not bad although some songs sound like aliens would enjoy

immaculate + timelessly cool sound
ok. bit too grungy
pretty good. i like the 80s take on blues-rock. fav song: legs or i need you tonight (sharp dressed man maybe a bit overplayed). some of the outros felt 5 min long though
I though this was pretty good actually. Closer to 3.5 maybe. I haven't heard much of this side of Neil Young who I can usually take or leave. Pairs well with the Eagles album (I'm catching up).
i forgot how much i like "uh oh, love comes to town". rest of the album is fine, typical David Byrne weirdness. hopefully Speaking in Tongues is on this list too.
yeah this is fire. obviously the first 3 tracks are bangers but I never listen to the rest -- also pretty good. i really liked Victim of Love, haven't heard it as often.
sort of like if jefferson airplane did more drugs and was worse at making music
hmm maybe U2 is good
pretty good. just classic blues. timeless!
listened to this again before reviewing because i forgot all about it and it’s better than i remembered from yesterday. it’s giving nick drake who i am sort of ambivalent about. but at its best it’s better than that and pretty interesting. at its worst it’s just bland. maybe closer to 2.5 on another day but what the hecj
not too bad. i like a new-wave adjacent vibe. Dear God was probably the best track.
ok, not as heavy as some parts of Nevermind which I liked, but in some parts also not as interesting. just not that into the grunginess of it all i suppose
obviously Fast Car is 10/10. the rest of the album very 90s but I liked it! Improves on re-listen as well. Just an immense amount of talent.
i enjoy jazz music :)
pretty good but just makes me think of other, even better Pet Shop Boys songs. the singles on this were not as peak as basically any of their other albums
i like radiohead. this didn't have any major standout songs to me but it's a cool vibe and a slightly different sound from their other albums (all of which I've enjoyed as i discover them)
nice, fairly unassuming, very 60s. for some reason was giving me sesame street vibes
wall to wall bangers per usual from the Dire Straits
pretty cool. i knew/liked some stuff from SZA but never sat down and listened to anything of hers deliberately before. great vocals, cool atmosphere. not all the songs my cup of tea but definitely a cool overall product
this kind of thing is exactly what i was hoping this 1001 albums project would deliver: a new-to-me sort of forgotten classic, only one hit album but honestly it's kind of fire. they're like a weirder, slightly fruitier Duran Duran (& it mostly works).
2.5 stars. was a bit weird but i liked it
pretty good. kinda fun to listen some classic era Johnny Cash that I haven't actually heard before. the live aspect is fun as well, good showman
This isn't my favourite Dolly album- not sure if I've ever listened to this in full before. Still, it's definitely a solid entry into the classic country canon. Most of these songs (title track esp) should be sappy/cliche, but they're so earnest they just work. Travelling Man v underrated twist-ending country song IMO.
Good. I like this kind of motown soul, but this album is not an especially interesting example imo. Maybe I was too distracted while listening? Def not bad though.
I'd probably give it a 2.5-ish, it was ok but not bad. Definitely a bit weird --sometimes in a cool way and sometimes in a weird-bad way.
I liked it ! It's Tricky & Walk This Way still rule. Some of the other songs are pretty goofy -- like that "classic" style of hip-hop that's very satire-able (the alternating words lol) but overall it's still cool
is this what prog rock is? this did remind me of Rush a bit . at first i though this was too weird but I warmed up to some of it...
maybe i'm biased because this is an album that i've heard before but i love this album. it's so fun. somehow it was like my intro to actually enjoying jazz (i think la la land and then this). i still don't understand time signatures.
some real classics but the ones in between were of variable quality
actually I quite liked this one (~3.5 ★) - kind of cool, reminds me of the smiths etc
1st impressions sounds like if KISS could play guitar. 2nd impressions (halfway through the album) sounds like David Bowie. damn i didn't know Deep Purple were doing it like this. this was pretty good actually
I fell asleep midway through listening to this album and doing homework, but it's nice sounding. kind of what you imagine when you think of spanish music
I liked this more than I thought I would - not what I would usually listen to but would listen to again
did not particularly enjoy this. feels like the soundtrack to a bad 2000s movie.
