I'm no expert, but my impression is this genre--funk in general and blaxploitation specifically--is filled with forgettable music. Superfly stands out as a solid album top to bottom, plus major hits in Pusherman and Superfly. Mayfield was ahead of his time.
Great writing, but the music--especially Dylan's voice--is not for me.
I'd never heard most of this. I didn't like the ballads, but most of it is worth listening to again.
I've tried to get into Zappa before, but struggled. Listening to this album through, I get it now. I can see how this band has influenced many bands that I love 40-50 years later.
Sounds like the David Bowie songs I don't like. Not my style.
not my style of music. it's fine in the background, but I'd prefer a half dozen other types of jazz.
I don't understand why The Killers are so big, but this album almost convinces me. Thoroughly enjoyable, and at least three of the songs will sometimes pop into my head out of nowhere--they're a part of my personal soundtrack now. I have to give it 5 stars.
