Freak Out!
The Mothers Of Inventionyou can hear how important this album is and it's cool to think form the perspective of the time. that being said most of this album is trolling
you can hear how important this album is and it's cool to think form the perspective of the time. that being said most of this album is trolling
beck has some good ideas and there must be a reason for him being so liked but oh my god i find him so fucking irritating i feel like there's a kid next to me trying to tell me the plot to their favourite video game that they can't remember properly when I listen to this music. for that reason fuck this album its a 1
make metallica cornier and talk about satan more
started off not really clicking with me despite how amazing his voice is and a love for music with similar timbres but by the end of the last track I was in a daze and hadn't realised how moved I was for past however many minutes. Then checking the release date and it was early 90s??? Who the fuck produced this it sounds so crisp and massive. The mixing on this was ahead of its time for sure, ranging formform beutifully crisp sounds of the more stripped down tracks to big soaring ones that almost sound like something that Mike Dean would produce. So sick wtf
better than i thought it would be, for sure enjoyed it more than most springsteen I've heard before. This is all that the midwest emo kids used to have
cmon dog its david bowie and robert fripp
wooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
wayyy better then I remember holy shit this is awesome
ehh? he's just fine, some real cool ideas but it's just kinda annoying and brooding without feeling genuine. killer opening track but overall just mediocre
make metallica cornier and talk about satan more
ok adam it's good
some great tunes but fuck he's one note aye jesus
cool as hell, not as good as yoshimi tho
hell yeah B)
GONNA KICK IT ROOT DOWN
nah fuck this is actually so sweet I love it. in a golden hour of your life and taking the time to recognise that??? yes!!!
god i have no idea how this was as successful as it was. it sounds HARSH
not a huge dylan fan but this one was great, gonna relisten to highway 51 and see if I appreciate it a bit more with more context
cool, not my cup of tea composition-wise, maximalism in rock just sounds really weird to me
you can hear how important this album is and it's cool to think form the perspective of the time. that being said most of this album is trolling
pretty gangstered sounding but anxiety's going ape-mode today so definitely could've enjoyed it more on another day, so in reality like 3 stars but I know it'd be 4 on a good day
there are some truly amazing songs on here. but still feels like an incel in a leather jacket to me a little idk what to say maybe i'll like their other albums more
just sounds a little tinny to me compared to revolver and abbey road, still absolutely killing tho
this was a weird inclusion but interesting to hear. that being said, a lot of ASS songs on here. If you can't play the blues, don't???
woooooooooooo
i like this era of dance music but this sucks straight up
i mean cmoon HE WHO FUCKS NUNS WILL LATER JOIN THE CHURCH
idk I guess I just don't get it, her lyrics are.. good? her songwriting is pretty cool, production is super normal and uninteresting, bad blood is an atrocious song, but some good soundscapes and melodies. Just feels super middle of the road to me I don't understand what the fuss is
a little one note but that note is sooo good it sounds exactly like the album cover
4 and a half would be the go for me, i enjoyed this way more than i thought i would but it still doesn't come close to metallica's disc. for me. still a banger tho and awesome guitar parts
I did really enjoy this, but something about knowing too much about the dunedin sound and the people that inspired it just makes me think about how much of a wanker these people always are. wah wah i'm more artsy than everyone else wahh wahhh. people that do stuff that's a little different and act as though it's wholly unique piss me off
enjoying hearing more sonic youth for sure, didn't enjoy this one as much as I thought I would but I'm pretty sure this'll grow massively on me
not huge on the beginning tracks so never got properly invested in this album but it gets sooo good. I love a little meditative session where the music's about just being, so cute. kanye could've been so much more than what he is now :(
still not quite my cup of tea but I enjoyed it more than most Yes I'd already heard. some really cool passages but doesn't do heaps for me overall
alright sure yea it's good, nice big soaring choruses and sax parts. everyone impersonating springsteen as their version of doing "rock vocals" for the last 40 years has kinda made it sound corny asf tho
just not very good, surface level political observations with none of the grit and anger to make it some kind of a chant like a Public Enemy or RATM. So much of it felt like shitty versions of songs gil scott heron had done better two decades earlier. disappointed cos some of the flows and beats were nice and the heart was in the right place but fuck this album kinda blows
not been a huge neil young fan before now but fuck that was awesome, the two "blues" songs especially were absolutely fucking minted. Only downside is having to listen on youtube and forgetting autoplay was on and getting blasted by black midi when I hadn't realised the album had finished
