Chill, easy listening…a little dull
Fine back ground listening, but not many songs caught my attention
I have always wished that I could enjoy the Pixies.
Unfortunately, I think I’m just too uptight.
There is the well known banger on this album: Where is my mind, which of course I love, but other then that I find the rest of the songs all a bit too shouty, piercing and fast.
This is my first ever proper PJ Harvey listen.
This album gave me a some good feelings.
It has swagger with some story telling.
Although nothing really caught me enough to make me want to listen again
1 star rubbish/full
3 stars alright good back ground
5 stars it really caught me, a great experience
good stuff, easy listening, satisfying, catchy
1 star: dull rubbish
3 stars: alright, good as back ground, wouldn’t save it to my playlist
5 stars: it really caught me, a great experience, I will listen to again and again
1 star: dull rubbish
3 stars: alright, good as back ground, wouldn’t save it to my playlist
5 stars: it really caught me, a great experience, I will listen to again and again
OMG! What an experience! I have always avoided EW&F (due to a preconceived notion that I don’t like funk), but This album has got some wonderful messages of self empowerment and love. Very special. While I might not save any of the tracks in my play list, I’m giving it a 5 for the positive vibes, All about Love actually gave me tears
Not my thing, to much funk and no lyrics, but the ability of the musicians is undeniable
Graceland has always been one of my favourite albums
An alright listen, although didn’t really catch me
I tried, just could not get into it…
Painful. I tried. I just couldn’t.
This album is awesome, it’s
atmospheric, instrumental, with beautiful singing and catchy lyrics.
But all the songs are a very similar: everything and nothing stood out
So it turns out I’m an LL Cool J fan. Great music to commute to, if I was someone who listened to albums rather than just songs (off my own steam) I would definitely listen again. Smooth rapping, great beats
Reminds me of Joni’s Mitchell, not a terrible album, although I don’t think I’d listen again
It was a good listen, of course, although nothing really caught me. I probably wouldn’t put on again..
I really enjoyed this album, maybe the electric stuff got a little too loud but when they go folksy, yum, I liked it so much I easily listened twice
this is very good album.
I was initially put off from having heard the radio over playing some of the songs (Fast Car, revolution, lines,,) but actually every track is a banger, all very easy to listen to. Tracy deserves a 5
I’m a Beatles fan although I don’t think their original tracks on this album are the best while the covers are all great
I’m not a fan, not bad playing or singing, some nice scores, but nothing to get your teeth into.
It’s more of a poetry album, which is not what I’m looking for.
Really good background music to sew to! Yet nothing memorable for me
I really enjoyed this album all the way through. My favourite from the list so far, so much so i listened thrice!
I have always found Nick Drake easy to listen to…although the music doesn’t suit all moods, it is lovely
4.5
If I liked this kind of music, it would probably be a decent version of it, listening was fairly easy, but it really is just not my thing
This was OK, but didn’t quite match the high hopes I had after reading the description on Spotify. It was a bit flat, and in some parts a bit cheesy, but there was some nice instrumental parts
3
It’s a good album, Amy was awesome, easy to listen to.
not a 5 for me but a 4.5
It has taken me a couple of listens to be able to get through Marquee Moon.
Nearly all of the songs had very appealing musical scores (if that is the right phrasing) although nothing really caught me.
I think if i were to listen to this album regularly, it might grow on me…otherwise I just kept hearing the Talking Heads! I’m going to give them a 4 because they are better than a 3
I had already heard a few of the songs on Nilsson Schmilsson and had always liked them, but would never have put them as the same artist (ex. Gotta get up/coconut)
I didn’t love every song, but I enjoyed it as a whole
I preferred this much more than Surfer Rose, it was an easy, good quality album
Never heard of The xx, but wow, I enjoyed this album so much…from the start, so atmospheric and easy to listen to…
This album was alright, nothing offensive, but nothing to really grip onto
A great album, but I’m going to be picky and give it a 4 because even though this is definitely my favourite era of jazz, I do prefer it with lyrics, it just wasn’t quite Louis Armstrong enough
This was good, atmospheric, didn’t love every song but did pick a few favourites:wild at heart, CTOTCC and Breaking up slowly.
