I'm not a big fan of the old school hip hop, but I can see the appeal of this album. They have a pretty clean and fresh take on the genre for the time.
10cc did it better
I fucking hate classic rock. There are some decent songs though.
This would be good for anyone that likes the beastie boys.
This album was a lot more fun and free than I thought it was going to be. Pretty innovative for it's time.
Decent, but nothing too bold or game changing
Good musician and lyricist. It's tough getting used to his raspy voice though.
Great vocals mixed with a great mixing track. Side A has a lot of energy and variety. It gets a little slow towards the end of the album, but the instruments perform CPR to keep it alive to the end.
Swing and a miss. The instrumentation was cluttered and the vocals were drawn out and sloppy.
Slow dreaming trap with slick vocals make this an easy listen to get your groove on.
Visions is a dope song. Both production and vocals have strong and weak points. I like the more mellow songs, and the upbeat songs don't hold up as well.
Complete 180 from Brother in Arms. I hated that album, so I went into this one also expecting to hate it, but I am glad to be wrong. It has a lot of Lou Reed vibes and has a good flow throughout the album. Favorite song is probably wild west end.
Uninspiring lyrics, whiny vocals over a generic edm beat. Hussel and come around are catchy songs, but overall pretty amateur album.
Changes is a great song. Well done album with big hits and gives breathing room on the off tracks. Just not my cup of tea.
Good vibe album, but pretty 1 dimensional. A lot of the songs sound alike, with very slow breaks.
I can smell the BO of the crowd through my headphones. If you are into a lead singer that sounds like they smoke 3 packs a day and multiple guitars that go full speed non-stop, then this is for you
Album with the big hit no woman no cry. Overall a nice ragaee album. I don't know the history if this set the bar for ragaee or anything like that, but nothing really stood out to me as being bold and unique. Good background album though.
I don't like metal.
They are talented, but it's a mix of Mexican music and classic rock so it's just a double whammy for me.
Not as good as the album Original Soundtrack (I own on vinyl), but still a good and fun album with unique themes
Old doo-woppy classic rock. Nothing peaked my interest.
This is slightly more elevated than a dollar bin album, but not more than a $2 bin album.
I do like some primal scream. Fun listen
Close to a 5. Very strong start, but it doesn't stay full steam the whole album.
Good groove album. Some sounds have a trippy undertone like monkey in your soul, but some swing and miss.
I found it to be mostly annoying, chanty, mumble classic rock.
I thought their would be a 0% chance that I liked this album, but it is actually a really good album... Which makes me want to strangle every radio DJ that plays sharp dressed man 20 times a day, but never plays anything from this album.
Teachers is a smart and strong song. That one song proves Leonard is the real deal. Strong album, but not a strong as you "want it darker" by him before he died.
Interesting hearing the start of the Elvis revolution. Elvis's debut album is mix of slow intimate songs sprinkled with high energy hip shaking songs. Not a cohesive album, but a good listen.
I like the ambient synth driven tracks. The album is pretty tame overall.
Strange, but clever album. I didn't hear anything ground breaking, but it was edgy, flowed good, and didn't have any bad songs.
So bad.
Half of it sounded like a football marching band and half sounded like 50s jazz. Could be a good album for anyone into that music.
Has "I shot the sheriff" which is a good song, but overall, much weaker than John Martyn or Cat Stevens.
I wasn't a fan of breakfast in America, so my bar was low, but it was actually a pretty good album. It's not far off from pink Floyd's the wall.
Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Not quite my vibe, but not far off. I wouldn't judge someone too harshly if they were into this.
This album got away with highway robbery getting on to this list. I'm sure this is supposed to be a transformative exotic album, but it's mostly pretty cringy.
80s synth pop that falls short in delivering anything worth relistening to.
I enjoyed the minimal jazz approach, solid song structure and writing. Much more enjoyable than I was anticipating.
I heard the name Iggy pop many times but this is the first Iggy pop album I listened to and I was not impressed. At least on this album, he comes off as a try hard David Bowie wannabe and doesn't find his own groove
Solid album with some quality hits. Nothing wowed me too much, but no duds either.
