Reviews (page 8 of 8)

starting to dread hitting my submit button and seeing the random ass band I definitely do not need to hear before I die

The sound is fine but the songs are not so interesting.

Wow more garbage

Groovy Julian. No thanks. Psychedelic album number 205 on the list. Another sneaky chance to put in one from 1968/69 even if it was recorded in 2002.

Did not enjoy

This is #day7 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... what the fuck did I just listen to? Starting with song #3, I couldn't wait for this to end. Can anybody explain to me the significance of this album being featured on the list? That was rather annoying. The first entry on the list that I'm generously giving a 1 out of 5. Looking forward to #day8.

The only reason I can think of that this album would be included on this list would be for some british publisher to try and be more "inclusive" and have some white british artists that were less popular than the other white british artists that this white british list already has on it in a very white british way. 1/5

What a truly awful album. 1 star for the interesting collage on the cover. Shit

why - why is this on the list? I'd give it no stars if I could.

Shadows Fall Dreaming of You Goodbye

Full and derivative. At its best, it sounded like the record Tom Waits would make if he lost his distinctive voice, sense of humor, lyrical wit, and association with Mark Ribot. 1001 other albums are lined up in limbo waiting to take the place of this one. Nn

Psychedelic sea shanties. Because...well, no-one knows.

If you were a tumblr addict who wore lensless glasses, V-necks and scarfs in the summer of 2013, I cannot recommend this enough.

Not rocking my world, first song reminded me why I didn’t and still don’t like them. Good at what they do but just not for me

Stop listening

Sea shanties, reggae, indie rock, ska all blended together to become less than the sum of its parts. Dreaming of you is a standout song in a sea of try hard blandness - I can only think when they drew the list up and needed to include 2002 there was very little from that year to choose from.

This is embarrassingly lame. If this came out in the 60's it would be excusable, but it didn't. IT CAME OUT IN THE 2000's. It's just the Doors if they couldn't sing or write interesting songs. They stole It's A Small World on the song Goodbye... Skeleton Key is one of the worst songs I have ever heard. Usually when I see a decent mix of 1's and 5's, I tend to lean towards the 5's or at least understand why people like it. But this is just straight ass, no idea why it was picked.

I do not get this album at all, it's a mess of too many elements. And it seems like it just sounds like the poor man's version of too many sounds from the early 2000s. This album is definitely not for me and I feel like it should not be included on this list.

Too poppy

terrible...

This album had its better than one star moments but the band kept sabotaging themselves in multiple ways and couldn't hold onto any one of those moments for a complete song. This one's teetering on a 2 but there's too many bad lyrics and bad choices dragging it down.

the kind of lad band shite that was ubiquitous during the early 2000s.

Terrible.

Several tiers below "nothing special"

Interesting to be sure, but truly enjoyed nothing here at all

It's like what if indie rock did experimental jazz. Just not good.

Pretty surprised this made the 1001 list. Huh. Did not need to hear this one before I died. Not good Personal Favorites: I Remember When

A single catchy song does not an album make. Dull.

I kinda struggle with this super-emotive vocal style. Kinda feels faux-deep/boomer-y. I guess it's commendable how many genres the test out here. Goodbye has a nice retro vibe to it. Waiting for the Heartaches has a really insipid rhyming scheme. Bad Man just continues the trend of me hating the vocals. The last track had some line about seashells on the seashore, and then it ends with "calendars and clocks, dickory-dock" over and over and o v e r. There are some really interesting ideas throughout the album but they're drowning in a sea of obnoxious and trite music, vocals, and lyrics. This whole gives me very "local band who plays in coffee shops and wears drug rugs" vibes.

One decent song. Wouldn’t listen again

The Coral's debut album isn't absolutely horrible. There is a bare level of musical competence, which is to say that the members can sort of play their instruments and sing, which isn't guaranteed these days. I appreciate their attempt at tonal and stylistic variety, drawing from mostly genres prevalent in the 70s, a little garage here, a little psych there, a little ska over there. But they have absolutely nothing to add, they're vapid, and they don't approach the effectiveness of any of their influences. How bad is it? I'd rather listen to a random Paul Revere and the Raiders or Bachman Turner Overdrive album.

This album is garbage. The lyrics sucked, the music sucked, and I hated it.

I have already begun to forget this album. I don't think it's bad in a technical way, it just doesn't work for me.

Ok classic rock
