inspired by George Michael and Robbie Williams, it is more than catchy. Even comfortably numb, while not a great cover, is a decent song as well

One of the greatest albums of all time here lads. Absolute banger after banger. As at home in the club as it is in the car as it is in someone's kitchen at 3am. Swiss army knife of albums. Something for everyone. Cover of Comfortably Numb absolutely shits all over the Floyd original. Flithy/Gorgeous an absolute belter, Laura one of the best ever album openers. Unmatched fun.

Really well-made pop with a ton of variety. 4.5/5.0: Excellent

this is not what i expected at all. i remember my mom having an album by them, not sure if it was this one or not, and i hated it at the time. this was actually incredibly well done.

Scissor sisters Really Fun combo of disco and rocknroll. Interesting take on comfortably numb. Mary was a cool change of style. Lovers in the backseat was really cool. Really natural and Interesting diversity of styles without sounding like genre hopping for the sake of it. I like his voice too. Probably a 4 for me but 5 for this project.

A fantastic mix of about 18 different types of music. FAB

Brings back memories!

I. Love. Scissor Sisters. They're one of my favorite musical acts, easily top 5. This review will be biased, but I'm going to explain my rating and how important this band is to this day. This self-titled debut album is unabashedly queer. When Jake Shears whips out his falsetto, there is no mistaking his sexual identity. If you are still unsure, then the lyrics and tone will tell you. "Comfortably Numb" could not have been covered like this by straight people. A song about voyeurism? And a mama's boy taking his mom for a night out on the town? Scissor Sisters left no doubt. This self-titled album oozes sex, but Scissor Sisters manage to not be obscene, even with a song called "Tits On The Radio." Really, isn't that song more a commentary on sex workers and drag queens not being able to work? "Lovers In the Backseat" is a sensual number, and "Filthy/Gorgeous" is, well, an iconic banger and definitely about fetishes. But where else will you find a song dissecting the queer community's fetishes? One of my favorite aspects in music is when an artist covers a classic song and completely turns it on its head. Scissor Sisters re-wrote the blueprint of "Comfortably Numb." Who is Pink Floyd again? The lyrics are the same, but the tempo is different, Shears uses his dynamite falsetto, and somehow the song is even more trippy and psychedelic. I've never found another cover that makes it difficult to listen to the original song. Plenty of artists have mentioned drugs in their songs, probably more artists than those who haven't. Scissor Sisters did plenty of that on this album, but drugs are never the focal point of their songs. Drugs are mentioned in passing, or you get a psychedelic sense through the music. This allows their songs to be more down-to-earth. You don't even have to be part of the queer scene to enjoy the music, though it doesn't hurt. Also, only Scissor Sisters could rhyme their lyrics with "acid" and "flaccid." Your favorite could never. Since the genre of disco, there was no out-and-proud queer group like Scissor Sisters in their music and public personas. Even without that fact, I'd give this album a flaming 5 stars. But in 2025 I did travel to London and see them perform this whole album live. :)

2004 NY. Glam rock, electroclash, nu-disco. !!!!!

Joyous

OMG this is so much fun. Total glam-disco chaos in the best way. I was grinning the whole time.

Open the album on Spotify, and there's already a song in my liked songs (Take Your Mama). I look at my liked songs playlist, and I have 3 Scissor Sisters songs on it. I don't remember adding them, but I did recall Take Your Mama when I heard it. Loved the album, will listen again.

Really fun vibes

And just like that, I'm back in college. I love everything on this album

Love that one too!

Hell yes. This is an awesome and subversive album, reviving glam rock for a moment in the 00s. Loved it when it came out and still listen to it today. And the disco cover of Comfortably Numb? Chef’s kiss.

2004 vuosi ylistetty

I mean, this album just rips, this is known. (And yes, Ana, this is me giving my blessing to use the t-slur that once, but we're watching you)

This is one of those albums that, when it came out, I listened to SO MUCH - and haven't actually touched for years and years since... So thank you for making me put this on again, this is still brilliant. I'm not one for pop or disco usually, but Scissor Sisters bring the party atmosphere and it's hard not to be swept up in it all. I had also forgotten pretty much every song after Filthy/Gorgeous on here, and while they aren't the radio-friendly songs of the first half I think they're possibly better? Honestly a great listen through and through, and I don't think there's any weak tracks among them. Easy five stars!

lovely!!

Iconic, loved it

Several bangers mixed in with some Bee Gees vibing tunes. Overall it’s fantastic. Excellent production, the energy is outrageous.

I had never heard of this group before but found this album to be a pure delight, so much so that I had to listen to it again as I was swept up into the infectious grooves. Who would have thought of "Comfortably Numb" performed in the spirit of "Staying Alive". Awesome...

shameless 5, i freak with this

Pre-listening thoughts: YAYYYYYY YAYY I LOVE SCISSOR SISTERS THIS IS SO EXCITING!! Also can I just say this album cover is beautiful. Post/during listening thoughts: I’ve heard a few songs from this album before but never sat down to listen to the whole thing. This is so for me. As soon as music becomes pop or disco, the reviews hate it. And that’s when I know I’ll love it. The Comfortably Numb cover you just kind of have to treat as a totally different song and then you might be able to enjoy it. But everything else is wonderfully joyful and fun and makes you want to dance around your room even though getting out from under the covers is hard because it’s so cold. It’s sort of Elton John reminiscent but definitely more modernized. Love this so much!! 9.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: hmmm…! Fav tracks: this is a no skip album BUT my personal favs were Laura, Take Your Mama, Filthy/Gorgeous, Music is the Victim, and Return to Oz Least fav tracks: none

Клевый альбом, неожиданно очень понравился

This is one of my favourite albums of all time! What a fantastic exploration of gay life. From friendship to family and NYC nightlife, this band packs a variety of themes into excellent songs with hooks aplenty and enviable skill on every instrument. 10/10, absolutely deserves to be here. No wonder it was 2004’s best-selling album here.

