Public Enemy
5/5
Definitely has a dated sound, but this was very interesting to hear. I could here a lot of samples that popped up in other hip-hop songs that came out after, so that was very interesting to hear. Great energy and strong messages throughout.

Guns N' Roses
4/5
Surprised by Axl’s vocal range. Not my favourite - may have to listen again sometime to enjoy it more.
Van Halen
4/5
Lean more towards a 4.5, but since that isn’t possible, 4 it is.
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
I would definitely like his music more if his voice was different. He definitely has an overall Americana feel to his music’s instrumentals.
Bob Dylan
4/5
Definitely sounds dated. Not sure how I feel about the harmonica as an instrument. He has an interesting voice… better than Bruce Springsteen’s.
Bob Dylan
5/5
A way better listen than yesterday’s BD album. The harmonica and his voice fit really well with the rest of the instrumentation. Liked the blues sounds that popped up throughout.
Sly & The Family Stone
4/5
Overall nice project - enjoyed the funky sounds that popped up throughout!
Willie Nelson
4/5
Overall great, straightforward, and solid listen.
Elvis Presley
4/5
His voice was really interesting throughout - at times entertaining, at other times a little too much (accent wise), but very much like an instrument that added texture. Nice listen.
Bauhaus
3/5
Tough listen personally - a lot of moments where I hear interesting sounds (that probably influenced bands in the 90s and 00s), but a lot where I just hear “noise”.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Some great guitar and rhythms. Had me bopping my head a lot throughout the listen.
Kraftwerk
3/5
I could see this influencing daft punk. A 20 minute song was a little too much though.
Nanci Griffith
3/5
Meh. Nice voice and instrumentals, but this is really not my thing.
Nirvana
4/5
Solid. Only issues I had were some of the random screaming and noise like guitar feedback that popped up from time to time.
Fela Kuti
4/5
Different, but nice.
Eagles
3/5
Straightforward, easy listen. Something I’d see played while road tripping.
Ali Farka Touré
3/5
Nothing crazy to me. Hearing a western-African fusion was a little interesting.
The Specials
3/5
I recognize this having some solid sounds and likely being influential for when it was released, but I was not in the mood to hear this today.
David Holmes
3/5
I feel like it was trying to come off as being deeper than it actually was. Maybe I was missing something.
Frank Sinatra
3/5
Amazing voice. Easy listening, like something you'd hear in a cafe. Not my thing, however. A lot of it all blended in together, with nothing really standing out.
Drive-By Truckers
4/5
I don't think I would go out of my way to listen to this, but if it was on, I wouldn't change it. It felt like a live-jam session.
Kanye West
5/5
Relistened to this. Still holds up like it did when it was released.
3/5
The second half of the album was soooooo much better than the first half. Still not particular towards his voice, especially during the first half... the second half's instrumentals complimented his voice more though. Would have rated this higher if it was just the second half.
Ian Dury
2/5
It irked me how he'd have great instrumentals going and then would do something to make it weird. Unfortunately his accent was too much for me as well. Overall just too whimsical for me to enjoy.
Ramones
5/5
Short, but it felt very dense with the amount of songs that were present. There was a point where things did sound a little repetitive in the last third, but overall this was great.
Jimmy Smith
3/5
Overall just a pleasant listen.
Pink Floyd
5/5
Amazing. I'm happy this was suggested - I haven't listened to it since the first time I heard it five years ago. I'm happy this album made its way back to me.
Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
5/5
Fantastic recommendation. I was wondering when Spanish albums would pop up.
Tortoise
3/5
There were moments throughout that perked my ears - a lot of the rest was solid background music. Why do you need a song that long to start off the album?
Alice In Chains
4/5
Solid. Made me think of Nirvana, but just a step below.
Orange Juice
3/5
Based on the first song I had expectations that ultimately weren’t met. I thought the album would be something it wasn’t. Cool sounds throughout, though.
Norah Jones
3/5
Epitome of cafe music to me. Definitely felt very early to mid 2000s. It's has pleasant songs, but this album/style isn't my thing.
The Chemical Brothers
3/5
Transported me to the 90's. I felt like I was watching The Matrix while I was listening to it. I felt like it dragged, though.
