I didn't even know this was on the list until today. It's essentially a rap album with some slight rock elements. It's not particularly noteworthy outside of that, with mediocre flows and lyricism that lack the poetry of the best rap while also lacking the edge associated with both genres. This is not an important record and doesn't belong on the list, as evidenced by how I didn't even know it was here before today.
Sometimes you enjoy an album but only really like the single. And that's okay
Not a bad album for this genre but I don't like the whole genre. 2 stars or D+.
Ok in an ok kind of way it passed without much impression.
This was great. Most everything here is such a groove. I'll own that there's a fair bit of nostalgia here for me, this is one of my old man's favorite albums. This was on a lot in the car growing up. So wonderful to come back and listen fully as an adult
nada me agradou nem minimamente
This would be so up my alley as a 10 year old. Sadly now I find it inoffensive but boring. Giving it 3 to neg the haters but in reality I couldn’t finish. RYM: N Saved a song: N
Pleasantly surprised by the funky grooves and catchy lyrics.
Runnin around robbin banks all whacked out on scooby snacks!
Just really plain and unimaginative. I've heard hundreds of songs that sound like this. Favorite Songs: Smoke 'Em, Scooby Snacks
I am not a fan of the rock/rap mix on this album. It feels incredibly 90’s in a very cringy way.
Not really great in any aspect... Very forgettable even if they're trying something a little different than other hip-hop groups of this era. Best tracks: I can't get with that (which describes me with the rest of this album) Worst track: nothing really stands out but nothing is unlistenable. Rating: 3/42
The Fun Lovin' Criminal - 3.5/5 Passive/Aggressive - 3.5/5 The Grave and the Constant - 3.5/5 Scooby Snacks - 3.5/5 Smoke 'Em - 3/5 Bombin' the L - 3/5 I Can't Get With That - 3.5/5 King of New York - 3/5 We Have All the Time in the World - 3/5 Bear Hug - 3/5 Come Find Yourself - 3/5 Crime and Punishment - 3/5 Methadonia - 3/5 Out of all the 90's hip-hop adjacent albums this generic one got the nod? I don't hate this nor did I really like it, so 3* it is. Overall: 3/5 Favorites: Not really
Weird mix of rap and blues-y rock. I don't dig it. Fave track: I Can't Get With That
Never heard of these guys, but I love the variety.
Amazing first 10 seconds. Poor tho
Way too much repetitive hip hop and not enough fun.
1/5. Getting fed up of this album list. All shit. Knew 1 song the rest were unknown to me, for a very good reason after hearing them.
A time and place for stuffing Scooby Snacks in your face.
I remember much of this from years back, it's stood the test of time and still decent.
3/5
Perfectly serviceable hip hop album with nothing glaringly bad but nothing that’s worthy of paying any additional attention to.
Seemed like a not quite as good version of the better music coming out at that time.
If you took Everlast, the Beastie Boys, and Beck, tossed in a healthy dose of Medeski, Martin & Wood, threw them all into a blender, and hit puree, you’d probably end up with something resembling the Fun Lovin’ Criminals. Their debut album, Come Find Yourself, successfully straddles the line between alternative rock, hip-hop, and jazz, creating a sound that’s difficult to pigeonhole but surprisingly easy to enjoy. I remember these guys from thirty years ago when they first hit the scene. I never actually heard the entire album back then, but I definitely remember their unique sound, including the opening track that invokes the band’s name and their biggest hit, “Scooby Snacks.” Hearing the full album for the first time today, I was surprised by just how well that eclectic blend of styles works from beginning to end. The album seems to be getting a little more hate in the listener reviews than I would have expected, but I found Come Find Yourself to be a refreshing and thoroughly enjoyable listen. I’m not a huge fan of their cover of “We Have All the Time in the World,” though. Remove that track from the album and I would have easily given this a 4. Still, it’s quirky, laid-back, and eclectic without ever feeling like it’s trying too hard to be any of those things—and sometimes that’s exactly what makes an album work.
It was a groovy ride through these mid 90s genre bending vibes.
Not my cup of tea
There’s a ton of good rap albums on the list. This isn’t among them.
A nice mix of dozy chill vibes and angry sarcastic hip hop. I dug passive / aggressive in particular. Interesting vibe shift to songs like methadonia.
Huey Morgan is an absolute slice, there's some OK bits on here
I enjoy the singles but these guys are not good musicians and their shtick gets annoying pretty quickly
Juvenile lyrics, repetitive music and a thinly veiled attempt to cover a lack of talent with silly gimmicks. Desperately shit.
