Popular Reviews

Heartbreaker by Ryan Adams

Absolute dog shit. Words, almost, fail me. Not a single redeemable feature, plus he's a twat.

Play by Moby

Somewhat enjoyed but disjointed and there's so much better elsewhere.

Stripped by Christina Aguilera

Pleasantly surprised by this solid album. Thoroughly enjoyed it musically and lyrically.

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar

I may be a middle-aged white woman but I do enjoy a bit of rap / hip hop, I just prefer mine with a lot more oomph and significantly less meh. Not for me.

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees

Excellent!

Vivid by Living Colour
Apr 14 2022

Not worth a second listen.

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Apr 15 2022

Excellent!

Rattus Norvegicus by The Stranglers
Apr 18 2022

Was looking forward to this but wasn't expecting it to have stood the test of time. I couldn't have been more wrong. Thoroughly enjoyed this and will definitely listen again.

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Apr 19 2022

Only really known the singles so wasn't sure what to expect. Definitely a little odd but pleasantly surprised.

Roger the Engineer by The Yardbirds
Apr 20 2022

Some catchy tunes but a bit disjointed. Some lovely guitar work but it doesn't save the album for me, not really my thing.

Chris by Christine and the Queens
Apr 21 2022

Not a huge pop fan. Thought this had potential but felt it didn't build on it and fell a bit flat. Oddly, the French versions that followed the English were much more enjoyable so my star rating is for the French version. Don't bother with the English.

Spiderland by Slint
Apr 22 2022

Definitely one for listening with headphones and no distractions. Lyrically wonderful.

On The Beach by Neil Young
Apr 26 2022

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would.

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
Apr 27 2022

Awful elevator music,

Legalize It by Peter Tosh
Apr 28 2022

Really enjoyed this. Hadn't realised who he was but will definitely listen again.

Eliminator by ZZ Top
May 05 2022

This has not aged well.

May 06 2022

Somewhat surprised but I loved this! Will definitely be adding to my playlist.

Winter In America by Gil Scott-Heron
May 09 2022

I wanted to like this, expected to like this but was underwhelming.

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
May 12 2022

Loved the classic singles, but with a repeat listen really enjoyed the stuff if never heard before. Unmistakable Prince and has encouraged me to seek lesser known album tracks.

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
May 16 2022

Always enjoy The Stones, they're classics for a reason but don't often listen to complete albums. I really enjoyed this, particularly the definite blues feel on some tracks. Great album.

May 17 2022

Loved this when it came out and it's as spine tingly beautiful now as it was then.

Psychocandy by The Jesus And Mary Chain
May 18 2022

Dirty but excellent!

Back to Mystery City by Hanoi Rocks
May 19 2022

This was something of a throwback to my past and though enjoyable it feels old, like me.

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
May 30 2022

Never listened to the album before, despite being well acquainted with Blister in the Sun. More than a touch of Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers which is no bad thing. Will definitely listen again.

Savane by Ali Farka Touré
Jun 03 2022

Smooth, I like it.

Slipknot by Slipknot
Jun 08 2022

Not sure why but I was surprised how musically and vocally accomplished this was but ultimately a bit much for my tastes.

Dookie by Green Day
Jun 09 2022

Well, that was fun!

The Hour Of Bewilderbeast by Badly Drawn Boy
Jun 10 2022

I was looking forward to this as have fond memories of when it came out and haven't listened to it recently. It didn't blow me away like it did when I first heard it, though still thoroughly enjoyable, but I'm giving it 4 because of how I felt then, not now

Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear
Jun 13 2022

Not really doing it for me.

Play by Moby
Jun 14 2022

Somewhat enjoyed but disjointed and there's so much better elsewhere.

Country Life by Roxy Music
Jun 15 2022

Really enjoyed Bitter Sweet and Casanova and more than a few songs reminded me of Bowie. Will definitely listen again.

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Jun 16 2022

More interesting than I expected. Definitely of a style but a good reflection of that style.

