Ballad king, bit of a mixed bag. Some really good, but also some forgettable tracks.

When you get an early morning message declaring excitement at the day’s album, you know it’s a good ‘un. So good, I played it over and over.
Quite enjoyable from King Louis
Actually quite enjoyed this - didn’t expect to at all
Inoffensive, often bordering on dull, but with a cosy familiarity. Nice end to the week’s listening.

Not my thing, didn’t make it past the first track. Sorry to say.
Ballad king, bit of a mixed bag. Some really good, but also some forgettable tracks.
The covers are fun, but the novelty soon wears off.
One overplayed title track, two more plodding hits, all in all a bit dull from Ozzy and gang.
Not as good as I thought it might be. Couldn’t listen to the whole thing.
Quite enjoyable from King Louis
Michael Stipe sounds older here than he is now. Snooze..
Not my thing.
When you get an early morning message declaring excitement at the day’s album, you know it’s a good ‘un. So good, I played it over and over.
Enjoyable romp from young Iggy and gang.
Yep
Enjoyed this. Some craziness, but that’s to be expected I guess.
Something warm and familiar with these standards. Not likely to listen much again, though.
Couldn’t get into it at first (singles aside) but tried again cooking dinner. Enjoyed it much more. Very good - liked the toilet song, especially.
Was alright. Unlikely to listen again.
I don’t want to talk talk about it.
Wasn’t into them at the time, don’t feel like I missed out. Some nice tracks tho.
Nope
Best so far...although it’s not the Bends, it was the “best album ever” in its time. Good old Oxford (Abingdon) band.
Fun!
This ride took me nowhere, sadly.
Only knew one song prior to listening - great album. Uplifting.
Please and thank you
Lemmy knew it when he sang “it’s all the same to me” - after the title track it was hard to tell the rest apart.
Like a bit of Green Day
Good, set me off on a journey listening to her other stuff.
Nice easy listen. Liked the vampire song.
Some nice stuff
Loved some of it, but the rest was a little disappointing.
A truly wonderful album.
Great for a Monday!
Considering their obvious influence, I thought I would enjoy this more than I did. Shame really.
Jazz plus jazz equals jazz
Enjoyed this - heard of it but never listened.
Liked one song.
Absolutely wonderful
Like the song, the rest was decent background music
Love this. Wonderful album.
Not what I expected. Don’t really know much of the Brothers Gibb, aside from the disco stuff, but enjoyed this melancholic effort. A bit McCartney-esque in places.
Fun.
It’s a no from me.
Not for me
Oh that was so good. Only knew the first track, nice to discover “new” music this way. Dirty bass.
Pleasant enough
Not for me, sorry
Inoffensive, often bordering on dull, but with a cosy familiarity. Nice end to the week’s listening.
Meh
Between a 2-5 and a 3 for me
Really enjoyed this.
Meh.
Thought it was going to be really good, sadly it didn’t quite match the expectation. Shame.
Just made me think of the Simpsons. What a looong song. Decent enough background music.
New to me, quite liked it - going to have a listen to their other stuff 👍
Really not my thing
Can’t go wrong with a bit of Sam
Can’t listen to it - really not a fan
It’s alright
Really enjoying listening to this one.
All sounds the same. Just can’t get into them.
Started off well enough
Some crackers, and what a great backstory for the album. Not my usual thing but enjoyed this ‘supergroup’ offering.
Not for me
I get it, but it’s not for me
Great cover, but then you should never judge an album by…
Didn’t like them at the time, changed my mind now
Only knew one song of his previously, and this was a lovely listen.
Some good stuff
Crikey that was long. My tendency to overcommit won out, and I’m pleased I stuck with it, as this band was completely new to me (will be checking out their shorter efforts). Some beautiful songs but also some forgettable fillers, especially as the album went on. He has a great voice. Particularly liked Nothing Matters When We’re Dancing, Grand Canyon and I Don’t Want To Get Over You.
Not for me, but I gave it a go.
Think I prefer some of his others - but this is fine
Enjoyable
Aaah, Nina Persson, pop-rock goddess of my teens. Bit of a mixed bag, although enjoyed listening again after all this time. Completely wiped the Iron Man cover from my memory, interesting reworking.
Interesting. Some decent tracks - she has a great voice.
Obviously it was going to be great with Mr B involved.
Think it got better as it went on. Only know one other song of theirs so was good to hear this.
Biased, but I love this album.
Knew more of these than I realised.
Fun, shouty punk rock.
Fun
An inoffensively pleasant listen, but I get flashbacks of a long drive to Scotland with just a Byrds greatest hits CD playing on loop every time I hear their tunes.
Better than I thought it would be.
Bloody love this.
3.5 ⭐️ like a secret track, this one was decent enough
Superb.
Really enjoyed this, not listened to their work before and it was a good starting point.
Omaha sounds like it could be Michael Nesmith - it gets an extra star just for that
How did I not know that’s Sting on Money for Nothing? What a wally.
Actually quite enjoyed this - didn’t expect to at all
Bit disappointing, to be honest.
Reminds me of an old friend who I haven’t seen in a long time. The most positive thing I can say here. Not my thing.