Unbelievably boring album. I'm sorry. I don't even have much else to say besides that. In order to give this review any sort of substance, I've decided to post all the notes I made while listening to this album. It really shows how I completely lost interest. ----- # 12:14 (Before listening) Now that I've reviewed Green Day's "American Idiot" (the album I was supposed to listen to yesterday), I can get to today's album. I've never heard of these guys or any of these songs. Is this just gonna be Beastie Boys 2.0 or..... (Started listening at 12:15) # 12:21 I guess it's alright. It's nothing too special. Probably not anything I'd ever go out of my way to listen to, but it's on I won't turn it off. # 12:28 "Scooby Snacks" is good. It actually has stuff going on. Every other song so far has just been really boring. There's just nothing happening in this album. # 12:35 I genuinely have nothing to say about this album it's just so incredib- WHY IS THERE A FREE BIRD SAMPLE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!? :sob: :sob: :sob: # 12:38 I am literally falling asleep to this; it is so incredibly boring. Getting up at 6am this morning has nothing to do with that, I'm sure. We're halfway done, at least. # 12:41 "I Can't Get With That" at least has a nice vibe, and I like the guitar solo. # 12:52 ok so i actually turned down spotify to listen to a new song from someone i actually like but we back "Bear Hug" is cool because it's not so slow and boring, but it still isn't doing very much at all. # 12:57 "its always been you, its always been IN you..." dude youre making me uncomfortable back AWAY from the microphone and STOP whispering # 13:01 Last song!! I have so little to say about this album that I think I'm just gonna post my notes as my "review" and call it a day. ----- Heard on: 29 Sep. 2026 Rating: ★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (277 / 333) Favorite track: Scooby Snacks Least favorite track: Smoke 'Em
Ganz witzig
90er ohne Ende. Das hat mich sehr schnell genervt.
Put on in the office which brought back a lot of good memories for the gang, rating it highly based on that
Weird inclusion on the list. Huey has a certain amount of charm but this has not aged well and is somewhat repetitive.
Not sure if it is really a classic on the same level as some of the albums on this list but I really enjoyed it
Another unknown band that really hit right for me, always delightful. Rap rock with some easy going vibes that borders on Reggae at some points. They bring enough variety with the instrument change ups throughout the songs to keep it interesting. The songs are straight forward generally but the bits that pop just keep everything moving in a good direction consistently. Also Grave and the Constant instantly became a save to my library, very nice track in the first half.
Fun reminder of the 90s when the goal was to try to mix every genre into every song.
Pretty solid, enjoyed this one from start to finish.
Hey, I came for the scoobs
Scooby Snacks is a classic. Otherwise this album is decent - fun rock hip-hop type stuff.
Nice laid back rhythm. The bluesy guitar with the talking style vocals works well.
meh, some really fun stuff on here but so, so, so, so much repetition of lyrics in the same song across multiple songs. it is tiresome
I mean, Scooby Snacks. It's fun, I guess? It's definitely of its time. High 2s.
This was an unexpected surprise. I thought I knew who the FLC were but I must be confusing them with someone else. The first half of this album was on track for 5 stars but it didn't finish as strong which was a shame. I really enjoyed the mix of all different genres on the beats while the rhymes are typical 90s rap. A really fun album overall though. 4*
Nah screw that this is the coolest shit I wasn’t sure how the whole rock/rap fusion thing would turn out but it blew even my wildest expectations out of the water. Scooby Snacks is a banger, love Bombin’ the L and that guitar solo, and Methadonia is a nice way to finish that really shows the range they have. I thought tone wise it had a great balance of not taking itself TOO seriously while also still having important themes. Rapping is good and they find a good flow especially combined with the way they weave those instruments and their vocals together It’s not perfect; I think Bear Hug kinda sucks and although they do a pretty damn good job, musically there wasn’t anything that absolutely wowed me. Still though, this was way more fun than it had any right to be and I had basically no expectations going in than “oh nice another 90s rap album”. It’s on the lower end of 5s, and I could absolutely see me giving it a lower score if I had a bad day, but it really impressed me so I think it’s more than deserving
this is like some f-ed up ship of theseus situation Because of the interpolation, there is a different quality here. A kind of energy in the room, something with texture that makes its feel more like a band or a jam session. Its a really nice sound for hip hop Genuinely enjoyed my time here, its easy listening, but layered and varied enough to make it a bop. It might not be historic, but that doesnt mean its a flop
Meh. IT was OK hip hop, but nothing memorable
Fav: We Have All the Time in the World L: Bear Hug 3 Fun, had a light mix of a bunch of different moods with some decent sound. Another Russian literature shoutout. Cover: 3 not sure I like the font and color of the title Name: 3 Minecraft Parody: Drink Em’ would be about potions
I'm rating this way late but I recall the last 2 tracks being pretty great. Maybe it's mid up to that point. W: the last 2 L: idk 3/5
Not really the strongest album. It’s not the worst one I’ve heard on this list, but it does make me question its inclusion. It mostly just sounds like a watered down version of other, better artists. It was okay enough for a single listen, but I don’t think I’ll go back to it.
