Pavement
2/5
Never got the fuss for pavement, crap lyrics and bog average noise

Pearl Jam
5/5
One of rocks greatest debut albums. Still sounds as good as it did the day I got it at makin tracks and sat on the bus home blown away. It has no weaknesses and it’s easy to say the big songs are out of the way early and it drops off. If anything it gets better especially once we get Alive out of the way. Give me Porch or Garden anytime over it. And then there’s Black - one of the finest “love” songs ever written in my mind. A stone cold classic album and testament as to why this band remains bigger than ever 30 years later.

Arise is a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lyrically it’s a bit silly at times but still holds up in terms of their playing

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

10cc
2/5
A fairly forgettable 70s rock album
Guns N' Roses
5/5
Probably my most listened to album of all time. I’ve never tired of it, still sounds fresh, all killer and no filler - a game changing album for me musically - I could rave on for hours about it - the easiest five stars I will ever dish out on this
LCD Soundsystem
4/5
Takes a little while to click but a great album and comeback
Beth Orton
3/5
Gorgeous voice but all a little dull really
Fleetwood Mac
5/5
Pretty much close to perfect as albums go
The xx
3/5
Really like the XX - better live than on record tho
Underworld
2/5
Far far below the standard set by their previous album - all very dull really with only a couple of good tunes
Cornershop
1/5
Awful stuff, dull, forgettable and even their “best” song needed fatboy slim to remix it into something worth listening to
Sheryl Crow
3/5
All perfectly well put together, a couple of nice tunes and a couple of wee crackers
The Crusaders
1/5
Absolute garbage - elevator music by numbers
Radiohead
3/5
Some amazing tracks such as everything and national anthem but a lot of it leaves me cold - gimme the Bends any day of the week
Aerosmith
5/5
Stone cold classic - had me grinning ear to ear as hadn’t listened right through in years and won’t leave it as long in the future
Oasis
4/5
A brilliant debut - not quite the full five for me
LL Cool J
2/5
Great MC with very average lyrics and music - very dated even in 1990
David Bowie
3/5
Actually got something out of this album - some great tracks
Ravi Shankar
1/5
Awful - not for me
AC/DC
4/5
Some classic songs and a brilliant album but some repetiveness stops me from throwing out the full five
Billy Bragg
2/5
All a bit self indulgent and dull really. Nice but dull.
Joni Mitchell
3/5
All very nice. Glad I saved it to Sunday
The Yardbirds
1/5
Garbage - found this really hard work
Elton John
4/5
And to think this guy would get the chance to back up Years and Years at the Brits in 2021.
A brilliant album with some absolute classics and rarely a missed step
Marilyn Manson
3/5
Some really good songs. Music to sit at the front of the city hall to.
Radiohead
4/5
I never took to this on release originally and I think I’ve skipped an album which based on three listens yesterday is right up there in terms of Radiohead’s releases - wonderful stuff
UB40
1/5
I detest the band and the sound - garbage
The Police
1/5
I’d sooner be arrested
The United States Of America
1/5
Absolute rubbish - could barely make it through - worse than the prunes and that’s all that needs said
Paul Revere & The Raiders
3/5
Surprisingly decent - or maybe I’m desperate for this for awful run of albums to end and this was simply better than the rest recently
Yes
2/5
No.
Motörhead
2/5
Not deserving of a one but this was hard work - repetitive and dull - never got the fuss and a live album won’t change my mind
Erykah Badu
2/5
Clearly talented and some nice little moments but far too long and it drags very quickly
Kid Rock
3/5
Nowhere near as bad as made out - enjoyed some parts of it and had me laughing at its stupidity at many points but after the run on this group that was no bad thing
Cocteau Twins
3/5
Knew the name but had never heard any of their music - pleasantly surprised and might go back
Sly & The Family Stone
4/5
Really enjoyed this - a few absolute killer tracks and nothing here not to enjoy
Scott Walker
2/5
Some nice songs especially in the second half but his vocal style is that of a cruise ship crooner - not for me
Dexys Midnight Runners
3/5
Nirvana
5/5
