I liked the jazz album a lot. The mixing was a bit weird, but definitely more enjoyable than elton john.
Pretty good smooth jazz album. Would recommend.
didn’t like it. the metal was too soft for my liking
I like it it’s fun and jazzy rock
Like Joey Valence and Brae but kinda worse, i see how its influential, but not my thing.
Peak. Great vibes, smooth, suave, very nice.
Liked the album, has lots of distortion, very energetic
Little boring, like fleetwood mac but not as good.

Pretty good, title track carries album hard though.
I liked it. It was pretty fun.
Pretty good smooth first impression. Wakes you up gently, but makes it's presence known. Overall though i liked it
Bait and switched me with the intro. It was interesting and then became cliche and boring :(.
Listened whole way through was not impressed.
Yo this album bangs. Really love the title track, and it sets the mood for the rest of the album that comes with it. It holds on to the atmosphere it creates.
I see the impact it had, but it's not pushing boundaries NOW.
The falsetto highkey pissing me off td. Prolly need more listens to this to get, but rn i'd give it a 3.
Nothing really special about this band. Very stereotypical rock kinda deal, a little boring, but not bad.
I see its thrashiness, but it feels a bit soft imo, they could do more extreme things.
Really like this album, great discovery, funky, interesting, political, but doesn't stick as well as some other R&B albums for me.
I was moved. Never heard anything this beautiful before.
I see the vision on how this was different compared to the less "evil" sounds of led zeppelin, or deep purple, or the who.
But just because I can recognize what makes it different from the times, doesn't make me like it now :p
It's a lot of riffs and stuff, but felt kinda boring compared to modern metal/industrial stuff.
5/10
I don't understand the hate for live albums here, this is great, I can feel the bands humor, love for music, energy, and the banter from the audience, makes me feel like I'm there.
Rock isn't usually my thing, but this was very fun.
8/10
Fun, not too serious, with some interesting sounds.
I liked it, definitely some unc shit, but nothing wrong with that.
7/10
This album legitimately makes me nauseous, idk why.
It's listenable, but makes my head hurt because of the mixing and the background noise.
I only want to suffer socially for the music I like, not physically.
Surprisingly fun and vibey. Very nice.
Not bad at all. Shoegaze-core, a little noisy, all around pretty good.
I don't usually like folk music all that much, but this was a pleasant experience.
It's alright. It's nice listening to drum and bass that isn't fully from the UK, but it's really just DnB with eastern instruments. It's cool, but nothing crazy or mindbreaking.
Top heavy. Not that interesting outside the title track.
Yeah, maybe black sabbath isn't my thing. Can't get into it hard like other metal bands.
It's pretty good, nothing to write home about. Nothing strikes out as game changing.
You know what, actually really fun. I like this a lot. I don't get a lot of rock, which is gonna make a lot of the albums on this challenge suck, but it'll be fine if I can keep finding gems like this.
Nothing crazy, a little boring.
I didn't care for Elton John on Madman Across The Water, I still don't care for him now. Music is good and well made, that's obvious, I just don't vibe with it.
I fuck with this heavy. It might not sound like punk we know but it get's to the soul of what punk is.
Bitchin! Its a great album, complex themes, just a little boring on some tracks unfortunately.
Pretty good rock album. Took a couple listens to get, but they definitely understand what rock is about.
The vibe musically, completely different from joy division, but the content stays the same though. Gotta respect that they don't rehash their old sound.
I don't understand the hype for this album. It's a decent techno album, but it just felt draining to be listening to the first 22 minute song... The other songs aren't any better. Still though, it's not horrendous or bad or anything. I just feel that ambient music like this can be done better.
5/10
I want to give this a 4 star rating, but listening to the trumpet is so grating on good equipment it's genuinely a hindrance to the rest of the music.
If there was a better remaster, I'll revisit this review.
"If you were a horse, I'd clean the crap from your stable"
That line woke me up and realized I wasn't listening to the music anymore and was dissociating. Is this meant to be romantic?
Groovy. It executes a vibe so perfectly. Also was the first album I listened to when I first got to California, so it holds sentimental meaning to me.
