A frequent flyer on the radio station I listened to in high school - pretty formative for expanding my music taste
Nostalgic because one of my friends went through a not-like-other-girls phase in middle school where she wore ties to school every day was obsessed with AC/DC. Idk why this album doesn’t start off with Back In Black.
Nice soundtrack for working. Admittedly when listening to this I forgot that REM and Radiohead were different bands
I liked this more than I expected to, would be good work background music. Spotify gave me dancing on my own after the album ended which was an added perk
No complaints
German Tomorrowland ambient music
real jailhouse rock. a bit distractingly fun to work to (did more dancing than working). also Johnny Cash really loved coke
Objectively fine but I think I have enough moody British men in my Spotify that I don’t see this being something I repeat, but I wouldn’t skip if it came on an artist radio.
neu thank you
This was fun, I like the jammy-ness with instruments you don’t really hear in this kind of music.
Textbook boomer dad rock (in perfectly fine way)
A little too heavy for my taste but I can understand why it’s well-regarded
Probably a 2.5. Wouldn’t seek out before other Bowie albums but I did enjoy it and would enjoy it on an artist radio shuffle. Rounding up because I like the artist
Felt like background music for a restaurant. Fine enough but probably won’t go back to
Youtube commercials between every song definitely messed with the experience here, but this was all new to me and I generally really enjoyed it. Still hoping she and Spotify make up one day
I hadn’t heard of Elliott Smith before this but I really enjoyed the album, it makes sense how he’s influenced other artists I do listen to regularly.
This is something I heard a lot as a kid and it was my first time revisiting it in full as an adult. Listened a few times this weekend and I really enjoyed eat with each go
There were a few songs I liked but generally I’m not huge on 60s pop
I never need to hear that again lol
Two only because compared to other Eminem albums I wouldn’t pick this one, but I do generally like him even if some of it is 🥴
First time hearing the whole album and not just the radio songs, really liked it. Lauryn Hill’s cover of Killing Me Softly remains the GOAT
This was fun. Very boppy. Good music for walking around an airport
Better than the other without the doowap stuff. Good plane napping music so if we’re judging by that, it’s still not my favorite.
Replacement level power rock, but fine enough. I don’t understand why bands from this era write songs about how much they need to rock
This was fun. Definitely a bit repetitive but good focus music for me and I love Annie Lennox’s voice
This reminded me of early Lennon/McCarthy and Rolling Stones rejects. They sound like about five different bands depending on the song but I enjoyed it
I wanted to like this more than I did
Fun but not really for me. All kind of blended together
Nice chill background music for working but wasn’t a huge standout for me
I don’t think I had ever actually listened to anything Zappa before this, but this was good! Not a huge fan of his vocals but I liked the instrumentals
Another album I enjoyed that very much made me wish I was listening to the Beatles
I like
This was really great, no complaints.
Meh, not for me. Not a great sign when I was happy for it to be over
This really grew on me while I was listening.
Prototype boomer dad rock. Nothing stellar but enjoyable enough
Not my favorite Beatles generally, but this album has a few songs that I really love among the broader catalog. It’s a really sonically cohesive album - something the band definitely moves away from later in their time together as they begin to branch out their own writing. It’s not the best (by far) or most interesting Beatles album for that reason, but it’s a pleasant listen and I think it perfectly captures the energy the fueled that initial Beatlemania (says the person born in 1992 but whatever). After I listened to this I went into the Across the Universe soundtrack and man that movie is such a fever dream
Meh, also felt like moody dark restaurant music. Liked it a little but really tired in me quickly. 1.5
I still remember when I got this album as a kid, and it was something I listened to a lot when I was really young. The standouts hold up but the manufactured-ness of it is pretty clear compared to more personal pop music that’s more ubiquitous these days. It’s also hard not to feel like it’s a bit of a cautionary tale now.
It’s good fight me
Boring Beatles
Opinion still a bit colored by Eminem being a hater
I wanted to like this more than I did but generally found it pleasant but boring. Wouldn’t skip but wouldn’t seek out
Sleepy video game music
Pretty fine. The best parts of this reminded me of early Arctic Monkeys. I probably won’t revisit but not a terrible listen
I liked it more than I expected to but overall probably won’t listen again
Hits perfectly with every listen (I listened like five times yesterday so)
This was a pleasant surprise considering I had zero expectations.
Meh
Filler be filling, hits be hitting
Shout out to Uncle John
Something I vaguely remember hearing when I was young, enjoyed despite my general apathy towards all this random 90s bands were getting
Jammy video game load screen music (also would fit in a bad 90s spy movie)
This is the first time I’ve listened to full Stones albums and I get it now
Kraut did not rock for me
Nice and jammy (especially on a day that feels summery) but not stand outs from Marley’s music
Pleasant but not super memorable
Good!
Was surprised to find a Queen album that was entirely new to me, but this was great (less surprised by that part)
Pleasantly jammy
Respect the impact and cultural importance but not something I’ll come back to
Fine but unremarkable
Wasn’t over fast enough
This album was mostly new to me but enjoyable because Bowie
More like Ick-arus amiright
This was kind of all over the place. Not necessarily in a bad way, but a lot of different sounds. Parts I liked but probably won’t revisit
Makes me want to be in a dingy dark pub in Ireland. Also I assumed Linda Thompson was Paul McCartney’s wife until I read the Wikipedia article after I finished it. Oops.