Obviously it's good, it's the beatles. +1 star for some all-time classics (I, for one, love And Your Bird Can Sing). But the between-filler songs are a little too out-there for me for this to be a top-tier Beatles album.
very rock opera- mostly i was waiting for Pinball Wizard to happen, but that's a pretty good song.
Almost every song is like "ah yeah, this is a classic for a reason". The run from The Girl is Mine (which i might be alone in loving-it's so fun) -> Thriller (banger) -> Beat It (haven't heard it in a while; forgot how genuinely good it is) -> Billie Jean (unreal bassline) is all-timer. Extremely listenable all the way through. 4.5/5
Just Like Honey is a 4* song, the rest was vibes but no standouts...
pretty good! most of these are new to me, a few hidden gems in there. I liked Breakdown and Strangered in the Night. I like the blues-y stuff too. Tom Petty pretty much always hold up
not too bad. I liked this more than I usually like CSNY; but some of this just reminded me of other, more interesting Eagles songs
It was good but it would have been great if his voice was more bearable to listen to. good new wave / sort of early alt-rock/pop though.
Family Affair is sooo fire. Rest of it was fine too
1. I love New Wave and 2. This album has some absolute classics in it, and even the ones I wasn't familiar with were quite good. I didn't know Broken or The Working Hour but they're very good. And also head over heels is (obviously) just the best.
honestly this bongo album had no right to be as good as it was. probably wouldn’t seek it out again but if anyone ever ws looking for some bongo jams i wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this
Pretty good. Very 70s in a dramatic movie soundtrack sort of way that reminded me of, like, Xanadu or the Beegees Sgt Pepper movie. So maybe not good? But I liked it. Crime of the Century was good.
London Calling (the song) is better than I remember, and the rest of the album mostly upholds that cool+rock+vibe well
Obviously very weird but I liked it more than I thought. The first song was pretty good. Not my usual style though. Some of the ones with like glass breaking noises etc are not so good for casual listening.
I'm kind of over Queen - most of their stuff is just overplayed and/or not that good. That said, Brighton Rock is genuinely really good, Killer Queen is pretty decent and then from there this album just gets worse and worse
YEAH this album rules. I even like (most of) the goofy songs. And any album with I Want You (She's So Heavy) AND She Came in Through the Bathroom Window [AND... many others] is hard to not be at least a 9/10. Listened to this 3 times yesterday.
BABY YOU CAN DRIVE MY CAR (BEEP BEEP YEAH)
pretty good, i was not paying that much attention tbh but would listen again. good background working music
somehow it does feel like a Steely Dan album *but at night*. I actually really liked the first song (I.G.Y.)
better than i expected. kinda rolling stones adjacent
not bad. better than expected, and some of the less-overplayed songs i hadn't heard before and were pleasantly surprised by (almost cut my hair)
banger after banger. even the extended edition added songs go hard (Thunderdome song)
not bad although some songs sound like aliens would enjoy
really good stuff; surprisingly listenable. i didn't know how many classics were on this album. very good choice to soundtrack my spring cleaning apartment overhaul (was very motivating )
some RS classics but not my favourite of theirs. overall a solid album though
pretty good! never heard of these guys but I would listen again
Very good. I hadn't listened to this album before. You can really hear that 60s era of rock, where it at times reminds me of other artists around then (some songs are giving Bob Dylan rock era).
really liked this, actually. not what i expected at all. very nice & chill, good for an afternoon working session although I feel (arbitrarily) it's more suited to autumn. will probably come back to this though.
honestly a lot better than I thought it would be based on my disdain for Song 2. I liked the disco-y opening track.
Excellent, dare i say underrated album. Vintage Bruce. Not as iconic as some others but definitely in the running for my favourite album of his.
very cool. surprisingly timeless. so many songs on this are very good. 3.5
It was fine
took a lot not to skip through this one-very not my taste, i think
good, but not their best album (as an enjoyer of the Smiths)
not bad, I see why everyone loves this but it's (for me) most often just a reminder of how good the source material is. obviously with a lot of heart put into it, but also just veeery sparse and, ofc, depressing.
fine to listen to but not nearly a standout or as good as the other Smiths albums we've had so far (or their other ones that I enjoy)
didn't like. really not as listenable as their other stuff; wanted to skip which i basically never do
liked her voice. reminded me of somewhere between Alanis Morissette + Kate Bush ?
