Very good album. Great songs: Whole lotta love, Heartbrraker, and Ramble on are classics.
Solid album. High energy with at least 3 classic songs.
Great album. One of the best albums from the 90's. Some classics (drive, everybody hurts, man on the moon...) and great "less-known" songs (star me kitten, try not to breathe, nightswimming, find the river).
Elegant, polished, professional, cilean...very good album. Josie, although "less experimental" than other tracks, is probably my favourite track (today)
No doubt, these are good musicians. The sound is really original (I particularly enjoyed side 2" "Sly" and "Vein Melter"). Not my favourite style, but I enjoyed it.
Very good album. It took me several listens but I really enjoyed the contrast.
Masterpiece. Can't understand why it took me so long to listened to this. Glad I did.
Not a hip-hop buff, but worth the listen. I found it pretty repetitive (especially lyrically). I guess this may have been pretty provocative, but I found it kind of boring.
Not a hip-hop fun but I enjoyed this one, especially the singles.
Good listen. Nothing incredible but good album. I particularly enjoyed the last song: We Had It All
Great album. Plenty of classics: Dead Flowers, Brown Sugar, Wild Horses, Can't you hear me knocking, Bitch, Sway... a couple of not so great tracks, but still a top album.
First krautrock experience. Very interesting. I really liked it. It's nice to learn and discover different things.
Another great album by Bowie. The only song I don't love happens to be the Rolling Stones' cover (and it's still pretty good). And some songs are real classics.
Good album. Solid compositions and production. Nothing terribly exciting, but not every album needs to be a revolution. Sit and relax...
Solid album. I was doubting between 3 and 4 stars. But the last two songs (Life's a Gas and Rip off) make this a 4-star album for me. Apart from those, I really enjoyed Cosmic Dancer and Get it on.
After listening again, this is not between 3 and 4. This is actually a solid 4.
Very good album. Great guitar and drumming sound. After a few listens, this is at least 4 stars (may even reach 5 if I keep listening). Some favourites: "Here", "Summer Babe", "Trigger Cut", "In the mouth of a desert", "Zurich is stained", "Loretta's scars", "Jackals...", or "Singers". Plenty of good stuff.
I understand this album must have been pretty disruptive when published in 1980. However, even if I enjoyed it and I think it's a good album, when rating the music itself, I feel like 3 stars are ok.
Very good album. I had never listened to Arcade Fire but I really enjoyed this album. This is definitely between 4 and 5 stars. I love the concept of the album and the way how songs relate to each other. Month of May. The Suburbs, Sprawls (I and II), Half Light...great songs. It is probably a bit too long for my personal taste. With a couple less songs, this may have reached 5 stars.
Direct and varied songs. I really liked it. Of course, the songs Nirvana covered are among the best ones. I also enjoyed the instrumental Aurora Borealis. 4 stars after just one listen.
I'm not a blues expert, but you can easily tell this is a solid blues album. If you hate blues, you're gonna hate it. If you love blues, you're probably gonna love it. If you have any interest for music in general, you should be able to at least enjoy it. I don't see how anyone with a minimun interest can rate this with less than 3 stars.
It reminds me a bit of early Dylan or acoustic Springsteen. Very good storytelling. Good album with a bunch of very good protest songs.
This is pretty good. High energy music. I like it. This is not really and album but a compilation. The songs I enjoyed the most are probably "Untutored youth" and the instrumental one: "The Hives are law, You're crime". In any case, the more I listened to it, the more I like it. And, by the way, this stuff must be great in concert.
Even if I own the original CD, I had not listened to this in many years. This is one of the great things of this project. Very good album. Bowie's influence is clear...and that's always good. Great songs: We are the pigs, heroine, the wild ones, new generation... This may have got 5 stars if two or three songs had been scrapped.
Good album. The tracks I enjoyed the most: "I see you", "What's happening?", and "Eight miles high". This is probably between 3 and 4 stars for me. The guitar sound by Roger McGuinn is really good. After listening to the "The Notorious Byrd Brothers", I'm enjoying more The Byrds. So, I've come back to this and this is now getting a solid 4 stars rating.
I don't know much about oldies and I do not usually listen to this kind of music. But it is obvious that this is good, and I enjoyed it a lot. No doubt The Beatles listened to all this stuff in their early years.