Just another ex-1001 album!™ http://1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie.wikidot.com/album-artists-a-z-ex At the time of release, this album was on my regular rotation. It might not be perfect but I enjoyed it a lot, good catchy fun.

Great fun album

I bought this at the time, having heard Take Your Mama and Laura. The rest of the album is of equally high standard. There is one track that is very controversial though. Comfortably Numb, should they have been allowed to do that to a Pink Floyd classic? It still stirs up conflict within me, and I can't help but be glad that it does. And I know that I'm weird but my favourite track is the last one, there is just something about Return To Oz that I love. It's brilliant.yeah, I think I'll have to give it a maximum. 5

Very nice.

I really, really, REALLY enjoy this album. There are 1 or 2 songs I don't love or don't love parts of, but the rest of the album is an absolute BOP. I don't care if this sounds like some alt shit from the 80s. I LOVE alt shit from the 80s: 5/5.

If you want a zombie bunny Or a pussycat mummy A vampire froggy Or a skeletony doggy If you want to lease a weremouse Or a yeti for your fear house Do you crave a franken-sheep Or a creature from the deep Well, there's a place where you can go You know Where all the crawly creepies are so Oh yes, oh no Dr. Zitbag's Transylvania Pet Shop

Good vibes on here, surprised it came out in 2004 sounds more like 1994 to me.

Fuck yes. Loved this band since discovering them in 2007 through Doctor Who (yes Russell T. Davies knew what he was doing) and know every song backwards in forwards. Absolute bangers from an amazing band. I just wish they would reform (Jake Shears' solo album from 2023 definitely scratches the scissor sisters itch).

Amazing album. Return to Oz slaps

Hell yes

Disco is not dead. Ten out of ten.

This really resonates with my memories and is in fact better than my recollection at the time. Some stand out tracks and the whole vibe is a tight. well produced album.

I started out not liking this...the name Scissor Sisters really turns me off, especially considering this is a bunch of dudes and one woman. By the second track, I started coming around, and by "Comfortably Numb," I was convinced. This is a great album. The diversity of the songs, the genre blending, the funky beats...this was good.

Defined a sound and changed my life

Funky and weird and I wish there was more of it

I think I'm going to bump this up from 4 to a 5 because it just has that goofy little charm that I really like.

I wanna summarize how much I enjoyed this album just by talking the weird-ass cover of "Comfortably Numb". 'Cuz its ass is **very** weird. I mean, if you didn't tell me this was a Pink Floyd cover, just from the arrangement alone I wouldn't be able to tell. Some kinda electroclash glam rock thing? Very strange! And the vocals—they sound like SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER Bee Gees, right down to "AH-HA-HA"s. Why did they even cover this song at all? What the heck even is this? I don't know about anyone else, but to me, what this is is **great**. I know I've described a lot of albums I haven't heard before as "fun listens," but this is the most I've meant it yet. It's largely thanks to how glam-y it is. I've always had a thing for glam rock, and the way it's done here—**good shit**. Combine that with how queer it is, and I kinda feel a little dumb for not checking out any of their albums sooner. Like, I can blame my mom and sister annoying me with "Let's Have A Kiki" all I want; at the end of the day, this is incredibly up my alley. I'll even choose "I got distracted by other things" as the reason why side two didn't do as much for me as the first and why I won't dock it a star for that. I don't think there's any other Scissor Sisters albums on this list, and as I'm writing this I don't feel like checking. So thank goodness we at least got this album. I can't say how "worthy" it is to be here, but it's an absolute blast regardless. (And seriously, my mom and sister were **all the damn time** with "Let's Have A Kiki" back when GLEE covered it. In retrospect, it's the biggest foreshadowing I can remember for how much they'd end up getting into stuff like RUPAUL'S DRAGRACE. And, y'know, better that than wherever they would've ended up if they got more into the "Turkey Lurkey" half of GLEE's cover.)

That’s immediately a 5. It was just fun, you know? I’ve been waiting for something this goofy and bubbly and happy for a while. We keep getting moody stuff, or hard rock, or semi-pop with a bit of a noir feel (looking at you, Billy Joel). Even when we get stuff that is fun, it’s never this fun and loose and carefree, or at least it hasn’t been for a while. I’m sort of struggling to say exactly what I liked about the album, because I really did enjoy just about everything here. I think the instrumentation is fantastic, and deeply reminiscent of so many artists and genres that I already like, especially with how many songs feel ripped straight out of Elton John’s style. It Can’t Come Quickly Enough felt like it came straight out of a mid-90s George Michael cut, and the last track, Return to Oz, felt very Bowie inspired in its structure. I love paying homage to artists like this. Lyrically, I thought every song was great, and it always manages to take itself seriously enough when the time calls for it – there’s a deep dichotomy between the seriousness of “Mary” and the goofier take on coming out expressed on “Take Your Mama,” but they all fit together on this album as a great listening experience from start to finish without feeling weird or out of place. Vocals were great throughout as well. There’s really not a single complaint from me. Fabulous, fabulous album. Easy 5. I’m a moron for never having heard this before today.

OMG, I love this! I hear elements of Elton John in Take Your Mama and never expected to enjoy any version of Pink Floyd anything but Comfortably Numb absolutely slaps. Music is the Victim has a danceable, electronic beat but also real, live electric guitar! Scissor Sisters, welcome to my life.

Algjört bangerasafn, frábærlega grípandi og skemmtilegt og ein af bestu tónlistarminningum þrítugsaldursins. Svo finnst mér þessi útgáfa af Comfortably numb vera best.

