Oasis

Basic musicianship. Nonsensical lyrics. Derivative. Guitars are mud.
Absolute masterpiece

George Harrison

There’s probably a 4 or 5 star album buried in here but I’ll be damned if I’m gonna spend another 2 hours trying to find it. A more selective approach might’ve resulted in a shorter, better album. All things must pass quality control

First track great. The odd one is pretty good.

Leonard Cohen

Great fun. God of Thunder and Great Expectations are just too much though and take away from the rest which stay just the right side of ridiculous.
Femi Kuti
3/5
Some good fun tracks, can see myself dipping back into it, but doubt I'd ever listen to the whole album again
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
Just too bleak for me. Sounds underproduced. We get it, there are unemployed people in America, play Born to Run and shut up about it ffs
Blur
5/5
The first half of this album is as good as pop music gets. Sensational. The second part loses momentum , but still has This Is A Low and To The End to pull it round. Easy 5 stars.
Fats Domino
3/5
Liked everything on here. 2 or 3 absolute crackers
The Zombies
2/5
Liked the first track and a couple at the end. A lot of nonsense on there in between though

Sub standard faux-Britpop waffle for the most part
Elvis Presley

Has its ups and downs. The vocal on Fever is amazing. Dirty Dirty Feeling & Such A Night are undiscovered gems.

Leonard Cohen
5/5
An incredible listen. Really bowled over by it from start to finish. Fully felt the weight of a man facing the end. Superb.
Dr. John
3/5
An easy 3 in the end. Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya Ya, Walk On Gilded Splinters and Jump Sturdy are all great. Not bad for an album with only 7 songs on it. Groovy in the purest possible sense. ✌🏼
Youssou N'Dour
2/5
First track is great. The rest is ok. Tough for Western ears to get. One star for the musicianship + one star for my white guilt.
Beatles

There’s probably a 4 or 5 star album buried in here but I’ll be damned if I’m gonna spend another 2 hours trying to find it. A more selective approach might’ve resulted in a shorter, better album. All things must pass quality control
A Tribe Called Quest

Christina Aguilera
4/5
Ironically, for an album called ‘Stripped’, it could easily have lost half the songs on here and been a 5 star album. Some great tunes on here but it’s too long. Decent pop album that didn’t need to be over 75 minutes long.
Wanked myself raw to the Dirrty video back in the day, too. 👍🏾

Bought this on CD back in the day, and listened to it quite a bit. Through modern ears it doesn’t sound great, and, when you think about it, the whole thing is pretty ridiculous. These cunts are from Dublin ffs 😂
The Wikipedia entry is full of facts that make you shake your head in disbelief
“ It was released on 27 May 2003 and quickly achieved success in Ireland, spending 61 weeks in the top 75 of the Irish Albums Chart.[12] The album also won 'Album of the Year' at the national music awards” 🤦🏽
“ The album was nominated for the 2003 Mercury Prize but lost to Dizzee Rascal's Boy in da Corner.”
“ The song "Santa Cruz (You're Not That Far)" was ranked by Q Magazine at number 550 on their list of the 1001 best songs ever made”
“ The song "Say It Ain't So" appeared on US President George W. Bush's iPod in 2005” 😂

Genesis

I’ve been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn’t understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins’ presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group’s undisputed masterpiece. It’s an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I’ve heard in rock. Phil Collins’ solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist.