I guess straight guys need their own specific music too.
Honestly, this is much better than it any right to be. Solid witty bars, pretty good backing tracks -- most of which are live instruments, and just a tight overall groove. I liked it! Scooby Snacks is the hit, of course (and it's about valium, not shrooms as I thought for a long time) -- the first 2/3 of the album really moves along. The last few tracks are less memorable, but it's certainly worth a laid back listen -- probably even better with some combustibles.
This is shit. The problem with the Beastie Boys is that the Beastie Boys made any white guy with an ounce of rhythm think that they could rap. No, the Beastie Boys were generational...there'll never be another like them. Where to begin...I don't know. I just was reading up on the lead singer and apparently he now lives in England which is fitting because this just reeks of that 90s Brit pop/trip hop shit that's found way too far often on this fucking generator. This whole thing reminds me of that guy you knew in high school or college that'd be like "Have you heard the Fun Lovin' Criminals?" with this little smile cause back then it was a clever sounding name. "Scooby Snacks" is clever...and not that the guy who told you about Fun Lovin' Criminals really was excited to tell YOU about Fun Lovin' Criminals but he was letting you know that he was enjoying his identity of being the guy who knows about this. He's into Tarantino (which, fine, great movies, but stop fucking asking everyone if they've seen Pulp Fiction), wears track jackets and wraparound Oakleys, has frosted tips and smokes pot. And that's the thing, the name of this band and the name of their hit song from this album are doing a lot of the lifting. It's just vibe packaging. But it's shit. The musicianship is actually fine. There's some bounce and rhythm, there's beats, there's grooves. But the minute the guy starts opening his mouth and rapping is where I stop having fun. And there was a fair amount of this shit in the 90s. Bloodhound Gang comes to mind...but Bloodhound Gang was just out to be fucking gross, hilarious, offensive and funny. Then there's G-Love and Special Sauce which is probably some of the shittiest music ever made. Even Sublime is better than this...and I just looked, how the fuck is this album AND G-Love and Special Sauce on this fucking thing but not Sublime? But this just doesn't belong on this list. They had a moment in the 90s, but this isn't some piece of the 90s that is a cultural landmark. It's a blip on the radar. A quirky artifact. When people talk about what they listened to in the 90s, I can't imagine this is something that people are recalling in the same breath as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, The Fugees, DMX, Jay-Z, Oasis, Green Day, Dre and Snoop, REM, Beck, Pac and Biggie, Alannis, and others....no one is mentioning the Fun Loving Criminals when they bring up music from the era. If anything it's like "Oh yeah, I remember them." Genuinely confusing as to why this is here. I'll was thinking about giving it a 1, but there's some moments here with the production and the music. And, really, I don't like giving a 1 score all that much. 1 is reserved for fuckin G-Love and Special sauce because THAT is easily a 1.
A better DJ than a songwriter.
Very nice and chill. A great listen for the background, not to be taking toooo seriously. A nice combination of mellow Beck with a bit of Jurassic 5, de la soul, but make it funny. Oh dear, but then We Have All the time in the world, that's an absolutely TERRIBLE song. WTF is that?
Zabavan album koji spaja razne žanrove i semplove od Tarantina (looking at you Scooby Snacks). Fun listen, ali ništa više od toga. Fav tracks: Passive / Aggressive, Scooby Snacks 6/10 = 3+
Scooby snacks finnst mér ennþá töff og skemmtilegt, og það er eitthvað næs við þennan hljóðheim, sömpl og varispeed falskheit. En þetta er enginn fjarki.
