Not necessarily my jam in its entirety but a few great songs. Back in the day I imagine this was sound was quite new / innovative for the time, and it has no doubt influenced many musicians in the decades since, so appreciate the music and style.
It was just okay… the first half just… existed… Dreamer reeled me in a bit for the latter half but it just wasn’t my jam. Some really neat music and sound at times but overall didn’t keep my attention / focus.
Standing out for me were Nightclubbing, China Girl and Tiny Girls, but the rest was just a meh album to me. Not bad but not something I’d give more than a mediocre review for. Enjoyed taking a deeper dive into iggy though as I’d never heard nearly all of these songs.
Not my kind of country. Not my kind of jam.
3.5 but rounded up since I can’t rate half’s. Knew Epic and enjoyed some of the other stuff I’d never heard. Even appreciated the War Pigs cover and was surprised I’ve never come across it. Solid effort overall
I only knew the song the album is named after but it was a great listen that showed me just why Alice cooper has had the long successful career he has! Great album!
Not my jam at all. Not awful but not thing really grabs me or stands out.
No idea how I never knew about this album… but love it
Not the Treasure I was hoping for. I tried really hard to like it, and maybe I need to be in the right space and feels, but definitely didn’t need this in my life
Such an incredible album front to back. One of my faves of the ‘90s.
I wasn’t sure about this at first but got into it - that said I’m down with harder, heavier stuff but can see this may not be everyone’s piece of cake. Great musicially even if you can’t understand the lyrics
I was looking forward to digging deeper into cuts by a group that I enjoy a few different songs from… I was a bit disappointed, though, with the results, and the fact that there wasn’t even one or two songs that really stood out or grabbed me. May give it another listen but just middle ground for me. Would give it a 2.5 but round up to 3
Love this album and some of the diverse sounds. Can’t believe it’s now 25 years old.
Not familiar at all with this before listening / my first uncharted territory for this proeject - but fun listen that I suspect was a bit pioneering at the time
Powerful, beautiful and just a really nice listen. I didn’t expect to give this five stars but a mix of pace with different sound and just a powerful and talented singer make this a great album
This was one of the big ones for west coast rap and one of my early influences that had me get into this. But while I wanted go give it 5 for sentimentalism and loving Dre, if just lacks some memorable quality and some of the “nuts” lyrics get tired. My wife even questioned “what the hell” I was listening to. Love Dre and some of the guests on this but just not five star for me. 3.5 so rounding up
Not the Pink Floyd I’m used to - not necessarily in a bad way though. Just would have been much more fun with headphones on and maybe a lil high. Good experimental, psychedelic set of songs
It may not be flawless, but 1984 absolutely pulls its weight - a defining ‘80s rock record with enough hits and jams to justify its legendary status.
A fun, uplifting and singalong probe album. Not my usual jam but was an enjoyable listen to keep it light and positive
I was kind of looking forward to this as I like a few songs and some of guest appearances by the singer on other artists’ work but had never dug into the discography. Was a bit of a letdown though. Not that it’s bad or anything but just nothing that stood out
The first song had me thinking it might be okay but there was nothing here that really caught me. Just mediocre and not memorable
Violent Femmes’ self-titled debut is one of those rare albums that’s instantly fun and endlessly replayable. The songs are catchy without being slick, raw but creative for their time, blending punk attitude with folk hooks in a way at the time probably felt totally new. Almost every track had personality and even decades later, it still sounds fresh and unmistakably its own — nothing else quite captures that same energy. An easy five-star classic.
A song or two that I might listen to again but otherwise meh. Not that it was bad or anything - I know he’s incredibly respected for his music and contributions- but I just didn’t see anything special here.
Illinois is an ambitious and interesting album, packed with musical ideas and lots of instrumentation. It was more expansive and orchestral than I expected, especially since most of what I knew of Sufjan Stevens leaned toward quieter, folksy guitar songs. There’s real musical value here and moments that are genuinely fun to listen to, but the album is very long and can feel a bit unfocused. While it’s clearly well-crafted, nothing really stands out or feels especially inspiring on repeat listens. A good album overall, just not one that fully grabs me.
A five star classic. Just great all round album.
Clearly I’m not aware of any significant pioneering it it’s there - and I hope there is something I’m missing because otherwise I don’t get it. Repetitive, nothing that really stands out, just nothing on the surface that makes it stand out. I tried listening to some of them more well played songs a second time but just not connecting.
I know they’re iconic musicians but admittedly I didn’t know what I was getting into. The result? I think I listened three times to the album today. Just jam packed with great music and songs that could fill a greatest hits list. Maybe it was my mood, or just plain great music - but 5*.
I respect the importance of
Bob Dylan and his music. But this just wasn’t my jam. It felt like it took forever to get through with very little to make it standout or be significant
This album was in constant rotation for me as a teen, and it still holds up. Elastica brought a sharp, punchy edge to Britpop.
As a majority-female band in that era, they stood out, and you can hear their influence in groups like The Beaches. It’s quick, catchy, and different: a record that still feels fresh today.
A classic that helped pave the way for the grunge alt rock powerhouses of the ‘90s. Solid album and how can you not like “Where Is My Mind”!?
Big Black - Atomizer: 2/5
I did a pre read on this before diving in as I was not familiar with the band or its music. I was excited when it was dubbed a “forerunner of industrial rock” and when I saw a lot of love for this album. Some pretty intense content in terms of the lyrics (although with the tinny and loud music you couldn’t hear or understand the singing at times) and was mostly just ok- Kerosene was great though.
Strangely fun at times and just outright strange at others. At first I was like wtf but some of it grew on me. Definitely an album that could have been upexperienced differently with some type of stimulant - would be an even wilder ride!

Five stars without hesitation. Appetite for Destruction is stacked with songs that still hit just as hard today as they did in the late ’80s. From the grit and punch of “Welcome to the Jungle” to the swagger of “Paradise City,” it’s jam packed with energy, memorable hooks, and lots of attitude.
And the second that opening riff of Sweet Child o’ Mine kicks in? Instant air guitar. Every time.
This is the album that launched Guns N’ Roses into long-term rock dominance. Raw, loud, unforgettable — a debut that didn’t just arrive, it exploded. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
First time listening to more than a one off. Really solid album.
Have only heard the odd song or single by Nick Drake. Was impressed with this and surprised a bit by some of the great musical performance by the band
Wow. Kind of groaned when this popped up but it was quite a surprise. It could have been a greatest hits with the bangers on it. Some good music but some of it blends in terms of sound which is why it’s not a 5. Oh and love the duration - I feel like today it would be twice as long!
Wasn’t sure what to expect and not sure what to say after… a couple of listens and it seemed better listening another time around. Her sound and performances no doubt influenced many female artists.
This still hits like I first listened to it as a kid. Some gems hard and soft. And some of those guitar solos 🔥🔥🔥 11 year old me is digging it
It was like an eclectic temu version of Radiohead
It wasn’t bad - it just was seemingly indistinguishable psychedelic rock that could have been anyone…
At times intense and heavy, others just beautiful. Great music, great songs, and great album from start to finish with some incredible riffs.
There was nothing wrong with this - I just don’t understand why it’s here. It’s more background music for me than something I have to hear…
Hear and understand the influences - but a miss for me with all but maybe one song being less than memorable
I haven’t ever fully dug into an album by them and genuinely enjoyed this. I knew of songs like zero and heads will roll but discovered new gems like skeleton