Nope. Not for me. This would be good for anyone that likes AC/DC
I think the production is underappreciated in amy winehouse's music, but her vocal ability adds a nice icing to the mascara running cake
Pretty boring. Mostly feel-good stadium rock that is stale and doesn't go in any direction.
If you like playing Elvis at 1.5x speed, then you are in luck with this album. This album has "great balls of fire" which I was never a fan of, but I know it's popular so if you like that song, give this a shot.
I could never get past the dudes voice. Lyrically decent and humorous but a little too on the nose for some songs. Not a fan of the garage band instrumentation.
Synth-tastic. However, it is missing an artistic flair. It would blend in with any synthwave album released today. Technically impressive for the time though.
Banger after banger after banger. The only downside is it is a short album at 30 minutes.
I bet this was on a lot of high school girls cd players, but it's not on my cd player
I am a big Nick Caves fan and he has some albums that are 4s and 5s, but this album didn't jump out from the background.
If her album dirty computer is also on this list, I will probably give that a 4, but this one is a 3 for me.
Fun and funky album with some solid tracks. On the other hand, there are some stale tracks in there as well.
Even listening to the remastered version, it sounds like there was 1 microphone next to the hi-hat. Even looking past that, nothing from this album impressed me.
Each track evolves into it's own character while maintaining a dark and solemn theme throughout the album. It's haunting, it's beautiful, it's lonesome, it's wholesome.
Since I am a sucker for post-punk music I was excited to listen to this. I looked at the cover art and thought it was meh, and sure enough the music was pretty meh.
What's ironic is the song on stranger things is the least strange song on this album. Very forward thinking and adventurous album that takes some big swings and makes contact more than misses. I hope this opened up the eyes of some young bucks discovering this album into the wonderful world of art rock.
Really lame album. I never got the hype for this album. They are literally rapping nursery rhymes. Very edgy
I am not a fan of classic rock, and a lot of the songs on the album are pretty lame.
There was a song about different milk shake flavors and I'm like what the fuck is this shit and I looked closely at the album cover and noticed the big clock chain. Is that flavor Flav! From flavor of love?! Terminator x and the production were decent, but flavor Flav made it dumb
Whimsical and soft. Album doesn't go too bold anywhere in the album and the mixing is super quiet. It's hard to latch on to the vocals.
The synth integration blended in well, but the song development felt forced on many of the songs.
This barely scrapes by with getting my seal of approval, but it got it. It has good a good ambient punk rock backbone with strong tracks, but as an album it felt hollow.
A decent take on classic country, but nothing jumped out to me.
Solid song arrangement that spans several genres with creative songwriting that doesn't get stale throughout the 69 songs
I prefer this much more than the Byrd's sweetheart of the rodeo. Solid country to have going in the background.
Hollow, bland, repetitive lyrics. I like the groundwork of the song mother but that was way too repetitive for me to like it.
Started out strong, but dips pretty low on a lot of the tracks. This album gets crushed when put up against John Martyn solid air, hall and oates luncheonette, or cat Steven tillerman
Oozing swagger from top to bottom. Good energy and flow throughout the songs. James brown exudes confidence and has great crowd interactions
Stupid album. There are some fun doctor lines on the song intros, but the raps and production are lame.
Lots of nu wave vibes with mediocre midi tracks.
There is no doubt that he is a skilled musician and knows to create songs that will get people out on the Big Joe's Tavern dance floor. However, I would not be one of those people on the dance floor.
It is a solid R&B album, but I didn't hear anything timeless or unique from any other good R&B album.
There were some decent tunes, but the lyrics were pretty clique and it was a stagnant album. There are lots of good synth pads and tiffs though. It deserves to be on the list, but just not my list.
Mostly lame as fuck. Uninspiring overall. Might be just a few years ahead of it's time because it's like they are almost getting to a good groove.
Boring. Dull. There are plenty of good ambient albums and this is not one of them.
Bland, but decent if it is playing in the background.
