Hunky Dory
David BowieDon't need to relisten, ceritifed hood classic. Every song after Life on Mars could be Bowie farting into a microphone and it's still a Top 50 all time record
Don't need to relisten, ceritifed hood classic. Every song after Life on Mars could be Bowie farting into a microphone and it's still a Top 50 all time record
One of the best electronic albums of all time, it’s immaculate
Liked it more than I was expecting, post Britpop sound with some decent songwriting
NOW WE'RE TALKIN', ABSOLUTE BEAST OF A RECORD HERE
Holy mother of god that sucked. Try and Love Again was the closest to some level of quality and soul, rest of the album felt like trying to take a fly out of a soup with tweezers
It’s audacious, mean, full of skeletons. Not massive on a lot of the skits but they paint a tapestry of a violent upbringing in 80’s New York. It’s a classic for a reason, ahead of its time and for its time simultaneously.
I used to adore this album in my early 20’s and as time’s gone on, that love is still there however slightly diminished. The production is spunky and bright, the performances are snappy and assured, but something about the end product leaves me a little dry and I can’t put my finger on it. Still an album that should be considered essential listening to any music fan.
This did nothing for me. Nice to listen to but I’ve never been a massive Air fan and this one didn’t sway me.
A little bubblegum for my liking. Definitely fits in it’s own microcosm of 80’s indie pop but man does this record drag for me
Not his best, but a welcome addition to a catalogue full of great 70’s pop music. Doesn’t quite have the identity of Ziggy or the Berlin trilogy
Really does feel like a relic from a different time. Never been a huge blues guy but there is something truly comfy about this record.
I’m torn on this one. I would say it genuinely took me by surprise on some tracks with sweeping but understated arrangements like Sara, unbelievably gorgeous. The very next track is Lindsey Buckingham yelping like a Pomeranian over a bad power pop riff. When it’s good, it’s some of the best music of 79. When it’s not, it’s not.
Ehhhh I don’t really know what to say about this one. I feel like a lot of 70’s music transcends it’s era and time and has a universal message that still really sticks the landing (something like Electric Warrior or Ege Bamyasi) but this one never left 1971. Or even the 60’s for that matter.
I’m realizing I should be less critical to some degree. This album is quite good, great guitar work, definitely drags at some points. Hometown treasure of an artist for me, go jets
One of the best electronic albums of all time, it’s immaculate
I listened to this album a few months ago and it didn’t really stick with me. This time around, really enjoyed it. Earnest songwriting, straight forward instrumentation, real vulnerability on display.
On one hand, the musicianship is top notch and the idea behind the main theme is great. On the other, at a brief 35 minutes, it really loses steam halfway through when it shouldn't. Used it's best idea first and it shows.
It’s perfect
BAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGEEEEEERRRRRSSSSS
Not a record for me, but he’s clearly quite talented and knows how to arrange a god darn song
Is it better than Hotel California? Yes. Is it as good as Green Onions? No. Will I ever listen to it again? Not deliberately.
Liked it more than I thought I would, excellent guitar work and thoughtful songwriting
Didn’t hit when I listened to it a decade ago, still isn’t now. I still think it’s good, just not amazing
God I love Steely Dan. Sardonic lyrics, incredible playing, just masterful
It's phenomenal. Only criticism, and this isn't on the part of the record, I don't know if this is a record to constantly revisit, and misses the staying power of something like Pet Sounds.
Used to listen to this a bunch when I was younger and remember quite liking it. This time I'm not so sure... something about it dragged, something about felt whiny in a way it hadn't previously. I do think it's a good record, just not for me at this point in my life.
How have I never heard of this before, Kevin Parker eat your heart out
It’s a good record, not much else to say honestly
Liked it more than I was expecting, post Britpop sound with some decent songwriting
I wanted to like this so much more than I did. There’s some great moments, specifically synth tones, but there’s something sleepy in the songwriting that pulls me out of it.
