Shake it like a polaroid picture!
Classic OutKast, long album with lots of hits and catchy tracks
HipHop ist einfach nicht meins.
That didn’t age well, did it?
Shake it sh sh shake it
when it's good, it's amazing. concept is brilliant, although i prefer Love Below to Speakerboxxx. my complaint is that even as a double album, it feels a little bloated. if they couldve trimmed it a bit--like 45 minutes each--i feel like itd be perfect.
The first album we see with a Parental Advisory. I was wondering why at first since it was rap for the radio. Once the bills were paid, the gangsta came out to play. I wasn't a big fan.
Not my cup of tea.
.
Good but this album is giant! 40 songs.
7.25
Had some bangers for sure, just too long. If shorter 4 stars
Too many skits and interludes kept this from being a full 5 stars. Love this album. LOVE this album, but every time I listen I hit skip at least 7 times. That shouldn’t be the case.
Very good, very close to getting a 5.
Super good, a double album that's actually worth the two discs for once!
speakerboxxx 4/5, the love below 5/5. overall 5/5?
8/10. I’m impressed with how this kept me pretty engaged throughout the whole thing, and how well it holds up in 2021. The biggest issue I have with it is that it wasn’t super consistent, there were definitely weaker tracks here and there. Still a great album
5 stars and all of them are because the music was fun
Speakerboxxx is almost a 5/5...the love below is...not
9/10. Stream of consciousness review below, but this was a really enjoyable album. Or two albums. Or whatever it was. Going to start keeping track of the weirdest alcoholic drink to be mentioned in an album, and this is winning so far with Butterscotch Schnapps (in Bowtie), which it sounded like was either being drunk straight, or combined with Bailey's. As someone with poor short term memory, it is really helpful they say Speakerboxxx every 10 minutes or so to remind me what I am listening to, it's like I'm watching Disney Channel. Rhyming "nasty hoes" with "pistachios" was a stroke of genius. Also had the most fun song about church that I have heard. It's weird to see a featured artist whose name I recognize, and weirder still that I only recognize the name because she is the live-action Ahsoka actress. Hey Ya is spectacular, of course, and it surprised me how much slower The Love Below feels in general compared to Speakerboxxx and Hey Ya. Repeating "age ain't nothin but a number" at the start of Pink and Blue got me thinking about that my great aunt flirting with one of my friends at my grad party, which distracted from the rest of the song. Dracula's Wedding is cool though. Would not have thought a 5 minute instrumental cover of My Favorite Things could be that enjoyable.
Outkast are great. Sorely missed. Great album
I didn't finish it because it was like 2 1/2 hours long. But I got like 3/4 through and I didn't like the production on the first few tracks but it quickly became very good. The lyrics were amazing. It's just not really my style... I have to go back to it later and I'm sure I'll like it way more. How I rate the albums: 1 star: bad 2 stars: neutral 3 stars: good 4 stars: amazing 5: stars: perfect
4.2 - Epic. Speakerboxxx comes on hard and nasty. Bottom heavy sludgy beats. Notable cameos from Killer Mike and Jay Z. The Love Below starts off highly introspective and takes a much different and very interesting turn, exploring the concept of finding one's own true love. It's an epic journey, an undeniably varied and dense of body of work and the sheer volume of music here boggles the mind. Small aside - it's rare that I think the skits make a hip hop album. In this case, the skits provide the glue within the narrative, which makes listening this as an album that much more rewarding.
I’m not a hip-hop fan but there’s lots to like on this 2XCD. Creative, experimental with lots of funk, jazz and humour!
Fistfull of 3.3
Hm, ja. Hm.
Unkown
when?
Didn't even bother the picture says it all!
I think I'll rate these separately because they're so different. Speakerboxxx was a little boring tbh. I like the overall sound but it's a long time to spend listening to songs that are pretty samey and multiple interludes. Also kinda pissed that the album starts with an Intro but ends with a Postlude (why not intro/outro or prelude/postlude??). The Love Below was more up my alley, even though it was really long. A lot of the lyrics and interludes were dumb but I liked the music a lot more. 7 for Speakerboxx, 9 for Love Below, 8 overall I guess
It is just two solo albums but they're pretty good
a modern classic! Both sides are so strong. I wish andre would have released more solo music. Big Boi's solo albums after this are also really strong. I feel like "hey ya" is the only track people know from here and the radio sadly ruined that song for a lot of people. I have very fond memories of dancing with two of my best college girlfriends to this album.
Half decent album. Not really my thing.
4.3* bangers but also some bum
Great double album where each half is equally strong. Style and theme is consistent within each side, with very few weak tracks despite the length. 9/10, pretty good
Takes a tusk to the expectations of a hip hop album. A few tracks I can miss, but on the whole a great listening experience, and a modern classic
Hip hop, soul. Muy largo. Algunas cosas interesantes.
Andre 3000 has a unique voice, lots of interludes/skits. Would be worth a revisit. Some solid bangers
holds up
Back in 2003 I wouldn't have listened to this purposefully, even though I truly enjoyed its three main singles. Nowadays I'm better prepared to enjoy it, and enjoy it I did. Beautifully crafted album!
Meh
very bad, black music lost its way a long time ago
Some absolute bangerrrrs.
Had this album when I was a young lad. Love Below is very good
meh. very not my type.