5/5 - really enjoyed this

Started it, forgot how many bangers are on it

Five stars for the cover of "Comfortably Numb" alone, which is just a completely crazy mash-up of the original song, 70s funk, 80s electro, and 90s house. It really shouldn't work, but it's just so damn good. I think this album made me gay for a bit in 2004, as well; the soundtrack for my kiss-guys-on-molly phase. Which was a total blast, and this album being so unabashedly, joyfully out - and such a massive hit - felt like a defining moment.

The only band I've ever wanted to be in. They have better albums but I can't not give them 5 stars!

Filthy ✅ Gorgeous ✅

Fun, gay-ass music!

I don't think I've given Scissor Sisters the room it deserves in my musical life. If they get a second album in this list, then I look forward to loving 'Ta Dah' as well.

It's fast, it's fun, it's Dominion! Just kidding but this album was Fresh, funky and fun. Prior to listening to this album I knew of the Scissor Sisters but only through I Don't Feel Like Dancin'. This album almost felt like a modern disco album and you could hear the influence of the Bee Gees, Elton John, David Bowie and Pink Floyd. Every song was different and brought something new for the listener to enjoy. I will definitely be coming back to this album and plan to explore Scissor Sisters more going forward!

A total joyride, in the best way.

Campy, genuine mood-lifter. I loved nearly every track. Wavered between 4 and 5 stars but the sadder song "It Can't Come Quickly Enough" sent me into 5 stars.

great album, unexpected gem. I loved the reworking of Comfortably Numb. very much a disco sound, enjoyed it a lot.

When you grow up, living like a good boy ought to And your mama takes a shine to her best son Something different, all the girls, they seem to like you 'Cause you're handsome, like to talk, and a whole lot of fun But now your girl has gone a-missing and your house has got an empty bed The folks'll wonder 'bout the wedding, they won't listen to a word you said We're gonna take your mama out all night Yeah, we'll show her what it's all about We'll get her jacked up on some cheap champagne We'll let the good times all roll out And if the music ain't good, well, it's just too bad We're gonna sing along, no matter what Because the dancers don't mind at the New Orleans If you tip 'em and they make a cut Do it, take your mama out all night So, she'll have no doubt that we're doing all the best we can We're gonna do it, take your mama out all night You can stay up late, 'cause baby, you're a full-grown man I unironically love this album. 5/5

That bass was great and the vocals

🕺🏾🤸🏾‍♂️

So *this* is what indoctrinated me to glam

I was so happy to get this album I know and love today. It was the summer of '04, my last visit to France, and it was on the radio there constantly. I bought the CD there as I'd not yet heard them in the U.S. Gloriously disco-y fun, this takes you to a place where you dance in joy with your friends, leaving all the troubles of the world outside. It's joyful and fun and absolutely glamorous without ever being pretentious (I mean, your Continental's just been towed...)

I was at least a decade late to the Scissor Sisters party, but I have been a fan of this album for quite a while now. Love it!

How great to listen to an album that has me grinning and laughing on my walk to work! On paper, I was nervous about the cover of Comfortably Numb but holy cow did that work. Absolutely stellar!

I bought this album when it was released and it has been one of my favorites since. FABULOUS!

If you gene spliced 10cc into Ween and then ran it through a studio with Beck helming the production, this would be the result. Glorious, beautiful, funtastic. I started this project hoping I would be introduced to a gem that I had know nothing about, that I had somehow missed and I have been rewarded.

An unashamed disco banger

Fav songs: take your mama, mary, return to oz

Loved it

Lots of bangers, fun to dance or sing, would have liked to see this live!

Never heard this band or album. Pleasantly surprised.

Never heard this before and I thought it was nearly perfect - steeped in the Spirit of the luminaries of Glam but cutting its own path. Interesting lyrics and largely flawless delivery. A real gem.

How did I not experience them before?

Wow, what an interesting mix! Part Prince, part Beck, part Styx, part disco, part Pink Floyd (although the “Comfortably Numb” cover is a little out of place). Loved this one!

Impeccable pop filled with all the hits. I can't fault it.

being gay is a gift, and i want to dance!!

So rad. I remember my mind being blown by this one and buying the CD.

Unexpectedly loved it! Laura, back seat, final 2 tracks

This is probably blasphemy but I like Scissor Sisters' cover of Comfortably Numb so much better than Pink Floyd's original. I'd never heard any song on this album except that one, and until today though that it was an old 70s disco cover of the song. This album is amazing. Every song is totally completely different than the others in most every way. They seem to pick a genre, do a song, pick a new genre, do a new song, and repeat through the album making great song after great song. At least, for those songs I could find to listen to. Some of them eluded me, though most were on YouTube.

Got some great tunes on there, such a great album from my childhood

This was way too much fun to give it anything but a 5.

Boy oh boy oh boy do I love me some Jake Shears and Scissor Sisters. I always thought they should be bigger and more well known outside of the gay-club culture. There I was in spring of 2004 alone at home with my newborn. One particularly rough day I was literally on the couch feeding Adler nonstop. Exhausted, sore, and depressed I was so worried about this new chapter of life. I didn't feel alive; I felt like a machine. Despondently watching Ellen (pretty sure it was that) on daytime TV, the Scissor Sisters came on and sang "Take Your Momma." It was the postpartum antidote I needed. My baby and I started dancing that day and I felt like I could get through all the hard stuff and recover from birth. I immediately ordered the CD. Music is some powerfully healing stuff. I love that they took the slow Comfortably Numb and put it on the NY dance floor. Highpoint of our wedding was when Filthy/Gorgeous came on our playlist and the patio turned into a disco. This album is just the whole package...great cover, band is totally grooving, excellent vocals, and it's got a beat you can dance to.

