A frequent flyer on the radio station I listened to in high school - pretty formative for expanding my music taste
Nostalgic because one of my friends went through a not-like-other-girls phase in middle school where she wore ties to school every day was obsessed with AC/DC. Idk why this album doesnβt start off with Back In Black.
Nice soundtrack for working. Admittedly when listening to this I forgot that REM and Radiohead were different bands
I liked this more than I expected to, would be good work background music. Spotify gave me dancing on my own after the album ended which was an added perk
No complaints
German Tomorrowland ambient music
real jailhouse rock. a bit distractingly fun to work to (did more dancing than working). also Johnny Cash really loved coke
Objectively fine but I think I have enough moody British men in my Spotify that I donβt see this being something I repeat, but I wouldnβt skip if it came on an artist radio.
neu thank you
This was fun, I like the jammy-ness with instruments you donβt really hear in this kind of music.
Textbook boomer dad rock (in perfectly fine way)
A little too heavy for my taste but I can understand why itβs well-regarded
Probably a 2.5. Wouldnβt seek out before other Bowie albums but I did enjoy it and would enjoy it on an artist radio shuffle. Rounding up because I like the artist
Felt like background music for a restaurant. Fine enough but probably wonβt go back to
Youtube commercials between every song definitely messed with the experience here, but this was all new to me and I generally really enjoyed it. Still hoping she and Spotify make up one day
I hadnβt heard of Elliott Smith before this but I really enjoyed the album, it makes sense how heβs influenced other artists I do listen to regularly.
This is something I heard a lot as a kid and it was my first time revisiting it in full as an adult. Listened a few times this weekend and I really enjoyed eat with each go
There were a few songs I liked but generally Iβm not huge on 60s pop
I never need to hear that again lol
Two only because compared to other Eminem albums I wouldnβt pick this one, but I do generally like him even if some of it is π₯΄
First time hearing the whole album and not just the radio songs, really liked it. Lauryn Hillβs cover of Killing Me Softly remains the GOAT
This was fun. Very boppy. Good music for walking around an airport
Better than the other without the doowap stuff. Good plane napping music so if weβre judging by that, itβs still not my favorite.
Replacement level power rock, but fine enough. I donβt understand why bands from this era write songs about how much they need to rock
This was fun. Definitely a bit repetitive but good focus music for me and I love Annie Lennoxβs voice
This reminded me of early Lennon/McCarthy and Rolling Stones rejects. They sound like about five different bands depending on the song but I enjoyed it
I wanted to like this more than I did
Fun but not really for me. All kind of blended together
Nice chill background music for working but wasnβt a huge standout for me
I donβt think I had ever actually listened to anything Zappa before this, but this was good! Not a huge fan of his vocals but I liked the instrumentals
Another album I enjoyed that very much made me wish I was listening to the Beatles
I like
This was really great, no complaints.
Meh, not for me. Not a great sign when I was happy for it to be over
This really grew on me while I was listening.
Prototype boomer dad rock. Nothing stellar but enjoyable enough
Not my favorite Beatles generally, but this album has a few songs that I really love among the broader catalog. Itβs a really sonically cohesive album - something the band definitely moves away from later in their time together as they begin to branch out their own writing. Itβs not the best (by far) or most interesting Beatles album for that reason, but itβs a pleasant listen and I think it perfectly captures the energy the fueled that initial Beatlemania (says the person born in 1992 but whatever). After I listened to this I went into the Across the Universe soundtrack and man that movie is such a fever dream
Meh, also felt like moody dark restaurant music. Liked it a little but really tired in me quickly. 1.5
I still remember when I got this album as a kid, and it was something I listened to a lot when I was really young. The standouts hold up but the manufactured-ness of it is pretty clear compared to more personal pop music thatβs more ubiquitous these days. Itβs also hard not to feel like itβs a bit of a cautionary tale now.
Itβs good fight me
Boring Beatles
Opinion still a bit colored by Eminem being a hater
I wanted to like this more than I did but generally found it pleasant but boring. Wouldnβt skip but wouldnβt seek out
Sleepy video game music
Pretty fine. The best parts of this reminded me of early Arctic Monkeys. I probably wonβt revisit but not a terrible listen
I liked it more than I expected to but overall probably wonβt listen again
Hits perfectly with every listen (I listened like five times yesterday so)
This was a pleasant surprise considering I had zero expectations.
