Popular Reviews

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits

As tedious as dull as I remembered. Popular does not always relate to quality.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac

Lots of classic tracks but I never liked them originally.

Urgh. Captures everything I hated about the '80s

This Album is why I am listening to these 1001 albums. How have I never heard this astounding beauty before?

Metallica by Metallica
Jan 16 2022

Clean production but it’s the same song over and over. Not for me.

Arrival by ABBA
Jan 31 2022

A good example of a singles band who probably shouldn’t make albums.

Goo by Sonic Youth

Industrial is not a genre that I've ever really listened to having dismissed it as the soundtrack of every decadent, dark, bare brick nightclub, that's probably owned by a vampire. At times it could be Eurovision, and there's a definite 80's synth vibe. It's fun though, and the use of some John Heartfield art, along with some easy to understand German bumped it from a 3 to a 4.

Be by Common

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Apr 11 2022

Lots of classic tracks but I never liked them originally.

Illmatic by Nas
Apr 20 2022

It's just not the genre for me.

OK by Talvin Singh
Apr 22 2022
Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Apr 23 2022

It's Jazz. If you like it great but if you don't this gets a bit repetitive.

Tidal by Fiona Apple

Dookie by Green Day
Jul 04 2022
Dirt by Alice In Chains

Oct 21 2022

Ok. Not my thing, but inoffensive enough. Music for a beatnik restaurant.

The Beach Boys Today! by The Beach Boys
May 18 2023

Of its time. Not offensive, but not something I would actively choose to listen to.

...And Justice For All by Metallica
May 19 2023

Nope. I'm not a fan of metal anyway, but this sounds like someone forgot to reverse the RIAA equalisation curve. Tinny AF.

Parallel Lines by Blondie
May 20 2023

Some classic songs on this album, feels later than 1978

The Next Day by David Bowie
May 21 2023

An average album for Bowie, not sure why it's included.

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
May 22 2023

Interesting musically, and not that samey, most of the tracks grab my interest until Thom starts whining. It's really hard to discern the lyrics, but not in a Cocteau Twins way, it's just unpleasant to listen to. Not sad and moody, just dreary.

She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper
Feb 04 2024

Very 80's production. A couple of great singles but the rest feels like fodder.

Feb 05 2024

I remember giving Simple Minds a good try back then, and just not getting it. I haven't changed my mind. The mix is unnecessarily muddy and dull, a poor imitation of The Lexicon of Love or The Luxury Gap.

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Feb 06 2024

Perfect. Hard to believe when this was released.

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
Feb 07 2024

Pleasant enough. Restaurant or concentration background music.

Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
Feb 09 2024

Not really into Tom Waits although this was interesting.

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Feb 10 2024

The blues parts were fine, but not something I'd ever want to listen to again.

Pornography by The Cure
Feb 11 2024

Strange choice for the list as there are much better albums.

Document by R.E.M.
Feb 12 2024

Some bangers on this one.

Bad by Michael Jackson
Feb 13 2024

Banging singles. The rest not so much.

Street Life by The Crusaders
Feb 15 2024

Great title track. The rest is awful elevator music.

Kenza by Khaled
Feb 18 2024

Quite listenable with some interesting rhythms.

Immigrés by Youssou N'Dour
Feb 19 2024

Funky upbeat African vibes. Liked it.

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
Feb 21 2024

The dog hated this. I can see why.

British Steel by Judas Priest
Feb 22 2024

Boring heavy metal. Not the genre for me.

2112 by Rush
Feb 23 2024

Utter utter utter utter shite

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Feb 28 2024

I had placed this one later than 1983, so it gets an extra star.

Vivid by Living Colour

Mar 02 2024
