Here Come The Warm Jets
Brian EnoYou can hear how he had his hand in so many other bands’ work in this album. It’s just those sounds but…more.
You can hear how he had his hand in so many other bands’ work in this album. It’s just those sounds but…more.
Weird, love it
Awesome sentimental bops
Love this album as much as the first time I heard it.
This is much more musical than most punk albums. Awesome album!
Musically it’s not my thing. Lyrically some of the songs are beautiful. Overall it feels too plain in some areas and way too much in others. 14th Street and Beautiful Child were the highlights for me. I give those a 4.
Reminded me of Craig David but not nearly as good
Ahh the return of the hidden tracks! This sounded like my childhood and reminds me of car rides with my dad. Cannot believe it’s been 30 years since it was released.
No misses on this album. Loved 15 Step, Jigsaw Falling Into Place, and Videotape
Liked the songs but nothing stood out to me. Also…twice as many bonus tracks as “real” ones feels a bit much.
Easy listen. Would have been bigger if it was released earlier. The Wikipedia entry mentions Illmatic, Enter the Wu Tang, and Ready to Die which definitely dominated 93-94, but I think this more occupies the same place as Midnight Marauders which is the better album imo.
Yeah, this was a fun one. Always loved Eddie Van Halen’s guitar style and David Lee Roth’s vocals.
Perfect for driving with the top down, super early in the morning, after a long night out. This Must Be the Place I Waited to Leave and How Can You Expect to be Taken Seriously were highlights
Do I detect a hint of surf rock? Dramatic, orchestral….slightly mod and hippiesh at times. This album crammed so many sub genre sounds into its songs.
Yup…that’s metal.
All bops no filler
More metal….not my favorite genre but it was good.
If this is on here and no My Bloody Valentine albums are, I’ll be very disappointed. This was good but not great.
Love this album, another one that reminds me of car rides with my dad. Immigrant Song is a strong opener. Leaving room in the rating in case there are other Zeppelin albums on the list. Rating is a 3/5 among other Led Zeppelin albums. A solid 5 against other albums that we have already heard.
1 extra star for nostalgia. Makes me think of HS and college. The Stars of Track and Field, Get Me Away From Here I’m Dying, and If You’re Feeling Sinister were highlights.
Great voice and range but skipped a lot of them. The songs I liked the most were covered better by others imo. eg The Shirelles cover of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow is much stronger and neither hold a candle to Carol King’s
Not usually a fan of live albums but this was enjoyable
This was a fun listen. Pretty Green was a great opener
It’s Bowie so I’ll like it, but compared to other Bowie albums it’s not as good.
Blue and The Last Time I Saw Richard get me every time
Liked some but was meh on others
Not for me
You can hear how he had his hand in so many other bands’ work in this album. It’s just those sounds but…more.
Weird, love it
This was rough
Groovy. I had no idea who this was until Get it On. Really enjoyed the rest of his stuff
A little meandering at times but enjoyable
Not something I would normally pick up, but it’s a good example of style and a pretty good listen.
Now that’s a strong opening…
Awesome sentimental bops
Listened while waiting for a flight in DC. Too tired and sober for this I think.
Gimme Shelter is a solid song but the rest range from ok to meh.
Mid
4.5 stars Embarrassingly, I think I have only heard other people cover Cohen's songs so I was not prepared for the gravel in his voice. After a few songs it got to be a bit much for me but the lyrics and instrumentation were so beautiful.
It's the Buzzcocks, you cannot go wrong!
What an odd album. This was an amazing journey. I hit play without looking at the track list and kept getting lovely surprises along the way. Forget the originals (which are fantastic) but a cover of Born to Run? San Jose? I love The Boss and Burt Bacharach!
Not my thing. Strong opener (there's probably a reason it was populare and the rest are not) but then it just got repetitive.
An easy listen but nothing unique or ground breaking sticks out to me.
Pretty for a single song but gets repetitive
<3 Pavement
This album definitely shows The Beatles transitional phase. The first two songs alone show their early more pop sound and the sound that would define their later work. Good mix, rating it against other Beatles albums.
Perfect and Forgiven still gut me all these later.
