1001 Albums Summary

Good early peppers.

Maybe it’s because I havn’t listened to piano music in awhile, but really enjoyed the listen.

Not everything Dylan touched was gold…

Arguably the 5th or 6th best Stevie album…. But it’s still Stevie. 4/5

Great album… but trying to be judicious in the rankings. Very solid 3/5

Beatles are one of the biggest bands ever for a reason… but not one of their best albums. 3.5

Solid 3.5. REM is one of those bands I liked in high school and still really enjoy. I really wish they would play live again! It’s a unique voice on top of solid instrumentals. Not REM’s best album, but a lot to like.

His album Harvest is a 5… after the gold rush…a 2.5. He has a unique voice that, for me, only works on certain songs. This album has some… but just some.

I like a good rap album with skits. It’s nostalgic and can be clever. This wasn’t my favorite… but respect the artistry. 2.5

Talking heads are a favorite (Remain in the Light is an all time album). This album has its bright moments… but also had a few lowlights as well. I’ll go 3.5.

Don’t know if it’s because it’s a Friday and it is getting warmer out, but really enjoyed the listen. Much better than the other Dylan album. Solid 4

Funky, groovy, and on YouTube because… you know, Spotify, so I had to stay engaged. Anytime an album makes you want to get up and dance… solid.

Listening brought me back to Graceland… Elvis’ story is so complicated and sad… but I feel like 60’s Elvis was a little too canned. 3.4

I feel like the 80s are a bit of a hole in my listening habits, but maybe I should revisit. Really great album. There is a reason he is in hall of fame.

He has such a deep catalog… liked it alot more than the previous album we reviewed. Fun experimental 70s album… sign me up.

100/10… one of my favorites bands of all time. Just the right amount of energy/funk/rock/hiphop/freedom. Also one of the most electric live bands out there. A true 5 gem.

I’ll go 3.4…. Early electronic sounds that are fun for a moment, but no sticking power FOR ME (I capitalized “for me,” so don’t “at” me). I really want it to be cooler…

Never heard of this group before, but the voice was pretty recognizable. Of Albarn’s projects, blur and Gorillaz are far better (IMO) than this record. I probably like rocket juice and the moon more too… but don’t mean this album is bad… maybe will grow on me.

Good synth fun… but not something I will revisit. It’s like art where you are like… that’s nice but not something I will seek out.

Really dig this album. It’s fun, accessible and musically interesting. 4.7.

Do I not like Bowie’s voice? Is that it? Other than some hits, I have not dug deep into Bowie. Most of these songs started with a decent groove and some sax too…Bowie’s voice didn’t make them better. (Although Fame is an absolute banggggger). 3.6

I really like Curtis Mayfield’s voice though.. and that funk. Going 4.1 on this.

I know I’m supposed to like dinosaur jr more, but it has never clicked for me. Decent rock…but really only a 2.1 today.

When born on the bayou started, I knew I was in the right place. Proud Mary… yes! Could have done without the good golly Miss Molly cover… but love me some ccr. 4.4

When I first read it I thought it said Sex Pistols, clicked the link and the humpty dance came on… there was a real cheesy period of rap and this fit right in that. I can get down at times, but only a 2.3 for me.

I really liked this album when it came out. I still think Two Weeks is a great capture of the sound of that period. However, the rest of the album has not held up for me. Going to go 2.7 on this one. Not horrible, but a fading tribute to 2009.

I loved this album in the 90s and I still love it. Some of it is experimental, but the thing about experimental music is the more you listen to it the more approachable it comes and it just becomes a jam. 4.4.

You know when a singer is so bad you actually end up enjoying it? It’s giving those vibes… for the first few songs and then it dies off. A bit of a temu ramones/stones. Didn’t hate it… but also not going to add it to the rotation. 2.7

When I started it I really dug the music… but then the dude started singing … ugh… do not like his voice. What does Linda see in him? Is he hung like a horse? I don’t know… I don’t get it. There is a version on Spotify that included some live songs - those were the highlights for me. 2.8

That’s a five from me. Musically it tickles my brain the right way. It just makes me smile and want to dance. I have lots of great memories of this album. I bought it in vinyl at amoeba in Hollywood, saw Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew play it in full in Chicago a few years ago, and recently saw David Byrne play some songs for this album. Everyone it just makes me want to smile and put on an oversized suit and dance. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Love me some Tupac. His flow and beats harken of a simpler time 😂 … but will say some of the harsher lyrics are a bit off putting in a weird way (where as in high school I was all about it 🤷) . Man I would old. Dear mama is an absolute gem. I’m going to go 4.4.

I have a love hate relationship with this album. Beautiful day, stuck in a moment, elevation… one of the best first three songs on an album… but then it fizzles for me. I get it, everyone hates u2 because they forced everyone to get their album on apple… but they have hits… just that the rest of the songs don’t do it for me. 3.0

I don’t know what to say… I love it… but feel like Radiohead has so many other better albums. Hearing it with my noice canceling headphones certainly enhances the album. 4.1

When I saw this pop up, I thought instant 5… and after listening for the millionth time, I still agree. The only knock is his best song (imo <- that is how kids say in my opinion… weird I know) northern sky is in a different album. I found Nick drake in college, and the person who introduced me to him was kinda pretentious so I thought I shouldn’t like Nick drake, but I love his music. I revisit it often. Never gets old. His story is so sad… gone too soon. But sometimes those tortured have some of the most beautiful things to say. 5
