Reviews (page 8 of 8)
This is cringe before cringe was defined in our modern era. I’ve lived through this time, and I’ve never met one person who says “I’m a fan of the fun lovin criminals“ how this made it to the list I’m not quite sure couldn’t find redemption in any aspects of traditional music production that I’ve been using to grade albums this entire time
Lol. The sliver of time this has to be popular could be measured to an egg timer. Let's leave it in the past.
I kinda hate it. Pass
Um, so I’m guessing the list authors have a friendly connection to this man because BBC stuff or something?
Crazy to go back and read contemporary reviews of this. 90s was crazy for genre mash ups and this is a great example of some of the rubbish put out. Lyrically, it is relentlessly cringe faux gangster rubbish. The music is somewhere between Muzak and throw away chill house samples. Scooby Snacks is fun I suppose, rest is crap. 1.5* Also, free John Gotti?!
Very much not for me. Seems like a precursor to things like Everlast or Uncle Cracker. Nope. 1.25/5
a one hit wonder that's mostly clips from Tarantino movies. it's catchy but not enough to carry a whole album.
One minute in, I kind of hate this. It feels a bit like G Love, but way more corny. Tried my way through Passive / Aggressive, but quickly noped out. Skipped forward to the other "single," Scooby Snacks -- this is a touch better with the dubbed out vibe, but only margnially. I'm not putting another 40 minutes into this one. 1 / 5 for me.
Derivative and sophomoric. Sure it’s full of hooks that not only are samples but samples that have been used a lot before this came out.
Not for me
no. no. no no no no no. the album with "Scooby Snacks" is not, in fact, worthy of any praise. fuck off.
This is one of the worst albums I have listened to on this list so far. And not really in a way that screams at you how bad it is. It's just hilariously cheesy and very meat and potatoes. It's wild to me when music like this exists, like there is enough people who are on board throughout the whole process to make it happen. Just so hilarious bad.
Garbage, trash, a 0. Soulless reproduction of hip hop to be available to a white suburban youth. Everything about this album is childish. The best song "King of New York" has the worst hook of all time: "La di da di, la di La di da di, free John Gotti" Like, seriously? You couldn't rhyme Gotti with anything? The only reason this album is even remembered at all is for the ripped lines from Pulp Fiction in "Scooby Snacks."
I really tried with this one... It sounds like what I imagine people who think that the music from Sonic Adventure 2 is too high class listen to. And I think SA2 music is oddly dope. Its the butt of butt rock. 0/10.
No thank you
This is garbage drug-rap. Pretty much everything wrong with the world.
Worst corny trend-genre ever
The music was fine, but the lyrics were rap. If they were just instrumentalists, I probably would have liked it.
Ok listen some tracks, although We Have All The Time In The World is shocking. 1/5 because of that
Favourite Song: Scooby Snacks Didn't really feel like it was doing anything. I do absolutely love Scooby Snacks as a song, but I struggled to keep my attention with the rest.
This is the first album on this list that started and I thought oh, oh no Not a fan
This sounds like a parody of hip hop. No thanks
Scooby snacks is goed.
Goodness me this is silly and juvenile. Overall, just a bit too much. 1.4 stars. Wouldn't listen to anything else by them.
There was nothing fun or lovin’ about this, though they did steal 50 mins of my attention so they were right about the criminal part. 1 star
Rap crap. No tune. All sounds the same.
Hardly a classic
This hasn't aged well.
i dislike hip hop
Not a fan of hip hop
Look, 1001 is a big number. That’s a lot of albums! I would struggle to name that many myself. But I think I would round down if it meant that I had to include this album. How is this something I need to hear before I die? It’s like Sublime without the reggae/ska tinge to it and more of a sense of humor about pretending to be hard. Sublime is not someone I’d want to be compared to. Whoever the main rapper is has zero emotion. The same monotonous voice throughout. I guess the instrumentation is interesting but it ends up being a lot after a few tracks of the same intensity and I can’t even tell if the lyrics are clever enough to make up for it? What is this even trying to be? Just why?