OutKast
4/5
I now understand why this isn’t seen as a “true” OutKast albums and instead two solo albums. Interesting sounds on both, but the magic of the group wasn’t there like on other projects.
Lauryn Hill
5/5
A classic.
The Pharcyde
4/5
Nice rhymes and old school beats.
Coldplay
4/5
Solid. Nice to have in the background.
The Cars
5/5
Really great! So many interesting sounds throughout.
Klaxons
3/5
Not for me. The voice reminded me of Owl City. Like nails on a chalkboard.
The Thrills
3/5
Was not my thing. The singer’s voice reminded me of the voice of the singer in Owl City - like nails to a chalkboard.
Metallica
4/5
Solid album with a lot of great energy throughout.
Common
4/5
Great production!
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
Sounds like some guys from the UK heard the song at the end of the Breakfast Club and decided to make a whole album around it. Very meh sounding to me.
Kendrick Lamar
5/5
A personal favourite.
Turbonegro
3/5
It was nice, but it felt like it dragged after a while.
The Beach Boys
4/5
Hearing this makes me think of a simpler time.
Madonna
3/5
Really wish half stars existed instead of full stars. Would be higher, but I'm not going to round up.
Cat Stevens
4/5
He had a different, yet pleasant voice. Overall this album was pretty relaxing to listen to.
Hookworms
5/5
I really liked this!
Skepta
4/5
This was good - would have been better without the skits.
A Tribe Called Quest
5/5
Dated sounds, but love instrumentals and rhymes.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Great energy like the other album I heard from them.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
There are a lot of times throughout I don't like his voice and other times it is okay. The title track is the worst offender. Nice songs throughout, but I personally can't get over his voice.
Tom Waits
3/5
Tough album to go through. The way he played with his voice made things difficult.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Sounds dated, but very pleasant sounding overall.
The Byrds
4/5
This was a nice country sound to me!
The Prodigy
4/5
I ended up enjoying this more than I thought I would. I’m glad it wasn’t just music sounding like it was made for The Matrix.
The Clash
5/5
Great energy from start to finish.
Nirvana
5/5
Unexpectedly better than I thought it would be for an unplugged album. Doing lesser known songs and covers was a great direction.
Khaled
4/5
There were a lot of moments throughout that I enjoyed with the instrumentals.
Milton Nascimento
4/5
This was a nice musical journey. There were some parts that did drag, but they were still pleasant to listen to.
David Bowie
4/5
There’s a lot of this album that felt very theatrical. I also felt like the overall quality of the album got better near the end.
The White Stripes
4/5
A lot of different instruments were used throughout, which kept things interesting. Nice album overall.
The Clash
5/5
Great album! Not sure if I like this one or the first one that was recommended more.
LCD Soundsystem
4/5
Didn't know what to expect going into this - it was a nice mix of sounds throughout. Some parts I didn't like as much, but I found there to be something that would quickly follow to make the experience not as bad.
Beck
4/5
He had a lot of interesting sound/instrumentation choices throughout. Oddly enough, I found his voice monotonous yet pleasant.
Dion
3/5
This was an alright listen. Decent enough background music. Nothing stood out in particular.
Pink Floyd
4/5
Great music. Definitely felt dated to the 60s, but not in a bad way. Not as good as other projects I've heard from them.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
5/5
I think this one reached me at a great time. Very enjoyable listen!
3/5
For the most part this was coffee shop music to me. Some interesting sounds throughout, but nothing stood out to me in any way in particular.
Pentangle
2/5
I was not in the mood to hear folk today. I was counting down the minutes on this album - too “ye olde music” sounding for me.
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
Great album! Maybe I'll consider watching the film to see how the songs line up with it.
R.E.M.
3/5
This was pretty bland to me - it didn't feel like there was a lot of energy behind what I heard/nothing jumped out to me in particular. I was surprised to see the acclaim it garnered. I feel this is another case of I just didn't "get" it.
Dwight Yoakam
3/5
This sound of country is just not my cup of tea. Interesting sounds, however!
The Beach Boys
4/5
I actually enjoyed this one more than the first one I listened to. This one sounded deeper musically and lyrically than that one.
Metallica
5/5
I had heard Enter Sandman before, so I was curious how the rest of the album would compare. Great stuff!
