Popular Reviews

Penthouse And Pavement by Heaven 17

This album is fucking great, y'all are crazy. I mean just very good danceable synthy business, fun (and meaningful) lyrics, even got some kraftwerk-y industrial stuff to it? To me it really stays just about as good the entire time, and by good I mean great. Come and join the fun on the way to heaven!

Eliminator by ZZ Top

Unfortunately this just blends together to create one of the most 3-star albums ever. They aren't bad to listen to, but for whatever reason this type of rock just blends together soooo easily for me.

Pink Flag by Wire

It was pretty fine. I do at least appreciate it's short! Some things got my attention but a lot of it blurred together.

Timeless by Goldie

God damn. When I saw this long-ass album runtime I was already dreading it, but it won me over like instantly. It is some really good groovin drum n bass in here. My only real issue with it is that I wouldn't listen to it or its tracks very much on account of their length, but damn. It's real good otherwise.

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk

These tracks are pretty chill for what I was expecting, however it's pretty good! And I mean, the predecessor of a lot of cool stuff.

The Wildest! by Louis Prima
Apr 18 2025

Really fun album. I've always liked some jazz/blues/swing(?) like a lot of this and it's good at it

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Apr 19 2025

Nice stuff! I enjoyed it pretty well although nothing super stood out to me

Debut by Björk
Apr 20 2025

Mostly not for me, but I liked some of the house electronic stuff!

Aja by Steely Dan
Apr 21 2025

Good sounding album overall, though not many tracks specifically stuck out!

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
Apr 22 2025

I like her voice and music, this is just another 'not much stands out' good album. Doesn't help it's 3 hours

Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk
Apr 23 2025

Another solid album where nothing's really standing out to me... though not exactly my flavor of jazz either.

Loveless by My Bloody Valentine
Apr 24 2025

Again, pretty solid, just nothing stands out to me.

Apr 25 2025

Okay after listening to my friends talk about this album I get it, but it reeeeeeally isn't for me. Except for candyman (and even indian tobacco), you can stay.

Superunknown by Soundgarden
Apr 26 2025

Was hoping I'd like it a little more, but it's got some good stuff.

Apr 27 2025

Okay I actually enjoyed that a good bit more than I expected. Definitely some stuff to go back and relisten to.

Fever Ray by Fever Ray
Apr 28 2025

I may have already been primed to like this by If I Had A Heart, but I don't know, I enjoyed the sound of it!

Apr 29 2025

Good album! You can really hear how it influenced like everything after it, and it's still a nice listen.

Abraxas by Santana
Apr 30 2025

Just to me one of those albums that's pretty solid sound-wise but only maybe 1-2 songs stand out

Dog Man Star by Suede
May 02 2025

I liked a couple songs, but really just ok to me!

New York Dolls by New York Dolls
May 04 2025

Ehhhh. I get it, and it's okay, but nothing stands out.

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
May 05 2025

Instrumental albums like this tend to be less my thing, but he's pretty bombastic!

My Generation by The Who
May 06 2025

Not as good as their later stuff, but it's pretty perfectly okay.

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
May 07 2025

Has some standouts, but mostly just okay.

Club Classics Vol. One by Soul II Soul
May 08 2025

Enjoyed this a lot! But I always like me some club classics.

May 09 2025

Not a terrible listen, but one of those where nothing really stands out to me.

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
May 10 2025

Not really a fan, buuuut there was a couple of good ones at the end.

Oar by Alexander 'Skip' Spence
May 11 2025

Sorry Grey/Afro, but you're not good enough to carry this album!

The Wall by Pink Floyd
May 12 2025

The myth, the legend! I'd heard of this album so many times prior, and as an album it really lived up to that expectation honestly. That saaaaid... there is not (at least, on initial listen) a lot of songs I would listen to outside of the album's context, which is pretty much the only reason it's not a 5. I don't listen to whole albums too often, so I do like to have that ability! Apologies to the vision, but it was really good to be fair.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
May 13 2025

I'm glad the rolling stones remembered they could play good music! Unfortunately this falls right in line with a lot of other samey-sounding okay rock (or adjacent) albums.

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
May 14 2025

It's REALLY good. Not quite that 5, but an incredibly strong 4. I like just about every song here.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly
May 15 2025

Noooot really a fan. Not a hater, but I only sorta maybe like like one song on here. The sound is okay, just nothing sticking out as usual

Fever To Tell by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
May 16 2025

I've always some singles by them, so nice to hear their debut album! Fun stuff here, if rawer than their later stuff

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
May 17 2025

Rating it a 1 because I enjoyed 1 song

Ramones by Ramones
May 18 2025

Fun album if indistinct!

May 19 2025

Okay on a relisten I think this album is prettty coooool. They have a sort of energy to them that puts them above other 3-star okay-sounding rock bands I've heard so far.

Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
May 20 2025

I liked the sound of this quite a lot! Has to be one of the best albums from the decade I've heard so far at least. It unfortunately fits into that 4-star slot just because I'm not sure how much I'd listen to it on a regular basis, kinda like The Wall.

Crocodiles by Echo And The Bunnymen
May 21 2025

Ahhh I think I like their sound, but I'm struggling to pick out something I'd actually wanna relisten to on a regular basis!

Talking Timbuktu by Ali Farka Touré
May 22 2025

It's okay, just not really my style unfortunately! Nothing really stuck with me from it.

The Sun Rises In The East by Jeru The Damaja
May 23 2025

Really cool album, a lot closer to some more modern stuff I like in its particular style. Admittedly I don't have a lot of context for hip-hop from this time period, but it's good to me

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
May 24 2025

Ehhhhhn sorry Mr. Davis, but this just isn't leaving that much of an impression on me! A lot of solid-sounding stuff, but it just blends together so, so much.

Solid Air by John Martyn
May 25 2025

Pretty uneven album to me. Like, it doesn't blend together like a lot of 3 stars, but it's reeeally up and down on what appeals to me. Still, some good stuff.

