Deserter's Songs
Mercury Revnot bad although some songs sound like aliens would enjoy
not bad although some songs sound like aliens would enjoy
immaculate + timelessly cool sound
ok. bit too grungy
pretty good. i like the 80s take on blues-rock. fav song: legs or i need you tonight (sharp dressed man maybe a bit overplayed). some of the outros felt 5 min long though
I though this was pretty good actually. Closer to 3.5 maybe. I haven't heard much of this side of Neil Young who I can usually take or leave. Pairs well with the Eagles album (I'm catching up).
i forgot how much i like "uh oh, love comes to town". rest of the album is fine, typical David Byrne weirdness. hopefully Speaking in Tongues is on this list too.
yeah this is fire. obviously the first 3 tracks are bangers but I never listen to the rest -- also pretty good. i really liked Victim of Love, haven't heard it as often.
sort of like if jefferson airplane did more drugs and was worse at making music
hmm maybe U2 is good
pretty good. just classic blues. timeless!
listened to this again before reviewing because i forgot all about it and it’s better than i remembered from yesterday. it’s giving nick drake who i am sort of ambivalent about. but at its best it’s better than that and pretty interesting. at its worst it’s just bland. maybe closer to 2.5 on another day but what the hecj
not too bad. i like a new-wave adjacent vibe. Dear God was probably the best track.
ok, not as heavy as some parts of Nevermind which I liked, but in some parts also not as interesting. just not that into the grunginess of it all i suppose
obviously Fast Car is 10/10. the rest of the album very 90s but I liked it! Improves on re-listen as well. Just an immense amount of talent.
i enjoy jazz music :)
pretty good but just makes me think of other, even better Pet Shop Boys songs. the singles on this were not as peak as basically any of their other albums
i like radiohead. this didn't have any major standout songs to me but it's a cool vibe and a slightly different sound from their other albums (all of which I've enjoyed as i discover them)
nice, fairly unassuming, very 60s. for some reason was giving me sesame street vibes
wall to wall bangers per usual from the Dire Straits
pretty cool. i knew/liked some stuff from SZA but never sat down and listened to anything of hers deliberately before. great vocals, cool atmosphere. not all the songs my cup of tea but definitely a cool overall product
this kind of thing is exactly what i was hoping this 1001 albums project would deliver: a new-to-me sort of forgotten classic, only one hit album but honestly it's kind of fire. they're like a weirder, slightly fruitier Duran Duran (& it mostly works).
2.5 stars. was a bit weird but i liked it
pretty good. kinda fun to listen some classic era Johnny Cash that I haven't actually heard before. the live aspect is fun as well, good showman
This isn't my favourite Dolly album- not sure if I've ever listened to this in full before. Still, it's definitely a solid entry into the classic country canon. Most of these songs (title track esp) should be sappy/cliche, but they're so earnest they just work. Travelling Man v underrated twist-ending country song IMO.
Good. I like this kind of motown soul, but this album is not an especially interesting example imo. Maybe I was too distracted while listening? Def not bad though.
I'd probably give it a 2.5-ish, it was ok but not bad. Definitely a bit weird --sometimes in a cool way and sometimes in a weird-bad way.
I liked it ! It's Tricky & Walk This Way still rule. Some of the other songs are pretty goofy -- like that "classic" style of hip-hop that's very satire-able (the alternating words lol) but overall it's still cool
is this what prog rock is? this did remind me of Rush a bit . at first i though this was too weird but I warmed up to some of it...
maybe i'm biased because this is an album that i've heard before but i love this album. it's so fun. somehow it was like my intro to actually enjoying jazz (i think la la land and then this). i still don't understand time signatures.
some real classics but the ones in between were of variable quality
actually I quite liked this one (~3.5 ★) - kind of cool, reminds me of the smiths etc
1st impressions sounds like if KISS could play guitar. 2nd impressions (halfway through the album) sounds like David Bowie. damn i didn't know Deep Purple were doing it like this. this was pretty good actually
I fell asleep midway through listening to this album and doing homework, but it's nice sounding. kind of what you imagine when you think of spanish music
I liked this more than I thought I would - not what I would usually listen to but would listen to again
did not particularly enjoy this. feels like the soundtrack to a bad 2000s movie.
Obviously it's good, it's the beatles. +1 star for some all-time classics (I, for one, love And Your Bird Can Sing). But the between-filler songs are a little too out-there for me for this to be a top-tier Beatles album.
very rock opera- mostly i was waiting for Pinball Wizard to happen, but that's a pretty good song.
Almost every song is like "ah yeah, this is a classic for a reason". The run from The Girl is Mine (which i might be alone in loving-it's so fun) -> Thriller (banger) -> Beat It (haven't heard it in a while; forgot how genuinely good it is) -> Billie Jean (unreal bassline) is all-timer. Extremely listenable all the way through. 4.5/5
Just Like Honey is a 4* song, the rest was vibes but no standouts...
pretty good! most of these are new to me, a few hidden gems in there. I liked Breakdown and Strangered in the Night. I like the blues-y stuff too. Tom Petty pretty much always hold up
not too bad. I liked this more than I usually like CSNY; but some of this just reminded me of other, more interesting Eagles songs
It was good but it would have been great if his voice was more bearable to listen to. good new wave / sort of early alt-rock/pop though.
Family Affair is sooo fire. Rest of it was fine too
1. I love New Wave and 2. This album has some absolute classics in it, and even the ones I wasn't familiar with were quite good. I didn't know Broken or The Working Hour but they're very good. And also head over heels is (obviously) just the best.
honestly this bongo album had no right to be as good as it was. probably wouldn’t seek it out again but if anyone ever ws looking for some bongo jams i wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this
Pretty good. Very 70s in a dramatic movie soundtrack sort of way that reminded me of, like, Xanadu or the Beegees Sgt Pepper movie. So maybe not good? But I liked it. Crime of the Century was good.
London Calling (the song) is better than I remember, and the rest of the album mostly upholds that cool+rock+vibe well
Obviously very weird but I liked it more than I thought. The first song was pretty good. Not my usual style though. Some of the ones with like glass breaking noises etc are not so good for casual listening.
I'm kind of over Queen - most of their stuff is just overplayed and/or not that good. That said, Brighton Rock is genuinely really good, Killer Queen is pretty decent and then from there this album just gets worse and worse
YEAH this album rules. I even like (most of) the goofy songs. And any album with I Want You (She's So Heavy) AND She Came in Through the Bathroom Window [AND... many others] is hard to not be at least a 9/10. Listened to this 3 times yesterday.
BABY YOU CAN DRIVE MY CAR (BEEP BEEP YEAH)
pretty good, i was not paying that much attention tbh but would listen again. good background working music
somehow it does feel like a Steely Dan album *but at night*. I actually really liked the first song (I.G.Y.)
better than i expected. kinda rolling stones adjacent
not bad. better than expected, and some of the less-overplayed songs i hadn't heard before and were pleasantly surprised by (almost cut my hair)
banger after banger. even the extended edition added songs go hard (Thunderdome song)
not bad although some songs sound like aliens would enjoy