It was fine. Scooby Snacks is a classic, but not a great song. Nothing really remarkable here. 1/5
Boomer shit
It just sounds like watered down Cypress Hill or recycled Sublime. Half-baked, and not in a fun lovin’ way.
Always struck me as music for morons, still seems very basic - designed for meatheads to dance in fist pumping ecstasy after way too much alcohol
Rough
I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS
Don't get this band at all. Just not my cup of tea, very uninspiring
I have never heard of this, although I kind I remember that Scooby Snacks song being sort of a hit. Regardless, this sucks. I am not going to bother looking anything up, but I assume these guys all met at a frat party. Juvenile lyrics, boring instrumentals, this is just a completely disposable bit of music.
So silly and honestly not really catchy at all, if it’s silly the music has to be good too !!
Is it done yet....I've been sleeping half the album
Seriously, this album is here? No one in 2022 care about this album anymore. Who would? Fans of alternative rock? Of hip-hop? Who? There's only a few nice dub passages, but they were unfortunately destroyed by a bad sounding electric guitar playing emotionless riffs.
trashy shit
Unoriginal and hilariously derivative. Wannabe's in multiple ways.
This record haunted my life for 25 years. Finally I got it out of my system and here you are, ramming it down my throat again, like my old man used to do to your mum. It's quite shit and I don't want to ever hear it again.
didnt age well
Straight up does not belong on this list. I'm honestly baffled as to how this was even a consideration. Listened to this as a private session on Spotify so it didn't show up in my history.
Didn't find much joy with these tracks
Drivel. Never once caught my attention or gave me something to enjoy about it. The general sound is uninspiring, the songs are short and don't coalesce into anything on the album, and the riffs are highly forgettable. If this is an album that I "must listen to", I'd hate to see your idea of a forgettable, throwaway album.
Next
“Come Find Yourself is the debut studio album by the American band Fun Lovin' Criminals. It was released on February 20, 1996 by Chrysalis Records.”

Fun Lovin'? No. Criminal? Yes.
This seems like the hip hops version of Smash Mouth. Very corny, there's better examples of this genre that aren't on the list. Maybe I'm being harsh
Oh my god, this is garbage.
Another band name that I've heard, but couldn't tell you a single song title. But that Scobby Snacks guitar part was sampled or used in movies a lot, I think. This band's rap/rock mix might've been cool in 1996 when this record was recorded. And there is a soul to this you wouldn't find in late-90s and early-00s rap rock. But I still don't really like the mix, and it's harder to stomach knowing what came immediately afterward. Thanks, Fred Durst and Kid Rock.
If I could describe this album in one word it would be: cringey. The vocals aren't great, the lyrics go from awkward to terrible, and the melodies aren't anything to write home about. It's like the group thought they were these tough gangsters but they're just kind of a mess. Overall a really underwhelming album.
Pretty shit
I find it interesting that I had never heard of or listened to these guys before, being so heavy into 311 and Sublime types. This was an enjoyable listen, but nothing that really hit home. Smoke Em and Scooby Snacks are the highlights of this record. This sounds like the band that opens for Sublime on tour and you think about buying their merch.
Didn’t really get them the first time around and now they just feel dated to me and I still don’t get them. Sorry but it’s another meh.
I want to say 1001 albums is too many, but I don't think that's true. I guess I just think this one should not have made the cut. I feel like I want to check the credentials of whoever complied this list. I guess if you look at it strictly through the lens of whether you should listen to this album before you die, there is something interesting to note in remembering a moment in history where this was a reasonably plausible creative endeavor.
reeheeheeheehee. Rhikes Rhaggy, Rhis Rhalbum's Not Good
Shit
I couldn't even get through it entirely.
I went into this with very low expectations. Then I was pleasantly caught off guard by Track 1, but then quickly realized I hated everything about this album.
sits in between genres: random muttering with a lot of acoustic backing. Repetitive and annoying tracks liks "Smoke 'em" drove me nuts. my first 1/5.
Meh
I wrote a haiku: This album is long. Every song sounds the same. Please make it stop... Please.
3/5 hiphoppia
good hits
