1001 Albums Summary

Surprised I already knew 4 of these songs. Also how varied the sound is across this album. If I didn’t know it was the same artist, I don’t think I would have guessed these were all by the same artist.

This is not my cup of tea. I find the lyrics a bit misogynistic. Guess I just don’t have the cultural experience to relate. I don’t know. Reggae is fine just not for me. Though it’s clearly influenced other artists that I do like.

A little bit familiar with this one. But it all mostly sounds the same - low key vibes. What does it say that my favorite is the instrumental “intro” track and none of the lethargic vocal tracks.

So I’m not enjoying this. I find blues frustrating and i just want to yell ‘get over yourself’. But there’s some impressive guitar solos and I can see how this would have been influential. But i just want this to be over. Everything is so drawn out. What I wonder is if I’d feel this way on another day. Today this is just irksome.

Great voice, but such sad sack music. Now Hallelujah is one of my all time favorite songs but not this cover. I know lots of other people like it but it’s missing the gravitas & experience that Cohen brings. Better voice, I guess but then with respect to that I prefer k.d. Lang’s cover.

It’s Hendrix…

He’d probably be a blast to see live. But yet more music that doesn’t resonate with me. I see how it could appeal to someone else.

Some pretty iconic tunes but not my favorite Led Zeppelin.

The trumpet parts were listenable but the backing tracks - organ, drums were so dated sounding that it really ruined this music for me. Jazz is already not my thing and to have something so of it’s time instead of timeless made this unenjoyable. Extra star for Miles Davis’ trumpet

Enjoyable poppy stuff for the most part. Some of lyrics are a bit creepy and pedophilic when listening in 2023.

Why is the one thing I remember a lyric about how a man shouldn’t hit is wife because the only thing that teaches her is how to dodge? And it got laughs… it’s dated and I can’t relate.

The first and last tracks are bangers. But not a fan of all the honky in between.

One of my childhood favorites

Pretty good but really too mellow for my tastes.

The first half is unrelentingly frenetic. Not for me. Too exhausting. By the time the slightly less chaotic later half came around I was so done with the whole thing. I’m going to go find somewhere to eat my lunch in silence.

This is a bit better than just noise. Very 90s. Might’ve liked it then but not now. After a while just kinda samey and boring.

I guess this was quite an influential album but today I'm just finding it a bit silly.

I enjoyed this better than that John Zorn album but that's really not saying much. This type of jazz is not for me.

Very much of its' time and that's a time in which I don't belong.

I would listen to this if it was only a track or two. But 10 tracks were a bit too much and a bit too melancholic and samey for me.

I like some of the bass lines but otherwise I cannot relate to this. I find many of the lyrics offensive and the skits lame. Not for me.

Today I learned Buster Poindexter is the lead singer of this band.

I'm sure this is important somehow but I don't care for the blues.
