Popular Reviews

One of my all time favorites. Two pop sensations, 4-5 more classics, and then Coldplay's best song (Amsterdam).

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Apr 05 2025

I'm no expert, but my impression is this genre--funk in general and blaxploitation specifically--is filled with forgettable music. Superfly stands out as a solid album top to bottom, plus major hits in Pusherman and Superfly. Mayfield was ahead of his time.

Blood On The Tracks by Bob Dylan
Apr 06 2025

Great writing, but the music--especially Dylan's voice--is not for me.

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads
Apr 07 2025

I like that they have a distinct sound but it's not for me. Besides Psycho Killer. That song is a 10.

That's The Way Of The World by Earth, Wind & Fire
Apr 08 2025

I'd never heard most of this. I didn't like the ballads, but most of it is worth listening to again.

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Apr 09 2025

I've tried to get into Zappa before, but struggled. Listening to this album through, I get it now. I can see how this band has influenced many bands that I love 40-50 years later.

Mott by Mott The Hoople
Apr 10 2025

Sounds like the David Bowie songs I don't like. Not my style.

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
Apr 14 2025

not my style of music. it's fine in the background, but I'd prefer a half dozen other types of jazz.

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Apr 15 2025

I don't understand why The Killers are so big, but this album almost convinces me. Thoroughly enjoyable, and at least three of the songs will sometimes pop into my head out of nowhere--they're a part of my personal soundtrack now. I have to give it 5 stars.

Green by R.E.M.
Apr 22 2025
Live At The Regal by B.B. King
Apr 23 2025

King's of course a legend for his playing, but his raw singing makes these often straightforward blues songs timeless.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac

May 02 2025

One of my all time favorites. Two pop sensations, 4-5 more classics, and then Coldplay's best song (Amsterdam).

Tago Mago by Can
May 08 2025

really like the first 4 songs. And they're pretty long, so I can give it a 3. Augmn and Peking O are hard to listen to.

Live! by Fela Kuti
May 12 2025

some great grooves but not my thing

Autobahn by Kraftwerk
May 16 2025

I don't get it

Clube Da Esquina by Milton Nascimento
May 23 2025

I'm not sure what this was, but I liked all of it.

Guero by Beck

Illmatic by Nas
Jun 10 2025

Top 3 all time

Rio by Duran Duran
Jun 23 2025

This was way better than I expected

Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Jul 07 2025

Would be 5 stars for Ramble On alone, but overall a huge album in every way.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jul 15 2025
Out of Step by Minor Threat
Jul 17 2025

It's hardcore punk but it sounds like music

Music by Madonna
Jul 18 2025
Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Jul 24 2025

War Pigs is the best anti-war song, and one of the seminal songs in the genre from one of the band's earliest albums. Quintessential.

Abbey Road by Beatles
Jul 29 2025

It's The Beatles, but probably my least favorite album by them.

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
Aug 05 2025

I like the jazz, not the samba

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Aug 13 2025

I still don't like his voice, but these are good songs

1999 by Prince
Aug 15 2025
Horses by Patti Smith
Aug 18 2025
Street Life by The Crusaders
Aug 21 2025

I'll come back to this one!

Smash by The Offspring
Sep 01 2025

There's a lot of trash but the singles are all iconic.

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Sep 15 2025

this sounds like a practical joke

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Sep 17 2025

My main complaint with this album is that I've heard it 10,000 times

Hot Shots II by The Beta Band
Oct 01 2025

I can see how it was ahead of its time, but that doesn't make it interesting.

Very by Pet Shop Boys
Oct 08 2025
Oct 16 2025

One of the best albums of all time. IMO the best hip hop album, top to bottom. Hill put everything she had into this, and it shows.

Dec 25 2025

There's a lot to be annoyed by (and some to be offended by) but the work by Slash here is iconic.

Nevermind by Nirvana
Jan 06 2026

Some songs are great, some songs aren't even good.

xx by The xx
Jan 15 2026
Tarkus by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Jan 16 2026
The Cars by The Cars
Jan 27 2026

Boston-level self-titled debut. Despite the fact the two biggest tracks are very similar, the album travels far and wide while keeping a distinctive sound and songwriting style. *Most* of the songs were long lasting hits. I wouldn't call it New Wave because it sounds like classic guitar-driven rock, with synths. And it's one of the best classic rock albums.

Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
Jan 28 2026

Unique and excellent, through and through. This album was a force in preserving an entire genre of music. The themes fit with the music perfectly. Revelator is one of the greatest songs ever.

Jan 29 2026

Maybe half the songs are forgettable, but 4 or 5 are truly great. Elton John still rocks, 50 years later.

Permission to Land by The Darkness
Jan 30 2026

I've never listened through this before. Glam rock that sounds like Lynyrd Skynyrd and AC/DC? Not bad.

2112 by Rush
Feb 16 2026
Ananda Shankar by Ananda Shankar
Feb 18 2026

Barely escapes a 1 but I personally don't know why this needs to exist.

Freak Out! by The Mothers Of Invention

GI by Germs
Mar 05 2026

Not as abrasive as I thought it would be.