Meh
Filler be filling, hits be hitting
Shout out to Uncle John
Something I vaguely remember hearing when I was young, enjoyed despite my general apathy towards all this random 90s bands were getting
Jammy video game load screen music (also would fit in a bad 90s spy movie)
This is the first time Iβve listened to full Stones albums and I get it now
Kraut did not rock for me
Nice and jammy (especially on a day that feels summery) but not stand outs from Marleyβs music
Pleasant but not super memorable
Good!
Was surprised to find a Queen album that was entirely new to me, but this was great (less surprised by that part)
Pleasantly jammy
Respect the impact and cultural importance but not something Iβll come back to
Fine but unremarkable
Wasnβt over fast enough
This album was mostly new to me but enjoyable because Bowie
More like Ick-arus amiright
This was kind of all over the place. Not necessarily in a bad way, but a lot of different sounds. Parts I liked but probably wonβt revisit
Makes me want to be in a dingy dark pub in Ireland. Also I assumed Linda Thompson was Paul McCartneyβs wife until I read the Wikipedia article after I finished it. Oops.
Itβs really interesting to hear how similar all of these bands were when they first started out. 2.5 but Iβll round up
V pleasant, no complaints
Enjoyed this more than I expected. Vocals reminded me of some of the non-falsetto Bon Iver sounds (especially on his first two albums)
Fine but unremarkable
I donβt think Iβve ever listened to this album front to back before, but I knew pretty much every song save one or two. Itβs solid all around without feeling bloated by filler. Not something I see myself dipping into often but definitely understand why the album had the impact it did
I think in another life Iβd really like the smiths but I donβt need them
Middle school garage band noise
Boring
Not much of a casually listen to jazz by myself person but I can respeck
This isnβt my favorite Elton John work but it gets 4 stars because itβs Elton John
Fine enough
Fine enough
Generally really enjoyed but standouts were still the songs I already knew
this was so long
Yawn fine
really pleasant and simple. Hadnβt heard before but I really enjoyed this and see myself coming back to it
i feel like Iβm not knowledgeable about the genre enough to really review this but I enjoyed it for not knowing much about Nas (aside from a general awareness of him)
I enjoyed this more than I expected to. Pleasant background music. 2.5
Also liked this more than the other Smiths album we had. Morrissey has an interesting voice and I donβt love it, but itβs growing on me
Great soundtrack for working for the government
I think thereβs a reason only one of these is really known
Boy was this a slog. These are not The Bee Gees youβre looking for - theyβre much worse
This was really great considering I had no expectations going into it. Really enjoyed their version of America
Great vocals and songwriting and I appreciated that there was almost a jazzy vibe to this at certain points. Good background music
Theyβre talented musicians and good at what theyβre going but man are these lyrics dumb af
Really struggled to get into this one
Respect it for what it is but not really something I vibed with
I like
Fine enough
Beautiful gowns
Meh didnβt hate but probably wonβt revisit
First time listening all the way through. Iβm not sure how much Iβll go back to it but I did enjoy it
I think one of my biggest takeaways from this project is I enjoy The Rolling Stones more than I thought I did
I started out enjoying this but it became increasingly plodding as it went on. I didnβt mind how it all flowed together at first but when my work day ended and it wasnβt background noise, I couldnβt do it anymore. 2 only because maybe if it was just music for when I have to write I would enjoy it more
no more Tomorrowland background music I am begging you
Really enjoyed this
Not the best for listening in the office
This album feels like a bunch of musical side quests of each Beatle starting to hone their individual styles. Not my favorite Beatles album overall, but a very solid listen with a perfect ending in A Day in the Life
Hated it
Aside from the music being top notch I think Robert Plant has one of my favorite rock frontman voices
Still in the category of not really my taste but thereβs some really good guitar work on this that was fun to listen to
Fine but unremarkable
highly enjoyable
I listened to this and forgot to rate. Itβs cool to hear the fusion of hip hop and eastern sounds but overall not something I return to outside the 2-3 times of year I hear paper planes in public or on the radio. 2.5 rounded down because weirdo
This was great. First time listening to a full RHCP album and I really enjoyed it.
This album came out when I was in my peak time of spending weekend mornings watching VH1βs music video countdown, aka a fairly formative time in me discovering music. I vividly remember seeing The Scientist on there and loving the video, and for a song thatβs pretty highly rated, I still find it a bit underrated. This music is simple but (IMO) impactful. Green Eyes is special to me as a person with green eyes and occasional main character syndrome. Love this album haters be damned!!