May 26 2025

I like the vibe, but not really anything I'd relisten to in particular much.

May 27 2025

It falls JUST short of a 5, though it could easily be one if the later songs start to stick with me. This album is such an ancestor of so much modern music I like, or even just a lot of internet content I like.

Ray Of Light by Madonna
May 28 2025

Some surprisingly good synth/electronica. Madonna, I was unfamiliar with your game

The Trinity Session by Cowboy Junkies
May 29 2025

Wasn't as bad as it could be! That said, I still didn't like it very much. Just not my style, though I did like when it dipped into being more bluesy.

Third/Sister Lovers by Big Star
May 30 2025

Kind of a chunky album and the slower songs just reeeally don't do it for me. There's some good stuff though, just not quite as even of a mix as I'd like.

Disintegration by The Cure
May 31 2025

I sort of figured I'd like them but I didn't it expect it to be this good hahaha. Just managing to produce several minute long bangers consistently

Meat Puppets II by Meat Puppets
Jun 01 2025

This is okay. It has some peaks and a generally good sound, but it really blends together rather indistinctly.

The Who Sell Out by The Who
Jun 02 2025

I like the concept of this but none of the songs really stand out I think. I think in general I enjoyed the sound more than most of my generation, though

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jun 03 2025

Extremely solid album. Really great stuff here, and a really nice album experience. Really the only thing holding it back is I probably wouldn't listen to a lot of it outside of the album itself.

Blood And Chocolate by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jun 04 2025

Enjoyable sound, nothing really stands out enough to relisten to though.

Tical by Method Man
Jun 05 2025

Pretty perfectly okay. Enjoyed the beat a lot of the time, but only a couple things standing out to me

Calenture by The Triffids
Jun 06 2025

Say it with me again y'all: I like the sound, but not much sticks out

The Next Day by David Bowie
Jun 07 2025

I realize that Bowie almost certainly has better things, but still he just has an immediately great sound. This may be first album bias, but hey. It's pretty good

Low by David Bowie
Jun 08 2025

This one just isn't for me I think. I mean the switch is cool and respectable, and I like some songs on it, but the overall sounds (either of them) just aren't enough my style.

Yank Crime by Drive Like Jehu
Jun 09 2025

I would like to like this more, the sound is pretty close to there... but it just does not really stand out to me. It all kinda blends together.

Garbage by Garbage
Jun 10 2025

This really could nearly be a 5-star album. The only thing holding it back is it starts to sorta blur together in the back half, but there is some gooood shit in here.

Peter Gabriel by Peter Gabriel
Jun 12 2025

I enjoy just how weird this is, and I enjoy some of the songs, but in general there isn't really a lot here I'd relisten to often.

Smile by Brian Wilson
Jun 13 2025

I liked it a surprising bit starting out, buuut it sorta just floats around after that. Not bad though! Just maybe too long and not reeeeally for me.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jun 14 2025

Okay, sorry, but this just washes over me. Nothing really sticks, good sounds though.

It's A Shame About Ray by The Lemonheads
Jun 15 2025

Wow would you believe it, another album where nothing sticks out but it's not too bad? Crazy

Bitte Orca by Dirty Projectors
Jun 16 2025

This really does nothing for me, and it's not even good enough to get a 3. Still not like... aggravating or anything, just not really anything. Almost interesting in a couple parts.

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean
Jun 17 2025

The vibes of this are absolutely great. Really solid stuff, not a ton I'd maybe listen to regularly, but just solid.

Copper Blue by Sugar
Jun 18 2025

It feels SURPRISINGLY close to being a 4. Something about the sound puts it over so many samey-sounding albums... even though it does ultimately end up samey.

Lam Toro by Baaba Maal
Jun 19 2025

It just didn't really stick with me, but not a bad album either!

On The Beach by Neil Young
Jun 20 2025

Sorry, this just isn't doing it for me. I can tell it's not that bad or anything, just... really not my cup of tea.

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Jun 21 2025

These tracks are pretty chill for what I was expecting, however it's pretty good! And I mean, the predecessor of a lot of cool stuff.

Superfuzz Bigmuff by Mudhoney
Jun 22 2025

Their sound definitely could be a 4, but in practice I only particularly liked one song.

Jun 23 2025

It's just noooot quite there for me like some past hip-hop albums were. Nice enough sounding stuff, though (minus one song's verse)

Van Halen by Van Halen
Jun 24 2025

I do like the vibes overall, but it's hard to say any one song stuck with me that well... Except I'm the One, which is deeply amusing to me

Jun 25 2025

Really cool vibes and album! Always enjoy artists playing around like this. Reminded me of Illinois a bit too.

Jun 26 2025

Okay I REALLY want to like this. It feels weirdly close. However it's maybe just too uneven? Long? I'm having trouble getting any song to stick with me right now, but it's close.

More Specials by The Specials
Jun 27 2025

Really really fun album. I'm maybe predisposed for this genre due to my later likes, but I definitely enjoyed myself here!

Jun 28 2025

Okay, you know, I'm not usually big on these jazz albums, and I wouldn't listen to this very casually I think, but this is a really fucking solid jazz album. Cool stuff here, very lively, nice motifs, just good stuff.

Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk
Jun 29 2025

It's soooo goooood! Every song on this is great. It is also very cohesive as an album! The vibes are great, I would be willing to listen to a lot of this on its own, just good stuff.

Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden
Jun 30 2025

First time listening to them (consciously anyway), pretty cool stuff! They were fucking up that guitar the whole time, it was great. Not quite a 5 just because I only really liked about half, but still good stuff!

Endtroducing..... by DJ Shadow
Jul 01 2025

God this is such a good album. It is unfortunately getting a 4 here because there's honestly not a ton I'd listen to more regularly, but it's a really good album. This is a 4 much like The Wall was a 4. Would be a 4.5 given the ability.

