Popular Reviews

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens

Impressive that he did all the instruments himself, but why is it so soft and twee and choral in a really annoying way. And why did it have to be so long.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Feb 24 2026

Yes!! Love this one. The Highways of My Life is one of my favourite songs of all time <3

Fleet Foxes by Fleet Foxes
Feb 27 2026

This album's fine. There are definitely some Beach Boys Pet Sounds vibes, mixed with CSNY and Simon & Garfunkel. Which should mean I'd absolutely love this. But to be honest, every song sounds quite similar and none of it jumps out. I don't hate the sound, it's just a little bland. I think I would've loved this in 2008. The cover is gorgeous though. 6/10

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Mar 03 2026

The further into this album I got, the less I liked it. First couple of songs were fine, not amazing but okay. But by the time I got to Pretty Mary Kay, I was so done with the dreamy vibes and his voice. I had never heard of Elliott Smith and I now know why. This is not my thing.

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
Mar 04 2026

This is a hard one to rate for me. I need to be in a certain mood to really enjoy this (a late night with a glass of whisky maybe?). It definitely deserves more than 3 stars but I don't entirely feel like it's a 4 star album.

Berlin by Lou Reed
Mar 06 2026

Love many of the instrumentals, but Lou Reed's vocals really really grate on me. This album also seems to lack some coherence.

Different Class by Pulp
Mar 07 2026

When I was younger, I might have found these lyrics edgy or funny even. Now, I just find them really creepy. There's a self-hatred and self-importance simultaneously oozing out, which really rubs me the wrong way. Shame, because I do really like the music! That has a sparkle, diversity and coherence I really enjoy. This dichotomy makes this album really hard to rate for me. But I think the vocals and lyrics irk me so much that the music itself can't make up for it enough.

Beyond Skin by Nitin Sawhney
Mar 08 2026

More like modern art than just music. Not the easiest to listen to, but I'm really impressed. Definitely a journey.

Dust by Screaming Trees
Mar 09 2026

It's fine. Entirely unmemorable.

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Mar 13 2026

Shit, why have I never really listened to Janis Joplin before? I've always liked her hits, and this album's a banger!

Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Mar 14 2026

Not sure if this is really a five-star album or it's nostalgia on my side. But since I'm rating for enjoyment, it's five stars for me! This album was great to rage to as a teenager and it's still great now.

Os Mutantes by Os Mutantes
Mar 15 2026

Not sure what to think of this. Weird as fuck but kinda catchy and cheerful too. Don't think I'll listen to it again though.

Songs From A Room by Leonard Cohen
Mar 16 2026

Yeah I really don't get why people like Leonard Cohen. His voice is so droning and there's no melody to it. The only okay song on this was the Partisan, and that's because of the woman's voice in the chorus. I can't believe so many of his albums are on this list. I'm not looking forward to the others.

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Mar 17 2026

Quite fun, catchy. Don't looove his voice but it's okay. Band is really tight. Don't like the cover. 7,5/10

Maverick A Strike by Finley Quaye
Mar 18 2026

I don't hate I, it's quite mellow and smooth but around halfway through I was just a bit bored with it, even though I really liked it at the start. Meh.

Pictures At An Exhibition by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Mar 19 2026

Yeah this is cool. I think people forget the synth had only just come in. For example, the Beatles first used one for Abbey Road in 1969, so all this was brand new. Of course bands like this wanted to experiment with it, and for audiences, this would have been amazing to see live. I really like it as a funky take on classical music.

The White Album by Beatles
Mar 20 2026

Such a weird one for me. This has some of my favourite Beatles tracks (Back in the USSR, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Martha My Dear, Blackbird, Helter Skelter), and most of my least fave ones (Wild Honey Pie, Piggies, Long Long Long, Revolution 9). It's still such a great album though. So even though it might be my least favourite Beatles album, that doesn't say much because I love them so much. They're really finding their own styles on this one, which I really appreciate.

Heroes by David Bowie
Mar 21 2026

I've never really liked Bowie (his hits are okay) and this album hasn't changed my mind. I like a lot of the instrumentals, but as I read the reviews, I get the feeling that most of that is Brian Eno's work. I'm looking forward to getting those in this list now. I really hate Bowie's nasal voice, I feel the album would've been better without vocals. I appreciate the art of this album though, I just feel it could've been better.

Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta
Mar 22 2026

They're doing some cool stuff on this album but it makes me so anxious. I don't need more anxiety in my life, I need less...

Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes
Mar 24 2026

First song is a banger, but the rest of the album got a bit boring. I don't hate it, but it's missing a spark for me.

Central Reservation by Beth Orton
Mar 25 2026

Chill, nice, really good. I love this and will definitely listen to more by Beth Orton.

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Mar 26 2026

I didn't expect to enjoy this album as much as I am. Mr. Brightside is now stuck in my head, of course. This album has all the hits that were overplayed on the radio, but I have to say they are fun. Yeah I like this album.

Bert Jansch by Bert Jansch
Mar 27 2026

Man with a guitar. Just chill folk, nothing really amazing but its nice.

Back In Black by AC/DC
Mar 28 2026

Music with Rocks In. I do wish there was a bit more variety. All the songs are bangers, and AC/DC rocks, but that's all they do.

The Specials by The Specials
Mar 29 2026

I liked this at the start, but started to dislike it more and more. Ska is fine for a song or two, and after that I'm really done with it.

Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper
Mar 30 2026

Good roadtrip rock. Really liked it and I might even bump up the score on a relisten.

Mar 31 2026

I love Queen, but I don't think this is their best album. It's great though.

Apr 02 2026

I've never loved Nirvana, but always thought they were fine. However, this album really showcases how Kurt Cobain really can't sing. I feel really bad for his throat, especially on Pennyroyal Tea. This album has done nothing to change my mind on Nirvana, but it's my first Nirvana album in this project, so maybe the studio albums might do something for me.

Very by Pet Shop Boys
Apr 03 2026

Gay synth pop! I'm here for it.

Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk
Apr 04 2026

Pretty cool jazz, great for a rainy day

The Grand Tour by George Jones
Apr 06 2026

Zeikerige country ballads. De paar meer upbeat nummers waren oke, de rest kan me echt gestolen worden.

Fear Of A Black Planet by Public Enemy
Apr 07 2026

I'm probably the opposite of the demographic for this album, but this fucking slaps. I love all the sampling and the relentlessness of it all. There's so much anger, but it feels like it's directed into action instead of violence. Never thought I'd like an album like this, but I love it! This is exactly why I do this challenge.

Apr 08 2026

I'm glad one of the reviews said this album only has 12 songs. The link brought me to a double lp on spotify. I'm too happy this is over earlier than I thought for me to give 3 stars. I dislike his voice and the music just doesn't grab me. This project has already shown me that I can't really stand singers who can't sing and Billy Bragg is one of them.

Teen Dream by Beach House
Apr 13 2026

Nice, dreamy vibes but doesn't really get boring. I like the repetitiveness (is that a word) within songs, it sucks me in and let's me vibe along.

Shake Your Money Maker by The Black Crowes
Apr 15 2026

It's not really bad, it's just so generic. I feel I could hear this band at a free festival and like it well enough with a drink in my hand but never think of it ever again.

1999 by Prince
Apr 18 2026
Homework by Daft Punk
Apr 19 2026

I don't my the repetitiveness, but for some reason the music is grating on me a bit. Maybe I need to relisten when I'm in a different mood.

Apr 20 2026

I heard this album before, but couldn't really get into it then. I think it's really great now! A bit weird but in a good way. Definitely needs more listens.

Illmatic by Nas
May 07 2026

This is cool! Songs seemed to blur into each other a bit though, but I need to relisten when I'm more focused. On relisten bumped this up from a 4 to a 5, this slaps.

May 08 2026

I feel like I should love this more than I do. It's a bit too dreamy in the vocals, missing a clarity and an edge that are there on other records in this era.

Snivilisation by Orbital
May 11 2026

This tickles my brain in just the right way. Turns out I love repetitive electronic music.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
May 12 2026
Street Life by The Crusaders
May 13 2026

Very pleasant, very unremarkable music, except for the title track, which is an absolute banger. This makes it quite hard to rate for me, but I don't think the title track makes up for the rest of the album, and we are judging these by the album, not by the hit song.