Black Sabbath
5/5
I was really impressed with this album - great songs from start to finish!
The Police
3/5
I like the album more in the later half than the first half. Interesting instrumentals but the whole overall sound just didn't "connect" with me.
Fleetwood Mac
4/5
I think I'd need a few more listens to really appreciate this album. I saw that it had major critical acclaim - it was a solid album to go through, but it didn't stand out THAT much to me on first listen.
Suicide
2/5
This started off promising and then went downhill for me. Not my cup of tea - not even my warm beverage of choice. Some cool sounds sprinkled throughout, but it sounded like they were trying hard to sound weird and different just for the sake of sounding weird and different.
Boston
3/5
This sounds like the kind of rock you'd hear at a bar in the 80s or blasting from someone's dad's garage. Sounded nice, but I didn't find it to be anything special.
Van Morrison
4/5
I enjoyed this one! It took a moment to get used to his voice - it added some texture to the songs. The instruments used also really added to everything. I really wish this site gave half stars in this case. I feel like its a solid 4.5, but not a 5.
Dolly Parton
5/5
The first song was something else. Straightforward and simple, yet deep songs. A great listen!
TLC
4/5
Honestly, not really my kind of sound. It was better than your average album (hence the rating), but it just didn't click for me.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
This is another case of the artist's voice not working with me. His voice comes across as if he is parodying someone, but it is clear that's just his voice.
Pulp
4/5
I enjoyed this one! It gave a sense of nostalgia throughout - it reminded me of pop music from the '80s (in a good way).
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
Unfortunately another one I just didn't "get". Too slow and melancholic for me. I felt like this dragged far more than other albums I've listened to - I checked the time left a lot more than usual.
a-ha
3/5
Nice 80s pop music. Didn't really stand out to me past that.
Missy Elliott
4/5
This was nice to have in the background playing - not necessarily my type of hip hop however.
Dusty Springfield
4/5
Definitely dated, but there were some really solid moments on this.
Travis
3/5
This was an alright album. Nothing amazing, but nothing particularly bad. I liked the last song a lot.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
5/5
Great album! Could have this on repeat for a while without getting tired of it.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Very great album. However, I did find it to be quite melancholic. I would give this a 4.5, but not a 5.
Rod Stewart
4/5
Great energy throughout!
Pearl Jam
3/5
Honestly I feel like nostalgia makes me want to give this a higher rating. I found this to be alright overall. Not great, but not bad.
Christine and the Queens
4/5
Cool, unconventional sounds!
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Great album! I can't believe that Kashmir isn't influenced by the James Bond theme.
Method Man
4/5
I'm honestly a little conflicted on this. I think it sounds a little too much like 36 chambers. On one hand, this is great, since I love that album. On the other hand, I wish he separated his sounded a little more from that project. Still a solid album overall.
Beck
4/5
Another wonderful album from Beck! A lot of variation (in a good way).
3/5
This was a lot. Kudos to Yes for being able to make these songs - it takes a lot of artistry and skill - but this was too much into the prog rock side of things for me.
Oasis
4/5
Solid album. A little annoyed with the lead's singing voice, but I could push past it with this project.
Foo Fighters
4/5
This was a nice little project. Good energy. Kind of interesting to hear some similarities in Grohl's vocals to Cobain's.
Depeche Mode
4/5
A lot of unconventional sounds throughout, but they were interesting!
Steely Dan
4/5
Great listen! I really liked Show Biz Kids.
Meat Puppets
4/5
There were parts that sounded fantastic and then there were parts that sounded a little too "out there" for my ears. I'd personally put it at 3.5 if I could.
Kendrick Lamar
5/5
Another personal favourite that I am biased towards. Amazing album.
The Mothers Of Invention
4/5
This was another album where I found parts that sounded fantastic, but there were other parts that sounded a little too "out there". Another 3.5 if it were possible.
Eels
3/5
This album comes across as they are trying to be bigger and and deeper than they really are.
Japan
3/5
This album was alright - nothing mind-blowing. Pleasant to have in the background playing.
David Crosby
3/5
There was a lot of pleasant sounding instrumentals throughout this entire project, which made for good background music. There was nothing that stood out to me in particular, however.