Younger Than Yesterday by The Byrds
Jul 02 2025

Nifty middle there, buuuut I think unfortunately just not quite enough to make it a 4!

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jul 03 2025

Ehhh it's enjoyable enough, some nice sound to it, but none of it really sticks with me.

Two Dancers by Wild Beasts
Jul 04 2025

Okay Wild Beasts, y'all got some fucky lyrics, but damn if the tunes aren't good.

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Jul 05 2025

I do see where the Elvis hype came from! Kinda jammin. At the very least vibin. Nothing that stands out too much still, though.

Jul 06 2025

It was nice to finally listen to this! Coincidentally, it is a lot like listening to Elvis for me: I vibe with it, but it's mostly fine overall.

Hypocrisy Is The Greatest Luxury by The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy
Jul 07 2025

Really great stuff here. I've liked this style of rap for a while now and there are some great beats behind it. And of course the messaging is still pretty relevant, unfortunately!

Sea Change by Beck
Jul 08 2025

Weirdly, I only started to like this a bit from Lonesome Tears on. It was a 2 before, but there's enough decent stuff to make it a 3. Just not really my style, overall.

At Newport 1960 by Muddy Waters
Jul 09 2025

Pretty good live album! I'm not usually big on those, but he and his blues sound pretty great here.

Jul 10 2025

Hey it's Queen! Pretty fun vibes all around. Fun listening to them play around on their non-hit songs.

The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips
Jul 11 2025

Prettty nice stuff again! I liked the sound of a lot of this. I could see more entering my possible likes on relistens, but I liked a decent bit as is.

Dirt by Alice In Chains
Jul 12 2025

They're really almost a 4 for me. Unfortunately, they struggle to keep my attention it seems? There keeps being songs I almost like more, but then they all blend together into a similar if enjoyable sound.

Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin
Jul 13 2025

It's just not doing much of anything for me, unfortunately. Pleasant enough to listen to, but blends together, and nothing really sticks out too much.

The Modern Lovers by The Modern Lovers
Jul 14 2025

Ugh okay so this kinda felt like a slog to get through for me. But honestly, some parts of it aren't too bad, it'd be nice if they'd lean into those parts. It's staring longingly across the street at my alley, as opposed to some other 1s that were perhaps in another city, so it gets the 2 on that count.

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
Jul 15 2025

Very solid jazz, as to be expected! Admittedly not something I'd find myself listening to on any sort of regular basis, but it's good stuff.

Pornography by The Cure
Jul 16 2025

I wasn't exactly expecting this to still be so good, but it's still SO good. I think I actually enjoy the rawness of it a little more than disintegration? But like damn near every track is good here.

Vento De Maio by Elis Regina
Jul 17 2025

Pretty decent stuff! Nothing too bad, not a lot standing out, but pleasant enough.

Closer by Joy Division
Jul 18 2025

Okay, this is one of those weird ones. I feel like I like this a little more than I actually do, if that makes any sense. It's very possible that this'll be a 4 in the future, but for right now it just doesn't quiiite hit enough to make it there.

Pretenders by Pretenders
Jul 19 2025

Ahh this is another one of those likely candidates to be a 4 on future listens, but just isn't quite hitting me enough to make it there right now. REALLY strong start though.

Hot Shots II by The Beta Band
Jul 21 2025

I actually liked the vibe of this a good bit I think! I wanna relisten to it more but there's a good few tracks I liked immediately.

At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
Jul 22 2025

One of those reminders there's good country out there! Not the sort of thing I'd listen to at random, but it makes for a really good album and just absolutely solid listening experience. Really hard to beat Cash when it comes to country stuff.

Slayed? by Slade
Jul 23 2025

I'm pretty fine with the sound of a lot of this but nothing really stuck with me. And normally that would probably be a 3, hooowever here the singer's voice is actually kinda annoying to me!

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Jul 24 2025

This one has some pretty cool pieces that stick out to me. Nothing I'd listen to on the regular, unfortunately, but I can tell it's good stuff (and of course, very influential)

Violator by Depeche Mode
Jul 25 2025

It's reeeeal good. After listening to only some great reward for years, hearing another album by them lived up to the hype!

Synchronicity by The Police
Jul 26 2025

Y'know what, I liked some of the weird shit in here. Even if I wouldn't listen to it regularly, I kinda enjoyed Mother just being out there. I like stuff like the Synchronicity tracks more than I liked every breath you take. Not everything's that interesting, but neat album!

Vespertine by Björk
Jul 27 2025

This album is really a remarkable up from her first. Her voice really works well here WITH the music imo. It doesn't quite hit as hard after the first 5 songs, but even then it's really good stuff. Could've been a 5 for me if it kept going that way, but what's there isn't bad.

Slipknot by Slipknot
Jul 28 2025

It might help that I frequently don't understand lyrics that much the first time anyway, but I enjoyed this to a degree? I just can't get past the screamy delivery. But the actual instrumentals and whatnot under them, I would've liked a lot if they were isolated I think.

War by U2
Jul 29 2025

Okay I actually liked this a good bit more than I expected! Starts off really strong and even though the back half isn't as much my taste, it's still pretty good.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters by Fiona Apple
Jul 30 2025

This is one of those Maybe A Four In The Future albums. I kinda like the experimentation and rawness of it, but something about it just being so... acoustic/plain doesn't really grab me for a lot of it? Not bad though.

Smokers Delight by Nightmares On Wax
Jul 31 2025

Very solid vibes. Unfortunately not really engaging enough for me to really consider listening again, and it's pretty lengthy... but I enjoyed my brief time in smokers delight.

Timeless by Goldie
Aug 01 2025

God damn. When I saw this long-ass album runtime I was already dreading it, but it won me over like instantly. It is some really good groovin drum n bass in here. My only real issue with it is that I wouldn't listen to it or its tracks very much on account of their length, but damn. It's real good otherwise.

