1001 Albums Summary

Songs are too long. I remember the singles.

Loved the jazzy Twisted.

Didn’t realize her advocacy especially at the time

Couldn’t get through it unfortunately.

The long instrumentals at the end threw off the overall album

Oakenfold remixes slightly improved, but not by much.

Solid Marley

Classic. 2 Marley albums in a row!

I need to listen again with the tracks separated instead of two long halves of the album.

Solid West coast 90s gangsta rap. Needs to be considered in the rap context of the time.

Trying not to let nostalgia tint the view of the album, but it’s really solid. Billy’s voice is Billy’s voice, but I really enjoyed listening to this.

Slightly biased because I remember this, but even with nostalgia glasses I think this is a really good capture of the 90s alternative music at the time. 5*

Did not grab me as much as some of the other albums. Also. 3 Bob Marley albums in my first two weeks of this challenge.

I do remember the single, but I cannot get through this one.

Trying to look at this without knowing it’s the Stones to see how it sounds.

Better than I expected. I recognized some of the songs as singles.

I think she has significant talent. The taint of Puff Daddy is affecting my view of the album as a whole with the first track Honey sounding very much like it could have been on a Bad Boy compilation cd at the time.

Great voice. Album is a little slow overall

I appreciate where this was for punk in 1980. His voice reminds me of the B52s and I couldn’t shake it.

This makes me want to listen to more REM. I can see how they could have impacted other music going forward.

I couldn’t get through it.

I have a hard time separating the art from the artist knowing what we know. Not columbine, the character and personal behavior.

I would have liked this in 2003 during my indie Shins era. Surprised I never heard it before.

First half is really interesting. It reminded me of the White Stripes.

Generational talent. I think the songs got over played which harms the overall draw of the album presently.

Some songs carry the album more than others. More enjoyable blended genre than I expected.

My second Funkadelic album in the challenge. I may need to revisit some of my first reviewed albums when all is said and done.

I saw someone online say that this album is to my generation what the Eagles were to the generation before.

Better than I thought it would be but it’s just not for me.

I thought this was going to be a 5 but after intently listening to it all I think it ultimately suffers from being a double album.

I read the entry and the artistic regard, but it’s very difficult to listen to.

Needs to be evaluated given the time it was released.

Really unusual but not bad. Very different than what I would ever listen to but that’s the point of all of this!

Second Morrissey album in my first 90 days. Apparently, I am not a fan.

Debated on this one but I feel comfortable as a 5. I think this holds up better than others of that same time period, and is an overall tight cohesive album.

Funny to read about, but I couldn’t.

I may have had more enjoyment if I was familiar with the studio work before I heard the live album. Maybe I’ll revisit.

I think I enjoyed Damn and Good Kid mAAd city more when they all first came out, but tpab does feel richer and more layered. I see why this earned the accolades it received.

As alternative as this is, I was able to listen to it easier than some other albums in other genres, but that’s probably because I can hear the early punk in it.

For the kind of hip hop that J5 does, I do think they are one of the best.

I think live albums are a tough category for me.

Best songs were with Method Man and Inspecta Deck

Not as strong as White Blood Cells (2001) but you can hear the sound changing before Jack spun off his side and solo projects.

Very interesting album for this particular project. I believe this is the longest album in the whole 1001 set. I think it suffers from being too long/much of a project. Her voice is incredible and there are many classic songs in here. But after awhile the songs and arrangements sounded similar.

Turns out ambient avant-garde is not for me.

Interesting concept idea after reading about it. But, I’m reviewing based on music and ability to listen and enjoy.

I know I'm supposed to gush but I just can’t do 12 minute songs.

First Beatles album in the challenge. I may have to re review some albums after I get through more artist catalog.

I read the wiki and the reviews and it may have laid groundwork for other music but I found it very hard to listen to and get through.

Spotify had the option of Mono or Stereo. I tried it Mono as I guess it was originally but I highly recommend Stereo instead.

It was interesting to hear how their sound has changed over time.

I think this album marked a change in metalcore, laying the groundwork for so many bands after them. I listened to this and then Vol 3 and I do think Vol 3’s production helps it over s/t.