Definitely more pleasant to listen to than most classic rock albums. However, I still don't think I will be seeking this out for another listen in the future
I didn't know there were so many blues heavy tracks on this album and that intrigued me. However, they are all literal filler tracks sandwiched between the two radio hits at each end of the album.
The official album of Nascar tailgate parties. This might be a hot take, but I think this is almost as trashy as kid rock.
Great album. Groovy, funky, lots of hard and fast tracks with catchy hooks, and smooth transitions into strong instrumental ballads throughout the album. Superfly!
"I've been here, I've been there, I've been everywhere". Was this written by a 12 year old?! Every song follows the same boring recipe with the exception of some interesting riffs and hooks. However, that is not enough for me to recommend this album.
It's got dem skiz-its. Does a pretty good job of transitioning from skit to song and dre did a good job with production. Some of the lyrics are a little weak and old school, but not bad for 93.
Nope. Still not a fan of run DMC and old school hip hop in general. These raps sound like something you would hear in a d.a.r.e. program to try to be relatable to kids
Nope. Still not a fan of classic rock. However this was better than I was expecting.
Close to a 4. I can tell there was a lot of influences from Jefferson airplane and Brian Wilson. However, I don't think this one was a sum of it's parts.
Bummed out because it is so close to be a really good band/album. The vibe is great, but the song writing is garbage and the song album flow is weak.
Everyone and their grandpa has an acoustic album, so I believe to have an acoustic driven album on this list, you have to be a fantastic songwriter and very creative with the instruments, and I thought this album has neither
Fairly simple jazz that doesn't make any progressive moves
Mediocre rock opera
I was thinking a 3, but wooden ships bumped it up to a 4.
Solid album, but overall on the dull side
I like the raw energy, but the recording is so bad it's hard to hear anything and what I was able to hear wasn't anything novel.
Fun catchy songs that stick with you. The mixing is weak, and some songwriting is meh, but as a whole it stands out as an album worthy of a 5.
Doesn't hold up, but a good effort.
Mostly obscure, noisy, unpleasant electronic music, but there are glimpses of tasteful bass lines and synth plucks
Lots of solid tracks with character and energy this is lacking from most rock albums at that time.
I thought this would be a 4 or 5, but something in the way. I like some of the song choices that were made, especially the Vaselines, but the poor mix, poor vocal performance, poor lyrical dimension all made for a pretty poor album
Fairly static folk music with gospel undertones. A lack in lyrical content made for a majority of the song writing content just being "la la la ooh ooh ooh la la la"
Not my favorite Bowie. Some bangers and some duds
One of the best. Listened to this on shrooms in Thailand and still remains as a very fond memory. Incredible amount of detail and effort went into this album, and it paid off.
Has some clever songwriting and some moderately catchy tunes.
Pretty solid with good ballads
I don't know where this lands on their timeline but it felt like they had one foot into the psychedelic chapter and one foot in the doo-whop chapter
Actually has a lot of solid groovy bangers.
To me, the improved scramble of instruments trying to find a groove just felt lazy. There were a few interesting peaks in the album and the piano player was pretty good, but overall, overrated and sloppy.
I find the vocalist constantly trying to reach high notes with his raspy voice to be obnoxious. However there are some cool riffs throughout the album and overall it's not terrible.
There are some tracks that are fine, but for most of tracks it's like "cars are cars?!" What the fuck is this bullshit
Pretty decent background music
Some bangers out the gate. Gets a little weak on side b.
Just couldn't really get into it
A good vibe overall. I wish there were more artists like this
If I was turning 30 in 1985 I definitely would be down with them. It's a shame they have some poppy songs because songs like "listen" is where it's at.
Not a fan of old school rap. Cheesy writing and ok production.
Good album? For sure. One of best of all time? I disagree
Eh
Pretty solid with some clever songs
It's a good album with a few very good songs
Actually pretty solid stoner album. Big fan
Lame
I'm not a Roxy music fan, but this isn't too bad.
Laurie Anderson and Kate bush are the highlights, but peter plays along nicely with them
Better than I thought it would be.
Not nearly as good as 77