i will always maintain they have the exact same appeal as AC/DC, songs with great tone that are really fun to chant in a stadium, not much more. this shit just isn't moving idk, maybe i just think the gallaghers are wankers
3 enjoyed myself a lot having a little boogie but there wasn't a whole lot to it and wouldn't have enjoyed it heaps if I wasn't working while listening
nah actually had such a great time listening to this, late night and having a whisky kinda music I love it
not huge on the eagles and this has its issues but fuck when it's good it's GOOOOD
beck has some good ideas and there must be a reason for him being so liked but oh my god i find him so fucking irritating i feel like there's a kid next to me trying to tell me the plot to their favourite video game that they can't remember properly when I listen to this music. for that reason fuck this album its a 1
queen i love her this was great
this grew stale fast lmao but i still had a lot of fun at certain parts
enjoyed this a lot more than i thought I would, there were some really cool musical moments on here, but don't think I'll have much of an urge to return to it. 3.5 stars would be more accurate
some really cool horn layering throughout and some cool wacky synths. I enjoyed myself a lot but if I'm honest with myself that enjoyment definitely came from being able to hear the amount of uppers they were on as opposed to good songwriting and structure. of which there was little...
oh my god I loved this, poppy angst is so so good. Few moments that didn't hold up quite as well but I just had so much fun
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lets get funky :)
oh god i knew one would come up eventually Listening to a zeppelin hit: awesome, groovy, I'm having so much Listening to a zeppelin album: tedious, fatiguing, by the end of it feel like I'm listening to two petulant children scream for attention to drown out one of the nicest rhythm sections in the genre ultimately I just don't get it like everyone else does, they're just good, and the response to any criticism against this band just makes me wanna double down on it cos everyone's so fucking annoying about it that being said it's still like 3 stars of course
i feel like I'm in the most musically-savvy spy movie ever whenever I listen to this album it's so so good. top 3 miles davis for me
best mixed megadeth album by far, but like a lot of their albums is just a little too silly to take the subject matter seriously somtimes
definitely wasn't an album-oriented artist but this is always one where it's gonna make you feel something strong, crazy crazy influence. some of my favourite pac beats on this one as well
everything he touched grooved so hard, and a lot of the production on his albums sounds so crisp for the time
I mean it's not bad but they were a bit fucken late to the party with this sound lmao
nirvana have grown on me so much in recent years but this album I don't think ever will. I love how On a Plain and Something in the Way sound in this style but everything else is super grating to me. The Man Who Sold the World does sound good but I prefer the Bowie version a lot more. God I wanna like this as much as everyone else
this whole thing is making me realise I absolutely adore neil young, haven't heard a bad album yet
they just killed it every time, a lot more melancholy sounding than expected
wish this era of music clicked for me more, but still a fun album with some great high points but generally not for me, maybe I'll get there in future
really glad I went into this with no knowledge this was so much fun, awesome blend of punk, new wave, and just that general wacky shit associated with talking heads etc. really enjoyable
he actually cannot make bad music
if I'm in the mood for it this album makes me absolutely transcend, so good for so many different occasions
enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would but also I guess I was raised on this kinda music, unfinished sympathy bumped it up a star then the song after immediately brought it back down lol
the bee gees are overhated and have some great tunes so I wanted to like this but oh my GOD it was SO DRAB, it was worse than watching paint dry it was like watching old wall paper peel. A couple tunes at the start were pretty good but the intstrumentation is just rubbish, the strings make the music feel like it's been dropped in a muddy puddle. The song about Israel was an interesting one too lmao
I'm having a great time with all this mum rock tbh. didn't think I'd love it so much
grew on me after a few songs, really fun guitar tone that added a lot to songs that are otherwise not super interesting
wow holy shit, I thought I'd probably enjoy it but this is PHENOMENAL, the spaciest smoothest sax ever over classic motown grooves. So good
pretty fun, but glam just wasn't THAT interesting musically
i think i had fun, so, nice
didn't fully get the hype when I listened to it first years ago but then I got good headphones and could hear Jamerson's basslines, then learned more context, now it's one of my favourites lol
were never my favourite but when I do listen I just get lost in it it's so well done
acid casualty music is my favourite music
i love him so much but Aretha Franklin really dookied all over any chance of me ever enjoying the original version of respect
cmon it's awesome
little boogie :) wahooo
idk how I'd never actually ended up listening to a Janis Joplin album but it was pretty much as expected. Nice blues arrangements with some hearty screeching, always sick but wish there was a bit more musical versatility