Camp as Christmas, and a whole lot of fun. A couple of songs I thought I had forgotten, until I heard them again, and some all time classic power pop oddness. Another album where every track was on in the pubs and clubs of Glasgow, so it feels like an old friend. Whoever had the bright idea of a disco Pink Floyd cover needs their head checked, but it bloody works!

being objective I know part of the 5 stars is because this was the soundtrack to a really pivotal time in my life. But I still love every single song on this album. In my top 10 for sure.

Just perfect, fun and feelgood

It's a banger.

idk yet

I kept going back to it all day. Really enjoyed it and found it unique. No tits on the radio!

I'd totally forgotten how many hits the Scissor Sisters had, and they're all on this album.

Fantastic album! Enjoyed it in it's entirety.

Great album, have on vinyl. Take your momma out tonight

Great fun. Completely gay in the very best way.

Personal Enjoyability (out of 40): 34 Consistency of Quality (out of 25): 18 Keeps Interest (out of 25): 21 Album Flow (out of 10): 8 Overall 81/100 ★★★★★ Quick Review: My first 5 star review, and I cannot believe it's the Scissor Sisters but I'm fine with it. The singles are bangers, the album tracks are all solid songs that I found myself dancing along to. Just as I thought the album was petering out slightly, the final two tracks change the tone entirely. Overall a fantastic album!

Remember this album from growing up and really enjoyed it then. After relistening to the full album again I found it to be brilliant all over. Great fun album all round.

Very fun album! I enjoyed this a good bit. I think the group showed a clear competency for pop hooks and how to arrange catchy rock-leaning music. The “Comfortably Numb” cover was hilarious though. Sounded a bit like jamiroquai meets Jimmy Fallon doing an impression of the BeeGees, all over a surprisingly forward-thinking instrumental. “Mary” had a great chorus and a sublime key section, especially towards the end of the song. Great choice to sprinkle some different sonic textures with those keys. “It Can’t Come Quickly Enough” had some sweet downtempo electronic production swooping in to add even more variety and keep me engaged. Not once did I feel like I wanted to just get this album over with already. Is it a 3/5? A 4/5? Hard to tell.

meaningful glam pop bangers everywhere on this album. Heavy disco and Elton John influences. Important to know the backstory of the band

Simply -fabulous-. A great, joyous album that's made my day just a tad brighter.

If you can enjoy the falsetto voices this one is quite good. Funky basslines combine with disco vibes but it isn't pure camp either. A bit of a punk vibe to it in its attitude. Don't trip over the pink floyd cover, let the album speak for itself.

Wow... I had never heard of this before today and was pretty skeptical based on the description. Turns out a lot of this really rocks! Love the late '70s disco throwback vibes. Lots of funk going on. It's not all great, but most importantly it's fun, which is pretty refreshing. Will be listening to this again.

Ah this is so fun. You forget how many great songs this lot have. Very nostalgic for any UK 00s kid.

1001 albums generator wasn't about to let pride month end without giving me another gay classic. At it's best this album is an extremely flamboyant and glorious piece of glam pop, but it is a little inconsistent. Still though, am glad to have heard it.

Surprenamment fun

So much fun

Gran debut. Hasta mañana, gente

A band I've never heard of. Kinda sounded like a more soulful Maroon 5 with a bit of a disco twist. I was surprised to see this was released in 2004, it was a bit of a throwback sound, but I enjoyed it! Some catchy tunes, some nice ballads, and an infectious energy. Some of the lyrics were pretty funny too; One song was bragging about how they were going to take your mom out for a night on the town, and another complaining about not being able to see "tits on the radio." A fun dance rock album, a solid 4/5.

Britain can feel pretty depressing at the moment, but the fact that we collectively made this album a huge hit is a reminder that we don't always hate fun.

This is a fun album

Great throwback with some bangers

It's just very much its own high-quality weird moment in time and there isn't much like it. It's very good at what it does and it's damned catchy.

Much fun (the unusual version of COmfortably NUmb)

Generelt godt nivå

This album is actually a lot of fun and I enjoyed it. Many people remark on the Numb remake and honestly, I think it's great--maybe better than the original.

La verdad gran disco. No es mi estilo pero me gusto todo lo que escuche. Creo que es un 3.5 pero les doy el 4

great find, haven't heard of them before. Favorite track: flithy/gorgeous other picks: comfortably numb, take your mama

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Single glorious uninterrupted session Wow - this was 2004. Reminds me of youth and party tunes. Have never listened to the full album - it was so fun. Highlights are Laura and Tits on the Radio. Fabulous.

I'm so glad I discovered this band. Papi and fun. I really like the song take your Mom. I will continue to listen to them.

Really good. Almost 5

Went on a complete roller coaster with this because I assumed the name meant they were gay women, but I guess they're gay men instead. Then there was a disco cover of Comfortably Numb. Thoroughly interesting, lots of different styles and eras that they were playing with. I enjoyed it a lot.

Favorite Track: Mary Least Favorite Track: Comfortably Numb

I was excited to have my first five star album that was new to me. The first two songs had me. But it fell off for me after that. Still overall great!

Edgy, engaging, queer art pop? I am all in on this glam gay shit. Definite Elton John vibes in there too. Just fabulous. A high 4 on first listen that could become a 5

3.5 enjoyed

An interesting blend between Portugal the Man and John Grant all with a poppy punch. Honestly had a good time listening to this album and they donated great job of keeping each song fresh. I didn't know we had a hit on this album too but overall nothing got bogged down in the process

What sets the debut Scissor Sisters album apart is how openly, proudly queer it is. From their suggestive name, to their provocative lyrics, to their hit singles, like "Take Your Mama." Their music exists in this delicate space between "fun" and "irritating," but overall, I find this album a worthwhile and enjoyable listen. Something different than a lot of this list, and an important representation of a community and culture.

Some of the songs remind of the disco hits of the 1970's.

Heavy-hitting pop songs, good instrumentals. A pleasant listen. I didn't know I liked Scissor Sisters, but now I do. A solid four, because fives are reserved four albums that give me goosebumps or get me completely hooked.