This would be EXTREMELY fun live, idk how it translates to an album, but I see the appeal
Blues rocks master work, one of the best
Time hasn’t been immensely generous to this record for me, but in a cool August evening in 2012, it’s home
Great players, great album art, but wanted more from this one
It’s a classic for a reason, although suffers a bit from double LP syndrome
Production is a little too muddy for the songs to really shine
A raucous, emphatic statement that should be seen as one of the best of their catalogue
maybe I gotta stop listening to msuic on spotify
Clearly some level of songwriting prowess on display, some great moments, absolutely REEKS of high school for me
Totally ehh on it
Is it clearly a revolutionary reggae record? Yes. Is it as good as Funky Kingston? No.
oh boy here's what I absolutely will say after years of retrying this album and hating it: the drum sound on this album is MY SHIT. The acoustics and timbre of the the snare are incredible. The manipulative songwriting and watery guitars do nothing for me
Elegant and provocative
I already listened to this one wtf
Sexy, sensible, slay queen energy
Parachutes is better, also this band is overhated
Imagine if Yard Act had a set of testicles and wasn't a product to be marketed
For a pedophile, pretty rockin and hip record dude
Oh Jesus like I need to relisten. Not my favourite Floyd record, not in my Top 50 of all time, arguably overrated, BUT I would be completely remiss to say that isn’t one of the most rewarding album experiences you can have. Get it on vinyl, pop a tab of acid, close your eyes, and let those clocks before Time scare the ever loving shit out of you.
If I was 15 in 1976, this would have blown my mind. Since neither are currentlt true, it's alright, you can do better within the genre
NOW WE'RE TALKIN', ABSOLUTE BEAST OF A RECORD HERE
Their best album? Possibly
Oh geez alright. The drumming is undeniably some of my favourite for the genre, I feel like Travis Barker gets more than his fair share that should be redirected to Tre. This album just doesn’t hit like it used to for me. Maybe I’m just old now
If Scott Walker hadn’t done so many drugs and was pretty okay
Never listened to an ABBA record, can confirm they are a singles band
Liked it more than MMLP, but goddamn do I not care of Eminem.
Pretty bangin album
Torn on this one. The high points some of the best songs of all-time, the low points aren't bad so much as forgettable. Turn it from a double LP to a single and it's basically perfect. As it stands, it's good enough for an 8/10 but it could be so much more
Big album from a big band. In what it lacks in memorability from its predecessor, it makes up for in audacity and avant garde tendencies
Completely meh, might feel different on a second listen
Like it a lot more than I was expecting, some of the best indie rock drumming I've heard in some time. Kind of a mix between Sufjan and Gizz. One major nitpick would be the vocals, very dated
I've tried this album so many times, and this is the time I've enjoyed it the most. Varied and sparkly production, great songwriting, worth its weight in gold. Also, probably one of my favourite album covers.
Don't need to relisten, ceritifed hood classic. Every song after Life on Mars could be Bowie farting into a microphone and it's still a Top 50 all time record
A&E was a pretty big standout. The whole record is nice sounding and clearly heartfelt, but the lack of any bigness kinda holds it back. Liked it more than I thought, might revisit
Hoo boy The nihilistic themes of Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins in the early 90's seemingly caused a rift in the music industry where popular music got a little dark for a second so labels freaked out and reacted by finding blase, tepid bands that write songs about how life is worth living and that everything will turn out okay. Incubus is that reaction and I can't say it resonates with me. It's not even the sentiment of life being worth living, it's preachy nature of that sentiment mixed with HARD ROCK AND DJ SCRATCHES. There's the occassional moment where this record works (Pardon Me despite being a single IS a stand out track) but you could do so much better, even in nu-metal.
His Sign O the Times, pretty great record
Incredible record, still in love with it after all these years
Her best album probably
Claaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassic
CLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSIC
Kinda sounds like coming 3 America, there’s better Koffi records
Idk what 4 talking heads records are on this thing, but if this replaced more songs, fear of music, remain in light, or speaking in tongues, absolute blunder. Good album, pales in comparison to what would come next for the group
Catchy, breezy, but ultimately a little unremarkable for me. Other all female bands of yonder have done it better
Obviously Fast Car is one of the best songs of all time, the album on the whole doesn’t do a lot for me
The scat song kinda made me hate this, but there is something to jazz lounge that feels nice. Idk, I’m torn
5 stars, perfect record
Pfffffbbbbbfffffttttt
Great to make dinner with your honey to
I was hoping for more french lounge like Gainsbourg than musique francophone. It's fine
BOOOOOM DADA BUM DADA
Marred by the fact that there's a better Yes record and that the first track outshines the rest of the record
Listening to this while driving to something you’re late for is a good idea