this is the best one straight up it just takes u out of the world and puts u in vast expanses of ocean and space just with music. so fucking good
wow u know what make this fantastic era-defining album better? dotting a bunch of garbage inbetween all the amazing tracks and padding out the runtime to 2 hours for no reason
nah this was wicked, wayyy better than expected
never listened all the through before, the most Blur-like Gorillaz album. But that's a pretty cool thin, just some of the songs were pretty irritating to listen to on a stressful work day, but that's also my fault
john lydon consistently surprises me with how many great tracks I've never heard of from him, not that I knew that many to begin with. But shit this was great, dragged here and there but I had lots of fun so 5 stars
the beatles had such a strong "losing my mind from acid" vibe at this point in their career that really doesn't sit well with me on this album. I like it on Magical Mystery tour but on this one I feel like I'm being held hostage and fed tabs by Charles Manson's cult. But also it's got shit like while my guitar gently weeps and influential asf stuff so liek it's still a good album just weak for the beatles imo
fuck I really did hate them back in the day but they're just such classic little cute indie music where u imagine some cringe ass romantic gesture happening to it. It's CUTE and people that don't like it are AFRAID!
this was lovely, lots of influences from places I wuite enjoy. Nothing too special about the songwriting, but some really nice soundscapes
I have a lot more nostalgia for this era of soft kind of nothing-rock from singer songwriters of the late 90s and early 2000s than I thought. 5/5 for the soft cell cover alone tho holy shit what a TUNE
just really not much there. Don't like the lyrics, they're super stale. Sound of the music is nice enough I guess idk it's pretty boring. They are to radiohead what norah jones is to traditional jazz singing except norah jones could play the traditional stuff too and coldplay can't do radiohead
just gorgeous
started off not really clicking with me despite how amazing his voice is and a love for music with similar timbres but by the end of the last track I was in a daze and hadn't realised how moved I was for past however many minutes. So sick wtf
let's fucking gooooo I find this type of blues cool but really boring and the rhythms on this spice it up the perfect amount. Creamed my knickers for this one for sure
Just another CCR album. Cool as fuck but tinny and grating sounding if you're not in the mood for it lol. Luckily I stopped it and listened to it later when I wanted to and had a great time
just doesn't really get better than this aye
I don't really get the big deal with elton john but I did have fun so 5 stars who cares
eric clapton is so unbelievably overrated. That being said, some fun songs on here of course, he wasn't famous for NO reason. I think the novelty of this sound was one of the biggest things it had going for it and that most of this album is a little boring
cmon its just the fucking best
not as good as with ry cooder but man this guy just loves to have a jam
knew that the exclusively classic rock obsessed saddos would hate this album without thought so was gonna give it a 5 anyway to spite them but it actually deserves it too so a double win
kinda annoying lol but some cool bits
i mean come on
classic bowie but particularly sax heavy lets gooo
when I'm not in the mood for it it's annoying asf but when I am in the mood for it it's so much fun he such great energy
the fun songs were a lot of fun but the early synth sound stuff always drags a bit for me. But still had lots of fun and super infulential
A big surprise how much I enjoyed this god damn!! I loved all the dance elements to this and ended up listening to all the bonus tracks and remixes on the deluxe version. also introduced me to paul oakenfold properly which is awesome, only knew him from a The Streets song reference lol
First time I've listened to her since actually experiencing heartbreak and it's definitely a lot better lmao, not her best work tho
Sent me listening to like 3 of their other albums afterwards it's just so much funnn
1 cos researching the artist they sound like an annoying asshole and this album is such mediocre 80s pop music that them being a dick immediately brings it way down. Them claiming this was the most important album since Sgt Peppers is so funny lmao
eh it's fine I don't think they've ever been for me but a pretty cool atmosphere building, just not an atmosphere I care for
I'd listened before and not cared for it so I was shocked at how much I absolutely adored this album this time through. Just such stirring rises and falls of beautfilly orchestrated music accompanying such vivid yet cryptic poetry is just awesome. I get it now lol
not sure of Pixies could do any wrong back in the day everything they made was so genuine it's awesome. Unencumbered creativity that makes you love the songs even if they aren't necessarily pleasing to your ear initially. Glad to have pulled it back into the rotation when assigned this album
turns out I had heard a LOT more of this album than what I thought (which was none), it's played in every second hand store I've ever been in I swear. It sounds phenomenal when it's not coming out of their tinny speakers though. Just as beautiful as I thought it would be, this is the blueprint for songwriters for a very very good reason, it's just everything you need from a good song, every time.