nothing very standout but i still enjoyed this; playable on any classic rock station (and with the benefit of not being /over/played )
i know i write this in a review like once a week, but Cry to Me might be one of the lowkey best songs ever (case in point it was in Dirty Dancing). Solomon Burke has a really great, timeless soul voice and I feel like is very under the radar compared to the greats
not bad. admittedly i was distracted/working but its listenable without being very standout/memorable
a few vintage soundtrack-y classics; a couple of the covers were just ok to mid; overall a nice fun light listen
very classic beach boys - who are not always my fave - but this is just light and 60s and summery.
not enough sax solos in music these days.
i mostly prefer Paul's solo stuff, but no doubt John was a very talented songwriter. Imagine is a bit overplayed by this point; I enjoyed the blues-ier stuff on this album that I hadn't heard before.
green onions is so fire. the rest of the album is a vibe too. favourite thing about this album is, of course, that Donald Duck Dunn from the blues brothers was the session bass player.
Quite good. I can't believe I'm a Radiohead enjoyer now. Extra +0.5 just for No Surprises
I read that this guy involved with / influenced by the Velvet Underground .. not typically my genre but I did genuinely like some of this more than VU (who I think in general are a bit overrated). I liked this more on second listen.
I always forget how much I love Dire Straits .. anyway, nearly perfect album I think, and even if not Money for Nothing is so good it deserves 5 stars anyway
We are family is a bit too much / overdone at this point but the rest of the album is actually pretty decent disco/dance music if you like that kind of stuff (which i do)
i liked radio free europe
not my thing but i did like the challengers soundtrack
holds up pretty well! i forgot how cool they are
decently listenable! listened on the drive to the cottage. would play a few of these songs again; need to try to figure out what kind of playlist they would go into
i liked it a lot actually. sounds like the soundtrack of a weird movie i’m not cool enough to get
woah didn't know they did cosmic dancer. this album is kinda really good
pretty good actually. first track kind of fire
blissfully short. i really don't go for this genre although this album was at least somewhat listenable
hm i didn’t know i would like lenny kravits music
i liked it
it's raining out and this album is perfect
listened on a rainy day. ive never heard this whole album before. surprisingly (to me) i really liked this. some classics obviously but the whole thing is very cohesive. iconic for a reason. different from what i’ve been listening to lately but in a really great, refreshing way.
orange crush is kind of a banger
fine but is deep purple really good enough to have TWO albums on here? at one point I thought "oh i've heard this song before" nd then realized i was just 9 minutes into the same song. UPDATE: Fuck off 5 minute drum solo
mostly pretty nice, a few songs were a bit boring
funky and good but nowhere near what’s going on
Witchy Woman + Nightingale alone deserve at least 4 stars
for most of it i thought it was a fairly standard brit/punk type deal which is not really my thing. it did get kind of funky and more new-wave-y near the end though which i warmed up to
started off weird but i actually ended up enjoying. also pretty short! nice going David Bowie (rip)
we are devo!!! 2.5 stars
Ok, I get why people say this is the best album ever now. Really really enjoyed many of the songs on here, very cool stuff.
everytime one of these bands comes up i've literally never ever heard of, i'll look at their bio and it says something like "Britain's most famous and beloved band in the last 40 years"
so so good. any album with America on it is an automatic favourite in my book , but I was pleasantly surprised by the b-sides/'filler'. Save the life of my child was kind of awesome. Also Mrs. Robinson gets a lot of play but it's really that good.
not what i would usually listen to but kind of cool actually. very Bourne Identity of course which is the only Moby thing i've ever heard before this
It's a sin is such a banger, rest of it was decent (probably closer to 3.6)
I love early beatles + I'm feeling generous so 4 stars it is
it was ok
Undeniably iconic. I do like the bluesier bits as well. Albums used to be 41 minutes
sucks really bad
normally i don't really like Nick Drake as much as the folk lists/ spotify playlists seem to imply I should. but this was a nice summery listen + a breath of fresh air [real music] compared to some previous recent listens that will go unmentioned... and i like these songs more than some of Drake's top songs
it's giving the 2001 TV spy drama Alias starring Jennifer Garner
not what i usually seek out but pretty cool. a bit long though.