I‘d vaguely heard of this band before the album came up on here. The first thing i noticed is how different each track sounds, which I rlly appreciate. A lot of enjoyable ones i gotta say. One thing i don’t understand is why name urselves Scissor sisters when yall are 3 dudes and one woman. Low 4

Hard to describe … modern day Elton John? I dunno. But it’s a fun listen

music for fun times. we are all gay.

This was a surprising listen to. I could hear the influences of psychedelic punk rock and that laid back sound from the 70s. This was an enjoyable sound experience.

sue me but i like the pink floyd cover. IT‘S FUN OK??? DO NONE OF YOU KNOW HOW TO HAVE FUN ANYMORE??? So sue me but i’ll be listening to the dance version of comfortably numb

Underrated and ahead of its time!

I actually enjoyed it a lot. Most of the songs were good.

For a band called Scissor Sisters I expected more lesbians? Stolen valor????? Anyway I am told the men in this group are gay so I guess that's better than them being straight. I actually really liked this up to the point they used that slur that gay men LOVE to use, you know, the one that starts with a "T" (note: I am gay, you can't be mad) that they *really* shouldn't be using. Left a sour taste in my mouth and took what probably would be a 5/5 for me down to a 4/5. 4/5

Great album, but I had to dock them a star for their Pink Floyd cover.

ganz ok, germ gehört

uuuh sie hani vage in erinnerig vorallem glaub ein grosse hit? uuh de erst song tönt recht geil er singt jo huere weird haha. sehr 2000er beat. take your mama isch sehr en 2000er rock n roll song aber sis falsetto isch huuuuere cool. ok noICE haha d comfortably numb version isch huere cool aber d lyrics sind scho für es langsamers tempo gschriebe. aber d gitarre und d synths sind huuere cool. und d haa haa haa-s sind meeega beegees. mary hani en viel bessere song gfunde als s comfortably numb cover haha. super cooli keys. shit ich finds richtig geil. mengmol mega retro aber immer huere punchy. sehr usgwählti sounds irgendwie. better luck isch chli afoch en happy popsong aber sehr groovy und super cooli chords.

Love this album. A funky little slice of alt rock meets the nightclub in the early 2000s.

yep, played this a lot back in the day

Shocked that this album is on this list.

#102/1001 🇺🇸✂️🏳️‍🌈 This record is brilliant fun. We had it on rotation when it came out but haven't listened to it in years. Just a riot of electro, disco and damned good pop music. The cover of Comfortably Numb serves well to upset and outrage the purist rock fans. I love both versions. Best tracks: Filthy Gorgeous, Comfortably Numb, Laura.

I enjoyed this, maybe it was the right music for a sunny day. Particularly liked the gayest cover of comfortably numb I've ever heard.

Scissor Sisters are like Electric Light Orchestra: real sweet and sugary with tremendous melodies. This album starts hot and was solid listening the whole way through. Top tracks: "Take Your Mama," "Laura," "Comfortably Numb"

--Laura...funky fresh opening track. sweet guitar. we got saxophone! --Take Your Mama...an absolute banger --Comfortably Numb...fun cover --Mary...lush ballad --Lovers in the Backseat...solid bass groove --Tits on the Radio...speaking of solid bass grooves. can't see tits on the radio? not with that attitude --Filthy/Gorgeous...I'm starting to think this LP might be a little gay. fun dance rocker --Music Is the Victim...I want to be a victim, too! great bop --Better Luck Next Time...this band is full of surprises. they can seamlessly switch between funk, club/disco, rock. often all within the same track --It Can't Come Quickly Enough...pleasant but generic ballad. first time I've been bored --Return to Oz...a little disappointed that they decided to slow things down so much for the final two tracks, but this one is more interesting than "It Can't...". David Gilmour-style guitar solo at the end is great

Sounded like a funk band from the 70s forgot to set the alarm, but it sounds so good. I was surprised by how different every track was.

I won the Scissor Sisters award at CSUN for having the best essay title, “Reckon Balls,” & never bothered to actually listen to Scissor Sisters! Real good!

4.2 That was fantastic. The only track I really knew fully beforehand was Laura, although a couple others were familiar. Still, even a random cover of Comfortably Numb (that I'm unsure was worth it) can't spoil the fact that this is a very catchy little album, with many throwbacks to the best of 80s synth-pop. I remember this coming out in 2004 and instantly dismissing it despite by then-girlfriends attempts to put it on rotation. Turns out I was very much in the wrong. Very very good album.

Wow this was a pleasant surprise! Great energy on this album, I enjoyed it a lot. 7/10 Quite Likeable

I was all set to hate on this - I've got serious rock 'n' roll credentials to manitain. But the truth is I had a good fun time reliving this. The singles remind youi a foam party in the old club in town, while the rest doesn't fall into the 'filler' category, every song here knows the brief and happily fulfills it.

Whatever this is, I like it. I was not expecting to enjoy an album that topped (tee hee) the UK charts in the early 00s, given that I've hated the Britpop/post-Britpop that this list has handed to me so far (drab, formulaic, clichéd, why?). This has been a pleasant surprise. Wasn't really ready for a disco cover of Comfortably Numb. I don't love it. I don't hate it either. As a disco song, it's fun. As a Floyd cover, it's not great. It misses the point and narrative of the song in favor of pizazz. But it *does* have pizazz. In spades. Vocals are neat; Brothers Gibb one second, Elton John the next. Instrumentals are fun, energetic, some nice bass work in there. It's a bit cheeky, a bit irreverent, occasionally tender. Thumbs up. Not perfect, but pretty darn good.

7/10 It's a lot fun, but REEKS of Radio 2 - probably one of the defining artists of that whole kitchen disco, middle aged parents, Jo Whitley, sanitised festival vibe. Not a bad thing, and this was huge at the time. However, Elton John it is not.