Fela's the goat no question. Ginger Bakers drums did more for me on this than I expected, they worked well. Fela's band has always been killer tight but the production for the time was really really good for a live album, a lot of shitty sounding ones going round those days
I really want to like John Lee Hooker as I've enjoyed small bits of his sound and music but I've always felt his albums dragged or stayed on one vibe too long. This was finally the one, I thought it was awesome, super glad
was very excited for this to end tbh
I love Brazilian music but the instrumentation on this is just not for me unfortunately. That being said the good definitely outweighs the bad, but I found the opening track really irritating for some reason
I've always figured I'd find this overrated. I did. It's still 5 stars cmon.
grew on me over a lot of years and now I just fucking get it. I think when people talk about this album they don't specify enough how psychedelic this album is instead of jazzy. This just takes you to weird weird places it's so cool, I really think maybe Miles Davis couldn't do wrong. In music that is.
I've heard this so much from a flatmate blasting it way too loud but hearing through headphones this was fucking awesome, like I knew it was good but the jamminess of it is just so much fun
I expected to enjoy this based on what I'd heard of her. I didn't expect to recognise almost every single song she's inescapable and so so good
This is not to say that frank zappa wasn't clever or funny because he was, but he wasn't close to as funny and clever as he thought he was
knew it would be good but holy shiiiiiiit this was amazing
The Band are just so so so good, like come on, cool ass folky songs with killer instrumentation? Sick asf
lmao this might be the most fun I've had so far this whole project I just had a blast. Except that weird final patriotic song that was weird but I'm pretending it didn't happen
5 out of 5 for the swag but obviously not all the songs hold up as well as the hits. but Gangsta Gangsta makes this perfect on its own
awesome addition to this era of punk. Probably the closest thing to bad brains I've heard without it being bad brains. AND I FUCKING LOVE BAD BRAINS!!!!!!