I was introduced to this one by a good friend (one of his favourites). It is absolutely wonderful from beginning (the intense, slow-march build of the 10 minute title track) to end (most beautiful version of Wild is the Wind). Enjoyed listening again and again.
Pretty much what one would expect. Was a long one, but fair play to her for creating this.
Between a 2 and a 3 - today I am rounding down.
3.5
Gallows humour with this, whether on purpose or randomly selected on this date. A couple of great songs but not enough to make me want to give it a second listen.
Music - 3 stars Cover art - 4 stars
With added ginger. But not for me.
Enjoyed this. Some beautiful tunes.
Given that the last track is so so good, I was a bit disappointed with the rest of it. May need another listen.
Completely new to me. Enjoyed much more than I expected to given the genre, and will be checking out his other work. Love the cover art as well. Decent discovery.
Bit like the Monkees in places (strong Mickey Dolenz vibes). Might have another listen.
I feel like I should like this more than I do.
Someone loves this. Good for them.
Nah.
Interesting story behind the album. I think I am listening to it in the wrong environment to fully appreciate. Not really my thing, maybe in the summer.
Around the World is so good that it saves it from getting just the one star. Surprised at how little of this I enjoyed.
Managed to listen to the whole thing, which is usually impossible where this group is concerned. Better than I thought it would be, Sabotage getting the extra star.
Fair play to their commitment and musicianship. Really not for me, though.
Short but epic. Wonderful stuff from Mr Hannon and his marvellous melody makers.
Not much drama, to be fair
Long.
Enjoyed this.
Really not my thing, but much more listenable than some of the others offered up.
It’s Beck. Always a good listen.
I took his advice and stopped once I got enough.
I wish this had come up before now, as I feel I have slightly overlooked and under-scored the other Cohen albums offered up so far. He certainly has a way with words.
This is the album I always see in charity shops. Not for me.
Long, but then there’s a lot to include! Not a jazz fan but she is phenomenal.
It sounds very familiar, but I’d not heard of him or this album before. Interesting but sad story behind it.
They were fairly exciting at the time, and this is a pleasant enough listen. The singles were all great but didn’t carry across the whole album. Just don’t go back to Bicester.. 3.5
Longer than it needed to be.
Bit disappointed with this. I remember liking ‘Not if you were..’ at the time but never listened to the album. High expectations not met.
Fun wears off quite quickly.
It’s a doggy dogg world, and we’re just living in it.
Overrated sh*te
New to me. Definitely needed to be in a certain frame of mind to stay with it, and I am there right now. That’s the beauty of this whole exercise, when it happens - music that has been there this whole time, waiting to be discovered and appreciated.
New to me. He sounds a lot like Micky Dolenz. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.
Well this was a treat. I don’t think I really appreciated Aretha enough, but this was incredible. Perfect listening after a challenging few days. The music, her voice, the lyrics, all coming together to create a wonderful aural experience. Sent me down an Aretha avenue of sound.
I confess to not having heard much of the Sparks repertoire, but if they get Queen Cate performing on stage with them at Glasto then they must have something going for them, right? Enjoyed this a lot. Went and had a listen to more and discovered a collaboration with Franz Ferdinand. Superfantastich!
Gilmore Girls is all I know about this chap. Some nice use of bass in a few tunes. Not enough to make it stand out though.
I really want to rate this higher but it’s not doing it for me. Perhaps a kind extra .5 of a star as I head off to listen to Yoshimi..
3.5
Great background music to work to. Not sure of its place in this list, though. Better than some of the other offerings tbf.
Bit of a mish-mash, with contrasting styles being more prevalent here. Was always going to be a challenge to present something as incredible after Rumours. Sisters of the Moon is superb, and the title track is a record-breaking hoot. 4 stars for me.
Loved this when I first got into them in my teens (not thaaat long ago, honest). Me then would say 5/5 however the grown up cynic in me hears this differently. Perfectly serviceable but had forgotten how many covers there are on the album. Good clean fun for the hit parade but (and I feel bad for saying this) sweet but slightly bland. 3.5.
One of my best friends at school absolutely hated Edwyn Collins, which I thought was a bit harsh. That’s about as much as I contribute to this. It’s fine, nothing setting my world alight. Plenty of saxamaphone. Upbeat.
Love it. One of those albums I can listen to with no skips, with a wonderfully electrifying end.
Just what I need this morning, shouty and angry with heavy guitar.
Never listened to an album by Sting and co, actually pleasantly surprised.
Can’t be objective here. No apologies.
Two top tunes, the rest are okay.
Heard of the band but never listened before. Sounds a bit McCartney on the vocals. Was alright but unlikely to check out other stuff.
Jarv is king.
Two of their very best bookending some more forgettable tracks.
Damon, the musical magician.
It’s not a 5 but also not a 4. Behind Beetlebum and Song 2 are some really great tracks and showed how much Blur had evolved musically. I’m biased as I love the band, and it was a great antidote to the Great Escape. There’s even a little Bowie plagiarism thrown in for good measure.
First listen to this, heard about them from a friend but never took the chance. Will definitely have to check out more of their stuff.
IMHO 2 of the best Stones songs on this album.
Jazz Police - what a bop