havent heard of this artist before dont know what to expect some immediate hip hop influence to start off the album. very unique production, but the flow doesnt do much for me fw this bassline, again though they arent really doing anything unique with their flow. also not a lot going on in the lyricism department im gonna sound like a broken record this whole review, but hip hop is one of those genres for me where if one element isnt clicking i just cant get past it. there just isnt enough variation for me to have much else to say i feel like this one couldve been good if there was more effort and inflection put in. its still decent for what it is i guess i aint got em if theres anything i can give this song, its that its at least giving a bit more effort than the previous ones. unfortunately, its still not quite enough to push it over the edge very chill beat, i appreciate it. the only thing really keeping this album somewhat afloat for me has been the live instrumentation which has been decently nice i think i just realized what the problem on all these songs has been. hes trying to do a snoop dogg thing with his rapping, except hes missing the iconic voice. which is why its like i can see what hes going for but it isnt quite working i quite like the beat going on here, then its immediately ruined by his attempt at singing. if this is what it sounds like for him to put in a decent amount of effort, maybe he should stick to barely rapping this is by far the most effort ive heard on the entire album. and subsequently its probably the most tuned in ive been the whole album. not saying i necessarily love it, but it at least moves me a bit im getting tired of trying to think of new ways to say the same thing, you know what i think by now eh im almost completely tuned out by this point. outro has the least energy on this whole thing. at this point im just waiting for it to be over so i dont have to say anything else overall i get what they were trying to go for on this album, but they just fell short in the rapping department. rap rock is very hit or miss in general, and i feel like for me the times where it really hits requires a lot of energy put into it and/or some more substantial messaging. this album did neither of that. the albums saving grace comes in the production. if nothing else, this could be a good album to just throw on in the background as it does have some good instrumentation going on. for that reason, i can still give this a 5
no me parecio malo veo mucha gente bardeando al album no es un 4, pero tampoco es 3 redondo, me gusto bastante
Definitely a "take it, or leave it" album. I'll leave it. Some recognisable songs from back in the day, but otherwise just more rap that I don't need in my life. Hard pass.
always suspect of anyone who does a lot (or any) self aggrandizing in their "About the artist" on Spotify which these guys do. Basically some mellow rap/hiphop type music. Actually not bad but not my cup of tea
Funky... ehhh
Can you remind me one more time what happens if you ain’t got ‘em? I think I missed it the first 32 times in a row you told me
Groovy, bluesy hip-hop (-ish) that’s cool and entertaining. Fun listen. Enjoyed it so much I listened to it twice. Could see putting this on in the background at a house party.
I think I learnt from the reviews that this wasn't big in America and I can sort of see why. It is pretty cheesy and lacking in the supposed authenticity of a lot of hiphop from the time. Of course a lot of that stuff wasn't any more authentic but FLC seem to give you a wink with their Tarantino samples and um... fun loving approach to documenting the criminal life style. But this was massive in the UK and I wasn't immune to its charm bouncing up and down behind the bar serving drinks on a busy Saturday.
Meh. The 90s were a hell of a time.
Well, I was prepared for that to be your typical hypocritical hip-hop but I was pleasantly surprised by its smooth jazz kinda hip-hop. Thanks for raising the bar.
Great album pity they are a bunch of knobheads now
Mid 90s rap rock from a band you’ve never heard of who ended up being bigger in Europe than they were in the US. This is red flag on top of red flag
Nog bättre som enskilda låter
No Words can describe the box of surprises is this album! I enjoyed it.
Another album I didn’t hate but didn’t love at the same time. Scooby Snacks is a banger but that’s about it
Nimenä tämä on tuttu artisti, mutta en muista kuunnella mitään näistä biiseistä. Letkeetä hiphopia jossa paikoin käytetty oikeita instrumentteja
This was a pleasant surprise. What a great album to vibe to.
a high 4 for me. there's a few songs in here in a big fan of, but the rest are just fine. I'm a huge fan of this sound, and I'm curious about how this band developed. there hasn't been many albums that have made me curious about the historical context it was developed in, so that definitely counts for a lot for me.
More hooks than a fishing vessel. Found myself skipping the last minute because they just wouldn't shut up.
soft 3. i appreciate something that's not british pop/punk, but these songs got repetitive.
Uh uh nope
twas pretty fun but nothing to remember
derivative /dĭ-rĭv′ə-tĭv/ - adjective - lacking originality : banal
this was like if the gangsta m&ms made an album
hmmm ich ha denkt ich fänds mega whack aber irgendwie sind die erste zwei no recht fun. beats sind guet de text isch chli goofy aber moll cool. und dass passive aggressive voll rock goht isch no geil. smoke em funny aber au seeeehr repetitiv sie hend cooli samples, de free bird isch guet igsetzt bi bombin the L he alles in allem uuuhuere fun aber au chli scumbag tonfall vom guy.
