1001 Albums Summary

A childhood favourite, kinda dated at times but anthems like Kids Are Alright and My Generation have withstood the test of time.

One of the Three Kings of Rock and Roll.. along with Chuck Berry and Jimmy Reed. Some tunes I never heard before that took me to a rockabilly joint downtown where the cats are cool and the chicks are hip.

Wicked, love the Stones but especially this era... UK version seems to be a bit better than the North American release

Not really my cup of tea, however it had some good hooks.

I've spent the greater part of my adult life chasing bands with pedal steel guitars, fiddler and banjos... sadly depriving myself of heavier music like this. Gotta listen to Metallica more often. Much more often.

I liked this offering from PJ Harvey, kinda' missed her years ago. Jangle folk... i need to hear more, definitely going into regular rotation.

Summer of '76... this album turned the heads of many kids my age. Rick and Roll genius at the time, a little age-worn today.. but a classic nonetheless.

Sounds too much like Harry Chapin or Neil Diamond. I know people who might like this but its not in my wheelhouse.

Couple good ones here. Black Tambourine especially.

Cindi Lauper? A poster child for the music that I despised in the 80's. I'll give it a listen to see if time has changed my mind. Well.. the first song... was a surprise. Money Changes Everything is just a good damn song. The rest included some nostalgia for the mid 1980's but overall, still not a fan but not a hater either.

Finally some country music to play. Reminds me of 1970's small towns and AM radio. Love it before listening 12 songs about heartbreak, loneliness, love, alcohol abuse and marital problems. One of the saddest albums I've heard lately.

Another blockbuster from 1976.. except I disliked it back then. Several songs were massive hits on mainstream radio so I skipped them as much as possible. 50 years later, I didn't mind it all. Maybe not in rotation but not something to be ignored. Very good songwriting, musicianship incredible.

Not first thing on a Monday morning... nope. After lunch music. Classic album from my youth... there's still a couple songs in regular rotation in fact.

Rolling Stone's best Christmas album of all time... I love Spectors Wall of Sound take on these Christmas classics. Especially the Ronettes' songs.

Classic... early rock and roll. Ain't That A Shame is one of the best songs ever.

Another album from my misspent youth. Many hours were passed listening to T-Rex... great to take a deeper dive into tracks that seldom see the light of day. Guitars, guitars, guitars.

I like shoe-gazing, this one was good enough to add to the rotation.

Not a fan of hip hop but this record goes a long way towards changing that attitude.

Love Green Day, always have, probably always will. A modern masterpiece... urban decay... physical and mental set to a snotty, scorching punk rock beat.

Where was I in '78? Still hadn't left the bosom of CanRock and 1970's FM Radio result being, I missed a ton of music! Like Big Star... the album is spectacular at times then disjointed at others, still sounds good 47 years later. My young self would appreciate older me listening to this band more often.

Classic southern rock from the '70's. Part of the soundtrack of my life.

I heard this record when I was 14... I knew right then that Jimi Hendrix was someone to be admired. Fast forwarding 50 years, im still inspired when I hear it.

5/5... Such a great record. This has been a favourite for many lifetimes.

I wanted to like this one, I really did. Not as though I've never heard of the Kinks, this record is on a few lists of seminal rock records. Not to my taste sadly.

What a surprise, older me liked this immediately... younger me standing off to the side, petulant look on his face. I am adding this one to rotation. Great sound, studio band sounds terrific of course, but Aimee's vocals are spot on for the most part and the songwriting is decent enough.

I liked his earlier stuff better, but there were a couple good songs.

I was listening to this one in high school in the late 1970's . A classic among classics.

It's ok

When a guy who's spent his life as a successful, professional musician tells you to check out a band, you do. Dallas Good from The Sadies told me to check this band out but specifically the work of Roky Erickson.

Country and Western music? Hmm. Volume 2 got sort of close but not really.

I wanted to like this... but didn't.

I liked this one so much I downloaded it... missed it the first time around.

Ok, not his best in my opinion but his work with Crazy Horse is more to my liking.

Brilliant live set, this record was my first exposure to Deep Purple. When I finally got around to buying Machine Head, I was blown away.

The 60's... I was there at the end but still too young to know anything. This was ok, they had good songs but the presentation of them gets lost in the era.

This record has served me well, from the drug-fuelled sonic trips of the 1970's to today's appreciation of the American blues influence on British music... the musicianship of all 4 fellows is astounding.

Reminds me of the 70's and a much simpler life.

Wow... i heard about this record however didn't give it a chance until now. Fantastic!

Its late 1978... I'm at a local record store 'cos I heard a song on the radio of course. Pre-internet that's what you had to do. I'd heard of them but never actually LISTENED to them before that day. The music guru at the record store sold me this album based on me describing a song about going to Memphis and being on the dole! Rest is history. Great album.

Well ok is the first part, not a fan of it so that's my bad I suppose. But once the "Hawks" join Robert on stage it gains momentum for me and ends very well. Saw him twice in the 90''s at a couple of excellent shows.

Another blast from the 70's... early Eagles with Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner were definitely more country-leaning than the Joe Walsh/Tim Schmidt version. But they were and still are part of the soundtrack of my life.

As a kid growing up discovering music from friends and the radio, i had no idea of what the blues were or sounded like. So FM radio led me to Layla and eventually this record. Its okay.. no shortage of wanking however. There's better and there's worse.

Classic from the teen years... three songs in a row were all giants to the gang I hung out with... Elected, Billion Dollar Babies and No More Mr Nice Guy.... still get airplay from time to time. This "bar band" worked their asses off... gotta admire that.