It FEELS like California if that makes sense. It's warm, layered, complicated, but fun, even with the issues that the songs try to bring forward.
I like it a lot.
5 stars.
Didn't like it. Glam rock is just boring to my ears. I zoned out until the last song.
I don't like listening to pedophile music. Sixteen.
The album was long, bloated, and disorganized. There was no real theme or reason for those songs to be together. But I do need to acknowledge, that's why the album exists.
I never was a big fan of the Beatles before, but I do want to say some of the songs here were bangin. Loved blackbird and good night. Rest is kind of take it or leave it.
3/5
Nice art rock music. Very groovy. Definitely a vibe.
3/5
Norman Cook does exactly what his name says. I was very familiar with his work on YCALWB, and I see in this album where a lot of the ideas came from. That being said, it does have more flaws than that album, at some points being repetitive. Yet it keeps you hypnotized on even the most boring songs.
Better than "The White Album." Sue me.
4/5
It's alright. There are some really cool soundbites in this record that would be interesting to sample, but for the most part, it dropped the ball with the first half, and picked it back up in the second.
Nothing remarkable. Doesn't sound bad, but it's pretty boring for the most part sometimes.
Second half of the album really picked up a lot more traction compared to the first. Very cheesy, but it's not bad that's the thing.
Groove is in the heart HARD CARRIES the rest of this album, which while fun, is notably boring.
Like that song is a perfect 5, for a 2/5 album, so i'll give it like a 3/5
It's nice but doesn't grip me. Again nothing much to say, not too good not too bad.
Don't care for queen. It's not experimental, just sounds orchestric and boring.
Bjork cooks. I wasn't familiar with her early work, but this is pretty nice. I liked it.
Inconsistent album, but the highs hit very well. I liked it.
Great pop album, changed the game back when it was made, and still feels fresh today. Many great hits, a little long on some songs, but all in all still a very enjoyable experience.
Even if this was meant to be a parody of music at the time, it struck the core of what made that music special in my eyes, and really shines with the singles. I could put any of these songs on during a party and everyone will get down to dance methinks.
It just feels happy, even in spite of the lyrics.
5/5
As usual with Roxy Music, the music in itself is _fine_ but it just doesn't engage me, even when I'm trying to find things to appreciate with the music.
I guess it's just not my thing
2/5
I love soul music, and this is a great album. Not perfect mind you, not everyone can make "What's Going On," but it's still a damn good time, sensual, and tender.
4/5
Boring as an album, has some highlights though
Americana is not my thing. I'm conflicted cuz they mention a lot of places I grew up near, but it's really not my thing.
Again, like master of puppets, it's got good melody and rhythm, but the mixing and mastering makes the instrumentals feel like they lack punch, power, and impact.
3/5
It's Radiohead. It's a great album, lots of cool sounds that I've never heard before. I don't think you could hear something similar from other bands as well.
5/5
Don’t really care for it…
One of the biggest highlights of this album is the crazy amount of variety present within it. Every song has a distinct “sound” to it, with some close to others. Some songs had my jaw dropping like that one family guy bird listening to free bird, others were soft and tender and made you really think. It’s an album that anyone can listen to and point at a song and say “I really like this one.”
This huge amount of variety does come at the cost of bloat. I personally prefer shorter more focused records, and with this LP spanning almost 2 hours, it’s a real commitment for a listener to sit down and go through and digest the whole thing. At least with shorter albums, you can spare to listen a few times to try and understand.
Nevertheless, there’s a reason this album is regarded as a classic. Everyone’s heard 1979 at some point in their lives, but other songs have the same or even more emotional impact to them. It’s a real work of art. But art cannot exist without an audience, and this one really demands a lot from its audience with its two hour length.
TLDR: Great album with lots of great different sounding songs, but wish it was shorter so i could listen through more often.
4/5
It was alright, but nothing remarkable about it.
Don't care for it. It's very technical, but also very shallow on a first listen.
I love my samba beats, and this doesn't disappoint. Nothing crazy, definitely worth a relisten.