Aug 02 2025

Kinda whelmed by my first time hearing them proper. It may also just not be my style? But it's not bad either.

Slanted And Enchanted by Pavement
Aug 03 2025

This seemed pretty totally fine. Very forgettable, but there were a couple songs I liked in particular.

Aug 04 2025

At first this sorta washed over me like a 3 would, but I decided to relisten later when I was feeling less tired and it's pretty good! Some nice gritty stuff in here, I like it.

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Aug 05 2025

Okay this album is actually fire. I think this is the most this genre, or maybe specifically this type of metal, has ever actually stuck and resonated with me? Something about it is just EXCELLENT sounding. Even despite the long song lengths, I never got the usual feeling of all this guitar sounding the same for 40 minutes. Great stuff.

Konnichiwa by Skepta
Aug 06 2025

This is one of those almost-4 albums for me. I think the main thing standing in the way is I struggle to pick out any song in particular I'd feel like listening to on its own, or the skits included on them interfere with what I'd choose. That said, good beats and flow! I enjoyed the music.

Aug 07 2025

Really smooth album! A lot of great tracks in here. Good production, most of the lyrics, vibes, so on and so forth. Just solid all around.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Aug 08 2025

Ah, this album is not really my cup of tea. It's just too acoustic for me, although I can tell he's doing work with that harmonica, and just overall compared to some other country/folk stuff I've heard thus far. Some tracks I would nearly like enough to listen to more often, but just aaaaren't quite there. I can tell he's good at his work though, and the songwriting is solid, which is why he gets a 3 here where I'd usually dish out a 2.

Franz Ferdinand by Franz Ferdinand
Aug 09 2025

This is a 4 that could be a 5 if I relisten to it enough honestly. I already liked Take Me Out and This Fire prior to this whole album listen, but there were even more bangers in store! The only thing is... I think it's missing some sort of zip. It's really solid, but it was never quite 'Holy FUCK this is amazing' music. Still really really good though.

Horses by Patti Smith
Aug 10 2025

This is once again just a bit outside of my tastes, but you can definitely see the bones of what I like! I'm most fond of Free Money here, but definitely like other parts too here and there. It's good.

Music From Big Pink by The Band
Aug 11 2025

It's pretty decent vibes, but none of the songs really go further than that for me.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Aug 12 2025

Okay this would be a 3 if not for the backstory, which is very cool. Props to Mr. Jarrett for that. The piano is pretty solid as far as I can tell, just not my thing.

Aug 13 2025

I'm not completely opposed to ambient music, but I reeeally don't particularly care for it. Pretty important and not bad, though.

Psychocandy by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Aug 14 2025

There are a few times where I feel like I wanna give it a 4, but overall it just feels kinda muddled! I like noisy stuff, but this all blends together without any element really standing out against each other. Not bad at all though.

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Aug 15 2025

I am surprised how much I liked this one! I went into it sort of expecting a 'good' but 3-star album to me, just on account of it being okay acoustic stuff, but it had a lot more zing to it than that. Cool stuff!

Moondance by Van Morrison
Aug 16 2025

I sure did listen to Moondance by Van Morrison for thirty-eight minutes and fifty-four seconds. It was okay

Modern Kosmology by Jane Weaver
Aug 18 2025

Yeah okay this is a certified banger. I can't really say why it's on this list either, but it IS good shit, and pretty consistently good shit at that!

Aug 19 2025

I was hoping to like this a little more but it just doesn't quite gel with me right now it seems! It is fun, but there's not much I'd listen to more regularly from it. Maybe in the future?

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Aug 21 2025

Verrrry solid fun album! I could almost see it going to a 5, but I was sorta struggling to pick out which songs I'd want to listen to more regularly! Still, absolutely fantastic vibes while I was there.

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar
Aug 22 2025

This lives up to the hype VERY solidly. This is something that could easily be a 5 in the future, it's just not right this second because I'm not sure that I'd listen to most of these too regularly... But regardless, as an album it is very solid. It's cool seeing the poem build up, as well recurring lyrics or phrases, and of course Kendrick is just so good at his craft, god damn. Producers on this are also insane.

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
Aug 23 2025

This album is really pretty funny, howeeever there isn't actually much I'd care to listen to more frequently. For me he's very much a musician I like in low doses. Not a bad album though.

Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
Aug 24 2025

Maybe this is a little harsh, but I kinda did not care about anything on this album except maybe a fraction of a song or two? I usually relisten, but I am really uninterested in doing so here.

California by American Music Club
Aug 25 2025

There was some okay stuff but it was REALLY uninteresting overall.

Off The Wall by Michael Jackson
Aug 26 2025

Really good stuff, makes a good case for him being as popular as he is! The slower second half is not really my jam, but still not bad.

Station To Station by David Bowie
Aug 27 2025

This album is a lot of fun! I liked just about every song on it (it may help there are only 6 lol). I feel weirdly like each of the songs were 'just' solid to me, but I did like nearly all of them soooo...

Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye
Aug 28 2025

I mean it is pretty solid, just not really something I'd listen to on my own at all.

Freak Out! by The Mothers Of Invention
Aug 29 2025

Okay this album is really funny. And progressive for its time (still in many ways)! The music itself tends to be pretty enjoyable too, although most of it I wouldn't listen to outside of the album. But still, it's really pretty good.

Parallel Lines by Blondie
Aug 30 2025

Pretty goooood stuff! We have of course the two main all-timer bangers on here, but even right at the start I am hanging on the telephone. It does have its slower songs which I'm not as big on, but it is still overall really solid.

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
Aug 31 2025

Really pleasant listen. Cool to know where 'elevator music' came from, and I understand why it was so popular haha.

Shaft by Isaac Hayes
Sep 01 2025

Surprisingly good! Funky and cool, although it largely blends into itself for me, which is my main detraction. Also verrry long.