I have no idea why I put off listening to Pulp properly for so long. In my opinion, a far far stronger album than Blur and Oasis ones but not the moving powerhouse singles so not as many get drawn in, but you're blessed if you do give them a proper go
Didn't know what to expect here but absolutely loved this. The exact folky vibe that I love and the exact kind of pyschy/jazzy/funky guitar tones that I'm into on the more upbeat tracks, super cool definitely listening many more times
never really gave aerosmith a proper shot but I should've known I'd enjoy this this much just based on how much I love the start of Dazed and Confused. Awesome album just nothing but fun the whole way through, even if it's a little too horny
I don't think this album clicks for me like it does for other, but I can absolutely see why it hits so hard for those people that do get it. Very ahead of its time at parts in terms of the atmosphere it created, and pretty cool someone leaning into more atmospheric music during a very songwritey era
He's never clicked like he seems to for everyone else but that doesn't mean it's not still awesome
not quite bjork, still 5 stars
this was awesome lmao
awesome, stunning, gorgeous, amazing, left me with a strange need to listen to kraftwerk
IM YOUR pushermaaaan
had some really cool parts and some parts that felt like absolute wank but given the time it came out that's fair enough
Never gave any of her albums a front to back listen and now I'm gonna do all of them this was so much fun. Dated but in the best way possible
I feel like I've often overlooked just how polished and noisy this was for the time it came out. Obviously there were others doing similar things, but this is a sound that we take for granted so much nowadays that it feels easy to forget this was so special
think this might be my favourite I've heard of theirs so far (have listened but not in years). Never been big on Zeppelin (compared to most of their psycho fans) and this brought up my opinions on their music which is awesome cause I like liking things. This has not, however, changed my opinion that their musical career peaked with their first song
I mean is Morrisey the wankiest frontman ever and really difficult to listen to for a full album? Yea for sure. But other than him every Smiths album absolutely bangs and the bass tone on this album is so gorgeous
It's a shame most people hear Heaven or Las Vegas first since it sets the standard so high for their other albums but there's something so fun about their one of a kind sound melding with more conventional songwriting devices that make this a super super fun listen for me :)
he always has some duds in my opinion but that's true for so many in that transition between the late 80s and early 90s. and when an Ice Cube song hits it HITS
not too sure why this is their big one everyone raves about but it was great, I don't know if any other act has grown on me as much as arcade fire considering how much i used to not like it. They manage to really gently weave in intense emotion when u least expect it which i find great
no song makes me feel like I'm on drugs as much as the big crescendo in Epitaph what a goated album
I've heard this blasting a lot while growing up while trying to sleep in on a Saturday morning after dad decided he was going to go to town with his power tools and speaker setup. It sounds a lot more enjoyable now when I've chosen to listento it lol
Liked this wayyyy more than I thought I would, thought it'd just be cool songwriting but the amount of different styles and themes across this album while still remaining super cohesive is fantastic. Cool asf
This is what plays in the brain of a child when you say the term heavy metal and honestly that's sort of super endearing lol. Lost one star because the name made me think this would be an early all-black hardcore punk band and it was disappointing finding that wasn't the case
The imagery and name of this band has never made them feel real to me they feel made up, listening to this album has only solidified these feelings for me, kinda awesome
They made a lot of really boring shite music after this and it really pisses me off that this album really is good enough for me to be all good with them coasting for the next couple decades (even tho a lot of people claim they still like the music)
Giving this a 5 before I listen because Fats Domino doesn't have any misses they're all so fun, but also because I can never find the exact version of these old albums that were all just collections of old standards. I'm sure the one I listened to had some of the right songs, if the correct album didn't have "Ain't That a Shame" then the wrong album's on this list anyway!!!!
have left this to the wayside a bit so fairly sure this was assigned to me very close to christmas (not sure if that's done on purpose) so annoyed with myself that I didn't listen then I didn't realise all these songs were released like this we listened to Annie Lennox's christmas album instead and it sucked!! But yea all of these songs are classics and are amazing and that piece of shit Phil Spector can rot in hell for eternity!!! :)
This era of Bowie is unbeatable, like most of them to be fair. A few songs I'm not as hot on but there's something so captivating about his music even when it's not your favourite ones
This was really weird and unexpected but I love crooning so 5 stars hell yea