Graceland by Paul Simon
Jun 28 2022

Loved it then, love it now 😁

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Jun 30 2022

I don't have much of an opinion either way with Elvis but on this album there were some good tracks, a couple of great ones and then a bit meh.

Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins
Jul 01 2022

All killer, no filler 😁

I just couldn't get on with it. May need further listening on a Sunday morning with nothing else to do but until then it's a 2.

Forever Changes by Love

I remember the first time I heard this album. I loved it then and still do.

Gentlemen by The Afghan Whigs
Jul 14 2022

Absolute shite!

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Jul 15 2022

The great tracks still great but the rest, not so much. Feels very dated.

It's A Shame About Ray by The Lemonheads
Jul 18 2022

Wasn't convinced on first listen but second and third time around I really enjoyed it. Good summer vibes.

Odelay by Beck
Jul 19 2022

Well, there's a little bit of everything here. Funk, country, rock and whilst I enjoyed it, it didn't really gel as an album and I know he can do better.

1984 by Van Halen
Jul 20 2022

Definitely one from my childhood and though it did bring back happy memories it's not really a classic. Good fun but no depth.

Snivilisation by Orbital
Jul 22 2022

Excellent album. I particularly enjoyed Quality Seconds.

Protection by Massive Attack
Jul 25 2022

Smooth summer sounds.

Clube Da Esquina by Milton Nascimento
Jul 26 2022

I was excited for this album but was left a little flat. My fault for expecting something I didn't get. It's also a touch too long.

Fred Neil by Fred Neil

Hard to put my finger on why but I really enjoyed this.

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Aug 01 2022

Just glorious

The Wildest! by Louis Prima

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Aug 04 2022

Classic

Doolittle by Pixies
Aug 08 2022

Some absolute bangers, great album. My only negative comment is I wish it was longer.

The Contino Sessions by Death In Vegas
Aug 11 2022

Excellent album, has one of my all time favourite tracks, 'Aisha'. Almost a 5.

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Aug 12 2022

If someone asked me what is blues music, I'd give them this album. I could listen to this all day, and all night.

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Aug 15 2022

Not as bad as I feared.

A Hard Day's Night by Beatles
Aug 16 2022

Some interesting tracks aside from the well known singles but a you on the pop side for me. Good album but not my favourite Beatles album.

Groovin' by The Young Rascals
Aug 17 2022

Wasn't awful, but not my thing.

Screamadelica by Primal Scream
Aug 19 2022

Showing its age but still a great album.

The La's by The La's
Aug 22 2022

Not as dynamic as I'd hoped.

Whatever by Aimee Mann
Aug 25 2022

Some interesting lyrics and hooks but overall, not my style. A little boring.

Darklands by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Aug 29 2022
Different Class by Pulp

Beautiful, funny, clever, sad - loved it then, love it now.

Trafalgar by Bee Gees
Sep 09 2022

Surprisingly beautiful

Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout
Sep 14 2022

Love this sound. Ideally a 4.5

Rock Bottom by Robert Wyatt
Sep 15 2022

This didn't make much of an impression on the first listen but glad I listened again. Oddly satisfying.

Hotel California by Eagles
Sep 16 2022

Classic singles but the rest is a little dull / haven't aged well.

The Message by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
Sep 19 2022
Gasoline Alley by Rod Stewart
Sep 21 2022

I have nothing against Rod Stewart, his distinctive voice lends itself well to the classic hits but this album, on this list, why? Pedestrian at best.

Dance Mania by Tito Puente
Sep 27 2022

Well that was a pleasant surprise.

Melody A.M. by Röyksopp
Sep 29 2022

Started strong but definitely lost its way.

Djam Leelii by Baaba Maal
Sep 30 2022

Beautiful sound but ultimately samey.

Dry by PJ Harvey
Oct 04 2022

Not my favourite PJ Harvey, assume there's better to come.

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar
Oct 07 2022

I may be a middle-aged white woman but I do enjoy a bit of rap / hip hop, I just prefer mine with a lot more oomph and significantly less meh. Not for me.

