american dream by LCD Soundsystem

Loved this. Such a rich tapestry of genres, all done to perfection

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
Aug 04 2025

Really like the raw noise-rock sound. Can see it's roots spreading to both grunge and shoegaze. Reminds me our early Hole and Smashing Pumpkins, but also Sin-é era Jeff Buckley.

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
Aug 05 2025

Really well rounded and accomplished for this style of music. Perhaps not as catchy as some soul hits, but more substance too them.

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Aug 06 2025

Really varied album. Every song is different to the last. Prefer the slow Trip Hop tracks.

Heroes by David Bowie
Aug 07 2025

Half rock album, half art project. All excellent

Ten by Pearl Jam
Aug 08 2025

One of those albums I always start of enjoying but it gets very samey and by the time I get to the end of the ironically named 9 minute 'Release' I'm begging for exactly that. Favourite track: Evenflow

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
Aug 11 2025

Not my cup of tea but you can recognise it is a masterpiece of it's genre.

Lust For Life by Iggy Pop
Aug 12 2025

Another triumph of the Berlin era. You can very much hear the Bowie influences but it is lifted up by Iggy's unique vocals.

What is this doing in the list? By this point it was clear U2 had lost their unique voice and this is bog standard fayer.

Music From The Penguin Cafe by Penguin Cafe Orchestra
Aug 14 2025

Really surprising. Like a well performed score from an obscure soviet cartoon.

1984 by Van Halen
Aug 18 2025

Not bad for hair metal. Stupid childish lyrics but the addition of synths makes the music interesting.

In Utero by Nirvana
Aug 19 2025

Classic. Grunge's high water mark.

Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper
Aug 20 2025

Not his most recognisable hits but proves there is a lot more to his art than the loud public persona.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Aug 21 2025

Very good. The one metal band I actually enjoy consistently.

Inspiration Information by Shuggie Otis
Aug 22 2025

A real find. Had never heard of the album or artist but really enjoyed it.

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
Aug 26 2025

Musically good and I get that a lot of the lyrics are from a character, not a person. But the misogyny and homophobia is still a challenge.

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Aug 28 2025

Absolute classic. Would be on my 101 list, never mind 1001.

Moving Pictures by Rush
Aug 29 2025

I'm sure it is a great example of this style of prog rock but I just don't get it.

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Sep 01 2025

Brilliant. Probably the best Hip Hop album I've listened to.

Van Halen by Van Halen
Sep 02 2025

Not bad. Better than the other Van Halen album on the list simply because it isn't so childish.

The Score by Fugees
Sep 03 2025

Ah this takes me back. Great in most places but is guilty of some filler. The songs that follow the style of rap with sung choruses seem to be the best.

Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris
Sep 04 2025

Don't get how an album with only mild acclaim makes this list. It has a little more musical depth than a lot of country music, but is otherwise typical country fayre.

At Budokan by Cheap Trick
Sep 05 2025

Great live rock performance, let down by a poor quality recording. The Beatlemania type screaming from the crowd is weird.

My Generation by The Who
Sep 08 2025

A step forward for rock but still heavily influenced by 60s harmonised guitar pop in places.

Blur by Blur
Sep 09 2025

Much better than I remember as a teen. Very multilayered.

The Slider by T. Rex
Sep 10 2025

Excellent. A band at the peak of their powers.

The Real Thing by Faith No More
Sep 11 2025

Very good. Variety in style from Funk Rock to Heavy Metal.

OK Computer by Radiohead
Sep 15 2025

One of my all time top 10. Still an absolute classic.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Sep 16 2025

One of the greatest albums of all time.

Imperial Bedroom by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Sep 19 2025

Gorgeous album. Poetic lyrics and an ambitious sound scape.

Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves
Sep 24 2025

Pretty good. Very chillded

Killing Joke by Killing Joke
Sep 25 2025

Not perfect in its own right, but you can trace so many genres back to this sound. Goth Rock, industrial Rock, Grunge and Shoegaze.

Live At Leeds by The Who
Sep 29 2025

Exceptional live album and they'd only get better.