The Bends by Radiohead
Sep 02 2025

This one is kinda weird to me because I only really liked about two or so songs, but it's pretty solid altogether. I could see me growing fonder of other songs in the future too.

Sep 03 2025

This is okay! Of course Respect is good, everything else is pretty much fine although it sort of blends together for me.

The Hissing Of Summer Lawns by Joni Mitchell
Sep 04 2025

This didn't quiiiite hit me as much as the last Joni Mitchell album I heard, but it's still pretty decent!

Play by Moby
Sep 05 2025

This is REALLY on the line for me but I think I'm going to give this a 4. It's very minimal to be sure, but I think I enjoy it quite a bit as background music? It's close to being too long for me, but some of the tracks towards the end help keep it alive for me (Machete and Inside being my favorite).

Eliminator by ZZ Top
Sep 06 2025

Unfortunately this just blends together to create one of the most 3-star albums ever. They aren't bad to listen to, but for whatever reason this type of rock just blends together soooo easily for me.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Sep 07 2025

I enjoyed this decently enough! It's just not really my thing, so it ends up blending together for the most part.

Achtung Baby by U2
Sep 08 2025

Unfortunately fairly mid. This album, amusingly, had the opposite issue of War, wherein it started to pick up more on the back half, but not enough for me to like it much more.

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
Sep 09 2025

It's goooood! Although a bit long to me. But I totally understand why Prince inspired so much other music now

Trafalgar by Bee Gees
Sep 10 2025

It has a fewww high notes but otherwise really uninteresting.

Revolver by Beatles
Sep 11 2025

Okay I don't know. I liked this better than Sgt. Pepper, and I thought it might be a 4 on the first listen, but like... it's just not there. I'm just not that interested in this style! However I will say that they are a step above just about all their contemporaries, absolutely.

Sep 12 2025

Okay, this album is VERY funny to me, but the execution as music is not as there as I'd like. In that way this kind of reminds me of how I thought of The Slim Shady LP; funny, not bad, but nothing I'd want to listen to more often.

Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane
Sep 13 2025

Ehhhhhhh this was fine. There are some high points for sure, but really it's mostly just fine.

Beautiful Freak by Eels
Sep 14 2025

This really doesn't do it for me, oooutside of a couple songs. It picks up towards the end, though not quite enough.

Moon Safari by Air
Sep 15 2025

Okay I listened to this one like three times just to be sure but for whatever reason, it just was not landing with me very well? It's fine. No real issues with it. Just not really higher for me

Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan
Sep 16 2025

Pretty fun album! Has some more variety and/or personally interesting tracks to me than Aja, while still being pretty nicely short.

The La's by The La's
Sep 17 2025

It's pretty fine. There are some parts of songs I like but ultimately it's all very samey and just fine.

21 by Adele
Sep 18 2025

This is a pretty fucking good album. It does unfortunately falter in the middle there a bit for me, but all the singles are deservedly so, and Lovesong is such a chef's kiss addition on here.

Pink Flag by Wire
Sep 19 2025

It was pretty fine. I do at least appreciate it's short! Some things got my attention but a lot of it blurred together.

Larks' Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson
Sep 21 2025

Okay, the spice did get recognized to me on the second listen. However I wouldn't ever really listen to this outside of this challenge... I'll still give it a 4, though.

Soul Mining by The The
Sep 22 2025

I don't know why, but I was kinda surprised by how solid this was! Uncertain Smile in particular was fire

2112 by Rush
Sep 23 2025

I really like that first track and given that it's half the album I think it's fair to carry it to a 4. Everything else is pretty okay too!

Penthouse And Pavement by Heaven 17
Sep 24 2025

This album is fucking great, y'all are crazy. I mean just very good danceable synthy business, fun (and meaningful) lyrics, even got some kraftwerk-y industrial stuff to it? To me it really stays just about as good the entire time, and by good I mean great. Come and join the fun on the way to heaven!

evermore by Taylor Swift
Sep 25 2025

Pretty fine! That is admittedly how I feel about most of swift's stuff. There are some songs I like by her, but by and large everything is pretty fine.

Sep 26 2025

Pretty fine! One of those sorta things where I don't feel like I need an album of it but I enjoyed my time enough at least.

Raw Power by The Stooges
Sep 27 2025

This is pretty fine! I elected to check out both mixes (Bowie after Iggy Pop for me), but the Bowie mix didn't really add enough for me to rate it higher. I enjoyed parts of it, just nothing too consistent.

Chirping Crickets by Buddy Holly & The Crickets
Sep 28 2025

I realize this has some importance, but really this is just fine to me. No real issues, but not really interesting either.

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Sep 29 2025

REALLY cool and great stuff. I think I'm a big fan of this gothic rock type sound.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Sep 30 2025

Iiiiit's just fine. I mean not bad, but nothing sticking out to me either.

The Cars by The Cars
Oct 01 2025

Really enjoyable stuff! It was fun to hear them dip into being more Talking Heads-y too.

Street Signs by Ozomatli
Oct 03 2025

Really good and fun album! Also I thought this was less popular from the spotify plays but apparently it got a grammy lmao

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Oct 04 2025

Hmmm it's pretty fine! Not much sticks out to me besides Windmills of your Mind, and Son of a Preacher Man on account of its popularity.

Pacific Ocean Blue by Dennis Wilson
Oct 05 2025

Ehhhhn there isn't really anything I'd come back for. It has just enough flavor for me to keep it above a 2, though.

Ritual De Lo Habitual by Jane's Addiction
Oct 06 2025

Pretty fun, but juuuust not quite there enough for a higher rating.

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Oct 07 2025

Hmmmm it doesn't quite reach up to a 4 for me but it's pretty close! He's doing cool stuff here, there's just few songs that stick with me the whole way.