Good for not falling asleep on the train when I didnβt want to, not good for lyricism
Pleasant background music
ZZ Top is definitely a blindspot for me aside from La Grange and I really liked this. Will definitely explore more
Better than I expected but thereβs better daft punk out there
2.5? Rounding down because doesnβt inspire me to seek more
Much more enjoyable with more focus than the live album
Iβve always enjoyed Stevie Wonder but after the two weβve had through this so far, I really see myself seeking out and repeating these more.
V pleasant
Enjoyable but what I liked most I already knew
Meh
I really should probably give this another listen because it was fine but unremarkable but the fact that I wonβt feel like it means 2
I saw Solange at a festival when she was touring for this album and donβt feel like I really got to appreciate it because the venue did not do it justice. Her voice is great and this album is understate but a really pleasant listen, will definitely revisit
I wanted to like this more than I did. Lovefool is great and I hoped the rest would hit similarly but I was really underwhelmed by most of it. 2.5
Perfectly fine background noise for working
Iβve always liked what I knew of Led Zeppelin but Iβve definitely been sleeping on them because I really loved this album. Their guitar work, particularly the acoustic, is very *them* and I think Robert Plant has one of my favorite voices in rock. Tangerine was a standout for me on this
This album reminded me of my grandpop so while I donβt see myself listening to the genre more, I do have an appreciation and affection for it. This was a really cool time capsule and I appreciate that the narration wasnβt removed. Also cool to hear a Quincy jones name drop. Good fantasy draft background music.
I genuinely really like Running Up That Hill (shout out to The Vampire Diaries soundtrack) and I ironically love a Kate Bush song not on this album (Wuthering Heights music video 5ever) but the rest of this is very meh for me. For someone who loves theatre and over the top music, the vast majority of this is too out there for me
Meh
Sheryl Crow is a much more interesting artist than any song of hers best to death by commercials for resorts and this album was pleasantly surprising
Arcade Fire is a blindspot for me, so Wake Up was the only track from this that I knew. The album lived up to its reputation for me, and I really loved the instrumentation and general sound. I found the lyrics a little hard to discern at times, but I will definitely be revisiting this/exploring more of their discography
The War Pigs cover was the only enjoyable part of this
Beastie Boys are generally fun but I wasnβt expecting the direction this went in with the instrumental tracks. Really pleasant surprise and led to an interesting post-album shuffle
I havenβt listened to this album a ton (or maybe even all the way through ever tbh). The first two singles didnβt hit for me like her first two albums did, so I didnβt give it the time it definitely deserved.
Fine but generally fairly boring
This was fine but unremarkable. 2.5 if I could
This wasnβt bad but itβs just not a subgenre of rock that I particularly enjoy
I liked this! More than I was expecting to honestly. Still not over that it is the Blur guy
This was different and fun. Would revisit
This all kind of blended together for me. As background music for work it was fine, but that product wasnβt as engaging as the titles
I was happy when this ended
Another fine, didnβt dislike, didnβt inspire me to pursue more
I think Iβve listened to this two or three times now and never rated it. Iβm not usually one for ambient music but this is great reading on the train music for me and I can see myself branching out to more Sigur RΓ³s
Parts of this I enjoyed and it was an interesting bookend to a life and career but not really for me generally
Not my genre but pleasant background music
Iβm meh on the Night Life
Bob Marley was the perfect good mood chaser after Korn
Another utterly uninteresting miscellaneous rock album from the 90s
I actually didnβt wholly hate this, probably a but because my brother used to listen to this album a lot when it first came out, I have a soft spot for freak on a leash. Didnβt mind it but things went downhill when Fred Durst showed up
This is fine, a little boring and repetitive. More enjoyable to me than the new wave 80s pop. Probably actually 2.5 but Iβll round up
I wasnβt sure how I felt at first but this really grew on me. I liked the song with Thom Yorke a lot. The album kind of reminded me of a more chill Liz Phair
Agree that the other Willie album was better.