Not completely my vibe but clearly a banging debut

I was a little shocked that I liked this. Just based on the name I wanted to have it but I was into it.

Disco revival , some Bee Gees Some Elton John some Chic interesting though

I now have listened to the album. This is an album I can easily add to my heavy rotation list. Danceable beat on most songs. “Music Is the Victim” is my favorite. “Comfortably Numb” set to a dance beat was an odd choice, but not bad.

↑: Laura, Take Your Mama, Mary, It Can't Come Quickly Enough, Return To Oz, The Skins ↓: Tits On The Radio, Filthy / Gorgeous

I can remember getting the CD of this album for my wife, and thinking at the time I would not enjoy it. I was wrong, it was played in the car what felt like non-stop for months. The kids all loved it too. It was something we could all listen to. I'll be honest, the opening four tracks (even allowing that one is a cover, and a very good one at that) are as good as anything you'll hear. Instant classics, you can listen to it repeatedly. There is a slight drop after that, but still 2 or 3 really good tracks interspersed in the remaining tracks. It's somewhere between 4 and 5 stars, I've rounded down and I feel guilty already,

A pretty fun album

that was fun! knew nothing about them and had a great time.

ok i know i just spent my previous review shitting all over glam rock, but in my defense it was yet another bland, uninspiring, and vapid 70s album that didn't need to be here. this though... this is something else. it's not the greatest album ever or anything, and definitely has some dud tracks, but this is what glam rock should be. snazzy, sleek, wild, unique, and above all, FUN. i only knew take your mama and the comfortably numb cover going into this, and those are definitely the top-tier gold standouts, but the rest of the album ranges from iron to silver. no slag here... well, except for maybe the "song" a message from ms. matronic. either way, worth a listen, and glad to see it on here. favorites: take your mama, comfortably numb, tits on the radio, it can't come quickly enough, return to oz

more my vibr

This was fun vibes

Properly fun at most times, but when they slow it down - like with Return To Oz - they are just as good, if not, better. Filthy/Gorgeous, Take Your Mama, and Mary are my favourites. But there are some ones that fall flat, and that Comfortably Numb was atrocious - you've gotta respect them for trying to be fair. Overall I enjoyed this quite a bit

Retro 70s sound in 2004? Good by me.

Greta pop album

Enpä osannut yhtään odottaa Comfortably Numb coveria ja se ei siltikään kuullostanut yhtään miltä odotin. Filthy / Gorgeous jostain TOSI tuttu kaukaa menneisyydestä. Oisko musiikkivideo tullut joltain Voicelta aikoinaan. Tällä bändillä on muitakin throwback hittejä. Vekkulia musaa kummiskin, muttei mitään pelleilyä kummiskaan. Glam rock sanoo wikipedia mutta joku elektropop olis omasta mielestä sopiva. Viihdyttävää kamaa kummiskin, vähän meemeilyä vielä loppuun. Parhaat: Filthy/Gorgeous, Return To Oz, Laura

4.5 stars No skips on this blissful poppy ode to 70s. I don’t think it would hold up but I was grooving to it. I got into this album during the summer I got my first job. Many memories driving to work blasting this album while driving to work as a care free teen. Maybe that colors my memories. Maybe it’s still a great listen. Both can be true.

Such a fun, uplifting album, and Jake Shears is a fabulous performer. A bit disco, a bit Elton, a bit cabaret, even a bit Beatles now and again. And very glamorous. Well-crafted songs with instant hooks. (Personal ramble. 2004 was a great year for us as a family listening to music in the car - all the "K" albums - Kings of Leon, Kasabian, Killers, Keane and Kaiser Chiefs were on heavy rotation, along with Franz Ferdinand and Green Day; it felt like lots of good stuff was happening. Formative musical years for my lovely boys. I bought this too, but it never quite made it out of the kitchen (my preferred listening spot) into the car - which isn't to say we didn't do some family dancing to it at mealtimes. Lovely times.)

I thought this was fun. The Comfortably Numb cover was a surprising one, and I honestly dug it. While it’s not a vibe I’m personally going to throw on a lot, it’s well crafted and lots of fun.

Hyper intéressant comme mélange de styles

Extremely fun. Cool blend of stuff going on in the era. Great bass lines.

This scratched a pop itch for me. I'm not exactly sure what it was that I liked about it but I did like it. I didn't love the vocals but everything else really clicked for me for this genre.

Some really interesting tunes on here that had good production and catchy melodies.

Damn, this was fun. Then and now.

Very interesting and unique!

Raucous, campy and great. 70s Elton John, and unabashed disco on a sweat-drenched disc. Comfortably Numb was a flop, other than that, tons of fun!

This album is absolutely amazing, took me by surprise a little. Just makes you want to dance. This is very close to five stars for me!

This was pretty good

Fine glamrock album with lots of little gems, musically and lyrically.

Spooky and lovely

This album really feels like the early 2000s, Opens with "laura" which is fantastic and instantly memorable. Followed by "take your mama" which i also love. and "mary" which just like the other song named after a woman on the album is both fantastic (maybe more so) and memorable (even more so). Then everything slides for a while sort of forgettable although Theres also a duran duran sounding track thrown into the mix till we get "return to oz" which sounds like a hunky dory era david bowie, and snaps you straight out of the monotony. Overall its highs are so high, its easy to forgive the middling peak.

Enchanting

Bangin album Fave tracks: Take Your Mama, Filthy/Gorgeous

Wow, I really liked this! Great upbeat danceable music that feels like a party.

This like if Prince and Elton John got together to try to make an early 2000s indie rock album. Scissor Sisters were celebrated for depicting the LGBTQ+ scene in New York City and they definitely made a fun album out of it.