Ok, let's face it: this guy is an asshole, but he has talent. I found this album very inspired and interesting. I guess it helps that I'm not a native speaker, so I don't understand some of the sexist stuff (I don't really care about other aspects like drugs or cursing). Some tracks I enjoyed: "Black Skinhead", "New Slaves", "Hold my liquor", "Blood on the leaves", or "Bound 2".
I guess this is probably ok for a dance club, but I didn't enjoy it that much. Not my favourite kind of music. Too long and pretty repetitive. "Praise you" is the track I enjoyed the most.
Great album. Interesting how each song has its own identity. From blues rock, to folk, hard rock,... A classic album by one of the most influential bands in rock history.
This is, for better or worse, just fine. Nothing really special, but nice to listen to. So, it's kind of average for me. It may grow if I kept listening, but I don't think I'll find the time.
I'm not a huge Eagles fan, but this album is really good. I had not listened to it for a number of years, but I really enjoyed it. It's definitely in the 4-5 star range.
Had never listened to The Stranglers. Actually enjoyed this one quite a bit. Good songs.
I wanted this to be 5 stars...but it is not. It's more between 3 and 4, but I must award 4 stars because I found two songs to be really great. As for the rest, they are indeed good songs, but I just find they are not very innovative. I guess that's part of the whole concept, but I felt the music lacked personality or uniqueness. In any case, a good album with no bad songs.
Good album. I haven't been able to listen to it with the attention it deserves, but I enjoyed it. I enjoyed songs like Shadowboxer, Sleep to Dream or, especially, Criminal.
I know this is a classic. I didn't feel like the first tracks are that special but then it got really better. Very good. Pump it up is a really cool song.
Ok. This is not for the casual listener...or for the casual listening. You need to be in the right mood. But, if you are, this turned out to be really great. Suzanne, Sisters of Mercy. Really good songs. At least 4 stars even if it didn't catch me in the first listen.
Good album. To be listened again.
This is a classic. Very good album. Among the greatest.
Very good. Exceeded my expectationd (and those were already pretty high). Chrissie Hynde is great. And so is the rhythm section. Lyrics were also ok. Really enjoyed this one.
There is no doubt that they are great musicians. And they do something really special. However, it's not my favourite kind of music.
I enjoyed this one very much. One of the greatest surprises in this project so far. Solid 4 stars. Direct, distinctive, and inspired songs. I also enjoyed the lyrics. Some songs I particularly enjoyed: Goin' back, Draft Morning, Change is now, Old John Robertson, or Tribal Gathering.
Very good album with a very interesting sound. Some great songs: A forest (of course), M (probably the most "accessible" one), Seventeen Seconds...
I've listened to 5 or 6 hip-hop albums in this project. This is the one I enjoyed the most. It's definitely 3 stars at least (and pretty close to 4 stars).
I love what Eno did with Bowie, so I was ready to give this one 5 stars. However, it's not that good for me. It's more like 4 stars. Highly distinctive sound. Songs I liked the most: Do The Strand, In Every Dream Home a Heartache, The Bogus Man.
For whatever reason I had never listened to Rush. This would be 5 stars based on side one. I don't think the songs on side two are that great, but the more I listen to it, the more I love that side one. Really great. I think I need to catch up with the rest of their discography.
Great. A masterpiece. One of the best album by the best band. All songs are great except Maxwell's Silver Hammer and Octopus' Garden. I particularly love I Want You and the medley.
It's a good album, but I don't think it's really great. It's pretty long and ends up sounding a bit repetitive. Amy singing is great though. I'm also a bit surprised that Amy Winehouse has her two albums in this project.
A masterpiece. Probably my favourite album by one of my favourite artists (I've seen him live more than 10 times). I love most of the songs in this album: Badlands, Promised Land, Candy's Room, Darkness..., Racing in the street, Streets of Fire...As far as I'm concerned, this is better than Born to run, the River (which should be in this list by the way), or Born in the USA.
This is a solid album. Good singer, great musicians, good compositions...but, not really my favourite kind of music. I guess it's probably the production (too "polished") or something.
Very good album. I really liked the "Marque Moon" song (among others). I'll listen to this again to check the lyrics. It's 4 stars now...but I can see this reaching 5 stars after a few more listens.
There is no doubt that this is a good album, and I'm pretty sure this must be great in a concert. However, I did not find it very exciting. In any case, definitely worth a re-listen.
