Beatles
3/5
liked the quick simplicity as opposed to the longer, more complex work i've heard in other beatles projects.
really a 7, but can't do half-stars.
The Beach Boys
4/5
this really does not sound like a rock album from 1966
Boston
4/5
just jam after jam after jam
David Bowie
5/5
one of those albums that's amazing on its own, but the story behind its creation magnifies it multitudes higher. the jazz quartet sells that deathly sound so well. seriously something magical
Elvis Presley
3/5
it's like fine
Gang Starr
4/5
lot of people reviewing this album on this website are too closed-minded to give any rap record a fair shake.
The Crusaders
3/5
this album manages to blend elements of disco, soul, jazz, and funk into a near-homogenous mix, which is worthy of praise. unfortunately, it does this with very basic forms of each ingredient, creating a somewhat bland product - though still one i'll probably come back to every so often.
Songhoy Blues
3/5
the first song sounds like ford truck month. the rest is pretty cool
Frank Zappa
4/5
funky to the max

1/5
this album reminds me of branson, missouri in the sense that it's all style, no substance, kind of annoying, and gives me a headache.

Funkadelic
4/5
heard the title track, or at least some of it, before, but never gave the rest of this a listen. cannot believe i was missing out. this album is pretty fantastic for the most part, but there is a metal warbling on back in our minds that i can't decide if i tolerate or despise, and gross farting noises on wars of armageddon. why did they do that?
Sisters Of Mercy
4/5
moody, groovy, and cool. maybe these goths know what they're doing!
Bob Dylan
5/5
cannot believe i'm giving this a 5 but on relisten it really is THAT good

Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
and be a simpllllleeeee kind of mannnnn
Antony and the Johnsons

Elvis Costello & The Attractions
2/5
he said WHAT?

Korn
3/5
had to use the restroom while listening so some of the last seconds of this album were overrun by the sound of a urinal flushing. i have to believe this is what any nu-metal band would want

The Roots
3/5
maybe cool it with the seed talk
Kendrick Lamar
5/5
this is one of the two albums i would say qualifies as the greatest album i've ever heard. there are at least a couple dozen i like more than it, to be sure, but almost nothing compares to the depth you'll find in the lyrics, the instrumentation, the theming, etc. - truly grateful to be alive at the same time as this
Depeche Mode
3/5
dancealicious
The Who
3/5
once again the curse of not having the original release on streaming and plaguing me with unneeded bonus tracks
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
3/5
a bit boring sadly
Fairport Convention
2/5
maybe this one caught me at a bad time, but i just don't care about it at all. i also realized i got caught with ANOTHER instance of non-disclosed bonus tracks, which sours the experience just a tad bit more

this actually sounded pretty good instrumentally but unfortunately i hate pedophilia
Nirvana
4/5
i prefer the studio versions of all the nirvana songs, but it's still a great performance and given this album's context in kurt's/nirvana's story overall i certainly understand why it's here
Led Zeppelin
4/5
great job led zeppelins
Muddy Waters
3/5

4/5
unparalleled swag mr. mayfield
Beastie Boys
4/5
i got this and was over the moon when i recognized the isley brother's sample in 'a year and a day' from kendrick lamar using it on his song 'i'. what a great birthday album
Dirty Projectors
2/5
i didn't necessarily dislike my time with this, but i certainly did not like most of it, either
The Police
4/5
starts off pretty strong, ends off pretty strong, weird reggae in the middle
Elvis Costello
3/5
this album kind of sounds like something your captors would play on repeat as psychological torture because it gets stuck in your head - which means, on first listen, it's pretty catchy!
The Smashing Pumpkins
5/5
an epic, in the truest sense of the word. very long, but very worth it. fantastic.
Neil Young
4/5
a great album by one of the greats
Raekwon
5/5
held my attention the entire time, which is a compliment given its length. loved those RZA beats. a really solid release!
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
say what you want about the great songwriting - this thing is hard to listen to on a literal level. his voice isn't the best, and the simple instrumentals that could help under different vocals just don't suit him well.
Keith Jarrett
3/5
i mean, it's good piano, but at over an hour, i want more than just piano
Oasis
4/5
hey, this was really good!
Al Green

2/5
one of those albums that makes you think, 'maybe there aren't 1001 albums worth listening to'
10cc
3/5
a little too quirky at times, but overall a fine listen
Public Enemy
4/5
super energetic the whole way through
Kanye West
4/5
in my opinion, the most overrated ye album. it's too long (see: runaway second half (sorry!), hell of a life, blame game), and the entire thing has this low-fidelity, grainy rock sound on it in service of the maximalist theming. that being said, it's still pretty damn fantastic, and absolutely deserves its spot on this list. also, see me know is one of ye's best bonus tracks - that asphalt line kills me every time.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
4/5
y'know what, tom petty? hell yeah.