OutKast
5/5
Another personal favourite here!
Dexys Midnight Runners
3/5
This was definitely a case where the singer's voice really took away from the quality of the project for me - I could not get over it!
Black Sabbath
5/5
Great project! I feel like Vol .4 was better than this, but this was still really good nonetheless. 4.5 if that was possible.
The Avalanches
4/5
I really enjoyed this! Reminded me of Justice's music.
David Bowie
4/5
This was very vibey and kinda felt like it should be the soundtrack for a film. Interesting album from Bowie!
Manic Street Preachers
3/5
This album didn't stand out to me in any particular way. Very much an average sounding album to me.
John Grant
4/5
Not a strong start for me, but the music did grow on me as the album continued. There was a lot of push and pull in terms of me not liking/liking the sounds I heard throughout, but overall this was a solid album.
Björk
3/5
I recognize that this had a lot of varied and interesting sounds throughout, but this was a little too weird and out there for my personal taste.
The Associates
3/5
This was not my cup of tea. Some of the instrumentals were interesting at times, but they also annoyed me at times. Same with the singer's vocals.
The Crusaders
4/5
Great background music - it caught my ears a few times throughout.
Soft Machine
2/5
This was just not my thing. A 10+ minute long song is pushing it for me - having four nearly-20 minute songs was too much. It was too far out there at times. It did seem to get better at times, but I found myself counting the minutes between those moments.
Stevie Wonder
5/5
Amazing album from start to finish. Great instrumentals, great voice, great energy.
Astrud Gilberto
3/5
Pleasant sounding, but came off as very dated. It was nice to have playing in the background.
Bill Callahan
4/5
I liked this one! It felt simple, yet larger than life at the same time.
Radiohead
3/5
I was not in the mood for this. A lot of varied sounds throughout, but a lot of it was in your face and came across more as noise.
4/5
Solid album throughout!
Ice Cube
4/5
Solid album, but it definitely sounds dated with its production.
Ryan Adams
4/5
This came off as influenced by Bob Dylan's music - there were definitely quite a few similarities throughout. I liked his voice in comparison to BD.
Radiohead
4/5
Great project. There were a few points where some of the sounds were questionable, but these moments were easily forgivable after the fact.
Talk Talk
3/5
His voice was okay to me for some of this, but it annoyed me a little throughout. This is an album I'd be okay with leaving on if it was already playing, but I wouldn't go out of my way to put it on myself.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
CCR's albums so far have all been great - they always come with great energy and instrumentals. This album is no exception to that.
Radiohead
5/5
Amazing work. Not perfect (would rate 4.5), but it tends to being so. Only major complaint was it felt as if some parts were a little too loud at times.
Big Black
3/5
This one was a difficult listen. There were many parts throughout that sounded great, but they were pushed behind harsh filters/distortions. This made a lot of the album just come off as "noise", even when there was great instrumentation in the background. Maybe that was the point? If all that "noise" was removed, I'm sure I would enjoy this album even more.
Neil Young
4/5
Really strong album - I would give it a 4.5 if possible.
Nina Simone
5/5
What a voice - amazing depth from her.
The Who
3/5
This album had great sounds throughout - unfortunately, it just did not connect with me. I can tell this is a great album, but it's just not for me.
Ride
3/5
This was a decent album, but it was not my thing to listen to.
Michael Jackson
4/5
A fun album! I felt like it kind of lost some of its momentum part way through, but it was still a wonderful listen.
Ray Charles
4/5
This is definitely an album that sounds dated, but his singing is lovely on this.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
This is another album that sounds dated to me. They put on a good performance throughout, though - great energy.
The Waterboys
3/5
Well this was different. Very old-timey and what I would think of if someone mentioned folk music from the UK. There were some parts that really caught my ear (more than I thought they would). I'd say this is definitely a solid listen, but I wouldn't go out of my to listen to it.
Pere Ubu
2/5
This is an example of a musical decision that I can't follow/agree with. Many of the sounds were quite weird and came across as noise. This album was personally hard to get through.
The Smiths
4/5
This one was pretty high energy. I feel like it got better near the end. Solid listen!
4/5
Wow - this was a wonderful listen!