This is an easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me. A concert that will still be talked long after we are gone (although I’d argue Alice in Chains unplugged is a better set for the unplugged format) it cruises to a five on the strength of the covers alone - Lake of Fire but especially Where did you sleep last night which just gave me goosebumps for the trillionth time this morning 😍
Sonic Youth
2/5
Probably their most accessible album for me - Sugar Kane and a couple of others are decent but not much else going for it
Björk
2/5
Overrated - always has been. A couple of ok moments such as big time sensuality but by and large terrible stuff
The Pogues
2/5
Minutemen
4/5
A real surprise of an album. Knew some of this and loved Mike Watts bass and the guitar playing. Was never a chore despite the sheer number of tracks and has an awesome sound throughout
Bauhaus
3/5
Really enjoyed this
Pentangle
1/5
Basket of Shite. The worst yet.
Megadeth
3/5
Brilliant playing of average metal songs
Marvin Gaye
4/5
🍆🍆🍆🍆
The Byrds
2/5
A few little moments but ultimately a forgettable listen
Nina Simone
4/5
A wonderful voice and occasionally the cliche of an album “taking you somewhere” is true, no more so in this case
The Smiths
4/5
Brilliant stuff
Rocket From The Crypt
2/5
Scream, Nicky, Scream
Babylon Zoo are more deserving than this lot
Public Enemy
3/5
Brilliant in parts but has dated and Flavor Flav takes away from things at a number of points
Eurythmics
2/5
Spiritualized
3/5
Decent stuff but not sure I’d hurry back for more
Iggy Pop
3/5
Turbonegro
3/5
Great guitar music - lots of fun
Metallica
3/5
An experiment that I’ve no doubt was amazing live - doesn’t hold up as well on record despite some amazing moments
The Go-Betweens
1/5
Dull and bland
Pavement
2/5
Never got the fuss for pavement, crap lyrics and bog average noise
Roxy Music
2/5
Virginia Plain and a couple of other ok tracks - but disappointed as kind of hoped there would be enough to make me want to explore more - there wasn’t.
Bob Dylan
1/5
Well past his prime and was never a fan of him in his prime - can’t even go to 2
John Lennon
3/5
Some wonderful classic songs and some total filler
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
There’s a five star album hidden in here once you cut through the filler
The Fall
4/5
Brilliant stuff - will be back for more
Jane Weaver
2/5
Nowhere near as dreadful as the name and cover suggested
Manic Street Preachers
3/5
I never enjoyed this on the level that I enjoyed Generation Terrorists or Gold Against the Soul
Pearl Jam
Electric Light Orchestra
3/5
Only the length holds this back from a 4 - some brilliant songs and some filler that can grate
Crosby, Stills & Nash
3/5
Started poorly and was thinking it could use some Neil Young as all a little twee but got really good before tailing off
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
2/5
Hard not to like a bit of Tom Petty but this record lacks any real memorable tunes
Sugar
4/5
Perfect indie pop
Neil Young
4/5
This is Neil on form. Great stuff
The B-52's
2/5
Cream
2/5
Björk
1/5
As always - garbage
Missy Elliott
3/5
There some decent stuff in here - definitely of a time but it really drags after a while - could have done with some quality control and stripping back the number of tracks
Pink Floyd
5/5
Flawless
Faith No More
5/5
Kraftwerk
2/5
I can get why this was innovative at the time - hasn’t aged well at all though
The Stone Roses
5/5
One of the greatest debut albums of all time. It’s influence spanned far and wide and it barely has a weak moment - an easy five stars
Dwight Yoakam
1/5
Liz Phair
2/5
Depeche Mode
4/5
Wonderful stuff, sags a bit at points preventing a five for me however worth noting it contains one of my all time favorite songs
U2
5/5
Their career high point. A huge leap on from the Joshua Tree. The album belongs to the Edge and the guitar sound throughout this is just brilliant - an easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Soundgarden
3/5
As much as I love Chris Cornelll and his voice, listening reminded me how bloated this album. Interspersed with some brilliant tracks is quite a lot of dull songs. Still enjoyable but way down the list of albums I’d recommend for someone wanting to listen to Cornell
Def Leppard
5/5
The album that got me into music - not a bad song on it - perfect start to finish