It's alright, not the craziest. Some great songs, but as a whole, it's alright
I don't care much for Americana. It's not very interesting to me.
I’ve heard great things from talk talk, but this album wasn’t as impressive as i thought it would’ve been.
Listening to this album is a double issue, both from the language barrier from me not understanding the language, and the different musical and cultural expectations that this record lives within, which I'm completely ignorant of. This album was never meant for someone like me. And yet I can't say I didn't enjoy it.
It's deeply hypnotic, gets you into a sort of a trance listening to it, but it doesn't give the same brain scratch feeling that other albums do.
Solid album, I see why it's on this list. I enjoyed it but don't plan on revisiting it.
3/5
Not bad. I prefer the Fela Kuti style of African Music, but this isn't bad at all either.
I don’t care much for folk rock. Bob Dylan not really my thing unfortunately.
While the title track is good and the melodies are smooth, there’s not much going on with this record. It’s cliche a little with its themes, not going deep into the whys and what’s of love and family, which just bored me a little.
I didn’t hate it so 3/5
This album is great. There’s so much emotion in his voice and interesting songs from the instrumentation. I need more listens to refine my thoughts on this, but I think 4/5 is very fair. Might bump it to 5
Beautiful soulful songs with a just as beautiful message.
Very easy 5/5
An unexpected joy to listen to. Soft, delicate, vulnerable, this album felt personal. You felt the pain and the emotion really strongly.
Smooth summer vibes, spanish vocals and good feels.
Easy 5/5
Beauty in song form. Kendrick could not win against this guy. Don’t plan on going back to ot so 4/5.
Great album. Mostly covers which i wasn’t expecting but realistically should’ve seen given the album titles. Yet each one of these songs, while not Johnny Cash’s originally, do have a unique charm that he brings.
Soulful, contemplative, and a little hopeful. Johnny Cash made a great album.
4/5
One of my favorite albums. It’s perfect.
5/5
High production value, lots of effort put into the music, but it doesn’t feel like a cohesive album.
Todd Rundgren mixes and mashes different songs and styles together on this album, and while the songs individually are good, don’t give the album a sense of direction.
3/5
Very inconsistent album. Some songs are great some are slogs.
Surprisingly good album. enjoyed every second of it.
Don’t care for it. Didn’t engage me and sounded lazy.
Really like the dramatics of this album.
Sounds like louisiana, really nails that sound. Doesn’t mean I like it.
I like jazz, I like this album. It’s got energy flowing and bumping throughout, and sounds really fresh.
Oh hell yeah. This feels punk af. I know heard where the sample from one of my favorite songs is from, with a great album attached to it as well.
Solid themes, solid music, great album.
3.5/5
What a strange album. Never heard anything quite like this before. This is my 3rd time trying to get through the entire thing.
I have immense respect and pity for the musicians who were straight tortured in order to make this album. It takes both incredible talent, dedication, and mental resilience in order to make this. And yet I still don't know if I like it.
I can understand the intrigue it brought looking at the records that came out the same year (Abbey Road, Kind of Blue, Led Zeppelin II) and this sounds like it was made almost orthogonally to the influence of the music of the past, like it lives on a completely different axis than everything else.
I don't hate any of the songs either, in fact I really like Veteran's Day Poppy. I just don't see myself listening to it with the same fervor, passion (dare I say poisson) and love that other people hold for this album.
This is a very interesting album. I know I'll be listening to this again to get a better opinion on it, just not any time soon.
4/5
Wasn't expecting to like a country record like this.
Cannot stand listening to this it’s boring and drab, and lowkey a little misogynistic.
At least Trout Mask Replica was interesting on an intellectual level and had different subjects.
One of the greatest albums of all time.
Unlike beatles fans, beach boys fans can recognize when they make a stinker of an album. There are highlights which show how great brian wilson is and his genius (When i grow up, help me rhonda) but as a whole, this feels more like a warm up or practice session for brian wilson’s song writing chops.
Just straight beautiful. There’s not many albums with such a storied history as this, that deliver not only in its musical enjoyment, but also its messaging. I’ve never heard protest music be so beautiful, so soulful, and so uplifting.
5/5