Some classic soul, what a great voice
interesting. not bad, very atmospheric
just fine, pretty generic 60s stuff but not unlistenable
fun + summery + funky although i accidentally listened to 3 remixes of summer breeze
very understated. good as always but not my favourite Bruce album
this was pretty neat actually i liked it. not what i expected based on the brief artist description
i love simon & garfunkel ! the title track is iconic but i forgot about a lot of the other songs. they are quite good even if not up to the singles standard. also i really like the silent night version
Young Americans is good, album is solid, w a few little gems in there as well. Just watch a very david bowie esque movie so this fits in well with that. Lots of saxophone
rather liked them actually. bit beatles-esque (and maybe dylan) but not in a lame pale imitation sort of way
no skips; really really classic stuff. one of my most-listened Dylan albums, probably.
it's giving 3rd wave coffee shop, but i don't hate it. kind of cool ambient music
she had such a classic voice. this album doesn’t have the major standouts but still some good stuff
rather liked this; reminded me of Elbow (another brit alt discovery from this)
hmm it was ok
pretty cool. didn't like all the talking parts but killing me softly makes up for it for sure
cool, I liked it
this sounds like a movie adaptation of a rock musical (with an actor who is not as good at singing). or perhaps the kind of music that a fictional band in a movie would play
i only knew one of these songs (Fever rules 10/10), but this is exactly the kind of Elvis stuff I really enjoy
now THIS is new wave. love this album!!
pretty good. one song sounds exactly like CCR. begrudgingly have to admit that Free Bird is pretty good when you don't have a classic rock radio station or evil American hockey team insisting that it's the best song ever
mr brightside rightfully iconic but the rest of the album is also extremely good (and it’s probably not just nostalgia talking). i have glamourous indie rock and roll stuck in my head now
i’ve been enjoying a lot of the classic hip hop / rap on here as a complete newcomer but this one didn’t really do it for me.
i liked this a lot. sometimes his voice reminded me of hozier, but like if he was accompanied by steely dan or some other 70s coke head
some good songs but a really long album, my god
ooh i love paul simon. Run that Body Down and Mother and Child Reunion are so underrated
eh it was just ok. a bit funky in a not-good way
it's almost good (decent rock music) but Neil Young's voice is so annoying sometimes
very funky although the song where they said googoo gaga x10000 was a bit of a drag
about as goofy as you'd expect given Come On Eileen but it's not a bad time !
i liked it, a decent entry into the mid-2000s/2010s indie rock pantheon
it's almost good, a little too prog rock for me though ( i did wonder what kind of person was listening to this back in the day .... )
i lowkey forgot about this album (aside from Hello, which was maybe a bit too overplayed for its own good ). but 25 has some really good stuff! not quite peak Adele but it definitely has its moments. All I Ask is an instant classic imo
I liked it. Some of the songs were surprisingly ahead of their time, I thought. Beach-Boys-esque but a little rougher around the edges (in a good way)
I like the Talking Heads, and I REALLY enjoy this Al Green cover
cool vibe
Not really my thing (i was putting off listening to this), but not too bad. A bit too heavy, I don’t love the really heavy bass lines but some redeeming stuff
woah, nick cave is like, a lot cooler than i thought? reminds me of sort of a tom waits / leonard cohen vibe but a bit more melodic/musical. also reminded me of ben caplan (iykyk)
I liked it ! some classics and then some funky stuff
it was decent; i mostly liked the singles that i had already heard
the hits are decent but the rest of the album gets old fast, just not my thing
liked this a lot more than the ramones & other straight up punk stuff, much more modern and interesting sounding
it was decent, more interesting than the ramones but still not my fave
this was better than I expected given I don't usually go in for Beck at all
banger album
Not that I really thought Pink Floyd were not good (besides Another Brick in the Wall, which sucks) but I never really gave them a fair try (probably bc of how overplayed the aforementioned song is). My bad! - this album rules.
Lou Reed is cool and all but the second of half of this album really veers off into "goofy (in a bad way) beatles song" territory. Satellite of Love and Perfect Day are pretty good though.