It’s really interesting to hear how similar all of these bands were when they first started out. 2.5 but I’ll round up
V pleasant, no complaints
Enjoyed this more than I expected. Vocals reminded me of some of the non-falsetto Bon Iver sounds (especially on his first two albums)
Fine but unremarkable
I don’t think I’ve ever listened to this album front to back before, but I knew pretty much every song save one or two. It’s solid all around without feeling bloated by filler. Not something I see myself dipping into often but definitely understand why the album had the impact it did
I think in another life I’d really like the smiths but I don’t need them
Middle school garage band noise
Boring
Not much of a casually listen to jazz by myself person but I can respeck
This isn’t my favorite Elton John work but it gets 4 stars because it’s Elton John
Fine enough
Fine enough
Generally really enjoyed but standouts were still the songs I already knew
this was so long
Yawn fine
really pleasant and simple. Hadn’t heard before but I really enjoyed this and see myself coming back to it
i feel like I’m not knowledgeable about the genre enough to really review this but I enjoyed it for not knowing much about Nas (aside from a general awareness of him)
I enjoyed this more than I expected to. Pleasant background music. 2.5
Also liked this more than the other Smiths album we had. Morrissey has an interesting voice and I don’t love it, but it’s growing on me
Great soundtrack for working for the government
I think there’s a reason only one of these is really known
Boy was this a slog. These are not The Bee Gees you’re looking for - they’re much worse
This was really great considering I had no expectations going into it. Really enjoyed their version of America
Great vocals and songwriting and I appreciated that there was almost a jazzy vibe to this at certain points. Good background music
They’re talented musicians and good at what they’re going but man are these lyrics dumb af
Really struggled to get into this one
Respect it for what it is but not really something I vibed with
I like
Fine enough
Beautiful gowns
Meh didn’t hate but probably won’t revisit
First time listening all the way through. I’m not sure how much I’ll go back to it but I did enjoy it
I think one of my biggest takeaways from this project is I enjoy The Rolling Stones more than I thought I did
I started out enjoying this but it became increasingly plodding as it went on. I didn’t mind how it all flowed together at first but when my work day ended and it wasn’t background noise, I couldn’t do it anymore. 2 only because maybe if it was just music for when I have to write I would enjoy it more
no more Tomorrowland background music I am begging you
Really enjoyed this
Not the best for listening in the office
This album feels like a bunch of musical side quests of each Beatle starting to hone their individual styles. Not my favorite Beatles album overall, but a very solid listen with a perfect ending in A Day in the Life
Hated it
Aside from the music being top notch I think Robert Plant has one of my favorite rock frontman voices
Still in the category of not really my taste but there’s some really good guitar work on this that was fun to listen to
Fine but unremarkable
highly enjoyable
I listened to this and forgot to rate. It’s cool to hear the fusion of hip hop and eastern sounds but overall not something I return to outside the 2-3 times of year I hear paper planes in public or on the radio. 2.5 rounded down because weirdo
This was great. First time listening to a full RHCP album and I really enjoyed it.
This album came out when I was in my peak time of spending weekend mornings watching VH1’s music video countdown, aka a fairly formative time in me discovering music. I vividly remember seeing The Scientist on there and loving the video, and for a song that’s pretty highly rated, I still find it a bit underrated. This music is simple but (IMO) impactful. Green Eyes is special to me as a person with green eyes and occasional main character syndrome. Love this album haters be damned!!
Good for not falling asleep on the train when I didn’t want to, not good for lyricism
Pleasant background music
ZZ Top is definitely a blindspot for me aside from La Grange and I really liked this. Will definitely explore more
Better than I expected but there’s better daft punk out there
2.5? Rounding down because doesn’t inspire me to seek more
Much more enjoyable with more focus than the live album
I’ve always enjoyed Stevie Wonder but after the two we’ve had through this so far, I really see myself seeking out and repeating these more.
V pleasant
Enjoyable but what I liked most I already knew
Meh
I really should probably give this another listen because it was fine but unremarkable but the fact that I won’t feel like it means 2
I saw Solange at a festival when she was touring for this album and don’t feel like I really got to appreciate it because the venue did not do it justice. Her voice is great and this album is understate but a really pleasant listen, will definitely revisit
I wanted to like this more than I did. Lovefool is great and I hoped the rest would hit similarly but I was really underwhelmed by most of it. 2.5
Perfectly fine background noise for working
I’ve always liked what I knew of Led Zeppelin but I’ve definitely been sleeping on them because I really loved this album. Their guitar work, particularly the acoustic, is very *them* and I think Robert Plant has one of my favorite voices in rock. Tangerine was a standout for me on this
This album reminded me of my grandpop so while I don’t see myself listening to the genre more, I do have an appreciation and affection for it. This was a really cool time capsule and I appreciate that the narration wasn’t removed. Also cool to hear a Quincy jones name drop. Good fantasy draft background music.