Diamond Life by Sade
Sep 30 2025

Really good. Very smooth both musically and as a vocal performance.

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Oct 01 2025

Much better than I thought it was when released.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Oct 03 2025

Genre defining classic. Runs on a little long but still a great.

Blood On The Tracks by Bob Dylan
Oct 06 2025

In a body of work that I'm not usually fusses about, this is a great exception.

Purple Rain by Prince
Oct 07 2025

Surely the best title track of all time.

Arular by M.I.A.
Oct 08 2025

Great elements but not sure I enjoy the whole.

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Oct 09 2025

Classic. Three huge hits but there is so much more beyond it.

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Oct 10 2025

Great find. Bits of Tori Amos, PJ Harvey and Alanis Morrisette but quite clearly her own amalgamated style.

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Oct 14 2025

Haven't heard this in years but it quickly came flooding back. Great album.

Fuzzy Logic by Super Furry Animals
Oct 17 2025

Decent but nothing special.

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Oct 21 2025

Can't understand the singing in their native Songhai but musically alone it is great

Triangle by The Beau Brummels
Oct 22 2025

Innovative psychedelic album.

Remedy by Basement Jaxx
Oct 23 2025
In Our Heads by Hot Chip
Oct 24 2025

Catch electronica. Well written songs.

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Oct 28 2025

Doesn't hit the heights of Queen is Dead but still very good.

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Oct 29 2025
Foxbase Alpha by Saint Etienne
Oct 30 2025

Decent mix of indie dance and fresh pop.

Headquarters by The Monkees
Oct 31 2025

Much more mature and dark than I expected. Not just kiddy pop.

Franz Ferdinand by Franz Ferdinand
Nov 04 2025

A very consistent style. Well delivered

Talk Talk Talk by The Psychedelic Furs
Nov 07 2025

Decent post punk effort

Back In Black by AC/DC
Nov 10 2025

Classic. I'm not always into hard work rock but love this.

The Renaissance by Q-Tip
Nov 12 2025

All right but doesn't seem worthy of this list.

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure
Nov 18 2025

Such a step forward in one year from their debut it is incredible. Much more musical depth and their signature sound, at least for this early era, shines though.

En-Tact by The Shamen
Nov 19 2025

All individual tracks are great, but due to its length and all the remixes, it gets repetitive in the end.

Disintegration by The Cure
Nov 20 2025

Greatest. Album. Of. All. Time

Nevermind by Nirvana
Nov 24 2025

An all time classic. Grunge's high point.

Harvest by Neil Young
Nov 25 2025

Really good.

Nov 27 2025

Terrible Coldplay imitation. Terrible immigration of a terrible band.

Rio by Duran Duran
Dec 16 2025
Aja by Steely Dan
Dec 19 2025
Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins
Dec 23 2025

Classic album that contains my favourite ever song, Disarm.

L'Eau Rouge by The Young Gods
Dec 24 2025

Surprisingly good for a french language industrial rock record.

John Prine by John Prine
Dec 31 2025

Album of two halves. First half great protest songs, second half country slop.

Low-Life by New Order
Jan 01 2026

Great midpoint album in the band's career. The synth dance is clearer than ever but still driven by Hooky's brilliant atmospheric bass lines.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Jan 06 2026

Peak stones. Hard to believe this is 55 years old.

LP1 by FKA twigs
Jan 14 2026
american dream by LCD Soundsystem
Jan 28 2026

Loved this. Such a rich tapestry of genres, all done to perfection

Arrival by ABBA
Feb 02 2026

Not a big Abba fan but you can't argue with the number of big hits on this album.

Odelay by Beck
Feb 03 2026

Classic of the vaguely-folkish-alterna-rock genre.

Roots by Sepultura
Feb 05 2026
Murmur by R.E.M.

One of the greatest debut albums of all time.

Berlin by Lou Reed
Feb 20 2026
Drunk by Thundercat
Feb 25 2026

Feb 26 2026

Just because you can play all sorts of instruments doesn't mean you should.