Madonna
4/5
I honestly didn't go in with high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this album. A solid listen!
Blondie
3/5
I had higher expectations based on the two songs I already knew. Oh well.
Fiona Apple
4/5
I liked the second half of the album more than the first half.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
3/5
This album had some alright moments - not necessarily my thing. I would give it a 3.5, however (if possible).
Iron Maiden
5/5
I liked this album and I'm sure it would grow on me with even more listens.
CHIC
4/5
I was expecting more songs like "Le Freak", but unfortunately that wasn't the case. The album was solid regardless.
Fiona Apple
3/5
Unfortunately this FA project had the kind of sound that I don't normally gravitate towards. It had good moments, but there was a lot that didn't resonate with me.
Public Enemy
5/5
Amazing album! I'd personally give it 4.5 if possible.
Prince
5/5
A classic. The title track was definitely the best way to close off the album.
Beastie Boys
4/5
This felt like it dragged a little at times. I wasn't personally a fan of their delivery style at times (voices came off as too "screamy"). The good parts were strong though.
Beach House
5/5
The overall vibes of this album hit me just right. Amazing.
Kraftwerk
3/5
Again - another time in which I wish I had the ability to give half stars. I’d give this one a 3.5 without hesitation if possible. Solid album. Easy listen. Don’t think I’d really go back to it however.
Dire Straits
4/5
This was some solid, easy listening. Great album that I think I could listen to more in the future.
Cowboy Junkies
3/5
This grew on me as the album went on, but this was not my thing. The lead singer had a wonderful voice, however.
Miles Davis
4/5
I don't know much about Jazz, but this was a nice album to have in the background while I worked on things.
Jurassic 5
3/5
This was really not my kind of rap/hip-hop and I knew that 2 songs in. I gave it a higher rating than I wanted to just based on the merit of their rapping capabilities.
4/5
This felt like a long jam session at times (especially with the two longer songs). It was a little slow for my preferences, but there was a lot of changes in pace and instrumentation that kept things interesting.
Super Furry Animals
3/5
This album didn't stand out to me in any particular way.
Wilco
4/5
This was a pleasant listen!
Leonard Cohen
4/5
His approach to making music is so unique. Part of me was annoyed with his delivery, but it did grow on me. As a whole, the songs were done well. Solid work!
Madness
3/5
The overall sound that the had going on here wasn't my cup of tea. There were parts that sounded really good, but not enough popped up throughout the album.
Thin Lizzy
4/5
This was a fantastic live album! The energy was great throughout. I would give it a 4.5 if possible.
Fever Ray
3/5
This one was a little too out there for my liking. There was some interesting sounds throughout, but it just didn't "click" with me.
3/5
This was another weird one for me to listen to. It did sound interesting, but it just didn't connect with me. I found myself confused on some of the musical sound choices made in this album.
Taylor Swift
4/5
This was a wonderful listen - the songs I hadn't heard before had a lot of interesting sounds!
5/5
I was waiting for this one to be recommended on here. I think the hype behind it is fair.
Faith No More
3/5
Not really my cup of tea - the mix of genres was just not a sound I could get into.
Hanoi Rocks
3/5
This was "fun" music to listen to, but it didn't really do much for me. I would have probably rated it lower if it didn't sound as "fun" throughout.
Peter Gabriel
4/5
Honestly this album grew on me more than I expected it would - it was a shaky start but overall a great listen!
The Replacements
4/5
Solid album. Wasn't initially feeling some of it, but I feel like I settled into it and after that point it really flowed along well.
Korn
2/5
This was difficult listen. I didn't really like this kind of music back in the 90's and early 00's and it looks like I still don't.
The Charlatans
4/5
This was a nice album to listen to. Very easy on the ears.
Jethro Tull
3/5
I heard some good sounds throughout, but I'm just not big on prog rock... especially when it starts to sound like something I would hear at a medieval fair.
The Stooges
5/5
Amazing! I didn't know what I was getting myself into beforehand and this album blew me away. My only complaint is the mixing, but I can look past that for this.
Traffic
4/5
Very polished album - great to listen to from start to end.