I have the feeling that if we include jazz, we may end up with 1001 jazz records. This is obviously very good, even if I'm not a jazz expert.
Very interesting. Really enjoyed it. It's not my favourite kind of music, but this was good (and a discovery, as I had heard of Fela Kuti but had never listened to his music).
I found this one somewhat interesting, but not really a fan. Too long. First song sounded promising. And yes, the Imagine cover was not really needed.
Very good album. Not a big fan of "El condor pasa" or the "Bye, bye love" cover. But I really liked The Boxer, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, or The Only Living Boy in New York.
A difficult one (meaning difficult between 4 and 5 stars). Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence are so incredibly good (probably too good even). It's a very good album and it deserves at least 4 stars just based on those two songs. I also enjoyed Halo, Waiting for the Night or Policy of truth.
Good album. Excellent guitar arrangements. Most of the songs are short and deceptively simple (the last suite came as a surprise). However, even if admitting that this is good, I didn't find it particularly interesting.
Very good album. Oppressive. Dark. Almost painful at times. I really liked "One Hundred Years", "The Figurehead", and "A Strange Day".
It's a good album, and I'm pretty sure that this must have been pretty influential when published. However, I'm not really excited. In particular, I don't think the covers are particularly interesting (neither the selection, nor the performance).
This is really close to 5 stars. Extremely influential. Short, direct, and distinct songs. As far as personal taste is concerned, I really like: Debaser, Monkey gone to heaven, Here comes your man, Mr Grieves, La la love you, Hey, Gouge Away...
It's pretty good. Kind of repetitive. Not a hip-hop fan, so not terribly excited about this.
I had never heard of Big Star. Good album. Not great, but very good. The songs are interesting and varied. It helps that they apparently had two leading singers.
Very good album. Several great songs. It's at least 4 stars. And, with a couple more listens, this may end up reaching 5.
Good album. Good composition. This could be 3 stars but, just because of Freedom (great track), it gets 4 stars.
It's pretty good. For some moments, it reminded me of REM or The Replacements. I particularly enjoyed Pretty in Pink, No tears, It goes on (really loved the guitar work on this one), All of This and Nothing... Many people seem to have issues with the saxophone. Not me. This is 3,5 stars for me.
Great. Exceeded expectations. For some reason, I didn't pay enough attention in the nineties. Killing in the name, Take the power back (love the bass), Settle for nothing (that guitar after minute 3), Bullet in the head... All tracks are great. Great and powerful lyrics, distinct sound (unique guitar sound), great singing... You can really feel the rage. Even the album cover is amazing. 5 stars.
No doubt they are good musicians and have a distinct sound. However, for some reason, I don't really like it that much. At times, I find it even a bit annoying. I enjoyed Cans and Brahms. Overall, I enjoyed instrumental parts (especially if not overloaded with keyboards). My favourite track is probably Mood for a Day (guitar instrumental). In my view, it gets better towards the end (I also enjoyed the last track: Heart of the Sunrise). An interesting thing is that I believe that the keyboard, which is supposed to be a main element, is what disturbs me. Get rid of the keyboard, and this gets 4 stars.
I love Bowie. And this is really good. Lust for life, The Passenger, and Tonight are enough to grant this one at least 4 stars. Success is also great. One of the albums I was looking forward to listening to, and it did not disapppoint.
Very good. I'm no blues expert at all, but I really enjoyed this one. It's actually interesting that the songs I enjoyed the most are, by far, the three last songs (with no special collaborators). I was not expecting to like this one as much as I did.
Good album. I'm not a big fan of reggae, but I actually enjoyed this one pretty much. The bass sounds is really good.
I liked the album cover, and the overall concept of the album sounds also interesting. However, musically speaking (and bearing in mind that I'm not a fan of hip-hop), I found this one pretty boring (the length is not helping either).
Another hip-hop album that feels kind of repetitive. Not very interesting for my taste. And definitely too long.
I'm not a fan of ska or reggae. So, I understand this may be a good album, but I find it kind of boring (at least musically).
Good album. I really enjoyed most of the songs. However, I don't like the screaming of Ian Gillan...so this is one of the main reasons why this is not getting 5 stars.
I actually liked this one more than I expected. Among a genre I don't really love, this was pretty interesting. It's between 2 and 3 stars for me.