Lust for life and Passenger are amazing songs.
The rest of the album was alright, but not memorable, I have no urge to repeat again
3
It took me ages to listen to Tubular Bells, I kept getting put off by the Exorcist opening score..little did I know what a diverse and lovely range of music this album had. Very good.
Some lovely tracks and some absolutely awful tracks,
some to dance with and some to skip
Just jazz. it took me a while to get round to this album… the musicians have great talent, its just not my taste, to much meandering. I wouldn’t listen again
I really enjoyed this album, after never listening to the Beastie Boys before, I really like the instrumental parts, and just the lovely smooth chaotic mix. Although no tunes have stuck out to me, I don’t think that’s what music like this is for, it’s a package. I
I enjoyed that, it got me out of a mood. I got a bit worried at the first song, that this album would be difficult, but the 2nd song was good, and from then on it was easy sailing, with a decent groove on the last tune… nothing that memorable but my morning commute went peacefully
This album is a jazz rap fusion, It took me a while to get into, I can respect the work as a complete piece of poetry, but found it quite irritating..
I enjoyed that, didn’t think I would.
I probably wont listen again (unless I suddenly become 20years younger and need to edit a skate stunt video)
It’s very good and bouncy American punk ska!
It took me a couple of weeks to finish this album. Good music to work to, maybe a bit long..it’s ok…not sure what to say…it’s a 3.5 for me, but I’ll go 4 ‘cos they know how to work their instruments
Great background: nothing memorable, nothing disturbed
I would consider Since I Left You to be a very good after party wind down album, (not my scene but if it was this is what I’d put on)
This was mega chill, I would never have chosen it, I cannot remember any of the songs but it was an easy listen 4/10
This album was alright, fairly easy to listen to, some good bits, but not really memorable, in some parts I found the singing a little bit difficult
easy listening, on the edge of surreal folk music.
Nothing caught me straight away, but with every song flick back (while I write this review) I grow fonder with a quick familiarity
I would have liked some drugs for this album, it was chill and atmospheric . Lots of vibes, definitely would have been nice to listen to from a bean bag with a lava lamp rather then on the central line
I’d never heard anything from the band before but I did loose interest a bit during the middle and can’t really remember anything from it
F it, this is a 5, clearly brilliant music.
Wish I could go out dancing in the late 50’s to a Little Richard Concert, I bet it would be such a good night…
My reservations in giving a straight 5, is that as an album all the tracks are quite similar, with no room to chill out.
Does go well as a background for dough kneading (Especially rip it up)
I listened to the whole thing and I thought it was awesome.
I was dubious about the length, but found it very easy, and weirdly familiar, basically a fusion of well known songs from the last 80 years through the genres of folk, pop, electro etc…I heard Jonny Cash, Pulp Fiction, Paul Simon, Bonzo Dog Doo Dar Band, Belle and Sebastian, Pet Shop Boys,…
So much more, I can’t even place.
A great piece of work, although the comedy did make me feel a bit trolled when ever I started feeling sentimental or enjoy the tunes
Anyone one listening to Frank can appreciate the talent of Amy, although the song subjects are very much those of a teenager, and so weren’t as interesting as they might have been at an earlier time in my life.
My favourites were: Cherry, Amy and f me pumps…they were great.
Nice, very 60’s…nothing stood out that much, I could listen again for sure…
Not my kind of music, but I can appreciate that it’s a good version of whatever that is
The big 2 on here(wish and shine on) are some of the best songs ever, the rest are not that interesting
Where did our love go and Tained Love are excellent excellent songs, the rest (disappointingly) was rather meh
2/5
That was alright, didn’t concentrate very well, but no complaints
This album was very difficult for the first 3 songs when it picked up and became tolerable.
i respect Bowie as an icon, but in regards to his music, apart from the one song : sound and vision (which is one of the most wonderful songs ever-not on this album) I have rarely enjoyed any of his music (oh of course don’t forget Starman!)
