Reviews (page 15 of 15)

The complexity of melodies and harmonies cannot be overstated. A very palatable level of weird.

Incredible start to a great career

still amazed at her voice and creativity after so many years and one of the first and best concerts I did go to in Milano

Odotin paljon pahempaa ja siinä mielessä iloinen yllätys. Muutama kiva ralli, mutta ei jatkoon.

Definitely get the artistic value and futurism of this album, but it does not land for me as a listener probably due to my personal genre tastes. Lots of avant-garde house music fusing a variety of genres to create a new sound. The album seems like I'm listening to Bjork experiment in her studio and transitioning from idea to idea until something clicks. The journey is worth the listen even if the music doesn't speak to you personally. Stand-Outs: Like Someone in Love (of course, it's a Jazz standard with a harp rendition, pretty cool), Violently Happy

Didn’t do much for me.

my mam bought me this album for my 14th birthday! it's incredible

It's got variety but none of it's good.

It took me a minute to decide how I feel about this since it's so avant-garde and weird, but I decided I really like it. I think it's really well-done, and her voice is gorgeous. Venus as a Boy is really good, and I probably wouldn't listen to this toooo often but I'm gonna save it on Spotify. Four stars!!!

One of the greats

bit weird not a fan

Visionært, dancepop, 90’er, vild vokal, avantgarde

Connor: I've never actually heard any Björk so far so I've been really impressed with this album! All I knew of her was her reputation as a little bit of a 'quirky' singer but this album is a lot more dancy and catchy than I thought, and it goes really well with her singing style. Imogen: yeah it’s my favourite Björk album! really like Human Behaviour and Venus as a Boy

Really diverse set of songs, and not off the wall weird just unique

Björk on vaikeeta musaa ja aika usein se ärsyttää outoudellaan, mut tää levy miellytti kokonaisuudessaan

A 3 is generous

I feel like calling this "unique" is dismissing it a little, but that's the word that comes to mind. Bjork has a very powerful, versatile voice, and the production in spots is still fresh. Very trip-hop. Kind of loses mean in the later half of the album. Favorite tracks: "Crying", "There's More to Life Than This"

So this is just straight-up as good as everyone says it is. Björk's voice is iconic, of course, but I'd never listened to a full project and therefore had never heard the pure range. I don't mind albums that veer all over the place, style-wise, but it's usually a rather personal enjoyment. The transitions between songs here are just objectively good, even when they are between crooning and live-recorded club tracks.

You need to be in a certain state of mind to listen to this album, but when you are..... It's perfect. 7.5/10

I honestly wasn't sure if I liked this album when I listened to it. There are parts that are grating, but other parts that go HARD. She really has a way of communicating pain with her voice. I ended up saving quite a few tracks from this, so it must've been good?

A great debut, but quite a bit outshined by her other works

I liked the song Venus is a Boy