Before I listen to this I am writing down that I've always thought this is one of the ugliest album covers ever made. After listening, that was as good as expected, very
This is better than Thriller
I should never have listened to Say Yes before the rest of his stuff cos the rest of it's good but not in the same way and it took me way too long to appreciate it. That being said this album is gorgeous and the heavier moments come at perfect times and Say Yes as a closer is just stunning
If Ween had made a 70s blues style album it would've sounded kinda like this, so that's good cos Ween is sick
HOW have I not listened all the way through this one before, the first half isn't my favourite Pixies but the back end of this is LOADED. creamed my knickers to this one fr
it simply IS that good unfortunately
Beach House have really sneakily become one of my favourite bands of all time and this album is so so good getting to hear them a little bit earlier on a litte rougher around the edges and adhering to a sound that was less distinct but they were still capable of producing soundscapes like Silver Soul that showed what they'd go on to make later in their career. Just really touching and amazing and lush and emotional
Absolute classic cmon, and assigned to me on a day of beautiful weather lets go
When I read the name I thought I would enjoy it a lot less than I did. After reading who they'd worked with I thought I'd enjoy it a lot more than I did. Overall pretty good lol
can't believe I've never heard this before, stunning
I think Paul Simon is finally growing on me I really liked this one, except for the one about cars that was annoying asf
Thought I'd kinda hate this because I find their hits annoying but the deeper cuts are great, dripping with grumpy old man irony, and thankfully some songs not sung by Sting and his weird asf semi-Caribbean accents
silly music, awesome
I don't think the gimmick was conducive to a good cohesive project, but if it forced people to respect that both parts of the duo were integral to how amazing they were then I am cool with it. Great album track by track for the most part, overall not quite there but still awesome and spawned some crazy big hits, could listen to Roses and The Way You Move every day and love it
his best one
idk what I expected but that wayy exceeded it that was such a fun album, definitely revisiting
Every song sounded like one I thought I knew but realised I didn't, weird experience. Cool album though
man their early shit is weird, idk I kinda had fun I guess but a lot of this was just not it they didn't know what they were doing yet
Real talk a lot of the sounds on this are a style of dance music production that I don't like, the harsh sounding stuff doesn't work for me in this context. But otherwise an absolutely SMOKING HOT album, so good and they just got better and better
As expected despite not being sure how many I knew it turned out I'd heard pretty much all of these before, a full album of hits which is always pretty cool. A little tacky tbh but I think it was seen so at the time too tho so whatever it's fun
why is this in here hjahahahaha the most one hit wonder band of all time. Strange dudes tho so the album was fun I guess
I've always found The Who to be made up of talented and fascinating musicians, but I've never found any of their songwriting compelling. There are moments where it comes together to sound great but it'll be a minute of a 6 minute song, really hoping it'll click one day but currently to me it's a lot of awesome bells and whistles attached to a piece of plywood. That being said, a live album is a way better way to experience this setup and Townshend's playing on this album absolutely rips a lot of the time so fuck it, I had fun
the only one so far that I'm not even revisiting because I listen to this album so often. This could easily be the greatest hip hop album of all time, its an effortlessly high class and standard debut that maintains the raw energy that comes from fresh new artists. Hearing lyrical comradery on this level had only been touched on at this point and in my opinion this is the first album where it truly felt as though every member knew each other like family and that's where the cohesiveness came from. This album has everything you could want from a hip hop album, storytelling, bragging, INCREDIBLE flows that chop and change in heart beat. I could almost listen to this album not knowing the words and enjoy just as much simply from how they interlock with the beats. RZA's (and others') beats on this album are also what make this so special. While working with elements of the rhythmically infectious bouncing beats and jazz samples of other boom bap artists, RZA managed to expertly turn up the harshness and darkness of the sound, while still having the finesse to create emotionally potent tracks like Tearz. Beyond this, this being the genesis for countless amazing solo careers and completely changing the face of what rap and hip hop could be, and from the sound, seemingly without even trying. I've always credited this to RZA having huge plans for the group but not being transparent with all the members lol. Truly a genius, who just happened to be surrounded by a bunch more geniuses. In a way, thank god no one gave a shit about Staten Island so we could be given this album. One of the best of all time.