Manassas by Stephen Stills
Oct 08 2025

I appreciate things being sectioned off disc by disc here, thaaaat said there's not a whole lot I especially like. Some good stuff around though.

Lost Souls by Doves
Oct 09 2025

Holy shittttttt!!! This album came out of nowhere (for me). They were not on my radar at all, but this album is awesome? I like damn near every song on it. And like on the first listen too, jesus. Wow

Behaviour by Pet Shop Boys
Oct 10 2025

Somehow, ANOTHER five back-to-back! I was really surprised by this. Wasn't really sure what to expect, but it wasn't some extremely good synth. I see it was inspired by Violator, which checks out... Really good on the lyrical front too.

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Oct 11 2025

This album really just washes over me (ha). Not bad, but nothing too interesting in particular

All Mod Cons by The Jam
Oct 12 2025

I almost want to give this one a four sometimes, but it juuuust doesn't quite get there overall unfortunately.

The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter by The Incredible String Band
Oct 13 2025

Okay you know, there's not really anything here I'd listen to much outside of this challenge/the album, but I kinda liked it! It's about as neat as this genre gets for me I think. They're doing some cool stuff.

The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Oct 14 2025

Pretty cool sound! Enjoyed a good chunk of it too.

Wonderful Rainbow by Lightning Bolt
Oct 15 2025

They were pretty sick with it honestly! I probably wouldn't listen to much of on its own, but it's so cool I don't think I can resist giving it a 4. And I did enjoy a lot of the tracks while I was there.

Buffalo Springfield Again by Buffalo Springfield
Oct 17 2025

There's just enough stuff in here to keep me mildly interested above a 2. However, still not really my thing.

Rio by Duran Duran
Oct 18 2025

Hmmm I thought I'd be more into this but it's really just okay! A pretty decent sound, had a fun time, but not really something that'll stick in my mind.

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Oct 19 2025

It's okay. I do like some stuff from it but it does run into the issue of just being too long without much variety.

Tonight's The Night by Neil Young
Oct 20 2025

Okay this Neil Young album I like more than the other one I heard (On The Beach). Admittedly disregarding albums where he's otherwise involved, as I forget. There's just a little bit more personally interesting stuff in this album, although overall it's still not really my thing.

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Oct 21 2025

I feel like I need to listen to this even more, but this is a cool album. There's something alluring about it! I'm kinda addicted to the chorus of Houses in Motion. No trouble at all

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Oct 22 2025

Hmmmm this one doesn't quite have whatever sauce for me I was so interested in the previous (Remain In Light). Not bad, though!

Green by R.E.M.
Oct 23 2025

Ehhh. Not bad but just kinda blends together!

Arise by Sepultura
Oct 24 2025

Neat to hear history in the making for this genre! However that said, this genre still doesn't really do it for me-- I like the instrumentation but can't get into the vocals.

Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash
Oct 25 2025

This is bizarre, but I weirdly kinda liked this? At least a few songs got my attention. Unfortunately most of it just isn't really my jam, but still, surprised!

Truth by Jeff Beck
Oct 26 2025

Pretty okay, but very cool for 1968! Doesn't really do it for me, but not bad and doesn't overstay.

The Band by The Band
Oct 27 2025

It's not horrible, but it sure felt long for being 40 minutes.

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Oct 28 2025

This is a weird one to me. The first side is a pretty tight concept album thing-- not really my type musically, but pretty sweet in its narrative and structure. However then it turns into a weird blend of singles which are admittedly more my style! But they're just... there. Also my favorite song on this is Hazy Shade of Winter but I like the one by Gerard Way and Ray Toro better...

System Of A Down by System Of A Down
Oct 29 2025

This isn't really an album I could listen to any part of on its own, but I enjoyed my stay while I was there! It's good stuff, tasty instruments and solid lyrics.

Pelican West by Haircut 100
Oct 30 2025

Hmmm I almost want to like this one more, but it really just blends together for me? It feels not quite distinctive enough.

In Rainbows by Radiohead
Oct 31 2025

Okay while The Bends was solid, not a lot of it hooked me immediately. Not like this one! Starts of hard with 15 Step into Bodysnatchers, and while it slows down it continues to have very good shit. The ending with Videotape is really good too.

The Specials by The Specials
Nov 01 2025

Felt oddly sour on this one compared to More Specials. Maybe I just don't like older ska too much?

Come Find Yourself by Fun Lovin' Criminals
Nov 02 2025

I almost fuck with this at a few points, but they're unfortunately kinda sparse. Fun time, though!

Vanishing Point by Primal Scream
Nov 03 2025

Wasn't expecting this from the band name! Unfortunately it's all over the place and nothing completely grabs me... But not bad overall.

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails
Nov 04 2025

I think I have to give this a 5 just on account of the amount of time it took me to decide lol. It's a HARD listen and though there's a decent amount I'd be willing to maybe listen to on its own, I am sorta leery to if I'm not in the right state of mind! That said, great stuff music-wise and as an album.

Nov 05 2025

Really cool! I'd listened to Grounds For Divorce for years prior to this (on account of Left 4 Dead), but this album was a treat. It unfortunately slows down a good bit from the really strong start, but even then it's pretty solid throughout.

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
Nov 06 2025

This is more musically my style than Nebraska, but just like... It's not really something I'd listen to anything from independently.

A Love Supreme by John Coltrane
Nov 07 2025

It goes hard! Without getting some of the finer details I can certainly enjoy it and its exciting energy.

Illmatic by Nas
Nov 08 2025

Yeah I enjoyed my time here with Illmatic! Nas' lyricism is very good stuff, all accompanied by groovin beats and just a generally good vibe.

69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields
Nov 09 2025

Stephin, Your Album Is Too Long I respect the gimmick, but it's really, really samey... and it's not even that good of a samey! I say this as someone who listened to the entire Gershwin Songbook, I did not feel like listening to all of this.

The Undertones by The Undertones
Nov 10 2025

It's pretty alright! But just alright.