I genuinely really like Running Up That Hill (shout out to The Vampire Diaries soundtrack) and I ironically love a Kate Bush song not on this album (Wuthering Heights music video 5ever) but the rest of this is very meh for me. For someone who loves theatre and over the top music, the vast majority of this is too out there for me
Meh
Sheryl Crow is a much more interesting artist than any song of hers best to death by commercials for resorts and this album was pleasantly surprising
Arcade Fire is a blindspot for me, so Wake Up was the only track from this that I knew. The album lived up to its reputation for me, and I really loved the instrumentation and general sound. I found the lyrics a little hard to discern at times, but I will definitely be revisiting this/exploring more of their discography
The War Pigs cover was the only enjoyable part of this
Beastie Boys are generally fun but I wasn’t expecting the direction this went in with the instrumental tracks. Really pleasant surprise and led to an interesting post-album shuffle
I haven’t listened to this album a ton (or maybe even all the way through ever tbh). The first two singles didn’t hit for me like her first two albums did, so I didn’t give it the time it definitely deserved.
Fine but generally fairly boring
This was fine but unremarkable. 2.5 if I could
This wasn’t bad but it’s just not a subgenre of rock that I particularly enjoy
I liked this! More than I was expecting to honestly. Still not over that it is the Blur guy
This was different and fun. Would revisit
This all kind of blended together for me. As background music for work it was fine, but that product wasn’t as engaging as the titles
I was happy when this ended
Another fine, didn’t dislike, didn’t inspire me to pursue more
Parts of this I enjoyed and it was an interesting bookend to a life and career but not really for me generally
Not my genre but pleasant background music
Bob Marley was the perfect good mood chaser after Korn
Another utterly uninteresting miscellaneous rock album from the 90s
I actually didn’t wholly hate this, probably a but because my brother used to listen to this album a lot when it first came out, I have a soft spot for freak on a leash. Didn’t mind it but things went downhill when Fred Durst showed up
Agree that the other Willie album was better.
Pleasant but again, was mostly just above average background music and not something I expect will send me on much of a journey. 2.5
Tbh I didn’t hate it. Should have ended on Livin on a Prayer though
Not a ton of standouts to me (aside from realizing about halfway through one of the songs that it was called Alison and also spelled my way, so kudos), but this was pleasant. It’s interesting to hear what sounds like early ska influencers in his music
I’m biased but bangers front to back
Songs from this usually end up in my Spotify shuffling, but this was the first time I’ve listened to the album in its entirety. Not a hot take but I really love Maybe I’m Amazed
This was great would definitely come back to this.
The ambient lo-fi music just isn’t for me
REM is objectively fine and I don’t have any major qualms with them - I don’t mind listening, but I probably won’t be back aside from the songs I already knew. Soft 3, hard 2
I love this album to begin with, so always happy for a reason to listen to it. It’s an emotional journey that breaks with Supercut - a song that lyrically/musically you can really feel yourself in. Perfect Places feels a bit out of place at the end after the rawness of Liability, but I really like that song so it’s fine. Sorry Lena Dunham
Not my favorite Bowie but it was fine. 2.5 but probably wouldn’t repeat so rounded down
I don’t need to come back to this
Scorned people singing about the people that scorned them and/or the people that assisted with the scorning + some coke made some beautiful music. Justice for Silver Springs forever though, we are scorned for that being withheld from the original release
It’s sooooo long and my favorite track is Tonight, Tonight so there’s a lot to get through after that
I enjoyed this but realistically it won’t be something I repeat.
Holds up!
Just fine, nothing I need to come back to
I found this v boring compared to our other missy album. Nothing stuck out from this
Good but kind of dragged towards the end. 3.5
I probably could benefit from a second listen to really judge this, but I also don’t particularly feel like it. When listening as background noise the thing that caught my attention most was the random sex interlude, which doesn’t bode well for the rest of the album
I like some of it but there’s a disparity between what was commercially successful and the rest of the album (kids vs. the youth, imo). It does feel out of place though. There was a lot of this more electro-alternative coming up around this time, and I’m not sure MGMT is quite so formative for that genre
I don’t dislike Bob Dylan but this felt superfluous and the live element didn’t add anything for me
Fine but unremarkable
I really enjoyed this - calling BB King talented is not a hot take but I had never really listened to it before. His voice really pulls you in an this was a fun listen
I’m sorry if I could give this 0 I would
More video game music
I really enjoyed about half of this album, and the rest of it is probably a 3 for me. 3.5
I don’t think I knew any Thin Lizzy aside from the Boys Are Back in Town, but I enjoyed this more than I expected. Not sure why this specifically was on the list, but it was good. Also the Tower Theatre is in Upper Darby not Philly
This was largely unpleasant unfortunately. I’ve never listened to Tom Waits and had heard good things but I was underwhelmed
Would have been a four if this had Careless Whisper on it
I am pretty neutral on the smiths. They’re fine and I can see why people love them, but they’re solidly in the wouldn’t seek out category for me
A very member berries 4 but any iteration of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young reminds me of childhood. Holds up
I’m not huge on the doors but this was enjoyable enough. They’re not a skip for me
