Kid A
RadioheadAbsolutely brilliant album that I know already. Radiohead at their finest.
Absolutely brilliant album that I know already. Radiohead at their finest.
Probably brilliant and ahead of its time, but didn't quite connect so much
Yeah, you know, very much of its time. And I wasn't really into this type of music. For me it lacks a bit of dynamics. But I recognise it's definitely ground breaking for 1991!
Very good album with a lot of hits, only to be let down by its sound quality and annoying mixing
Some pretty good songs on here. La Grange is a banger. But it's all a bit samey, a bit too monotonous. And the slow song is just plain boring.
The pacey songs are very good. The slower less so.. Until I got to Blue Moon. What a beautiful, haunting track. I've never heard it like this, the original first version. Stunning.
Ah, I have this on vinyl! Let me put it on tonight and let you know.
Really enjoyed this jazz, beautiful compositions
Groovy baby, good song. But by jove, do these records sound awful
OH this sounds very dated and a bit annoying.
Perfection. Amazing record.
Amazing record, well ahead of its time. I've heard so much about it, but I'm so happy to finally get the chance to fully listen to it. It does not disappoint, very familiar sounds and it's been sampled a lot by other artists. Seminal album. Full whack from me! Also, how is this released in 1989?!
Actually really enjoyed this little time capsule. It is a good sounding record that sounds really nice and full. Marty has an amazing voice. It sounds like it has just come fallen out of the wild wild west. Absolutely wild.
It didn't grab me as some of the other prog peers, close to the edge I thought was better. And some of the early Genesis I prefer as well. Not a bad album but just lacked a bit of bite for me.
Swing when you're winning. Taking me back to the old sweaty swingy New York, oh the good old times of misogyny and trumpets. Where everything was black and white and joyous. I guess you need to have fun post war. All things considered, this was a fun listen and I'm glad I did!
Get that air guitar out and go rocking. With a beautiful Tuesday's Gone (covered by Metallica) and Freebird, this album has really grown on me during the weekend. Played it on vinyl, this is really a lot of fun. All banger, all mash!
So, I initially thought it was like Red rain, but then it hit me like a sledgehammer. I didn't give up and started to enjoy that voice again. I wasn't on mercy street when I enjoyed this album big time. In my eyes, this is an excellent picture (birds)
Boring at best. This is an inconsistent mishmash of styles and it's not very well executed. Found myself getting annoyed with these guys. Even after a few listens it never really clicked. I have it on CD, but I won't bother taking it downstairs from the loft.
Masterpiece. Interesting and fascinating all the way through. Weird, wonderful and wicked at time, Mike was only 19 when he made this and he played most of the instruments. It was also the first record to be released on Virgin Records!
Initially very excited by the album, I was let down by a piece of work that didn't feel that well produced. None of the songs really stuck with with me and it felt kind of empty and soulless. She has many great albums, but this one didn't do it for me. I'll just put on the Kick Inside and drift off into the fog.
This is making me feel a lot of good things. What a joy to listen to, it's simple, but so effective. So rich and sparse at the same time. A fantastically simple album with so many hits. It makes so much sense to me now. However, it starts off incredible, but then it becomes a little bit samey - a little bit of variety couldn't have hurt. Hence not the 5* This made less sense to me when it came out.. In the late naughties I was listening to very different music, and catching up with rock and metal from the 90s. So this would have passed me by.
I certainly wasn't cool enough to be listening to this when it came out, and maybe I'm still not cool enough.. All hail to Thom Yorke. This album has always passed me by and never quite hit so much. I would place this among the lesser albums from them. It was made in the time of George W Bush being president and in the aftermath of 9/11. A bit too all over the place, too long, not consistent enough.
1001 Radiohead Side Projects you need to listen to before you die (thanks Oz!) Weird that it comes up with two Radiohead albums IN A ROW. What ARE the odds?! Surprisingly large, way bigger than winning the lottery. Which is kind of how I felt with this one. . Discovering Kid A at a later age, this was and has been a beautiful ride. Totally gorgeous and annoyingly predictable, I have jumped on the Thom Yorke bandwagon. Every song so well crafted. The Wish you Were here of Radiohead. Thank you.
Country rock soothing melodies! Probably quite good for its time and i have listened to it before. It's a lovely cover and I recognise Strength of Strings as a cover from Immortal Coil. Did it land with me? Not so much. But a nice ride nevertheless!