That was wonderful, such goood music! Makes me nostalgic for a scene I am to young to have ever been part of.
I would never have looked for or found this on my own (I’m more Buddy Holly or Prince Buster, and generally I need lyrics)
But give me a glow stick I want to go raving !
I thought the first part of this album was very good, the 2nd half (after Monster which is an excellent tune) I didn’t vibe with so much.
Ive always enjoyed The Kinks, but have only ever had greatest hits CDs.
I took this to be a concept album about the damage of war, and the abuse of the poor by those in authority.
The songs were balanced well, and the whole thing was fairly easy to listen to, although I think someone from an older generation would have more references to take more in-depth meanings behind the lyrics (then I).
A lovely bit of TripHop on a sunny Sunday morning
Love this album, have done for years!
Bob Dylan’s Greatest Hits was one of my favourite CD’s as a teenager.
I loved the older stuff, but thought the quality declined later.
So seeing the date, I was dubious when I put this on to play.
But this was good, I really enjoyed it, there was groove and blues. I will definitely listen again
This album was fine, I listened once while getting ready in the morning, nothing really stuck out, nothing disappointed… it was just like the radio, fine…
This was alright, I got a few songs in, but really I know I have no ambition to listen to anymore…they are obviously very good at what they do, but I don’t think I will find the space and time where I can really listen to this album
This was a good album, like an orchestral Pink Floyd.
Some parts were maybe a bit tough to listen to (akin to meandering jazz riffs, but with electric) King Crimson are definitely musicians, although are some lovey singing bit.
This is an epic album, I don’t adore every song but it’s a great trippy listen all the way through. Im divided between 4 and 5 so I’ll go with the consensus and hit 5
Fine 90’s movie background montage music
I was charmed by this. I enjoyed the lead singers voice. I could clearly hear the Velvet Underground Sound, it had groove and nostalgia, im eager to hear their other stuff. I am giving it a 5, because it’s worth more to me than a 4
As difficult to listen to punk albums go, this was alright
My favourite kind of Janis. This was a good listen,
Carousels, psychedelics and a church organ.
I really enjoyed this album.
A lot of the other reviews say the best songs are the first and last. I disagree, I preferred all the ones in the middle; gotta love a bit of twangy 60s blues cover-age !
This album doesn’t do it for me, although based on the overall sound I would be open to trying another one at some point
After reading the other reviews I was prepared for a difficult. But actually, I enjoyed this. I like the song writing, and I like Ryan’s voice and guitar playing
Medieval chic. Nico’s had a bad rap in these reviews, but I quite like it. Maybe a bit moany, but I like the folky undertones
It’s a 3.5, but I’m going benefit of the doubt with a 4
Not my thing, I’m a bit disappointed because I love their greatest hits collections,.. but that’s not The Cure’s problem
This is alright. Not offensive.
Although (apart from the classics over played on the radio) nothing really stands out…
This is some excellent South American, 60’s, psychedelic music!
A really cool album diverse and complete, I didn’t always vibe with every song, but when they were good, they were GOOD.
The language barrier didn’t matter as the instrumental and atmosphere were very strong. A clear 5
I liked this, better the a Bowie album (so far!)
There is lots to it: nice instrumentals, decent lyrics, some good beats to dance to. A nicely complete album. I’m only giving it a 4 because non of the songs quite stuck out enough for me to save to a play list
This was like listening to somebody sing out pages from their diary with ambient almost-dance computer music.
I was a bit disappointed as F‘Twigs has brought out a couple of songs on other albums that I like. But nothing caught me here.
Not my thing. Had some good movie montage music, other than that not my thing
Fricken Awsome! I never knew. I love the Beastie Boys!!