Fun, funky disco pop vibes. I had only known 'Take Your Mama' before listening to the full album and there are a bunch of bangers on here!

i had relatively low expectations before listening to this album but WOW, was i wrong! i genuinely loved it and will be definitely revisiting these tracks! i cannot even bring myself to picking one favorite song as almost every single one was remarkable in a way (except from one which i will come back to in a minute...). the production of the tracks was very intriguing, the vibe which i could correspond to how a night out feels when you're young and carefree was sooo nicely executed. the lyrics were fun most of the time but also clever, i really enjoyed the themes of "return to oz". also, "a message from ms. matronic" was a very creative way of welcoming the listeners to the bonus tracks. however, i absolutely despised their rendition of "comfortably numb" - one of my favorite songs of all time. to me, i cannot bring myself to describe it in words other than "butchered". i get that it was supposed to be different from the original but at times it felt like listening to bee gees's version of this songs especially when they went "I-I have become comfortably numb", like wdym??!! anyway, this made me strenghten my decision on the final rating, which is a 4 because despite minor mistakes (or major you could say) it was a highly enjoyable record with immensive vibes

It feels like a bunch of SF Bay queens morning the hayday of Castro Street but refusing to stop the party

Review - way better than I expected. The singles are generally great, and the entire first half is really good. A cover of Comfortably Numb? Incredible A bit of a drop in quality towards the end of the album but still a very good listen. Rating - 7.5/10 Need to listen? YES

I’ve never heard of this band. They are quite good.

I enjoy this band.

A couple of great songs and very fun and different in general. Comfortably numb and tits on the radio are especially great. Some songs are a bit too much for me.

it disappoints me that the scissor sisters aren't sisters. or lesbians

Fun. Still pretty good. This aged better than I thought it would.

I went oh yeah, Scissor Sisters! This was a fun throwback and I hadn’t heard that delightful Floyd cover.

I liked it a lot.

I was surprised to discover how fun this album was. Seems someone in the band is very influenced by Elton John and it works pretty much perfectly with their sound. Extra points for dismantling the Pink Floyd sacred cow.

THERE AIN'T NO TITS ON THE RADIO 🗣

Liked it more than I expected to. Surprisingly cohesive for how eclectic it is.

Fun album. Have you ever wondered what if Comfortably Numb sounded like the Bee Gees wrote it? It's here. Very upbeat. Love the closing.

Gosh, what a debut album. There are sprinklings in there of things I love about some of their later work, but it also stands on its own.

I had heard of this band before, but didn't realize this was their music or they were from post 2000. I think I may have been conflating them with Twisted Sister? Who knows? Anyways...fun album, would listen again.

REALLY good. I can see the influences this draws from and would have had on the NY music scene.

Had this disc back in the day. It holds up pretty well! There's a lot of fun tracks on this one and it's kinda too bad they didn't enjoy more enduring success.

Tracks I've heard before: Filthy / Gorgeous Top 3: Laura Tits On The Radio Return To Oz Bottom 3: Comfortably Numb Better Luck It Can't Come Quickly Enough

This is what 2004 sounds like. Great album, very enjoyable through. Fave: Take your momma, lovers in the backseat

Jojo siwa who? THIS is gay pop!!

A soft 4 to be sure, but I was vibing enough with this one I think it deserves the round up.

Best Track - "Take Your Mama"

Heb de Scissor Sister altijd leuk gevonden, maar heb nooit de tijd genomen om er meer muziek van te luisteren. Vond het erg leuk. Lekker gay. 1 liedje kende ik al

Beste Lieder: Mary, Tits on the radio

Люблю цей альбом, Laura - саундтрек моїх старших класів у школі.

Queer discos are fun.

Each song had a pretty solid idea that was executed well. had a good time listening

Ovo mi je sad bolje nego kad je izašlo

На этом альбоме столько хитов, что просто пиздец. Ребят, 4 из 5, но только потому что я шугейз-девочка

This album was s pretty great time. Dropped off towards the end, but mostly solid.

Album Rate: 7,7/10 Laura: 8 Take Your Mama: 9 Comfortably Numb: 9 Mary: 7,5 Lovers In The Backseat: 7 Tits On The Radio: 7 Filthy/Gorgeous: 8 Music Is The Victim: 7 Better Luck: 7 It Can’t Come Quickly Enough: 7 Return To Oz: 8 A Message From Ms. Matronic: Interlude The Skins: 7,5 Get It Get It: 8,5 Instrumentais bastante bons, especialmente nas três primeiras músicas.

You can’t see tits on the radio. Jag visste redan det men behövde tydligen höra det i låtform Stark 4!

Banger after banger! What a fun album

Oh, to be half my current age and awkwardly failing to flirt with girls again.

loved it

I'd forgotten how fun this album was. There's a bit too much filler for it to be a five star, but I had a gay old time.

I like this album. I knew 3 of the tracks: Laura, Take Your Mama, Better Luck. Take Your Mama is the most played track, but I like the other two better. I also like Return to Oz. Some tracks remind me of David Bowie (e.g. Lovers in the Backseat). Some remind me of Prince or Beck, with the falsetto singing style. Some have a definite disco feel. Interesting that they were much more successful overseas than in the US.

I enjoyed this, I’d never listened to the album it has some great singles on it

This was a lot of fun. Elton John with David Bowie, and George Michael, plus some fun dance hall moves of their own.

I’m glad I’ve finally given this a proper listen. I dismissed it at the time because of the awful Pink Floyd cover but the rest of the album is actually excellent. Return to Oz sounds more Floyd than the Floyd cover.

4 - Really like it. Great vocals. Disco vibe. Interesting cover of Comfortably Numb.