A Little Deeper by Ms. Dynamite
May 14 2026

What a nice surprise! This album is great and I love her voice. Might bump it up to a 5 after a couple of listens.

Off The Wall by Michael Jackson
May 17 2026

I think I'd love this album if it wasn't sung by Michael Jackson. I really enjoy the disco/funky vibe, but I've always HATED his voice and all the hee's, ha's, and uhs EVERYWHERE. Why does he do this all the time, it's too much!

Under Construction by Missy Elliott
May 20 2026

Pretty cool, but I'm deducting a star for the spoken bits.

Tragic Songs of Life by The Louvin Brothers
May 25 2026

This sounds so whiny... I gave up when I checked how many songs I still had to go and I was only just over halfway through. Not my thing!

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
May 26 2026

Ugh I've always likes some Stones hits but never thought their albums were any good, and this one proves me right. I have no idea how they were as big as the Beatles.

Lust For Life by Iggy Pop
May 28 2026

Saw there was a song called Sixteen and did not necessarily like this, but let's see how old Iggy... Oh fuck noooo you're 30 bro. Don't. Just don't. As for the rest of the album, it's not really my thing. It sounds subdued, and production is pretty messy. Maybe this was intentional but I don't love it. Reading that Bowie had a big hand in it makes sense, I don't love his stuff either. Okay I'm at Fall in Love with Me, and was thinking about giving this album 2 stars, but him singing "You're so young and pure/and you're young at heart" just ruined it. Ew.

Blue by Joni Mitchell
Jun 01 2026
Jun 10 2026

I enjoy the beats, don't like the misogyny and homophobia. I think I'll stick to listening to Eminem's greatest hits every once in a while.

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Jun 12 2026
Ramones by Ramones
Jun 17 2026

Blitzkrieg Bop remains an absolute banger (with some THPS3 nostalgia). The rest of the album sounds just like it. It's good but it does indeed get repetitive.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jun 20 2026

Impressive that he did all the instruments himself, but why is it so soft and twee and choral in a really annoying way. And why did it have to be so long.

Jun 25 2026

Nice, more chill than I expected, but I don't love the vocals. Solid 3 stars.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Jul 07 2026
Jul 09 2026

Didn't necessarily need to talk about Jesus but did really enjoy this album. It's groovy, funky and chill.

Don't Stand Me Down by Dexys Midnight Runners
Jul 10 2026

I don't really get the hate for this album. I wouldn't have included it if I were to make the list, but I enjoyed listening to it. A solid 3,5 for me.

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Jul 11 2026
Smile by Brian Wilson
Jul 13 2026
Station To Station by David Bowie
Jul 19 2026

This has a lot I like, musically. But then Bowies horrible voice comes in and I'm turned off again. I see that I felt similar about Heroes. Guess I'll never be a Bowie fan, but I can appreciate some of what he does.

Liquid Swords by GZA
Jul 20 2026

I've had some really great hiphop in this list, but this one didn't really keep my attention. Every song sounds similar to me. I suppose the focus is on the lyrics, but I'd like it more if it was more musically diverse.

25 by Adele
Jul 21 2026
1989 by Taylor Swift
Jul 24 2026
Gold by Ryan Adams
Jul 29 2026
Live! by Fela Kuti
Jul 30 2026

So good! Do I rate this including the drum solo, which is a bonus track that was added on a later reissue? Without the 16(!) min drum solo this album is a solid 5 stars for me, it's fantastic. So much energy, great rhythms, love it! I think I'll rate without the solo, since that was not on the original album. If I were to include the drum solo, it'd be 4 stars. It's amazing drumming and I appreciate the skill, but I just can't really enjoy listening to long drum solos.

B-52's by The B-52's

Arular by M.I.A.
Aug 05 2026

A hard one to rate for me. This was relentless and hard and loud for me. But I really appreciate the mix of styles. This sounds like nothing I've heard before and doesn't sound like the other music from this era. I totally see the creativity and admire this album, but wouldn't really listen to it again.

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails
Aug 08 2026

Horrible, anxiety-inducing noise. It's like sandpaper in my ears. Why so angry?
