1001 Albums Summary

Strong start! Live album #1, wonder how many of these there will be among the 1,001? Feels like the musicianship and performances captured here are at a higher level to be considered one of the all-time best recordings.

Classic album. Not something I listen to regularly, but every now and then these songs hit the mood just right.

RIP Ozzy

One of the greatest pieces of music ever created: written, performed, and produced. This is music that instantly changes or enhances my mood. It's relaxing, sexy, introspective, and always cool. Just like Miles.

Not a fan.

YES! Amazing album by a musical genius. I listen to Thundercat maybe too much. But as a bass player, it's incredible to hear what he can do.

Classic, but nothing I’d listen to on a regular basis.

Never heard of this artist before, glad ti expand my listening, but not sure this is one I’d consider essential listening.

Love it - classic Texas blues

I am instantly transported to my Sophomore year of college, playing Streetfighter on Sega in dorm rooms while drinking bad light beer. Aside from the nostalgia, it's a great album, full of rage and disillusionment. ONe of my top 10 rock albums of all time.

Early college memories, Kristin's fave. A classic 90s album that is probably on par with Carole King's "Tapestry."

Classic. One of the best rap albums ever.

One of the greatest protest albums of all time. Funky as hell too. Makes me remember hanging out with Steve and Justin.

Classic NOLA

Shaped my musical evolution as much as any jazz classic. This goes into my Top Ten easy.

The GOAT! Best album from a WuTang Clan member.

I had not heard this before and really like it.

One of the best MCs ever. RIP Guru

A trippy masterpiece I need to put back into rotation immediately.

One of the greatest albums ever made.

One of my all-time favorite albums. Listened to it after a week in Vegas and had been up for close to 40 hours. Trippy

Great memories of listening to this on vinyl, sitting on the floor, alone. Funkiest album MJ ever did.

Loved it when I first heard it, and still appreciate the politics, but it hasn't held up all that well musically. And Michael Franti really went off the deep end.

Memories of driving on weekends with my dad, with S&G playing on the car stereo.

Mingus don’t fuck around!

Nothing was cooler and edgier than blasting NWA in the suburbs.

This is one of the first rap albums I ever heard.

OMg the greatest fucking shit ever. Is that enough to not deactivate me? 🙄

Good singalong tunes

Not my cup of tea.

Odd, almost like a soundtrack to a strange, quirky movie. Small bursts of 70s rock fuzz every now and then, too. Not bad, but don’t think I’ll listen again.

Steve Albini was a mad genius

Not my cup of tea

So relaxing and warm, like a nice mug of coffee on a cold morning.

One of the great albums of 1991! Classic!

GNR opened the door that Nirvana blew open, exposing glam rock as terrible music that is a huge waste of time. They may have started as a hair band, but quickly showed they were badasses with actual musical talent.

A bonafide classic rock album.

Meh. 80s

One of my favorite rap albums of all time, and my #1 of the Wu-Tang solo albums.

I need to give this more listens. Wilco has never been a fave, but too many great people love them to ignore, especially this album.

Classic jazz album

Pure 80s

One of my favorite rap albums. All time

Little maudlin, no?

80s island beat dreck with a very capable singer.

Love this album!

One of my all time favorite albums!

An all time favorite album

Interesting, want to hear more

Love everything she’s done and would love to hear more.

Perhaps his best album. Definitely an all-time fave of mine. KL is the GOAT.

Classic 90s rock, up there with the Seattle bands for sure.

Top 10 rock albums of all time for me! Funny how this album cover was so controversial. Although it probably would be again in Trump’s ‘Murica.

Nice listenable pop

I did not listen to this album.

One of the most overrated singers of all time. Her voice is so grating.

Not his best but still better than the rest

Her voice is as gorgeous as she is.

Meh

He has been under my radar for so long until I finally figured out it was his song that was featured in “Good Fellas.” Such an amazing album with great grooves and melodies.

The best thrash metal album ever and one of my all-time favorite albums period. 🤘

A true giant of jazz.

The BEST metal album ever.

Pop. Meh.

Classic!

Sounds a bit crude, but that’s the appeal.

Sounds a bit crude, but that’s the appeal.

An acquired taste for sure, not always what I want to listen to, but a truly unique and always interesting artist.

Classic. Reminds me of going to high school.

Used well in the Michael Mann movie “Ali”

Chicago!

Not available on Apple Music

Appreciate it but not an album I listen to often or much at all.

An American classic and a truly pivotal moment in my life when I discovered it

Nah

All of the Beastie Boys albums are awesome, and this one holds a special place for me. I had the cassette which was red like a 70s tape.

Not their best, but some great songs on this sprawling album.

Classic but meh

Raw like cocaine straight from Bolivia. WuTang is for the children!

So funky! Always a great Summer album.

Emotional masterpiece

His best album. In your face beats, distortion, and arrogance. He pushes every envelope and steps over every line and it all works. Genius art from a truly disturbed person.

Slice of Americana I spose

America’s greatest living songwriter! Classic album.

The Beatles’ “weed” album. Great melodies and timeless music to be enjoyed and interpreted forever.

One of the purest voices ever. Beautiful

Sounds like a bad comedy album. Terrible. Doesn’t belong anywhere near this list.

Yeah no

A true artist.

This is a sad attempt at relevance from an aging pop star. Hardly worth inclusion in this list.

One of the greatest albums of all time! Electronic anxiety at the beginning of a new millennium perfectly captured the sense of unease and trepidation then. With 9/11 and the Iraq war still to come, this album expertly explores the unknown and mysterious feeling going into a new era.

Top album? Really?

YYZ is awesome. First heard it played by PRIMUS. They suck.

Sure, I guess

A one hit wonder band whose lone hit was a cover. Not a top 1001 album.

The greatest guitar player ever. And one of his best albums.

One of the greatest voices ever. Swagger and swing personified.

Not my cup of overly dramatic tea.

“One of the world’s biggest rock bands in the world.”

When you’re in a specific mood, a little classic mellow Elvis hits the spot.

Never knew Luther Vandross sang backup on this album!

Meh

Absolute legend

Sad that we don’t learn the lessons from the Bush administration GD calls out and are repeating so many mistakes for the second time with Trump. Plus new insane corruption!

WTF? This doesn’t belong on this list. Someone lost a bet or is trolling everybody.

All time classic album.

Classic REM album, but was never a big fan.

Holds up pretty well

Interesting. Not sure it’s a top album, but worth a listen.

Time capsule stuff

🤘

🤘

Not my personal fave, but I see why people really like this band.

I mean, it’s ok.

Hard to believe we now live in a world without Dolly.

The Beatles are damn near classical music at this point.

No Woman No Cry is one of my all-time favorite songs.

Kenny is legend

Awesome album from awesome musicians

This is fucking weird.

This is when we all started thinking Kanye wasn’t all there mentally. Great rapper and producer, but a little “off.”

Pass

Classic rap. Just saw them open for Erykah Badu, it was great! Legendary hip-hop

90s nostalgia for sure, but it pretty much holds up 30 years later.

One of my favorite Miles albums. Calming and interesting, reflective and inspiring.

First REM album I heard. I’ve grown to like it more and more the older I get.

Really? This is the Halloween theme, and while it’s great for a horror movie, top album? Hardly.

Can’t listen, not available in the US.

Never got into this genre of music. Well done, but just not my preference.

One of the greatest albums by The Boss.

Fishbone rules! Greatest band that never got the commercial success they deserved, but they are highly respected as major influences of so many great musicians.

No brainer: a punk classic