Pleasant but again, was mostly just above average background music and not something I expect will send me on much of a journey. 2.5
Tbh I didnβt hate it. Should have ended on Livin on a Prayer though
Not a ton of standouts to me (aside from realizing about halfway through one of the songs that it was called Alison and also spelled my way, so kudos), but this was pleasant. Itβs interesting to hear what sounds like early ska influencers in his music
Iβm biased but bangers front to back
Songs from this usually end up in my Spotify shuffling, but this was the first time Iβve listened to the album in its entirety. Not a hot take but I really love Maybe Iβm Amazed
This was great would definitely come back to this.
The ambient lo-fi music just isnβt for me
REM is objectively fine and I donβt have any major qualms with them - I donβt mind listening, but I probably wonβt be back aside from the songs I already knew. Soft 3, hard 2
I love this album to begin with, so always happy for a reason to listen to it. Itβs an emotional journey that breaks with Supercut - a song that lyrically/musically you can really feel yourself in. Perfect Places feels a bit out of place at the end after the rawness of Liability, but I really like that song so itβs fine. Sorry Lena Dunham
Not my favorite Bowie but it was fine. 2.5 but probably wouldnβt repeat so rounded down
I donβt need to come back to this
Scorned people singing about the people that scorned them and/or the people that assisted with the scorning + some coke made some beautiful music. Justice for Silver Springs forever though, we are scorned for that being withheld from the original release
Itβs sooooo long and my favorite track is Tonight, Tonight so thereβs a lot to get through after that
I enjoyed this but realistically it wonβt be something I repeat.
Holds up!
Just fine, nothing I need to come back to
I found this v boring compared to our other missy album. Nothing stuck out from this
Good but kind of dragged towards the end. 3.5
I probably could benefit from a second listen to really judge this, but I also donβt particularly feel like it. When listening as background noise the thing that caught my attention most was the random sex interlude, which doesnβt bode well for the rest of the album
I like some of it but thereβs a disparity between what was commercially successful and the rest of the album (kids vs. the youth, imo). It does feel out of place though. There was a lot of this more electro-alternative coming up around this time, and Iβm not sure MGMT is quite so formative for that genre
I donβt dislike Bob Dylan but this felt superfluous and the live element didnβt add anything for me
Fine but unremarkable
I really enjoyed this - calling BB King talented is not a hot take but I had never really listened to it before. His voice really pulls you in an this was a fun listen
Meh
Fine but a little boring
For whatever reason, this album hit more with me than the other Dylans weβve gotten so far. They should make a movie about this guy
Meh. Fine background music for working but not something Iβll come back to ever
Enjoyable but unremarkable
This was fine but Iβve never gotten the hype of Radiohead. Above average background music for me
I do not vibe with vibey ambient restaurant music
Iβm sorry if I could give this 0 I would
More video game music
I really enjoyed about half of this album, and the rest of it is probably a 3 for me. 3.5
I donβt think I knew any Thin Lizzy aside from the Boys Are Back in Town, but I enjoyed this more than I expected. Not sure why this specifically was on the list, but it was good. Also the Tower Theatre is in Upper Darby not Philly
This was largely unpleasant unfortunately. Iβve never listened to Tom Waits and had heard good things but I was underwhelmed
Would have been a four if this had Careless Whisper on it
I am pretty neutral on the smiths. Theyβre fine and I can see why people love them, but theyβre solidly in the wouldnβt seek out category for me
A very member berries 4 but any iteration of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young reminds me of childhood. Holds up
Iβm not huge on the doors but this was enjoyable enough. Theyβre not a skip for me
This was fun but I liked the vocals on the first track and wanted more of tht
Iβm pretty sure Iβve heard some of this at yoga. Also, good focus music for work writing
This was fun! I donβt know why theyβre so lost in the history of similar bands. Theyβre good enough imo
Very solid, though memorability of the second half is mixed. 4.5 for me probably
The most enjoyable (for me) Leonard Cohen thus far. Probably 2.5
Fine enough but unremarkable and nothing Iβll come back to
Enjoyable, but mostly because I generally enjoy 2000s indie. I wouldnβt say itβs a standout in the genre or unique enough to be on this list, but itβs certainly not close to the worst weβve gotten
For a band I knew nothing about, I really really liked this. At times it reminded me of a 90s alt rock play on 60s psychedelic rock.good listen and pretty engaging the entire time
I too love being Irish
Not quite sure where to put this one. I loved (and overplayed) this and their 2012 album quite a bit in college. 3.5 stars feels right but rounding down because it doesnβt reach a 4 for me