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Nov 11 2025

I liked this more than I was expecting! It's really pretty solid stuff. A lot of the 2000s indie stuff has been surprisingly enjoyable each time, it's cool!

Nov 12 2025

VERY solid stuff. It's a little rough around the edges for me to give it a 5, even though I like quite a bit of it, but that's okay. I already know Dear Science is/will be a 5. Good debut!

Talk Talk Talk by The Psychedelic Furs
Nov 13 2025

It really is kinda unfortunate, I wanted to like this more! It starts off really strong, but then after that it just starts blurring together for the most part.

Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Nov 14 2025

Ugh I think this is actually my favorite Springsteen album yet (having only listened to Nebraska and Born in the U.S.A.), but I just... don't care for his music too much! It's good, I can certainly see the appeal. It just doesn't vibe with me enough.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Nov 15 2025

Maybe it was rubbing me the wrong way or something but I feel like I liked this one less than Green? Not that I remember Green well, but I felt periodically mildly irritated listening to this. It could be just another 3, but right now it's getting this 2.

The Nightfly by Donald Fagen
Nov 16 2025

Mmm it's okay! I wasn't super hot on Steely Dan to begin with when I first heard Aja, but this is definitely not as good as that. That said, still fairly groovy and not bad!

Crazysexycool by TLC
Nov 17 2025

While I do enjoy this, only a couple things even stand out! Also while I enjoy skits, there's too many here I think

Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine
Nov 18 2025

Really cool and good! It's very apparent why they became so popular and influential, this is a lot of really solid stuff. The only reason for not being a 4 really is that I wouldn't listen to it much on its own, but it's damn close.

Hysteria by Def Leppard
Nov 19 2025

You know what? Usually this genre blends together for me pretty badly, but somehow Def Leppard managed to penetrate through that. I ended up liking about half the songs here (and the rest are okay). I think I'd chalk it up to their delivery of certain lines, sometimes that alone piques my interest in a song!

Lust For Life by Iggy Pop
Nov 20 2025

Uhhhhh I don't really care for this at all actually. I can see it being a predecessor to some stuff I like in the future, but this alone I don't really care for any tracks on (not terrible, though)

The Yes Album by Yes
Nov 21 2025

This is actually neater than I expected! My only real issue is it's sort of unlistenable outside of the album, but I did enjoy a good chunk of it.

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Nov 22 2025

I didn't find this as interesting/good as Figure 8, but I enjoyed it decently enough!

Skylarking by XTC
Nov 23 2025

Much like Apple Venus Volume 1, I quite enjoyed my time with this album! Although I think I found Apple Venus to have more tracks closer to my taste.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Nov 24 2025

Verrrrry solid four here. Maybe a 4.5, my main issue is just it being a bit padded, I think? Very good and listenable stuff, just very similar much of the time.

British Steel by Judas Priest
Nov 25 2025

Hmmmm I struggle to define exactly why, but this just doesn't quite do anything for me. I understand its position though, releasing this right in 1980.

Songs From A Room by Leonard Cohen
Nov 26 2025

Wow! This is just really not for me. Not bad, just reeeeeally not my preference, and doesn't strike enough of a chord otherwise.

Don't Stand Me Down by Dexys Midnight Runners
Nov 27 2025

It seems like maybe this is a cult classic, for some people? I can almost understand it, but it's really just okay for me, and dragged down by soooo many talking bits during tracks. Why is "This Is What She's Like" 12 minutes?

Nov 28 2025

Still a very cool listen! Doves' first album Lost Souls gripped me harder and quickly, too, but their second one is still extremely solid! I wonder if I'd like this more if it was the first album I heard from them. Regardless, good stuff.

Dummy by Portishead
Nov 29 2025

Extremely solid four, great stuff! I'd only known it for Roads so I was hoping it'd be a little more consistently on that level, but it's still full of good stuff. Ultimately it is just a bit subdued for my tastes.

Raw Like Sushi by Neneh Cherry
Nov 30 2025

When I first listened to this I actually enjoyed it enough I was considering it as a 4. However it doesn't really stand up on a later relisten, and there's not much I'd listen to outside it. I am very amused by it though. Why, that's the next generation!

Close To You by Carpenters
Dec 01 2025

You know, I weirdly really liked this. I'm not usually one for albums like this or in this style, but somehow each song was alluring in its own ways. Maybe also familiar, I wasn't sure. Still not a ton I'd listen to on their own, but very nice.

Tapestry by Carole King
Dec 02 2025

Very solid stuff! She has a great voice, good listening.

Funeral by Arcade Fire
Dec 03 2025

Hmmm I think I do like this more than The Suburbs on account of length, but it's still just kinda ok!

Gasoline Alley by Rod Stewart
Dec 04 2025

Unnnnfortunately I just really don't vibe that well with it. It has some instrumentation that is cool to my ear in the beginning, and then sparsely throughout, but that's really it.

...And Justice For All by Metallica
Dec 05 2025

This is like a 3.5 or something, realistically. It's starting to click more after the second listen, but overall it's just... a bit too long, both in album length and track length, to really stick there. A pretty good sound though, even if it sometimes blends!

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Dec 06 2025

This was really nice! It feels like a peak of this genre in the 60s, which seems to make sense given its influence? Starts off with the very good and classic Wouldn't It Be Nice, and then to me it's okay-pleasant for a while. But then Let's Go Away For Awhile comes in, a track with a novel mood for the album and signalling a change to some great stuff! I could see this potentially being a 5 at some point in the future, but for right now I'm just not as interested in that first half.

Countdown To Ecstasy by Steely Dan
Dec 07 2025

Mmmm yeah I like this pretty well! Steely Dan still doesn't quite reach 5 territory, but I do enjoy the energetic vibe of a lot of this. Particularly the beginning, but still strong throughout.