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Oct 14 2022

Funky! Solid 3.5

The Predator by Ice Cube
Oct 17 2022

Proper, solid, old school hip-hop but it shows in some of the lyrics. Bit less outright misogyny and this would be awesome. As it is, I'll have to just go with excellent.

First Band On The Moon by The Cardigans
Oct 19 2022

I'm not really a fan of her vocal style and it kind of washed over me but pleasant enough.

Oct 21 2022

Always enjoyed the arrangements and Martin Fry's vocals. The singles are proper 80s classics but haven't listened to the album in a (very) long time and was pleasantly surprised. Loved it!

London Calling by The Clash
Oct 27 2022

Probably every genre of music except punk! But accomplished and catchy throughout. 3.5/5

Smile by Brian Wilson
Oct 28 2022

First time I've heard this and it's great.

Bossanova by Pixies
Oct 31 2022

Solid Pixies.

Rapture by Anita Baker
Nov 03 2022

Great voice but doesn't blow me away.

Nov 07 2022

Though some unsettling lyrical themes and references, this record excels at storytelling. Would have been a 5 but for the sometimes distasteful lyrics.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Nov 09 2022

Anyone expecting Born In The USA style Springsteen won't be disappointed. You won't get Born In The USA style Springsteen, but you will not be disappointed. Beautiful, eerie, simple, or made to appear that way, storytelling at its best. 4.5/5

Our Aim Is To Satisfy by Red Snapper
Nov 10 2022

Had no idea what this was or what to expect. Loved it. Aim achieved.

Nov 15 2022

Who doesn't love James Brown, he's an amazing artist and showman but I didn't enjoy the last be aspect of this album. It somehow became less intense and I found it hard to maintain my interest.

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Nov 16 2022

There are better Bowie albums to come.

Tapestry by Carole King
Nov 22 2022

3.5/5

I See A Darkness by Bonnie "Prince" Billy
Nov 23 2022

No clue about this ahead of listening but it's beautiful.

Kenza by Khaled
Nov 24 2022

I went into this with an open mind, wanting to enjoy something new but it just didn't gel. It didn't feel like an album, no connection so, sorry, it's a no from me.

Woodface by Crowded House
Nov 28 2022

I love this album. Massive nostalgia hit 😁

The Visitors by ABBA
Dec 19 2022

Not an album I'd listened to before and not many known tracks but I definitely enjoyed it. Some mature, interesting tunes. I particularly liked the line from 'When All Is Said And Done', "Slightly worn but dignified and not too old for sex". Solid 3.5 that could probably make it to 4 with another couple of listens.

Faith by George Michael
Dec 23 2022
Chirping Crickets by Buddy Holly & The Crickets
Jan 13 2023

Classic but lacking spunk.

Loveless by My Bloody Valentine
Jan 17 2023
Happy Trails by Quicksilver Messenger Service
Jan 18 2023

Didn't grab me. Not clear of significance for it to be on the list.

Jan 20 2023

Not sure if I was in the wrong mood for this but it irritated me from the get go. The 'atmosphere' that others loved so much felt false, overplayed, hammy. I will give it another listen but for now it's a disappointed 2/5.

Jan 31 2023

Was planning to give this 3 stars with a note to say 3.5/5 but, on further listening on the drive to work this morning, it's a funky 4/5.

The White Album by Beatles
Feb 01 2023

The good songs are fantastic and sufficiently outweigh the cringe / mediocrity of the bad to make this a 4.

Metallica by Metallica
Feb 14 2023

Classic and a solid 4/4.5

Fulfillingness' First Finale by Stevie Wonder
Feb 15 2023

I feel bad but this just doesn't do it for me. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, just not for me.

Feb 17 2023

This is excellent. Ethereal and elegant.

Talking Book by Stevie Wonder
Feb 21 2023

Superstition is amazing but can't carry the rest of the album which all a bit meh. 2.5/5

Soul Mining by The The
Mar 01 2023

I feel I missed something but this didn't do it for me.