Rap music is not my cup of tea. It was tolerable in gta san andreas but as a standalone nope. Not at all
Algunas canciones tienen buenas combinacion, otras buenas rimas y otras buen ritmo
The album(s) had some fantastic songs, but also many songs felt experimental. I think that's ok for maybe one or two songs, or a mixtape, but for a studio album, you really have to already be a fan of the band to not be thrown off by experimental songs like this. Andre 3000 is not a singer, btw.
come on! love this!
Dear God this is a long album
Decent.
classic
Klassiker. Bra samples. Bra features. Andre3000 klockren, big boi likaså.
Speakerboxxx: pretty average. The Love Below: 5 star.
Just fantastic so much good music in one album.
ya! and it has Norah on it. perfect.
It’s probably too long but it’s great
a very cool album very interesting 🥸 enjoyed the second half
mmm
The album was long. Really long. But I wouldn’t necessarily say that I didn’t enjoy it. It’s actually hard to pick out a “bad” song or even parts that were hard to get through but also, It being over 2 hours made it hard to pick out any “good” / notable songs because there was so much to consume. It flowed well though and enjoyed it slightly more than I was expecting.
The next one I have Speakerboxxx/The Love Below the double album from the southern rap group Outkast - released in 2003. I've listened to this in the past, and I recall it being difficult to make it through the whole thing. It's over two hours and I just started it. The first part is Speakerboxxx and the side known as the Big Boi side. I'm enjoying the energy and bounce on the Big Boi side, it's really helping me stay awake in the middle day on a random Tuesday. Having lived through the early 2000s I was very aware of this album, and the two hit songs were everywhere for a long time. Outkast was the biggest thing in the world at the time, funny how it was really the end - though I think hope someday they will re-unite. Enjoying this album today.
Not my type of music at all
4 for Speakerboxx, 3 for The Love Below (would've been lower but damn, those singles!!). Way too long but I'll prob only listen to Speakerboxx in the future!
Outstanding!
This was too long, to be honest. It was pretty okay, but I did not finish it.
It's so hard to rate this album. It's just so good. So so good. So perfect
I prefer the love below to speakerboxxx but it’s still amazing as a whole
Great album
2.5
Great. Great. Great.
Bell me piaciut, so fort gli Outkast
Has all of Outkast's greatest hits. Has almost a vaudevillian theme to it. May not be the best way to describe.
This album has it ALL. What a collection.
bagunça
2nd disc is a whole different experience and pulls the album up from a 2; pretty raunchy lyrics throughout, though
This really is 2 albums. I love speakerboxxx. One of my all time favourite hip hop albums. I find the love below a bit more challenging though. I think I have to give 5 stars for the strength of side A and the absolute banging singles from side B.
Great double album had it when it came out
Kinda bloated, could be reduced to a single album in my opinion.
Hip hop isn't my typical music. I don't quite understand it. I think this is more uplifting with a dash of activism sprinkled in. The videos of the album seem meant to be funny
some stuff is really good, some is gruesome
A chef-d'œuvre from the coolest motherfuckers on the planet. I nearly gave it a 5 but “Hey Ya”, like a steaming turd in a freshly mown lawn, ruined an otherwise immaculate hip hop album.
Loved it 03. Love it in 20’
Sometimes fun
Excellent album
<3
OuKast is an undeniable hip-hop power duo. So, of course, they chose to release a double solo album to follow up Stankonia, arguably their biggest release ever. Weird decision but one that paid off. Both Speakerboxxx and The Love Below are stuffed with bangers and clearly demonstrate what each member brings to the mix to make OutKast so damn good. Neither album feels like an OutKast album but they both feel like distillations of an OutKast album and I unashamedly love 'em both.
Big Boi and Andre 3000 are so uniquely talented that it was inevitable that they'd eventually go their own ways. It's lucky for us that they decided to collaborate on each other's solo albums and put them out together. The two sides stand completely on their own, but somehow still form a cohesive unit. Best track: Hey Ya!
Lotta really good stuff on here but at over 2 hours it feels bloated. I get that it’s like a double album or whatever but it felt like a slog by the end. Everything with killer mike is great and this is an impressive forward thinking hip-hop album from a time when song structure and innovation were far from the rap games mind.
Speakerboxxx is packed with great guests, awesome beats that still sound fresh, and Big Boi throwing his all into it. It's a 5/5. The Love Below is interesting and the one word I keep coming back to is "indulgent". It's a low 3. Pretty long project overall, but pretty worth it. Favorite tracks (Speakerboxxx): "The Rooster", "GhettoMusick", "The Way You Move", "Church" // Favorite tracks (The Love Below): "Roses", "My Favorite Things", "A Life in the Day of Benjamin Andre"
Nope. Clearly not anything I need to have or listen to ever.
Speakerboxx was better than The Love Below but overall this was funky and fresh and I loved the vibes. Would revisit.
2003. Key Songs: Roses, Hey Ya!, Bowtie
One of the craziest, most timeless yet also dated, efforts in the history of pop music. The beginning of a new era for Big Boi and southern hip-hop and the end of an era for the mythical Andre 3000 who has become something of a hip-hop Brian Wilson. There are some good Prince comparisons to be made but 3K's music is a murky haze of influences and in this strange and unsettling sound, I think we find the likes of Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar and so many more. Big Boi's side is more or less what you expect if you're familiar with the Kast but that doesn't make it less immaculate. In both Big Boi and Andre's side, exist entire worlds, summations of everything they've witnessed thus far in their life as artists and while not every track is gonna hit you on the level of Hey Ya! or The Way You Move, I'd say it's well worth the ride.
Epic album. Outkast is stellar
Too long