Scooby Snacks was a thing back when this came out. It was bloody awful then. And awful now
High energy music that doesn't take itself too seriously. I loved this album growing up, and it turns out I still enjoy it. Not entirely sure I would classify it as essential listening myself, but there's plenty other albums on the list that brings less.
I haven’t heard of this group. It is rap music. I don’t really care for rap music. The title of the album is a bit provocative. I hope this album is not a glorification of violence. We will see. This album is typical rap style. It has harsh vocals. The fun Lovin’ Criminals want to convey a bad boys’ image. A parental advisory: this record contains foul language, it glorifies criminal life and drug use. Let’s look at some specific songs. Fun lovin’ criminals: stick em up sums up their philosophy of life. Bombin’ the L: has a cool Smoke on the Water sample. Crime and Punishment: is this a Doestoevsky reference? I don’t think so. Not a very good album at all. Two stars
As has been noted in other reviews, it comes across as a little juvenile and it's hard to take it too seriously. That doesn't make me hate it but I wouldn't have chosen to listen to this at 16 and I sure as hell won't now. Unimaginative rap-rock to smoke weed to. Many, many better examples of the genre out there.
I remember when this album was released I was intrigued. I would always try to listen to white rappers and groups. Some were good and some were not. But every time I would see this album something gave me like a vanilla ice vibe. Like they were culture vultures trying to make a buck off music they really didn’t like but thought was their way in. So I’ll make a rock hip hop album with cool samples and act like New York gangsters. I listened today and realized 21 year old me was correct. Sure Scooby Snacks is good and catchy but I heard Cypress Hill in the music in the first song. The lyrics weren’t good. I heard bad Chili Peppers. I heard the rapper sound like a white Kid Frost. But without decent lyrics and Kid Frost wasn’t a great lyricist but at least he was believable. These guys were popular is the UK which is cool and I’m happy they had a career. I just didn’t think as a life long fan of hip hop that the music was that good. Actually the music was good. The lyrics sucked on most of the songs. I didn’t finish. It’s the first album I will not finish because it’s not going to get any better. I’m glad I didn’t waste my $13 back in the day for this.
Pretty awful. The rapping is poorly done, meaningless and trite, with delivery that screams “I’m trying hard to be cool and laid back.” The backing band is mostly playing very boring grooves that probably sounded dated within a year of being recorded. The main riff on Scooby Snacks is pretty catchy, though I’m not sure whether it’s original or borrowed from somewhere else. There’s a lot of questionable stuff on this list, but this album’s inclusion is truly mind-boggling.
I had Beck’s ‘Odelay’ last week. It also came out in ‘96. I guess it could be said that both albums had roughly the same “ingredients” but what is presented here is a dramatically different quality of dish. ‘Come Find Yourself’ comes up wanting in imagination, personality, dynamics, character, variety, originality, adventure, colour, experiment…I could go on. ‘Odelay’ is rich in all these characteristics and was an easy 5. I’m going to struggle to go higher than 2 here unless most of the second half is as good as first half highlight “I Can’t Get With That” which wasn’t even all that tbh …Aaaaand nope, the second half was just as limp except I also had to put up with an unnecessary cover and what sounded embarrassingly like an attempt at being Method Man. The sleeve has them chillin’ in the back seat with the top down but they seem to be simply stuck in NYC traffic. The album never gets out of second gear either.
Grooving and fun. I've never heard of these guys or their music. But it is easy on the ears.
A bit fun in parts but more of the same mediocre hip-hop overall. One to add to the 'I'll forget this ever existed in a week' pile.
So many different sounds on one album. Wasn't a big fan at the start but by the end, the tracks won me over. I knew of Scooby Snacks but never heard it before. It is okay. Favorites were King of New York, We Have All the Time in the World, and Crime and Punishment.
Not terrible is about the best I can say about this. Not really enjoyable or influential, either. Just a middling band from the middle of the 90s
I’d never heard of these guys. And I have no idea why their on this list. Aside from that, I found a few songs mildly interesting. And really liked the magnetic fields esque We have All the Time in the World.
They're trying too hard to be Beastie Boys.
Look, do I feel guilty for liking this? Absolutely! Is it gonna stop me from liking it? Absolutely not.
no
Much as their name suggests, this was a reasonably fun listen most of the time. It lost its way a bit towards the end but overall fairly enjoyable.
