More interesting and jangly than expected. Very eighties. Gets a bit samey but enjoying the percussion. Shame the remastered version is still so muddy in places.
Fantastic, love the production
Good but not nearly as good as her later albums
Not quite but close to his best
Decent - their later ones are better
Heard many times, great but not up there with ah um
A favourite. Hard to believe I have been listening to this for 22 years.
Was excited to finally get something I’ve never heard of, turns out there’s a good reason for that. Bang average dime a dozen boring middle of the road rock that should nowhere near any best albums list. There’s not a memorable or interesting song on it.
Very good, nice to hear again after years - all of their albums have a few weaker songs though, weirdly.
This was unavoidable around the end of the century - lovely chill album with great production and some fantastic bass lines
Pretty good, best unknown album so far. some fairly standard blues/boogie but one or two cool songs there.
Not heard this album all the way through before, it’s not my bag but at least it’s interesting. Enjoying some of the polyrhythms and the instruments used are unusual (didgeridoo was pretty cool). Cool pixies and modern lovers references. Some of it just sounds ugly though - never want to hear Jimmy again.
Always good to hear someone trying out lots of ideas, especially when the charts are full of boring middle of the road slop these days. I don’t understand people on here giving this 1 scores, what’s the point of doing this list if you’re not going to have an open mind? Challenging yourself is a good thing.
Pretty good, well aware of the band and have seen them live but for some reason I never went into their back catalogue. It’s very of its time and a little samey but some great stuff there.
Some of my favourite songs of his are on here (Red Rain) as well as a song I dislike (Don’t give up, I never liked it). A great album though, just a shame it’s so heavy on the synthesizers.
Grunge classic, loved it then and love it now
Very good - so many ideas for a debut album. A band I never looked into in any detail but will now.
A very good album although I was more familiar with the two after and like them better.
Always found black crowes vastly overrated, it’s bang average blues rock. Telling the best song is a cover. They’re ok live though.
I love Zappa - this is not his best album (that would be apostrophe, one size fits all or over-nite sensation for me) but still has to be five stars. I can see why this is on the list with peaches on it but would have liked to have seen some more albums on the list.
It’s... fine. She is obviously a great singer but I feel absolutely nothing listening to this.
Not bad, hadn’t heard this before. Can see some influence on later post punk bands. A little one note in places.
Come on now, five stars. Their first six albums are all timeless classics.
Good album, fun to revisit. He has better / more influential albums. Starting to doubt this list at this point honestly.
First great album I hadn’t heard (all of - I did of course know the two big singles). Loved it, it’s so dense and full of energy and righteous anger. Chuck Ds voice and delivery are great on this.
Very familiar, a very good but not exactly a ground breaking album. Fantastic driving music.
Obviously a legend of the Chicago blues, this album is most likely listed because of the famous recording of Mannish Boy. It sounds absolutely fantastic (and has the great Pinetop Perkins on piano) but I still prefer Folk Singer, or Fathers and Sons.
RIP Ozzy. Good and hugely influential album even if it’s not close to paranoid or master of reality.
A name I’d heard but I’ve never listened to them. It’s alright, some of the songs are a bit weak and the singing / playing not the best. I enjoyed some of the noisier songs and unusual instrumentation
Really not for me. Nile Rodgers is a genius and the guitar and bass parts on this make some of it a worthwhile listen. The keyboards sound absolutely atrocious. Some bangers on here of course but only good on a dancefloor really. As an album it’s rubbish and repetitive.
A classic live album. Their music has always been a bit straightforward for me but there’s no doubting their influence.
It’s cool - some fun samples and really inventive lyrics. Not as good towards the end.
Never heard him solo - it’s good but never particularly great and really let down by the production..
Love PJ - this is near her best. Hope the likes of rid of me and to bring you my love are on the list.
Obviously incredible even if not my favourite of theirs.
Aged superbly -nice to revisit
Good voice but very bland
Very cool but a bit repetitive after a while. Enjoyed public enemy more
It’s fine, she’s a good song writer and great singer but nothing grabbed me
Not as good as surfer Rosa or Doolittle but still good
It’s good but not for me, bit bland
Not a raggae guy but this was very good throughout
Heard before but enjoyed it more this time - still prefer maiden voyage though
I have heard it before as I have been in a coffee shop in the last 20 odd years. She’s talented and has a great voice but it’s just boring. Starting to understand the criteria for this list less and less.
Of course it’s great but not as consistent as their best albums. Love ventilator blues.
Only very vaguely aware of this band - and they’re fantastic, finally this list is coming good. Sounds like a bit at times like sonic youth, fugazi, toadies, at the drive in, trail of dead.
Not heard of her but a real talent. Music not for me, too much show tune influence.
An absolute belter I was very familiar with already. The production on this is impeccable
Always quite liked Erykah Badu’s singles but I get bored listening to a full album. There’s good melodies here but it doesn’t really add up to more than just chill background music. The weird vocal delivery in some songs got on my nerves after a while.
Their good album. Loved it when it came out and still do now, only notable thing is the production is muddier than I remembered. Shame how they developed from here, their recent albums are just unlistenable to me.
Not for me and definitely not worthy of this list but some decent pop tunes on it
Nice to revisit, never liked di’anno’s vocals as much but all the rough ingredients are there for the classic stuff.
A classic of course. Album tracks (how do you sleep a special stand out) are actually miles better than the famous two songs on this.
Really not my thing but there’s real skill and lyricism here and the Americans are underrating it severely for their own dumb reasons so giving it an extra star
It’s great but my favourite will always be pink moon
A classic only marred by my least favourite stones song (wild horses)
Still good, production sounds a lot harsher than I remember.
Fat of the land is so much better
It’s well recorded and has some good playing. If you like chill background music this is cool, I find bossa nova dull and irredeemably repetitive though. 34 minutes that feels like and hour and a half.
Not their best - still great
I am not a hip hop guy but this is a classic
I like Ash, they’re a fun band to see live and this album is pretty good. Shouldn’t be anywhere near this list though.
Maybe the author wanted to add an album to represent Northern Ireland but even then there’d be the undertones, stiff little fingers and them.
Exceptional sounding recording
Some cool samples but I don’t like her voice, delivery and lyrics. Gets dull very quickly.
I totally forgot about the thrills until today and have seen them live more than once at festivals. Dull then dull now, so bland it sounds like a bad pastiche of folk rock.
New to me but familiar with the band. Don’t understand the hate for this - it’s clear that they were ahead of their time and heavily influenced industrial music.
Challenging at times and not something I will put on a lot but has lots of interesting moments. I’d rather listen to this a hundred more times than subject myself to that bloody Adele album again.
