Pleasant. Mild. Nice. Pretty. Wears a cardigan and hides behind fringes.
I don't think this is peak David. There are a couple of memorable tracks but the rest are just competent. For Bowie completists.
This is an eclectic record. 21st century 'White Album' perhaps? Certainly the two artists represented by the two 'CD' track listings felt they could do whatever they wanted no matter how crazy it was or what the other thought, I assume. Some catchy stuff and OK raps I suppose. I'll give it another listen but it runs over two hours already. I haven't got a favourite disc.
Was this the origin of muzak? Or did they just contribute? Either way it's an unexciting ride.
I enjoyed this one! Great energy and performances.
Pretty good rock album. Some big hits and only 1 obvious filler track. Doesn't overstay its welcome at 39 minutes. Nice full orchestra track to conclude the album.
Some killer. Some filler. Not my favourite Blur album. Peak Britpop Blur are this and the next album. They get a bit weirder later in the decade which I prefer.
I listened to this album three times so you don't have to. (standard 3 track release).
Still has the strong classic Beach Boys vibe but with less cars and more girls. I will listen again.
I listened to the 14 track edition on Apple Music. This is a pretty rockin' live album. It's got an 'everybody solo!' vibe but the songs are good. I'm familiar with the most popular tracks and there are a few well executed covers. Well recorded at Leeds University, might have to make it a music mecca some time! Could do without some of the chit chat though, which I believe isn't in the original 1970 release.
Pleasant. Mild. Nice. Pretty. Wears a cardigan and hides behind fringes.
I was 15 when this album came out. I had no idea the album versions of the 3 singles were so much longer! A pretty cool record.
Great tunes! Always something new to hear each time. Sounds great, hasn't aged.
I love these sort of crazy everything but the kitchen sink albums. One of the best.
I listened to this one quite a bit back in the day. It has four great songs, a couple of decent other ones, and then much noodling and sonic mis-adventures. I still like it though.
What a great combination of singer songwriters and performers. Good tunes all interesting to listen to and possibly sing along with. A classic of its time and informative of what influence it had on the future.
The sounds on this album remind me of the 2003 Blur album, which came after this. More rapping on this one though! I like Damon's and Blur's music a lot!
This is a cool record. Brash and loud. Modern psych rock?
This album was huge when I was a teenager. I certainly heard the big hits hundreds of times but this is the first time I've listened to the album. It's a grower and I appreciated it more on the 3rd listen. As an album it is good with most tracks being interesting even if you can't sing and dance to them as much as the hits.
Amazing drumming. Not too sure about the dual vocalists. Pick one? Heavy but not Helium!
I love this album, side A is perfect and side B is pretty good. Macca at his best.
Love this album. Inventive musicians playing great songs with Smart lyrics.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It's good and I don't mind Morrissey's lyrics.
I love the Tom Waits slow vibe on this album. The tracks are musically different and Tom just can't help be a story teller. Ace stuff!
Ray sounds great. Not much of a fan of the choral style backing vocals. Good songs.
Reminds me of McCartney I, pleasant, sometimes surprising and fun.
I listened to the 1997 Iggy Pop remix and the Bowie mix. The Bowie mix certainly hides how loose some of the performances are but the Pop mix is the superior mix. As for the album, appropriately named and exciting to listen to. Worth the time of any guitar rock lover.
Immediately listenable with 'fun' lyrics. Pretty good really!
Holds up to repeated listening. Great beats and rhythms. Scratching not annoying or ridiculous. One for the ages.
It's an interesting listen like many mid 1960's albums. Cool sounds and grooves. I suppose the lyrical content is a bit more unusual than similar era fare, buying drugs, sadomasochism, etc. I do prefer Lou over Nico though. Rolling Stones fans should enjoy it.
Half good songs. Half lame funk rap. Just buy a greatest hits to avoid the dross.
This is a great rock album. Adds to the canon and still feels exciting and vital today. A classic.
Good background grooves. Didn't listen to the words.
This is a great listen all round. Worth your time and repeated listens
Whistful. Great to doze off to.
Empty repetitive jams. Boring. "No future" for John Lydon after the Pistols.
Sweet tunes. but not sickly sweet.
Lots to absorb here. Probably would have helped if I was 22, directionless, and needed a friend in Billy. Sounds great and a good reflection of mid 90s rock.
This is a good debut album. Sounds great. Good songs, lyrics decent, vocals great. Variety of soft and harder rocking tunes.
Enjoyable listen. The type of laid back country tinged rock that existed, before wall-of-sound country arrived a few years later and urbanised the genre. Great.
Did they have pogo'ing back in 1969? That's what I'd be doing!
This is much better than I anticipated. Beautiful singing and music. The raps are tolerable! Probably peak RnB for the two decades surrounding it's release.
This is very listening for non-rap lover, in comparison to most of the stuff that I've heard anyway. Good interesting rhymes. Nice use of profanity!
Good riffs. Dumb lyrics. DP for everyone!
This album is lyrically interesting and the music suitably dramatic and interesting. A pretty good intro to Alice Cooper (the band).
I love the Beatles but I had never listened to this mainly because I thought it would all sound like My Sweet Lord. Thankfully it does not. George wrote some strong and thoughtful tracks and the musicians he surrounded himself with are excellent. Even the Bob Dylan song is a good one!
A handful a great tracks where they next level their Blues origins and some OK ones which are saved by Robert's vocals. A decent listen.
Pretty cool album. The flute was less overwhelming than I had feared. Certainly, worth your time if you like slightly off kilter British rock from the early seventies. Good guitar sounds. I listened to the 2016 remaster.
I love wall of guitars sound though occasionally the solos get overwhelmed. Always good to hear a couple of male voices out front.
I like dancing but the sounds are just so dated I don’t even feel nostalgic.
Not a particularly exciting album. A couple of good songs which make the remainder sound like filler. And the remastered edition is stupidity bright!
I was 10 when this album was released so it fell through the listening cracks I suppose, but wow it is good. Everything about it is wonderful. The sound, feel, lyrics, performances, mixing, and the rest. Love it.
I don't think this is peak David. There are a couple of memorable tracks but the rest are just competent. For Bowie completists.
This is a consistently good album. Varied in instrumentation and pace. Good singing by what's his name too! Hasn't really aged, or feel of its time, even though it's 22 years old.
The Kinks are real story tellers on this album. The lyrics are just as important as the musicianship, and all together makes a excellent listen. There is only one well known track on this album but you won't be disappointed with any of the songs. Great stuff from the mid-60's!