The Dreaming by Kate Bush
Apr 13 2023

Excellent and weird! Solid 3.5

Blur by Blur
Apr 18 2023
Here Are the Sonics by The Sonics
Apr 19 2023

I kind of get it, but the original stuff is better than covers. What's the point of an album two thirds covers that are not markedly different or better.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Apr 20 2023

I wanted to like this more but 3.5

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Apr 26 2023
Pearl by Janis Joplin
May 01 2023
KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka
May 08 2023
Hypocrisy Is The Greatest Luxury by The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy
May 10 2023

Always new Television but not the band or the album. Loved it, poetry with a beat.4.5

May 15 2023

Had a hard time stringing these tracks together as an album. Maybe needs multiple listens but I kept checking Spotify to see if it was still the same album / artist. 2.5

At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
May 22 2023

One of my favourites. Just fantastic!

Armed Forces by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
May 24 2023
The Blueprint by JAY Z
May 26 2023

Great production, loved the sound but (and I know I'm not the target audience) jeez man, just sshhhh, we get it girls and money. 2.5/5

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
Jun 05 2023

Brilliant then, brilliant now and sadly still lyrically relevant. Solid 5/5

Dear Science by TV On The Radio
Jun 21 2023

Knew diddly about this and had no expectations either way. Now wondering how I missed such an excellent album. Not a single duff track and will definitely be listened to again and again.

Heroes by David Bowie
Jun 26 2023
D by White Denim
Jun 27 2023

2.5/5

Dust by Screaming Trees
Jun 29 2023

Started slow, couldn't really think why it was on the list, but it developed well and definitely grew on me. 3.5/5

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Jul 03 2023

3.5/5

Stripped by Christina Aguilera
Jul 28 2023

Pleasantly surprised by this solid album. Thoroughly enjoyed it musically and lyrically.

Kid A by Radiohead
Jul 31 2023

3.5/5

Remedy by Basement Jaxx
Aug 02 2023

Oddly grating in too many tracks for this to warrant more than 2/5

Repeater by Fugazi
Aug 04 2023

Excellent

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean
Aug 07 2023

I got through 7 tracks, and that was a struggle. This couldn't be further from my wheelhouse. I understand it is accomplished musicianship and production but, to me, it sounds like a parody, like a sketch show, particularly when tough / statement lyrics float over Barry White backing tracks. It's not just Frank Ocean though, I really just don't like this style but it's not aimed at me so, if it yanks your chain, enjoy.

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Aug 08 2023

Showing its age a little but still some catchy tunes.

Boston by Boston
Aug 11 2023

Fascinating story behind this album and a great example of the style. 3.5/5

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Aug 14 2023

How can you not enjoy that voice, and that sass.

My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
Aug 15 2023

I loved this and was surprised (though I don't know why as it is from 1977) how young he sounded. Definitely adding to the playlist.

War by U2
Aug 22 2023
Nixon by Lambchop
Aug 23 2023

Nope. Bored. Must be missing something but I feel like I say that a lot when I don't like something so maybe I start saying, didn't like it, didn't finish it, won't be listening again.

Liege And Lief by Fairport Convention
Aug 24 2023

Not my bag but a pleasant sound.

Coles Corner by Richard Hawley
Aug 25 2023

If I was in the mood for this type of music, and I frequently am, why would I not just play Johnny Cash? Could have been so much more but missed and became nothing special.

Aug 29 2023

I read a review of this that referred to it as a victory lap and I can't shake that sentiment. I loved it. 4.5/5

Aug 30 2023

Only by listening here did I realise I'd never listened to more than the singles. Was pleasantly surprised. Solid 3.

Tidal by Fiona Apple

Never heard of the artist or the album and, tbh, was expecting pop. Pleasantly surprised, most enjoyable.

Some strong tunes but sounds dated. Great for then, meh for now. 3.5/5

Justified by Justin Timberlake
Jan 19 2026

Soooo dated (and shite)