Was it intersting? Yes. Will I listen to it again? No.
It's like a folksy David Bowie!
Nostalgia!
There’s the good Doors songs that become hits and then there’s the rambling blues stuff. This had too much of the latter
Nifty but not my thing
Ah yes, the album of commercial and movie songs!
No skips
Absolutely not. Was every singer in this genre so whiny?
Haven’t listened to this in years. Lyrically and musically still makes me feel nostalgic and like I’m in a 90s teen movie
Loved this. Even more impressive when you think about it being done in the 70s
Everything I hate about live albums
Heart of Gold, Old Man, Alabama, and Words are fantastic. The rest I feel very meh about overall.
Ok background music at first but it got weird.
Her voice and work is so timeless.
This album was so beautiful. Glad to see more of them on this list!
Higher score if this was two separate albums. I remember loving this album as a kid but on relisten it feels super disjointed. Interlude: Let's Dance to Someday Is Tonight feels like one album. The rest feel like another.
Forgot how much I loved the songs on here that weren’t singles
I hate Christmas albums
Minus a star for Speed Demon through Another Part of Me. Those are terrible to meh at best. The rest are generally amazing.
Ain't No Other Man aside, I drastically preferred Disc 2, it feels much more "back to basics" than the first disc. Disc 1: 2 Disc 5: 4
No skips.
Second Live album on here that I actually enjoyed.
I had no idea how much I enjoyed Rod Stewart.
Whoo this album still holds up from the first time I heard it. Highlights for me are still Black Man and Sir Duke but on this side of parenthood the once saccharine Isn’t She Lovely now makes me bawl my eyes out.
Listened to both UK and US versions, averages out to a 4. Odd differences between the ablums. Only ~1/2 of each album has songs in common and I think both could use Paint it Black and Mother's Little Helper.
I feel like I'm never cool enough to "get" bands like this. Not my thing.
Makes me feel kind of eurotrashy...I like it
This was fun to have on in the background
This was really lovely and I never would have heard it if it was not for this project.
Overall interesting but not my thing
Sounds like college
This was beautiful and funky!
All those microphones made for a really great live recording. Love her voice but the music got repetitive for me.
Ok background music. Not great but not terrible.
Minus one start for not being Midnight Marauders, that's its only fault.
What a weird and awesome mishmash of sounds! I had only heard Me and Julie Down by the Schoolyard from this album previously but I dig all of this!
First real discovery thanks to this list.
Sounds like a spring day laying in a meadow...
Minus one star because Talkie Walkie is the superior Air album
Not my thing
Ugh. Fuck Morrissey but also Irish Blood, English Heart is so good. So you get an extra star.
We don't fuck with paedos/assaulters, no matter how ground breaking.
Sounds like cocaine?
Ugh, put my Achtung Baby rating with War. So this rating is for War...
One is always a highlight for this album but the rest is average.
Young Americans and Fame are highlights for me, but the rest is kind of meh to average.
This made me laugh? So I think I was listening correctly. This is absurd.
Good example of style, a little too calm for my country tastes but pleasant.
Pretty but nothing knocked me over
Still amazing after all these years.
Noping the fuck out of this one. It's like Firestarter on streoids for a whole album
I do love me a concept album!
Live albums are generally meh and I cannot stand Bob Dylan's voice. Love his lyrics so this pains me.
This is so close to being a decent album but it's lacking something that I cannot put my finger on.
Never had listened to this whole album before. Loved it.
Doesn't get much better than this. Going to California is probably the biggest highlight in this album followed by how Black Dog and Rock and Roll flow into each other and then Stairway to Heaven.
Preferred London Calling but still very good
This album is a chameleon and honestly....it's good? I enjoyed it? But I think it's trying to be all the things and listens more like a love letter to the 90s more than anything else. The soaring guitars in some of the songs sound so British and reminiscent of Wonderwall. Homesick sounds like it could be in Smashing Pumpkin's Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Mary Jane sounds like it could be on any random 90s alt rock album. Factory is super bubbly and bouncy and feels like their ode to the ska movement that become popular during that time. And all the screaming parts sound like a Nirvana sound attempt. I don't hate this but it also does not feel original enough to be on the 1001 list.