Alright

Absolutely fantastic album, I remember when this came out as I was just starting to get into music, and this just massively cut through all the heavy nu metal, pop punk sounds going on. It’s really hard not to have a big smile while listening to these tracks. It's very Bowie esque with all its glamour, flamboyance and campness. The version of Comfortably Numb is amazing, and prefer it to the original, but that’s mostly because I don't like Pink Floyd.

sounded so much like of montreal at certain points that it could have brought a happy tear to my eye

Wasn't gay enough tbh. Picked up a lot by the second half - the first half was a bit of a slog. Tits on the Radio is great

Scissor Sisters apparently came to make me dance. I couldn’t help but move and groove from the first beat drop of this album. It’s fun, funky, and sounds like the lovechild of the Bee Gees and Prince. The album had me traversing a lush melodic landscape dotted with peculiar, tongue-in-cheek lyrics. I really enjoyed Jake Shears vocals. His vocal tone is reminiscent of some of my favorite 80s new wave singers. I’m struggling with rating this one because I truly loved it; there wasn’t a moment I disliked. My only issue is the closing track is quite incongruent with the rest of the album in its somber nature, but it’s still a good song. I’m likely closer to a 4.5 rating, but will downgrade for the official generator score.

Fun album of catchy music that makes you want to dance! It has standout hits like 'Laura', 'Filthy/Gorgeous', 'Take Your Mama' and 'Mary' but also one of the maddest covers of all-time in the form of 'Comfortably Numb' which I give them credit for even attempting a pop-disco version. Love the bass in 'Tits on the Radio' which is a cool song and underappreciated songs like 'It Can't Come Quickly Enough'. Overall the album is just a lot of fun. Top Tracks = Laura, Mary, It Can't Come Quickly Enough & Filthy/Gorgeous

Whoa, kinda loved this. And that cover?? Would’ve taken me a while to figure out what was going on without the title giving it away. Props.

Fun time, take your mamma out is a good song. I stayed for the bonus tracks which indicates to me that it was a good time listening

Aside from the butchering of Comfortably Numb this is pretty good. 4 stars or B.

So much fun. Sometimes I want my sad bastard music and sometimes I want this. It’s a ray of sunshine.

Good fun. I wrongly judged them back in the 00s. Thought they were shallow and bubblegummy. Maybe I was a homophobe. We all deserve a second chance. This is a good album with good songs.

This is good. I don’t think I’d find myself seeking these guys out when I want to listen to something. I can’t quite put my finger on the issue. Musically sound, catchy, possibly forced high pitch vocals. I don’t know. The formula is there. I will say, “Comfortably Numb” is totally raped with their version. Ouch and yikes and the same time. Pass on that. Other than that, you should find yourself being somewhat productive with this as your soundtrack. Choice cut: Tits on the Radio

в группе с названием ножничные сестры нет никаких ножниц и сестер, одни мужики

Catchy indie pop rock with a nice sense of humor. A couple places where they kind of copied off better artists but also some original bangers

First couple of songs elevated this

Never heard of this band. But I actually liked it. The disco meets rock sound is unique and I thought it was cool.

Definitely listenable. Wouldn't say they have a unique sound. Sounds like they're trying hard to write hits.

Never heard this band before. A lot of fun at the beginning but dragged at the end. Very light 4.

Fun poppy, dancey songs. The first time I heard Take Your Mama, I could have sworn it was Elton John. I think a lot of the album has that same similarity. I also thought the cover of Comfortably Numb was weird but interesting. Overall, I liked it.

Fun! Retro yet modern!

impressionante o quanto eu gostei desse. as vezes tudo que você precisa no dia é um álbum dançante cheio de serotonina com letras bobas E TÁ TUDO BEM!!! a vida também é sobre se divertir!!

# Album Name: Scissor Sisters # Artist: Scissor Sisters # Rating: 4/5 # Comments: This feels aged but did take me back to a certain time. Its has 3-4 strong singles. Overall the album dragged a bit and had plenty of filler. Pink floyd cover was a terrible idea. Low 4. Just. # Top Tunes: Laura / Takr your mama / Mary / Filthy # Would I listen to it again? No

A time was had. I really enjoyed it.

Favorite Track: Take Your Mama

This band is incredible. 4 stars only because some of this too-long record could have been left on the cutting room floor without any negative consequences.

Some absolute 2000s banngers on here. It would be 5 stars if they stopped after track 7.

I was expecting tawdry work from an assembly of rapscallions. I was shocked with how much I fancied this. While there is copious amounts of tomfoolery, this is quite a celebration of glam rock fun

Sneaking suspicion they’re not really sisters. Beyond that I thought it was really good especially vocally

Funky beat fusion of electro dance and guitar. Sexy nu disco? They sort of remind me of a fusion between Prince, The Bee Gees, and Elton John. The disco version of Comfortably Numb was creative but I didn't especially like it. I thought other songs were better. Taking my Mama out is kind of ridiculous. You mean my mom? wtf. The album doesn't get good for me until the 5th song, Lovers in the Backseat. Filthy/Gorgeous is pretty good. I'd check out more albums by this band.

This was pretty great. I like how indulgent it feels, and it's a nice blend of fun dance/party songs and introspective ballady type tracks. I'd like to spend more time with this one.

This has to be one of the most recognizable albums of a generation.

I enjoyed listening to this album. It is playful, creative, provocative, easy listening and contains a good mix of disco sounds with different genres.

4/5 fun pop

Every song has a decent hook Overall sound is very dancy and seedy Good use of synths and recorded instruments Varied instrumentation and vocals quality of the songs tails off to the end but it has a strong start

Great record.

How did I not know about this? I don’t have any recollection of this album or band, other than maybe hearing the name. So good, super hooky, just classic pop music done right. This is the kind of album that I love getting as a part of this project - something that I just missed when it came out.

Nothing but bangers

It's like if the Bee Gees took estrogen

Really enjoyed the album, pop music at its finest

Really loved some tracks, really hated others. So IDK