Simon & Garfunkel
2/5
Gang Starr
3/5
Ray Price
3/5
Found this strangely endearing and enjoyable over all ….. hard to dislike any of it. Lyrically it’s actually really good too - feels like a country Sinatra and I enjoyed the fact it had a theme running through it
Fatboy Slim
3/5
Solid enjoyable dance music
David Bowie
2/5
Another album done and still don’t get the fuss
The Byrds
2/5
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
Eminem
5/5
A total step forward from his debut - lyrically brilliant, amazing production, dark, twisted, funny - a proper hip hop masterpiece
Van Morrison
3/5
Orbital
4/5
Lovely stuff start to finish - Halcyon and on and on being an absolute standout track
Frank Zappa
4/5
Enjoyed this a lot - free flowing guitar and a great sound in parts.
Pixies
4/5
Their high point, four or five classics and only the fact that it tails off a little towards the end stops it from getting five stars
Slipknot
3/5
Surprisingly diverse and some great tunes - lots to enjoy
4/5
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
4/5
Really great stuff - great sound and voice - a good surprise
ABBA
2/5
Won’t visit again
Green Day
4/5
For what it is - it’s at the top of its game - I always liked this album and listened to it a lot when it was released - it’s ironic that for this album is their high point - Longview is a fucking banger and there’s a few other proper tunes on this too
Lou Reed
3/5
Some classics interspersed with some average but far far more enjoyable than I expected and will definitely revisit some of this
Fiona Apple
2/5
Violent Femmes
3/5
Really enjoyed this - great bass sound and lots to like here
Paul McCartney and Wings
3/5
Brilliant in parts and ok in others but never bad
Metallica
5/5
Brilliant evolution of their sound - amongst their greatest
The Cardigans
1/5
Insipid
Bonnie Raitt
2/5
Bland, generic 80s tosh but inoffensive and avoids one star
David Bowie
4/5
Finally a Bowie album I enjoyed from start to finish - great stuff
Isaac Hayes
3/5
The Doors
4/5
Lambchop
2/5
Barry Adamson
4/5
A brilliant surreal genre defying album. Part sleazy lounge music, part funk, part jazz - will be back for more
Tom Waits
3/5
Some wonderful lyrics and music and whilst his voice can be challenging to listen to, it was worth the effort and some tracks were really good
Van Halen
2/5
I love a lot of 80s hard rock but this just felt built specifically for MTV. Jump is a great throwaway tune and I like Panama but the rest of it left me totally cold
The Strokes
5/5
Effortlessly cool, this band played a huge part in my life music wise in my twenties and still do today. As fresh now as it was then even though it wears every influence on its sleeve. An absolute joy to listen to from start to finish - how many tracks are just nailed on killer songs ? Tore up my rule book in 2001 in the same way Nirvana did ten years before. Utterly brilliant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Pharcyde
2/5
Fun hip hop with some well put together beats and rhymes - less of the skits though
Manic Street Preachers
3/5
The beginning of the end for a great band
Beatles
4/5
Hard to fault despite a couple of proper wobbles. Songs like Eleanor Rigby are simply untouchable. Probably my favorite Beatles album
Neil Young
5/5
A beautiful and timeless record, one of those albums that I never get tired of. Grew up with this album so I hold it close to my heart. Easily Neils finest moment although I’d say he would disagree. From the wonderful lyrics through to the guitar and orchestration it’s just flawless.
Foo Fighters
3/5

4/5
Wonderfully mental with brilliant production and great rapping and bonkers lyrics
Sex Pistols
5/5
Still vital. A classic.
The Chemical Brothers
4/5
A brilliant debut that holds up today, a testament to them that they have six albums even better than this
Dr. Dre
4/5
Of a time for sure but still has some absolutely brilliant moments and tracks
Paul Simon
2/5
CHIC
3/5
Spiritualized
5/5
Wow - an album I always read about in the late 90s and everything have should have told me to listen to it properly. I went back in a few months back and I’ve no hesitation in paying forward and giving this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Johnny Cash
3/5
Really enjoyable but not even his best prison album, let alone studio work
The Beach Boys
2/5
