Can’t go wrong with Aretha.
Depeche Mode has a very distinct sound and this album is full of it. But no songs really stood out to me. It was more suited to ambient background music than anything else. Not hard to listen to, but I didn’t find it interesting either.
Great album full of familiar songs. Easy to listen to over and over again without getting sick of it.
Good album with some standout songs, but not necessarily one I’d listen to over and over. Had “Jet” stuck in my head most of the day. Was also a fan of Picasso’s last words as it was basically 4 versions of the same song in different styles on 1 track.
So much saxophone. 80s R&B has never really been my thing. There’s nothing bad on this album, but there’s also nothing I loved. Without Sade’s smooth voice, it’s just synthy elevator music. Her voice is very soothing, though, so it was kind of relaxing. But definitely not something I will ever listen to again.
I loved this one. The harmonies made me happy!
Fun Beach Boy-esque harmonies and a tinge of 60s psychedelics. There was a point in my life where I would have listened to this over and over again. A Rose for Emily is a brutal song, but I really did enjoy the album.
I can appreciate Jack White, but I’m not a White Stripes fan. The songs on this album with little to no drums were great and enjoyable. But Meg White sure loves her cymbals. Any song with drums just turned into noise for me and lost all musicality.
One of my all-time favorite albums. It’s been on my “desert island list” since I got it as part of my introductory package to BMG. While I hated the drumming on the White Stripes album, Tre Cools drumming is possibly my favorite part of dookie. The rhythms are unique and interesting and well-integrated into each song. I could (and did) listen to this album on repeat. It’s comforting when something you discovered and fell in love with at 14 years old still brings the same joy over 30 years later. Dookie is just a fun album full of memorable songs.
I own this album, but now I know why I never listened to it much. The sound that was so unique when the Strokes came out gets monotonous over an entire album. The only standout songs are the ones that were singles: Last Night and Someday. This album is a snap shot in time of when people thought rock and roll was over and the Strokes came out with a new unique rock sound. But years later it doesn’t hold up to the hype.
I was surprised by this album first by its release date (I would have sworn it was from the 60s), and then by how much I liked it. I’ll definitely listen again.
Not my thing. Grating and made me anxious.
Fine for background music, but not great for close listening. Songs could all benefit from being about 2 minutes shorter.
Fine. Nothing bad but nothing super impressive, either. I still like The Breeders better.
I listened to the deluxe version of the album, which I think is the entire concert and is about 3 times longer than the original version. It was fine, solid Who until they got to the Tommy section. Then they just opened up and were amazing. Knocking off a star just because I don’t think the original album included the parts I found amazing here!
Great album. I can hear influences on Carbon Leaf, Oasis, and The Verve.
I did not listen to the whole album, but liked what I heard. Sounded like an album from the 60s in a different language,
Oh yea, another experimental psychedelic album from the 60s. The songs the woman sang on were mostly good. Some were even great. But the album as a whole is not something I’ll ever listen to again.
A classic. Only a few songs on this album weren’t huge hits. Fun to revisit an album I listened to constantly as a kid.
Great, fun album. Got a little monotonous toward the end, otherwise it would have gotten 4 stars.
I get why The White Stripes were such a big deal when this album came out. The album is eclectic, yet ties together. It’s hard rocking but also tinged with honky tonk. A fun interesting listen that’s still pretty unique over 20 years later. Not sure it will ever make it into heavy rotation for me, though.
If I had discovered this album when it came out, I probably would have been totally into it. It’s such a reflection of music at the time. It made me nostalgic. The beats are great and had me bopping, but I can’t say it’s something I’ll listen to much again.
Great debut album. Interesting to hear The Who before they figured out they wanted to be more than just another Rolling Stones or Beatles.
Solid 70s rock album.
Not my thing. Might have been a tolerable song here and there, but mostly just noise.
Not a bad listen. Nothing wowed me, though.
This is a great album for dancing in a club. But for general listening, it gets too repetitive for me.
Great early alternative album
Brought me back memories of bright colors and watching Real World marathons while doing homework. Loved it!
Hard to believe that REM’s first album came out n 1983. Their music was definitely 10 years ahead of its time. Great album.
It’s fine. Just boring. Not really my thing. I didn’t finish the album.
Solid album. Never been a huge fan of Radiohead, but this was a good listen.
Fantastic album!
Good. Liked it more than I expected to, but nothing jumped out at me. And some of the songs are entirely too long.
Solid Elvis Costello album but nothing absolutely amazing.
Started out strong. I thought I was going to like it, but I didn’t.
Can’t go wrong with Aretha.
Eh. Honestly didn’t finish the album. Got bored with it.
I don’t get it. This was awful. Most of the songs sounded like SNL parodies of 90s R&B. So many of the lyrics were just too cheesy to be taken seriously.
I’ve always enjoyed Missy Elliott, but never listened to an entire album. But I really enjoyed this.
Great early U2. Another band that came out of the gate fully formed.
Impressive early Metallica. Lars’ drumming is always amazing. James’ lyrics as well. Not as good as the Black album, but still really, really good.
Could listen to this one over and over.
Other than the first song, this album is just not very good.
I can kind of see how someone could love this album, but that’s not me. There were parts that were almost good, but it all needed a little more editing and tweaking.
Great harmonies.
I didn’t get far. Not a fan of whisper singing.
Loud noise
Led Zeppelin has never been my favorite, but I appreciate them. And this is a great album.
Great album from an amazing musician.
Iconic. One of the best live albums of all time, if not the best.
Loved it. I’d never heard it before (except 1 song), but I can hear how it influenced so many other songs/artists/movies so love.
This was awful. Almost comically bad. It feels like he did the entire album by himself with a computer and guitar. The songs are all boring. He seems like he has a good voice, but is maybe singing in the wrong range? Something about his singing was just bad.