LETS FUCKING GOOOO NEVER LISTENED FULLY BUT THIS WAS JUST AS GOOD AS I HOPED FATHER AND SON IS ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN
horny guy huh
just absolutely fucking phenomenal, stupidest thing the beatles ever did was ignoring these songwriting ideas
I think missy could've made some real proper all time greats but was held back to some extent by the industry expecting her to be tied into the mellow rnb side of things. This is almost there and has tracks that would be at home on an all time great hip hop album but the whole tracklist doesn't quite get there and that's super dissapointing to me because Missy had the ability if she'd been allowed the freedom that other artists were at the time. That being said this album is still a great time and a really enjoyable time capsule for this period
Kraftwerk are too hyped up based on how influential they were, which is not to say I don't love them to bits, but rather that people constantly go into their music expecting their minds to be blown and that's very unlikely to happen. What's actually awesome about them is how weird and silly they were all while grooving super hard. I'm so glad they're still touring because I think it was seeing them live that made me just get it, these guys are so silly and German and I think that's so great
The only album from his crazy 5 album run that I hadn't listened front to back yet. Firstly, Boogie on Reggae Woman is one of the greatest songs ever made with one of the synth bass parts ever written. Beyond that, I'm constantly shocked at how all the songs sound like Stevie songs but there's still ALWAYS fresh ideas. They Won't Go When I Go is such a moving piece after such a funky album and I love when he lets the more gospel side of his music out. Not all of his music reaches me emotionally as much as it seems to reach others but his passion for music and his ability to make that passion shine through in how it sounds is completely undeniable and lets all of his music grow on you in different ways until you can't live without it. To me he is the epitome of what music means to the world and I want an international day of mourning when he passes
There's really nothing quite like what they do, and I've always loved their ability to know their place in the general world of hip hop and they play into that. They're silly white dudes who lean into that aspect in their music at the same time as paying homage to the the genre as a whole. A perfect example of skill and self awareness meshing to create something wholly unique, so sick
I feel like I normally wouldn't be so down for this but I had a blast listening lmao great way to start a monday morning. Bit of grooving, great voice, the cover of Heaven was absolutely killer, all round cool asf
lmao that was a real wacky inclusion on the list it just kinda sounded like some guys at the pub. But I do like going to the pub. But also I don't think I'd rate going to the pub as a top 1001 musical experience of all time.
Unfortunate that I'm a bit lazy with listening to music that isn't on spotify because Joni Mitchell is one of the best things to ever happen in music and I've loved everything I've heard but I've barely listened. Been in love with anything I've heard from her since listening to her album with Charles Mingus, she's just so creative with the most beautiful voice ever, really don't have much to do but just gush lmao
I listen to this at least once a week because she is the greatest person to ever pick up a microphone except for maybe Etta James. It'll be hard to include an Aretha album here that isn't 5 stars for me lol
Man so much fun I love early punk stuff. I also (due to alphabetical seating) sat behind someone with a The Slits patch on her jacket for every exam I did in high school and it's very satisfying to finally give a proper listen and enjoy it. Finding out they didn't really know how to play the instruments makes sense lol but they made so much with so little at their disposal and I think that's the absolute pinnacle of what music can, and is supposed to be. I may not come back to this album too much but it easily gets 5 stars for being a representation of why I love music so much.
This was great, this kind of class of classic 70s and 80s songwriters were the exact kind of albums I was trying to force myself to get around to listening to wen I started this. This was great and it's always awesome to see how political music in the states progressed, Everybody Loves Me, Baby instantly went into the regular rotation, great song the still pulls on the melodic stylings of the decades prior but in a completely new context in terms of production and songwriting.
Thought this was gonna be perfectly rated as soon as it started, and I was right. I absolutely adore Afro-Cuban jazz but have found it a little hard to get into and learn about and finding out about one of the more seminal records of the genre through here is just awesome. Finding out that Cannonball Adderly was part of making this album as well makes sense as to why I loved this one in particular so much he's easily my favourite alto player as every single time he plays he exudes so much joy, and is the best possible reminder that, at its core, jazz isn't some stuffy music snob genre and it's actually about smiling and dancing and connecting through the music you play. And honestly that kind of sentiment feels intrinsic to this album, that the musicians would have known was not destined for the success of the jazz stars but was made for the love of the genres and cultures that were brought together by people that simply love music
whatever intangible element of frank ocean's music makes people obsess over it so much I do not get at all but like it's still all really good, just not very emotionally poignant for me
I mean you can just tell how much of a joy they would have been to listen to when they first came out in the 60s and that being so apparent all these years later speaks for itself
kinda think most of his music is too samey but he's got a lot of energy so it's fun to hear him perform anyway
god what a pretentious loser I actually can't stand listening to this guy. Look at me I'm so cool I'm a soulful huge rockstar. No you aren't!!! He had mild success and can play guitar and has a good voice and wrote the least authentic, most generic and meaningless ass songs and just started acting like he was Prince. Prince already behaved like a weird egotistical loser if you ask me, he just had the music to back it up. God idk why i hate this guy so much but fuck him. lenny crapshitz hehe