Some may see this is depressing. Well...that's the point. I didn't know Elliott Smith but I think this album is really good. I'm giving this one 5 stars because, after listening to this album, I'm really looking forward to listening to some other albums by Smith. I think all songs are very good. Probably the best discovery for me personally in this project.
This is a classic album. However, I'm not a big fun of R&B, funky, or disco. So, for that reason, this is not that great for my personal taste. Anyway, the album is indeed enjoyable and, undoubtedly, very well produced.
I'm not a fan of hip-hop, but I have to say I found this one particularly boring.
I'm not a fan of this kind of music. And I may not listen to this album again. However, I found this one pretty interesting. This is between 2 and 3 stars, but I'm leaning towards 3 stars.
As another reviewer said, this album has basically all the right things. However, for some reason, I find it kind of boring and not very interesting. It is just a fine album.
Very good album. A classic. It contains some songs that get 10 points out of 10 ("Bohemian Rhapsody" or "Death on two legs" come to mind). I also think "You're my best friend" or "I'm in love with my car" are very good. However, I found 3 or 4 songs pretty average ("Lazing on a saturday afternoon", "Seaside rendevouz", "Good company"). For this reason, this ends up getting 4 stars.
Good pop-rock album. Clearly worth a listen. Energetic, enjoyable. I particularly liked "Automatic" (probably my favourite), "Our Lips are Sealed", "This Town", "We Got the Beat", or "Fading Fast". It's in the range between 3 and 4 stars.
Good album. It's a solid 3. But I don't think it goes beyond that. The song I liked the most is "Find Somebody" (kind of psychedelic).
Excellent album. A classic. "Bad moon rising", "Green river"... The characteristic sound of CCR. Actually, I'd say the song that I found less interesting is the cover ("The night is the right time"). So, this is between 4 and 5 stars, but I'm leaning 5 because all original songs are at least 4 stars, and they have at least 3 great songs.
Definitely interesting. It really caught my attention. I think this may grow on me. Really liked "The Mother We Share", "Gun", "Lies", "Science/Visions", or "You Caught The Light". It's probably a bit too long. It's 3.5 stars for me.
Very good album. 4 stars. I think all songs are pretty good ("So you want...", "CTA -102", "Everybody's been burned"...). And the cover of Dylan's "My back pages" is algo interesting.
This has definitely grown on me. At first, I didn't think it was that special. But, after a few listens, I moved from 3 stars to almost 5. Actually, the only reason not to award 5 stars is that I found a couple of songs a bit offputting (probably the music-hall influence). I found Side 2 very good. I found "Harry Rag" a bit similar to Tom Waits (??). Favourite tracks include: Situation Vacant, Love me Till The Sun shines, Lazy Old Sun, or Waterloo Sunset.
Not a big fan of latin sounds (and latin percussion in particular). I found this one is definitely good, but not great for me. For instance, I know " Oye como va" is a classic, but I don't really like it. That being said, I really enjoyed the guitar work (for instance in the jazz-inspired Incident at Neshabur, Mother's Daughter, or Samba Pa Ti). I also like the fact that the songs I enjoyed the most seem to be the ones written by Carlos Santana himself.
I enjoyed this one much more than I expected. It's not my favourite type of music, but this will get at least 4 stars. I really liked "Walk on By" and "By the time I got to Phoenix".
I enjoyed this one more than I expected. All songs are pretty good and the voices are great. I also found some of the lyrics were pretty good. I'm between 3 and 4 but I'm leaning towards 4.
Very good album. Definitely between 4 and 5 stars. The album is quite long, but the point is that it features three pretty different composers. The tracks by McVie are basically very good songs. The tracks by Buckingham are highly experimental and surprising (and are likely to grow on me). The songs by Nicks are, in my view, great. This would be 5 stars, without a doubt, if all songs were written (and sung) by Stevei Nicks.
After a first quick listen, I found this one kind kind of average (???). Well...I was wrong. After a couple more listenings, this has really grown on me. Songs like "I Hate You", or "Complication" are really enjoyable.
Definitely interesting. Distinct sound and good album. I enjoyed "This is the day", "Uncertain Smile"(nice piano), or "Soul Mining" (probably my favourite). It is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. I typically like long songs, but I found "Giant" (at more than 9 min) is one of the less interesting tracks. So this is preventing this from reaching 4 stars.