Kind of a perfect pop album. No skips; basically every song has really grown on me / become an all-timer imo.
to be completely honest i really pictured this band being all muppets. i don't know what this says about me but i'm pretty sure this belongs on a muppet show jug band segment
very... overwrought? kind of like if kate bush was more musical theatre-y (derogatory) and also bad at singing and songwriting.
not very good and i didn't appreciate this autoplaying for my alarm at 6 this morning
U2 i owe you an apology i was not familiar with your game
Not what I would usually listen to. I liked the first half which I think was more UK grime- reminded me of UK house parties. Second half sounded (naively) more American/ familiar and less interesting - one sounded exactly like a Drake song (derogatory)
Did NOT enjoy and about 100 songs too many on this album
this was a 2010s instant CLASSIC and for good reason. even the non-singles that i didn't know were pretty good. very specific time and place but top tier for its genre
this is the sort of genre that kind of continually escapes me. it's nice, i like it when i hear it, she has a nice voice obviously, but it just very easily blends from one to the next (and from one artist to another) so nothing really stands out for me.
i don't usually like reggae but this is generally more enjoyable than some of the really famous [overplayed] examples. probably still at least 10 min more than i would prefer to listen for (2.5*)
This is the best Smiths albums that we've listened to on here yet, I think. Imo very cohesive and interesting. Features some of my favourite 'known' songs of theirs and a few in-betweens that I hadn't heard before.
Quite like this album. Very listenable all the way through. Such a cool 60s - pre70s vibe. Can't go wrong with Light My Fire, really.
Not as good as the other album of theirs that was on here but maybe I just wasn't paying attention. Also Song 2 sucks and the Ottawa Senators suck. Just to make it clear.
very cheesy, and extremely mid. tv movie soundtrack level. not particularly interesting or listenable
ok, now I get why Led Zeppelin is so hyped- they *are* that good. I think with many eras of classic rock my enjoyment of it is directly proportional to its distance to blues--this was very bluesy and I liked it a lot
Actually found it surprisingly interesting, some cool melodies, even cool folk-adjacent stuff. Although found the album a bit long and the heavier stuff not to my taste
at risk of sounding like someone who's only ever heard Iron Maiden, listening to their second ever heavy metal album: getting a lot of iron maiden vibes from this...
pretty good actually although i dont always love NY
very fun and 00s vibes with some weird twists. quite enjoyed!
started off a bit shaky but got really cool and groovy
not too bad but not too memorable, really just giving smiths but worse
being a bit generous here but i was pleasantly surprised by this kind of cool new wave adjacent stuff. neat! and tbh i've given 3 stars to albums i was much more "meh" on
idk why but i didn't realize PJ harvey was a woman. seems cool though.
different from the old Bowie stuff but not bad! reminded me a bit of newer solo paul mccartney stuff, a bit weird but obviously with the underlying classic talent
kind of all over the place, different from the only supergrass song I know. but not bad. decent standard issue Britpop imo
it's fine, it's fun, although some of these samples have definitely been used to greater effect elsewhere!
iconic songwriter and iconic album really.
ah ok, now I kind of get why everyone loved the Stones. last RS album on here i was fairly disappointed by, but this absolutely makes up for that -- within 1s i remembered just how absolutely iconic Gimme Shelter is. and i also enjoyed some of the deeper cuts i hadn't heard before.
Definitely not bad but not super memorable. Good old 60s stuff but not a standout for me
pretty pretty good
This is not a perfect album but it isn't NOT the best album ever
this was super cool - extremely cohesive + atmospheric (which is what i like in an album). original but very listenable (in a way that i find the cure sometimes are Not).
very good live album! we love to see it
good stuff! great artist + songwriter all around. blue skies is so lovely
very REM-esque, very 90s. not bad but not necessarily my thing
this was cool, i'm really growing to like Fiona Apple, and I definitely feel cooler and more mysterious for having listened to this album..
Pretenders are IMO very underrated!! Very original, classic sound. Good stuff.
this was cool & fun & i liked it. aside from the one song that sounded too much like a rod stewart song??
There are some eras of Beyoncé that i like but this wasn’t really one of them. Also I accidentally listened to the platinum version so it felt about 30 minutes too long and i had to listen to drake :/
No idea who this guy is (maybe i've heard his name before?) but I liked it ! Sort of along the lines of Eagles + Ronstadt (esp with the Emmylou Harris feature)
this album did have the same song on 3x but i don't even mind because it was a really nice song. we're lucky to have willie, really, an all-time talent for songwriting.
sorry to this group, but.. not my thing.
pretty good! i never listen to the band but i liked it
awesome. good old classic hair metal. great album!
this freaking ruled. had zero expectations but loved this. kind giving shades of sufjan stevens + radiohead
certified Christmas Classic, except for the part where it's "from Phil Spector". can't beat a Motown standard though.