Dirty by Sonic Youth
Dec 08 2025

Apt album name! And god, it really IS close to that 5. I think this is my favorite sonic youth album thus far (having listened to Goo and Washing Machine). It has a really excellent sound and cool songwriting and delivery. My only note against it is it feels a bit too long! There's also some slow points earlier on that aren't my thing. But really good stuff.

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Dec 09 2025

Okay you know what, yeah I'll give this the 4. It IS very long, but it remains surprisingly pretty consistently solid throughout! I liked quite a few tracks more than I expected.

Floodland by Sisters Of Mercy
Dec 10 2025

This is really solid and I love the sound. It's short and I love about half the album... For now this is a 4 because I feel like it's lacking a little oomph to get it up to a 5, but this could easily be one in the future.

Kenza by Khaled
Dec 11 2025

Okay some of this is actually pretty nifty! However it's only some, and it really is just too long imo. Also shout out to Mele H'Bibti diving into drum n bass

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Dec 13 2025

Hmmm there's like glints of something better in here, but really overall it's just fine. Kinda blends together

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Dec 14 2025

Pretty nicely funky!

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Dec 15 2025

Pretty good! I liked a good chunk of this, particularly in the beginning but some stuff later too (Andy Warhol is funny, Bewlay Brothers is good, and several others are still enjoyable listens)

Parachutes by Coldplay
Dec 16 2025

Ehhhhhh I do sorta like coldplay? But maybe only here and there, because this album wasn't really doing it for me. Fine in general though. Yellow still doesn't really do anything special for me :p I liked Don't Panic and Spies in particular

#1 Record by Big Star
Dec 17 2025

Completely fine. Very unremarkable but I liked Feel, at least

Dec 18 2025

Daaaaayum, this album goes pretty hard! While not everything is quite my style, there's a lot of very cool shit that's just good listening, along with good lyrics too

Melody A.M. by Röyksopp
Dec 19 2025

Another 4 that's really close to a 5. Just great vibes, a bit slow at times and not everything stands out to me, but what I like is VERY good.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Dec 20 2025

Really uninteresting! Usually there's at least one song I like to make it a 3, or perhaps something else neat, but this is just... all the same, and it's not even a very good same. It is ok.

Live At The Star Club, Hamburg by Jerry Lee Lewis
Dec 21 2025

WOW this dude sucks! However, unfortunately, this is a pretty bangin live album. I'm not the biggest fan of this style of music, but it's really undeniable how much energy it brings to the table

Scream, Dracula, Scream by Rocket From The Crypt
Dec 22 2025

This seems extremely okay. Not terrible, but not particularly good either

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Dec 23 2025

Still pretty solid! Much like his other album (Let's Get It On), I can tell it's pretty good, but it's just not really my style of music.

Tragic Songs of Life by The Louvin Brothers
Dec 24 2025

I'm not louvin it! Unfortunately this REALLY does not do anything for me. It's just so samey and uninteresting; at least the Everly Brothers had things like LUCILLLLLE

Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta
Dec 25 2025

This might be my favorite prog rock album I've heard so far. Not usually a big fan of the genre just because lengthy songs are tough and don't lend themselves to listening more frequently, but! This album is really cool! It is maybe a bit on the long side, but... Very high 4. One of those possible 5s in the future.

Dec 26 2025

Perfectly alright collection of christmas songs! I am admittedly listening to this in april, but I think I'd rate it the same either way. Nothing too remarkable to me

Dec 27 2025

Okay, after a relisten I do definitely get the appeal now! His lyric-writing is pretty great all around in here. Admittedly this genre still isn't my thing and the only song I really particularly vibed with was Bob Dylan's 115th Dream on account of it being very amusing, buuuut this is probably close to the best of this style for me!

Abbey Road by Beatles
Dec 28 2025

Okay you know what, yeah. The hype is completely understandable. I wouldn't necessarily listen to all of this so often right now, but I can only imagine this would blow your mind in 1969. There's a lot of great tracks on here, some phenomenal segues especially in the second half too. My favorites that I'd listen to independently were Come Together, Something, and Carry That Weight, but I have to give a shout-out to Polythene Pam/She Came In Through The Bathroom Window because that transition rips.

Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
Dec 29 2025

Pretttty cool! There's a lot of cool shit in here, also was amused by Exorcist jumpscare. Some stuff like the guitar showing up around 6 minutes of part one is sick as hell. Overall this is really too long for me to listen to on any regular basis (and part two has some oddities...), but it's really solid.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Dec 30 2025

Ehhhhhhh. I'm honestly close to giving this a 2, but there are just enough decent ones to carry it over to a 3... But god is this too long. And a lot very uninteresting

Reign In Blood by Slayer
Dec 31 2025

It's okay. I appreciate that it's so short, at least. I like bits and pieces (like in particular, about halfway through Raining Blood), but overall not something I'd really listen to again of my own volition.

Public Image: First Issue by Public Image Ltd.
Jan 01 2026

Yeah I just don't really like this. It has some okaaaay parts and I like some of the lyrical content, but it's not something I wanna listen to again.

Jan 02 2026

This is pretty ok! I broadly like the energy and style of music, but it just sorta ends up going in one ear and out the other. Enjoyable enough time though

Moving Pictures by Rush
Jan 03 2026

Pretttty solid stuff! I'm just not finding it in me to consider it a 5 at this time, however I do think this is closer (than 2112) just on account of it not being mostly loaded into one song.

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Jan 04 2026

Ahhh Neil Young just doesn't do it for me! I like some bits and pieces here and there, like the intro and outro tracks and some other parts, but overall it just does not stick around in my head much. Not a bad listen, and neat lyrics, but it just ends up feeling okay.

Jan 05 2026

Very COOL album! The songs I liked I did really like, but it does sorta blend together around the middle. I think it may be a little too long? Favorites being "Qui sème le vent récolte le tempo", "Quartier nord", and "Caroline"