Nick Drake
5/5
Honestly I wouldn't consider myself one for folk, but this album had a lot of beautiful arrangements. 5 is a little high (I would personally do 4.5), but 4 seems like a slap to the face.
Blue Cheer
4/5
I really enjoyed this album and think that with more listens it may grow on me more.
The Zutons
4/5
I was surprised that this was made 20ish years ago! Everything sounded older (in a good way), like it was made in the '60s. Kinda cool that it had that aesthetic. I would rate this a 3.5, but I'm okay with a 4.
Marvin Gaye
5/5
Admittedly I didn't pay attention to the title and listened to "What's Going On" in whole before realizing I chose the wrong album. I have the same opinion of both albums, however, so all is well in the world. An amazing voice, wonderful singing, and beautiful instrumentals.
The Prodigy
3/5
This album definitely transported me the late 90s. Not really my style of music. A lot of it had great energy/was fun sounding. I would give it a 3.5 if possible.
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
This was a solid album! Very easy listening.
Suede
4/5
I had this on in the background and enjoyed what I heard. I would give it 3.5 if possible, but 4 is okay.
Prince
4/5
I enjoyed this, but the sex related content was definitely a little too much at times.
Cream
4/5
I really enjoyed a lot of this. Great older sounding tunes! I would give a 4.5 if possible.
Gary Numan
4/5
This was the right kind of out there for me - I really enjoyed the futuristic sounds used throughout.
Thundercat
4/5
Solid project!
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Not as much of a fan of this album as the last one I heard from him. Overall just too slow for my liking.
Kelela
3/5
Honestly not my vibe. Definitely some vibes music.
Wire
4/5
I liked the second half more than the first half. Great energy there. If it was just the second half, then I’d probably give it a 5.
Massive Attack
4/5
When I saw this was an electronic album from the 90s, I was a little worried that it would be like other electronic albums from that era. I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't sound like those. This was a solid listen.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
Wonderful album! I really felt it ended on a high with the last couple of songs! I'd give it a 4.5 if possible.
Tim Buckley
4/5
I really enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Long songs are typically not my thing, but they flowed really well. I'd give this a 4.5 if possible.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
Wonderful album. Honestly the run time was a little long for me - I think this is cause there was a lot of songs near the end that sounded like they'd be a good end point.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
5/5
I really liked this one! I was think it was a wonderful collaboration project.
Rod Stewart
3/5
Honestly I think Rod's singing performance on this made the album easier to listen to. Musically, there were times when I didn't like the instrumentals as much, but he carried the song enough to make it bearable. I'd rate 3.5 if possible.
Sam Cooke
4/5
This was a really great live performance - amazing energy from SC.
Janis Joplin
4/5
A solid album. The band played very well. She sang very well too. My only gripe is how rough her voice was and some of the sounds she made sometimes.
The Go-Go's
3/5
This was a fun sounding album, but I didn't think it was anything spectacular.
Red Snapper
3/5
This album did not appeal to me and was a tough listen. Any music that makes me feel like it could have been in The Matrix just doesn't land right on my ears.
Radiohead
5/5
This was the nice kind of weird and out there!
The Band
4/5
This was one of my those “put it on and have it play in the background” kind of albums. Solid, but definitely dated.
Fun Lovin' Criminals
2/5
I didn't like this one.
Eagles
5/5
Wonderful album. I'm personally surprised that the album starts off with Hotel California. It always sounded like a closing song. That being said, the last song made for a solid closing song. Definitely could enjoy this in most situations.
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
4/5
This was definitely a dated-sounding album, but it was nice to have it playing in the background.
Os Mutantes
2/5
Just too much going on for me - came across as too much sounds at a lot of points.
Happy Mondays
2/5
This did not fall right on my ears.
Sisters Of Mercy
3/5
Honestly this started strong but in the end I felt like it came across as a compilation of generic sounding 80s music.
The Stone Roses
3/5
This makes me think of music you’d hear from a live band if you’d go out to a pub with some friends. Not bad.
Brian Eno
4/5
I think the title perfectly tempered my expectations - wonderful album to have on in the background. My only issue with it was the vocals that popped up in the middle two tracks - they were too much for me to not ignore.