Classic indie 2000s - def worth listening to and good overall vibe. I'm feeling generous so will say it's more like 3.75*
Love a live soul album, especially when you can hear the atmosphere/audience having a great time. Great energy. Would love to see a good James Brown concert doc.
felt like i was in blade runner
loved it , weird in an awesome way
i liked this more than i thought i would!
ugh. it's like if aliens only heard RUSH and though that was how music should be. only redeeming section is the blues song w the organ solo
I never really liked Green Day but it's amazing how much my opinion is softened by (a) listening to a much worse punk-adjacent album right before this one and (b) the non-single tracks that are not overplayed x1000 on CHEZ et al.
there sure is a lot of punk on this list... they can't all be THAT influential right? this was ok (less grating than some other punk albums) but not rlly my thing
i liked it! it's like discovering an early beatles album that I somehow hadn't heard before. although I could have done with out accidentally listenining to the complete deluxe edition which included another 25 tracks
familiar sounding but interesting !
banger after BANGER ! i love ABBA so much.
straight shooter is so underrated
pretty cool
cool: the bluesy guitar solos also kind of cool: extremely stereo sound that moves around (when my one airpod died i thought it was just a stylistic choice though) not cool: the part where JH coughs/sniffs directly into my ears :(
really good stuff. modern classic dare i say? sort of formative for my generation I think
this was very different from what i expected from the beach boys. kind of good though
i liked most of this. it was like an early 2000s teen or spy movie soundtrack
expected much worse from the band and album names, so was pleasantly surprised at the jump. overall not offensive just a bit mid and unpolished
i imagine if i was more of a cheap trick fan this would be like the best album ever, didn’t really know them but very decent !
this was sick af
this was pretty cool but i will not be listening to the US anthem, sorry not sorry
sorry too weird not a fan
it was almost good and then it got annoying
black magic woman is such a banger thank u fleetwood mac
Lowkey this ruled. Obvi title track is a classic, the other stuff is not as iconic but still some really solid pop tracks
you could've give me 50 attempts to guess what this would sound like ( OR even describe post-listen) and I could not even approach the reality- other than EXTREMELY 2000s. Some catchy stuff though
the stones always get associated with the beatles, which made total sense to me historically but i didn’t see a super strong musical connection until this album. good stuff!
if the 70s film soundtrack doesn’t sound like this i don’t want it
sorry but Paradise by the Dashboard Light slaps and so does the glee version i don’t make the rules
nothing standout but not bad
pretty good
I thought I was not going to like this but it's pretty cool
fun and funky! great cooking dinner music. could do without the extended drum solo that played as my alarm next morning though.
ok loved this. kind of the queen of music for ladies who don’t like their husbands. this was more musically interesting than i expected too (not all the same tune like her christmas offerings)
not terrible but why so shouty & whiny
wait is REM good? i liked this
Eh just okay. Not a big PG fan
i wouldn't normally listen to this but it did go off as a soundtrack to my programming work + making me feel like a cool hacker
very nice, i liked it
a bit long but cooler than i expected, nice atmospheric listen for a working afternoon
Meh not my thing
Not my fave. I get the hype for Gin & Juice though
no standouts like their big singles, but overall a cool dreamy vibe. good listen.
don't like. blissfully only 15 min
this ruled actually, too bad Van Morrison died or something and hasn’t said anything lately
i guess this is just the Van Morrison album per day machine now? good thing they’re pretty good
pretty good! very of its time but more than meets the eye esp when i only know them for Veronic Mars
If there's one recent group who can do "album rock" well it's AM ; good, cohesive listen w some instant classic singles
Yeah this was pretty cool
feels very dramatic like a video game soundtrack or something
steely dan they could never make me hate you
I love disco but this was a bit boring ngl. Where if the drama? The groove?
Oh I liked this way more than I though I would - very 2000s cool tv show vibes
Really good and i don’t even like the VU
10 stars just for Bridge Over Troubled Water (and Cecilia, and The Boxer and and….)