The Stone Roses have a very distinctive sound. This album was alright, definitely listenable with some good tracks, but just didn’t quite cut it for me. It’s a 3.5 from mes
Really not my thing, but not so bad for metal (?!) I liked the carousel sounds, and I did save the song Charlotte as I thought that was very good
This is alright. I didn’t think it was memorable until I listened the 2nd time, it was easy to vibe with, some lyrics are a bit cheesy-cringe but I like the harmonica. Nothing stood out to save, and I probably wouldn’t listen again
Because of Origin of Symmetry, I thought I wouldn’t like Muse, but actually this album was alright
Mostly schlock, not Britney’s fault, there was some vibe here and there, but overall it was a difficult listen
I’ve known every word of Abbey Road for years anyway, but thought I should listen again, still brilliant, thank you to the Beatles
Had it as background, and tried a bit in headphones towards the end.
Really not memorable at all, but also tolerable with a couple of groovy riffs here and there
I respect the talent, but that was hard work
That was so good! I didn’t love every song, but the ones I did were so so groovy! Yea!
Had it on as background, I always love that 60’s sound, but this sounded drunk. Nothing I’d probably repeat (or recommend)
I thought it was good, obviously obscene, but there was definitely groove
Can’t ever fault Stevie. I didn’t love it all the way through, but the vibe was definitely top top
Not to my taste, just sounded like a load of noise, with a bit of cool
Loved it, this 1001 album thing has turned me into a hip hop lover!
The right album for concentrating on a creative project
This is good, reminded me of walking through a festival…some lovely instruments used, some dub vibes. Didn’t pick out any songs in particular, but really enjoyed listening while doing a creative project
Great artist, great voice, loved the pace
I got mixed up, this is my rating for More songs about buildings (and vice versa)
Once again; talking heads have definitely got something, there lots of times I enjoy, but something just doesn’t quite cut it for me
I was indifferent until reading the blurb, and then I thought oh cool
This was made in a home studio in the 70’s.
it’s got something,although I don’t think I’ll ever listen again
Hhmm, while listening my imagination thought this was a celebration of England, until I read the lyrics.
They are poetic, but the topic seems quite odd. It’s about war; caused by England? in England? In another comment someone said she did a lot of research for this album…….
Basically
I think I’m too ignorant to really get this.
I did enjoy the English folk like qualities of some of the tracks though
That was alright, not that memorable though
Nice bit of ska, would be excellent live
Never really been into the Talking Heads, although there was some groove to this album I would bother again
Wild, satirical and silly, a full 60’s music experience. I liked go cry on somebody else’s shoulder and Trouble Every day.
A great listen, but a one off!
Love gets sweeter is a wonder track, After All is good, and Maverick a Strike is alright, otherwise I thought it was a bit flat
That was a great album, all the classics, good quality for being live
Loved it all the way through
Like a prayer is very good, cherish was alright. Otherwise very little else stood out to me
Great musicians, but too much instrumental for easy listening…otherwise good songs, but would probably never listen again
Not as good as their greatest hits album
Surprising I listened all the way through, it was easy enough background,.. although tuning in it really was not my thing. The singer did my head in, the covers were off beat.
That was good, not massively memorable but easy enough to listen to
I normally like a bit of country but this was a bit grateing. Covers didn’t even do it for me. Emmylou’s voice and the instrumentals were nice…but this just did not hit the mark for me 2.5
This was a good album, a bit dreamy, a bit upbeat a bit psychedelic…I’m only giving it a 4 as nothing quite caught me enough to save, and I can’t remember any of the tracks
Smooth grooves, but unnecessarily crude. Snoop was a teenager when this was made, and it shows. Otherwise, great talent
3
This was a good album but nothing memorable hence the 4
Really good!
Peaceful, intelligent, informative, cool and groovy.