Well, I like the concept. I like a rock opera (American Idiot being one of my favourite albums). However this was just a crazy ride. It was amusing to look into the story, and to find out that there was a musical and a film of it. Glad to have gotten through it, but it wasn't easy. Bonkers mate
Thank you Jenny Lloyd for introducing me to this wonderful band a few years ago. Famously amazing sounding records, these guys really know how to produce an album. Best enjoyed on a good stereo or good headphones, they also sound great on a car stereo or a bluetooth speaker on Mersea Island, where i am currently residing with the family. So, I've grown to become a big fan of The Dan, I've seen Nearly Dan, a marvellous steely Dan cover band live, and it was one of the best live gigs I've been to. This is not my favourite album of theirs, Aja and Gaucho I prefer, as there are a few meh songs on there, despite it containing the biggest hits. Fire in the hole and Kings are not fantastic, so hence the 4*
Oh-Delay, apparently would have been the underlaying meaning of the title of this album. Although it only came out 2 years after Beck's previous album, with the hit single Loser on it. This is a real eclectic mix of style often described as hip-folk, where we can hear Beck's monosyllabic voice rapping and singing. And it's this mix of styles that I couldn't really get on with. I'm glad I listened to it a few times, but this antithesis of Kurt Cobain I could not get on with. Give me Eels, give me Weezer.
Linda Ronstadt's backing band in 1971 went on to form the Eagles! I really wanted this to be good and interesting and engaging, but it wasn't for me. Too much heartache for a man, the songs were very slow and kind of indiscernible. Sorry, this one was not for me.
3 breakups involving 6 people. Sadness. 10 stars.
Such a strong start and a very strong finish. What happened in the middle? The only song I liked that I didn't know was Early Bird. Chug All Night? Really?
I don't think I like Paul Simon. His voice is kind of annoying. 2 Stars for Mother and Child reunion, which is about a chicken and egg dish called 'Mother and Child Reunion'.
Elvis Costello welcoming us to a somewhat dreary and cold Monday working week. What a brilliant opener. It wasn't for me. Couldn't place it well and it all sounded a bit crispy to me. His slower stuff is quite nice.
Really quite an impressive album. I really enjoyed every song of this. Maybe it's because we've have a large spell of albums from '70s men? Regardless, the hits were great, but also the rest of the album was excellent. Sounds very timeless and cool. 5* will definitely play again!
8th Century Islamic Chants? Yes please!
Yes, enjoyed these a lot! Fantastic story telling. I think I prefer some of his later stuff, the last song had a bit of a humpapa feel to it.
Lots of bangers on here. Seminal album that helped shape the way rock looks like now. I hadn't listened to it entirely before, as I don't think I was cool enough when I was 14 unfortunately. Initially it grated a bit on me as his voice can sometimes come across a bit annoying (much like with Vampire Weekend). But after listening to it on headphones it kind of all made sense.
At the time overlooked by critics, this is a fantastic album by Thom Yorke and his friends. A real evolution from Pablo Honey. I was going to give it 4 stars, but upon listening to it again and again, it's up to 4.5, so rounding up to a 5. I just really do not like Black Star, it sounds shrill to me.
As John Peele once said: "It's a bit much for a Tuesday. " Maybe it's a case of 'you should have been there'? To be fair, it sounded okay on my run, but when I was done with running, there was still half to go. A bit long for me and not quite my flavour of EDM
The old school Black Keys! Loved it, but then again I listened to it on a haze of caffeine. Banger after banger. Even the ones I didn't know were great!
I am not really understanding why this album is on here. Much more interesting albums have come out in 1997. Sorry. I did like Gaz' recent solo outing. But this is just a bit too simple.
Dear Nina, I love your loving ways! Thanks, Tim For an album that was compiled from several recordings left over from previous sessions in 1964 and 1965 this feels like a great collection of songs. This was the first album of Nina Simone I have bought and I have played in many many times on dark and moody evenings. Absolutely stunning and I love every single song.
Play this LOUD! Phenomenal piece of music. Tony's drums are hypnotising and it all works together so well. What a joy to have this one b2b with Nina Simone. It ALMOST looks like this list is quite diverse!
Do-wap-ba-ba-doo-ba-ba-da-bam-bang Oh yes, music history was made with this. Great stuff. Very fun to listen to, listening to history, rather than good music.
Fantastic album, taking me right back to working in the Dutch equivalent to HMV called Free Record Shop. I can still remember opening up and closing down the shop, the smells permeating from the next door ice cream shop and the people buying terrible music. Best job ever.
Incredible album of the great Stevie Wonder. There are a few cheesy songs on there, that prevent this from going to a full 5*, but his album Innervisions in my opinion is perfection. What an amazing artist.