Christina Aguilera
3/5
held my attention, but outside of a couple tracks, didn't really do much else.
Joni Mitchell
4/5

Neil Young
4/5
it's probably been said a thousand times but looking at this guy you would never guess he has the voice he does. love you to death neil young
Missy Elliott
4/5
for being dedicated to the victims of the september 11th attacks, this is a deeply unserious album.
Miles Davis
4/5
title is apt - jazz is cool, miles davis is cool, this album is cool.
Parliament
3/5

System Of A Down
4/5
what a jam, through and through.
David Bowie
4/5
this guy was really, truly from another planet
Leonard Cohen
4/5
what a pioneer, beautiful and gentle songwriting throughout.
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
i've always felt a little out of place among my peers for not thinking this album is as good as others do. it's still great, don't get me wrong, but i find it a bit padded out and somewhat boring on some tracks. still, it showcases a ton of talent, and sing about me, i'm dying of thirst is still one of kendrick lamar's best songs, even all these years later.
DJ Shadow
4/5
infectious. uses jazz motifs in meaningful ways and knows how to create build up and pay it off well. loved it since the first time i heard it.
The Band
4/5
freakin' sweet!
Marilyn Manson
2/5
if you ever think you'll never amount to anything musically, always come back and remember that multiple people approved the intro track on this album, so you could always be doing worse.
Dexys Midnight Runners
4/5
this is kind of like black country, new road for 80s office workers
Talking Heads
3/5
i like talking heads

Bert Jansch
3/5
i like folk music :)

a little repetitive in its overall sound at times, but still moderately enjoyable
Bob Dylan
5/5
'waaah! waaah! i don't like his voice!' you gotta grow up, man

in a word: awesome
4/5
what a visionary
k.d. lang
4/5

Blondie
3/5
another classic instance of 'hey, this is pretty good!' followed by that one popular song that shows you why this album is in the list.
Michael Jackson
4/5
just monumental. how do you make an album with so many certified hits?
Ice Cube
4/5
just fantastic. i still maintain that 'it was a good day' has potentially the best beat in rap history.
Hawkwind
3/5
y'know, i thought i would hate the length (and how difficult it was to find 'the' version of this album - eventually i gave up and just listened to the 116-minute version), but i still thought it was pretty solid the whole way through.
Yes
4/5
didn't realize until i got ready to listen to this that roundabout was not only on this album, but was the first song
ZZ Top
3/5
i have to say, standing up at my desk while listening to this made me dance quite a bit more than i usually feel inclined to.
Soundgarden
2/5
sure could've gone without hearing that ever
Dinosaur Jr.
5/5
in terms of cover and title, one of the best ever. in terms of music, really freakin' awesome
Einstürzende Neubauten
2/5
this album sounds like it was recorded in the toy box killer's trailer. it did manage to win me over a little in the second half - not much, but enough.
Pink Floyd
4/5
looked up the summary of this one on wikipedia while listened since i knew most pink floyd albums have a good concept behind them. this one did not disappoint, and knowing the concept certainly helped! i would likely give this a 5 on a relisten.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
it's pretty clear that maps is the standout here, but even outside of that, you could do a lot worse - even if you could also do a good bit better.
The Pogues
2/5
It certainly wasn't bad, but, unfortunately, I just know I won't be returning to this very often
David Holmes
4/5
was it my bias for chill electronic music that caused me to enjoy this album more than the average person? maybe, but i still loved it
Syd Barrett
4/5
you hate to hear that an album was made during a mental lapse, but why do they always sound so good?

3/5
i sure liked this more than their last one i heard on this website!
Foo Fighters
3/5
i enjoyed myself throughout the runtime and didn't get bored. sometimes, that's high enough praise.
The Soft Boys
3/5
what's with the ventriloquist dolls?
Marvin Gaye
4/5
i'm not sure if it's crazier that this guy died because he was shot in the chest by his own father or that in his relatively short time on this earth he was able to release this much awesome music
AC/DC
3/5
if it was 1979 and i heard this freak's voice singing about being on the highway to hell, i would understand why people caused the satanic panic
my day was indeed a little more beautiful for having listened to this
Erykah Badu
5/5
just solid all around, love that distinct voice. i actually heard this album for the first time over two years ago, but in all that time since i didn't realize that track 8 ('kiss me on my neck') didn't download with the rest of the album, so that was a nice surprise. orange moon is an all-time r&b song!
Steve Winwood
4/5
loved the cover and loved the songs just as much!
The Clash
3/5
this list screams at me 'YOU WILL LEARN TO LOVE ALL SUBGENRES OF BRITISH ROCK', and luckily sometimes they are right.
Stevie Wonder
5/5
i've heard this work so many times front to back i have yet to finish it as i'm writing this review. this is quite possibly the best album that has ever been released in the recorded history of the world.

Joan Baez
3/5