Eh, the songs I like on here I really like, but thatβs pretty much limited to singles and the rest wad more meh for me. Respect the talent though just not a personal fave
Darlene Loveβs White Christmas deserves more airplay
Pleasant but fairly boring. Other Beck music that I know is more interesting, but I like it for work background music
Not my favorite of the Stevie Wonder albums weβve had, but still really great
My dad was very happy to hear this one when I was trying to find albums from the list that heβd like for our road trip
LCD Soundsystem is a blindspot for me in terms of artists who people I think have good taste like and Iβd guess that Iβd enjoy as well. I was a little underwhelmed in that sense, but generally would say I did enjoy this and would explore further
LC is a really talented lyricist but again this really feels like spoken word poetry set to background music moreso than cohesive music
I love Karen Oβs voice and have always liked the handful of Yeah Yeah Yeahs songs I knew, but this album really hit for me, especially the acoustic versions of the songs at the end of the special edition. Great album that I will definitely come back to
So very fun to sing along to while making French onion soup, also the first time I heard all of this in the album context which was also fun
I donβt remember a ton about this, which I guess should inform my review
I saw Kanye in concert in 2014. It was pretty cool. It was a few days after the 10th anniversary of this album so he played a lot from this album. He also yelled about Charlamagne a lot. Weird how no one pays attention to him anymore. Anyway, fuck nazis.
1. The entire time the album was on I was waiting for the cats in the cradle song (what I expected Father & Son to be) and boy was I confused when it was not that and, because I was mid-flight, I couldnβt look this up. A later Google validates that Iβm not the only one to make this mistake. 2. I can appreciate that this album gave us Wild World, making the really random musical ending of Skins season one possible
The popular songs are good, the back half was a bit flat for me
Love me some sweet child o mine
This was fine. I like the doors enough not to skip, but idk if Iβd ever seek out
I can appreciate guitar playing that doesnβt make me miss a vocal line because itβs so smoooooooooth
A four tilted towards the hits if im being perfectly honest
Sorry to my neighbors
Not for me
I think itβs because I wasnβt exposed to them a ton growing up, but Talking Heads is fun but not necessarily something I ~get~ per se. Happy to get more exposure tho
Love this album and Kurt Cobainβs voice, I wonder what their work would have turned into if hadnβt died so young.
Rounding up to a 4. Enjoyed it more than a 3 but a lot of it is almost a bit too musically understated for my taste. Talking About a Revolution and Fast Car slap of course
Fine enough, I was very into Kings of Leon in like, 2008-09 like a lot of people were. That hasnβt really stuck but itβs not bad listening
Iβm sorry but so boring
How many times can you say pussy in one song
Reminded me of less interesting George Harrison
Spooky tbh
Artist radio after this album ended made me realize that I do like The Cure, but moreso their upbeat stuff than this album. Lovesong was really the only standout. 2.5 rounded down because realistically I wonβt seek out
What Grant said about someone saying I donβt mind this but itβs not my preference
Idk what rock I was under when Arcade Fire was at their peak but I could see myself being insufferably annoying about it had I caught the wave at that time
Admittedly half paying attention but this dragged for me and I was ready for it to end
confused how this is funk (but I know nothing about funk)
The most soundtrack of my childhood sound track of my childhood album yet. Best way I can describe this is music that feels like it would sound good in a stadium that doesnβt sound like it was written for a stadium
Personal disdain for the artist aside, no one loves John Lennon as much as John Lennon loved John Lennon and I think that sums up his work without the Beatles
Fun
This album has my favorite George Harrison tracks, my favorite Ringo song, and my favorite Paul work (seeing Paul do the Abbey Road Medley live twice are core memories for me). This is a comfort album for me and itβs definitely my favorite Beatles album all around, even if thatβs a boring take Johnβs there too I guess
i think I do prefer this album over folklore
Turning tables and the lovesong cover are *chefs kiss*
Where the Streets Have No Name and With or Without you are two of my favorite favorite songs but I could not bring myself to care about the rest of this album
Oooh baby I love baby I love your way
Every song kind of sounds the same but itβs fun
I donβt get it
I was not expecting to like this at all and wow. This was really cool and I can definitely see myself listening to it again, especially on a run
So many good csi theme songs
Not a personal favorite of mine generally/of the Black Sabbath Iβve listened to, but still fun
Back half falls off a bit for me