I'm not really interested in this style. This may be good (or not). I can listen to this but I'm not very excited. It does not help that it is almost one hour long. Two stars are enough.
It's a very good album. Not really my style though. All songs are solid and the singing is obviously very good. I'm having some doubts between 3 and 4 stars. But, if I'm being honest to my personal taste, this is a perfectly solid 3-star album.
The guitar playing is indeed very good. The covers are very good. However, I'm not a huge fan on blues. This is between 3 and 4 for me. It can't even get close to 5 stars because most of the songs are covers and, to be honest, I don't see this as being as creative, distinctive, or disruptive as I would expect from 5-star albums. These are very good songs (but not originals), very well played. That's it.
Not my style, but I found this pretty good. I liked "Shame on a nigga", "7th Chamber", "C.R.E.A.M.", or "Tearz". This is easily a 3-star album for me.
Very good album (though I think I prefer This Year's Model). Some songs reminded me of Springsteen (Blame it on Cain or Sneaky Feelings). Some favourite tracks: Alison, No Dancing, Less Than Zero, (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes, or Waiting for the End of the World.
Very good album. For some reason, I had never listened to Coldplay with real interest. I found this album very good. I enjoyed "Sparks", "Yellow", "Trouble" (I'd say this was my favourite track), or "High Speed". It's a solid 4.
It's a good album. I particularly like "The teams that Meet in Caffs" (instrumental), "I'm Just Looking", "I Couldn't Help If I Tried", or "Keep It". It's like 3,5 stars for me.
Of all the hip-hop albums I've listened as part of this project, I'd say this is my favourite (probably in some competition with the Beastie Boys). I really like the lyrics and the message. Good to listen to some hip-hop that is not ridiculously misogynistic, or stupidly violent,... also, they show you can have hip-hop songs with other words apart from the "n word". Really liked the overall concept. Songs I enjoyed: "911 is a Joke", "Welcome to the Terrordome", "Burn Hollywood, Burn", "Fear of a Black Planet", "Can't do Nuttin' For Ya, Man!" or "Fight the power" (best track for me; had to listen to "Killing in the name" by RATM after that one). 4 star for me (again, not a big hip-hop fan).
Good album. Not really my style or something I see as very interesting. But it's a good listen. Nice voice and great musicians. I particularly liked "Poverty Train", "Lonely Women", or "Stoned Soul Picnic" or "Woman's Blues". Between 3 and 4 stars.
I guess I've listened to this kind of music too much over the course of my life. I don't think the album is bad. Actually, I think it is quite good, but I don't find it particularly interesting. It's in the 3-star range. Some songs I enjoyed: "Consequence", "Stellar", "Drive", "Clean" (probably my favourite) or "I Miss You" (just a simple song but pretty nice).
I'm not a jazz expert...at all. So I can't really tell how this album compares to other albums in the genre. In any case, I enjoyed the album. It's pretty good and I liked listening to it. Overall, this is a solid 3 stars for me.
Easy listening. Good album. Well produced. But I don't find this particularly interesting or original (I guess that was not the aim either). Overall, between 2 and 3 stars. "Space Cowboy", "Oh, what a world" or "Velvet Elvis" caught my attention. I think this is actually more pop than country. At times, it reminded me of Taylor Swift (but in the less interesting songs by Swift, which are still ok by the way).
Not a bad album. However, I find it kind of repetitive. Apart from that, I think "The The" is over-represented in this project (one album would've been enough). For this reason, and also because I found "Soul Mining" (which came up only a couple of weekss ago) more interesting, I'm giving 2 stars to this one.
Ok... this was interesting. This is definitely a difficult album (especially after a first listen). It is very original and it kind of gets better if you make it through the initial barrier. I think that, just because of its originality, this deserves 3 stars.
At least three great songs: "Imagine" (yes, we've all heard this song too many times, but the point is that it's a great song), "Jealous Guy", and "Gimme some truth" (my favourite). Only based on those songs, this is at least 4 stars. Do we have enough further material to reach 5 stars?
"How do you sleep?" or "I Don't Wanna be a Soldier Mama" are also very good.
"Oh my love" and "How?" are pretty good.
I think "Crippled inside", "It's so Hard", and Oh Yoko!" are ok.
So, overall, a very good album, with some excellent songs, but I'd say this is more in the 4-star range.