Well done Jungle Brothers, I get why this is a Must Listen
Shout out to Ed Blaney! (From L at Bez’s night Haci-Hendre north Wales 2011/12)
This is my first Fall album, I enjoyed it. Favourite track League Moon Monkey Mix. Would be a great band to see live.
After Karma Police, I was into it
That was hard, her voice did my head in. Show tube shrill
That was alright, all the songs sounded very similar though!
Not my usual genre, but bloody brilliant!
That was so good, all the way through, I love Poly’s voice, very punk and yet lyrics easy to understand. Lots of energy! Love it
Easy listening, nothing memorable
Has some lovely classic tracks. A great sunny day album
Not as bad as I had anticipated, I was in the right mood for the first couple of songs and then had to do a bit of skipping here and there.. but otherwise ok
The The definitely have something. I liked it
That was just fine, but not memorable
I like a bit of hip hop so I was excited for this, but just found it a bit difficult to listen to
This was interesting. From the get go I enjoyed it, although due to quality and recording it was difficult to take in and remember.
I saw on Wikipedia that this recording was only meant to be a demo, but was just released as is.
In a way I think this is a shame, I would have liked to have heard the album cleaned up, Although I appreciate this outcome has quite a personal feel, and connects the listener to what was going on with Skip at the time.
That was alright I liked hungry like the wolf and the chauffeur the rest was background
Beautiful! Reminds me some of the white album (with its mixes of electric, and acoustic).
This is Paul for the first time exploring his craft alone, one review compared this to a sketch book, and I agree but I don’t think it’s a bad thing.
This is good music. Some songs went on a bit long, but otherwise Kilimanjaro was catchy, energetic, interesting and dramatic
This was very hard work. Only saved marginally by Purple Avenue
That was long but good
There was so much I couldn’t really take it in, but every song had groove and audible lyrics, an easy contribution to my full daily commute (to and from work) all the way up could hear Sid Barret, and Sid Barrett and other punk
Wonderful!
Long, but satisfying, I kept coming back to it throughout the day.
The song writing and the singer are a match made in heaven
Not my thing but not too terrible
Normally my favourite genre, this didn’t quite do it for me like I hoped it would. I did get to learn about Marcus Garvey though…
My first Black Sabbath album! Loved it!
Nothing really stood out, but it was easy enough otherwise
Really good!
Not my favourite kind of music, but still a vibe
Mostly difficult part from Heroes and Moss Garden…I wouldn’t listen again
I listened to this album when I was a teenager, it was nice to revisit as an adult. I appreciated both the music and the poetry more this time around, afterglow’ is a great track, although there are other albums of theirs with better songs
This is good as a whole l, I didn’t manage to pick any favourite tracks but there was lots of good moments
I liked it
Starfish and Coffee is my favourite.
I enjoyed myself all the way through, although there was quite a bit of 80’s movie montage music
Music, beats, her voice, production all 10 out of 10, but the lyrics were not interesting, with a lot of tired and well and truly tried themes
That was so good, cool beats all the way through!
No complaints, a wonderful 60’s band, not quite a 5, but a close 4.5
I love Strange Brew and Sunshine of your love (already favourite songs) but nothing else stands out quite so much
For an album I will never listen to again, I didn’t mind it too much, it was punk, but not harsh punk, easy enough background
Just had it as background, nothing caught me to much, but it was alright
Just had it as background while I read up about Elliot Smith (while on the train), poor guy, he obviously had and has a lot of fans…
The music was easy enough to listen to, but, like in the first review on this page, needs the right moment
Definitely eclectic but I couldn’t quite find anything I really liked
The slow ones were a bit cheesy for me, and the quick ones were great to walk with. It’s sounds like the musicians had a lot of fun doing their thing, I can imagine them being really in the zone. I was surprised at how familiar ‘I want your love’ and ‘freak out’ were.
I’m going for
3/5 only because it’s not my thing, not because it isn’t well produced cohesive music
This was a nice album, I love that 60’s sound. None of the songs really stood out that much for me, apart from Groovin
