I didn't hugely enjoy this. I love Joni Mitchell for the soaring emotional highs and lows of Both Sides Now and Big Yellow Taxi. This was more of a stream of consciousness album with mild psychadelic tones. I think if I had been in a specific mood when I listened to this, I would have loved it. The music was enjoyable even without the correct mood, and I'm sure I would like the lyrics more if I was looking for a continuous story. I will have to see if I ever get in that mood and go from there. I'm glad I listened to it, regardless. It is very good music even if I didn't like it that much.
This album is the single best argument I have ever heard for the fact that I need to listen to more albums in their entirety instead of individual songs. No single song on this album immediately became a favorite, but the whole experience was amazing. Start to finish, this was incredibly enjoyable. My favorite thing that music can do is to incept one person's emotions onto other people. Normally with David Byrne, I feel emotions while listening but can't put my finger on any single emotion that comes through powerfully. This whole album was like that, but in the best possible way. I felt many things while listening.
Otis Redding is one of my favorite vocal performers, and this album showcases a lot of the reasons why. It is also chock full of hits. Really really enjoyable album by a legend.
I didn't love it but it had its moments.
A little too one note for my tastes, but there is no denying the sheer force of nature that is a Marvin Gaye song.
Beautiful, but a little too much for me right now.
Nope. Not for me.
This is going to be the worst review I ever leave, but I swear to Thor I normally like the Dead. When I was in college, Cracked was a huge thing. One of the authors on Cracked who wrote about music had a massive hate-on for the Dead. I didn't understand why at the time, but this album opened my eyes. The whole thing is long instrumentals followed by the type of muttery vaguely florid nonsense that people lazily making fun of the Dead do. Partway through I realized this could have been released as a parody album unchanged. There is an entire 7 minute track of feedback (titled Feedback, of course) as the second to last song. I'm going to keep enjoying Touch of Grey and Uncle John's Band, Ripple, Box of Rain, etc, but I am NEVER listening to this album again.
Solid 3.5/5. Closer to a three.
It was fine.
Pretty fun, then it ends with Radio, Radio. That bumps it from a 3 to a 3.5.
Pretty great.
Opens with a hell of a bop. Overall fun album.
Really fantastic album.
Meh.
Fun little bit of history.
Not bad, but super odd. It has its moments.
Genuinely just so great. Excellence in its purest form.
Fun, but I didn't love it.
Very meh. I'm always surprised by how much people like Radiohead and assume I'm missing something, but this album isn't convincing.
I think if I liked this band I would love the album.
This album was lots of fun. No huge standout songs, just enjoyable all the way through.
I was disappointed in this album. About every second song was fantastic, but a lot of the other ones were pretty meh IMO. I also felt like it didn't cohere that well. Definitely not writing off Peter Gabriel, some of those songs were awesome, but I don't think this one is for me.
Nothing stood out particularly, but this was super fun background music.
Fun.
Not enjoying this.
Not my thing but fun.
I really enjoyed this.
Undeniably enchanting.
I enjoyed this a lot.
I liked it so little I didn't finish listening to it.
Classic.
Very easy listening.
Kind of loving it.
Super fun
Beautiful. So much of what I love about James Taylor appears to come through with her too.
Pretty nice.
Did not enjoy.
As expected, this was excellent.
Meh.
Interesting but not really my thing.
Really really fun. I always forget how much I like the stones.
Interesting, but not my thing.
I didn't love it, but this felt like a much more intimate look at a songwriter's process than most albums. I'm also a cat dad, I loved A Fan's Mail (Tron Suite Song II). I feel like this deserves the 4 stars.
Meh.
He's called the king for a reason.
Not my thing.
ABBA does not disappoint.
Some good stuff but didn't love it.
Fun instrumentation.
Not my favorite, but it is very hard to find fault with Stevie Wonder.
Fun stuff, but spotify only had one song off the album
I really enjoyed this.
God I love Joplin.
Interesting but not for me.
Love the Cars, and this album has several songs I Love.
Pretty fun. Reminds me of a less intense version of The Doors.
I haven't listened to much Zeppelin, but this was super fun.
I love Van Morrison, and this is a great Live album.
Really fun, even though I wasn't always loving it.
I mean, it's Thriller.
Meh.
Other than Sorry Ms Jackson I didnt really like this, but it wasn't particularly bad. Super weird for sure though.
Fun but not my favorite Green Day
Always enjoyable.
Weird but not bad
Very very enjoyable.
Really really nice
Not my thing
Beautiful.
Amazing vocals, but I didn't love it.
Don't love it.
Gosh, what a debut album. There are sprinklings in there of things I love about some of their later work, but it also stands on its own.
Fun but not my thing.
I didn't mind this at all. Really liked some of the lyrics and there were some good melodies.
Didn't finish it, but I didn't love what I heard.
Nearly wall to wall bangers. I don't love Country Girl but everything else on this is amazing.
Really didn't like it. It's like U2 but worse. The lyrics were kind of songwriting 101.
I think i need to re listen to this when I'm feeling angstier.
It's pretty amazing that I've heard some of these songs roughly a quadrillion times and still enjoy them (I'm looking at you Wonderwall). This coming on the heels of Coldplay is a little enlightening. They are sort of a similar sub-genre, but Oasis is so much more enjoyable. I don't think there was a single song on this album that I didn't enjoy. It's never going to be my favorite album, but its incredibly solid all the way through with pretty high highs.
Fun stuff.
Really good.
I like this band so I might be grading on a bit of a curve, but i enjoyed this album a lot.
Such a beautiful, beautiful voice. Every song was enjoyable.
Disappointed in this one. Not bad, but kind of bland.
I'm sorry Sufjan, you haven't earned my whimsy yet.
I grew up with this one. I love it and the movie soundtrack.
I was surprised by how much I liked this. A bunch of it reminds me a lot of Celeste.
Wonderful music.
Like 4 classics from one album, wow.
Pretty great.
More like a 4.5
Fine, but not exciting. I was disappointed by the lyrics.
Didn't like it.
The Cure are so much fun to listen to.
Should be a 3.5. Really interesting but I didn't like about 1/4th of it. Some of the songs were really good, though.
Enjoyable. Never going to be my favorite, but this band is fun.
Liking it quite a bit.
Prince is a legend for a reason.
A little disappointing, but Yellow holds up.
One of the greatest works of artistry of all time. Every single song is a great. In my opinion this album is the magnum opus of one of the best musicians of all time. I don't know that I can enjoy an album more than I enjoy this one.
Love the early Beatles
Would be a 3, except that Peg is amazing.
Several classics from this album.
I don't think I've ever disliked an ELO song.
Enjoyable but pretty samey
Opens very strong but gets a little less catchy by the end.
I so not have the ear for jazz.
I really really enjoyed this. It's a great storytelling album.
Some all time greats on this album.
Really cool stuff
Loving this from the start. Very solid 4/5.
Pretty great, she's a staple of the genre for a reason.
A legend.
Super fun.
More like a 4.5.
Her voice is so amazing.
Fun stuff.
Lots of fun songs.
Pretty fantastic.
Nope.
What's Love Got to Do With It is an obvious 5/5 but I didn't love the rest.
I have yet to hear ABBA the doesn't absolutely rule.
Cool that this exists, but not really my thing.