Heaven 17
3/5
This was an odd sounding one to me. I do feel like with another listen or two I'd like it more, but I don't feel inclined to test that theory.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
Solid album by Jimi! At times it felt a little unfocused and unpolished - sometimes those translated well to the overall vibes, but at other times not so much.
Hole
3/5
This was nice to have in the background playing. Nothing in particular was mind-blowing or bad. Overall, I feel pretty neutral to this one.
The Modern Lovers
5/5
I really enjoyed this album! Wonderful listen!
Wu-Tang Clan
5/5
A personal favourite. Not a big fan of the interspersed skits, but they do help paint a picture to how conditions were for them. Love the grittiness throughout.
Stevie Wonder
5/5
A beautiful, powerful album. This was a wonderful listen!
5/5
This was great! There were times I got concerned with the music cause it was heading in a direction that I didn’t like, but they were quick to switch it up before it got to that point - what a wonderful surprise!
Eric Clapton
5/5
Easy listening, but still quite complex. Really great!
Pink Floyd
5/5
This was an album I was excited to see pop up - always happy to re-listen to it. Amazing album!
Morrissey
3/5
Not really my type of music to listen to. It was alright to have playing in the background, but it didn't stand out in any particular way.
Tricky
3/5
I don't know exactly what it was about this album, but I did not like it. I think the overall sound and the male performer's voice rubbed my the wrong way. I can't really explain it. The songs were alright for the most part though.
David Bowie
5/5
A wonderful listen! I was really excited to hear another Bowie album - he always seems to have some excellent work.
Little Richard
4/5
Definitely sounds dated, but there's great energy throughout. A fun album overall.
Tina Turner
4/5
Such a strong voice from TT. Great performance!
Emmylou Harris
4/5
Honestly this ended up being better than I thought it would be. I really enjoyed her cover of Parton.
Johnny Cash
5/5
This was an amazing live album - probably the best I can think of.
King Crimson
3/5
Objectively, they did a lot musically on this album... it just wasn't my thing. I would say this is more of a 3.5 for me, but I can't justify bumping it up to a 4.
Small Faces
3/5
I honestly had higher hopes for this album based on the first couple of songs. I was not a fan of the narration that popped up. Also, some of the musical choices just didn't fall nicely on my ears.
Louis Prima
4/5
Not necessarily the style of music that I like, but I found this to be fun to listen to!
The War On Drugs
4/5
This reminded me of live bands playing in a bar. This was nice to have playing in the background. I'd personally rate this a 3.5, but I'm okay with placing it at 4 instead.
Cheap Trick
3/5
This was a nice listen. It didn't really stand out to me in any particular way.
Genesis
4/5
Solid collection of songs. I think the length of this was a little too much.
Public Enemy
5/5
Definitely has a dated sound, but this was very interesting to hear. I could here a lot of samples that popped up in other hip-hop songs that came out after, so that was very interesting to hear. Great energy and strong messages throughout.
The Louvin Brothers
3/5
This was a solid listen, but very much not the type of music that I like/falls on my ears well. It was okay to have playing while I worked, but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it.
Marvin Gaye
5/5
Wonderful listen! Shaky start for me, but everything sounded amazing from the second song onwards - both instrumentals and singing.
D'Angelo
4/5
I think this album was solid. Great instrumentals and he has a beautiful singing voice. He kept the same energy throughout, which kind of left me wanting something more from him.
Talking Heads
3/5
I can see the artistry behind this project and understand why it has received the acclaim that it has, but I was not in the mood to really hear something like this today. I'm sitting more on a 3.5 for this one, but I'm not in the mood to bump it up to 4.
The Youngbloods
3/5
Meh. This one wasn't for me. Good parts throughout, but it didn't catch my ears.
The Cure
3/5
This had alright vibes. It was fine to have playing in the background, but nothing really stood out.
The Doors
4/5
This was a fun listen. Morrison's voice and the instrumentals were great to hear.
The La's
3/5
Decent enough to have playing in the background. A few moments stuck out more than the rest, but a lot of those moments didn't take a hold of me in any major way.
Elton John
4/5
Great energy and performances throughout. I'm not particular towards his voice, however. It sounds good, but something about it doesn't fall right.
John Coltrane
4/5
I don't think I necessarily have a great ear for jazz, but I thought this album was well done!
