Popular Reviews

Vauxhall And I by Morrissey

Sorry! Moz freaked it on this one!

The White Album by Beatles

The poster child of being greater than the sum of your parts.

All Ratings (160)

Graceland by Paul Simon
Jan 28 2026

I could call him Al, but I'll call this album pretty darn great.

1984 by Van Halen
Jan 29 2026

They play the shit out of these songs. Too bad the writing isn't terribly compelling.

25 by Adele
Jan 30 2026

Some wonderful songs even if I don't consider it outstanding.

The Specials by The Specials
Jan 31 2026

I don't think ska is for me--and probably a larger problem I have with punk where the intensity or energy overshadows other qualities that I value in songcraft. That said, this is good fun and I see why it's a classic.

Scream, Dracula, Scream by Rocket From The Crypt
Feb 02 2026

Gonna give this two stars because, while it's a fine album, we're grading this on a curve of essential listening for one's entire life. And while I did not hate any moment of this, very little of it left me with anything I'll remember.

Bad by Michael Jackson
Feb 03 2026

A solid end to the Quincey/MJ collaboration. A steely collection of songs where Michael has never sounded tighter. Love the edge on this thing.

Feb 05 2026

Nice! Love how varied it is! Sinéad has presence for days! Wish I liked the songwriting more!

The Last Of The True Believers by Nanci Griffith
Feb 06 2026

Like a warm summer's evening. Exquisite, deceptively simple writing and performances. May never be a huge favorite but is enchanting nonetheless.

Django Django by Django Django
Feb 08 2026

Fun album! If my life weren't in total upheaval this week, I'd probably enjoy it a great deal more.

Foxbase Alpha by Saint Etienne
Feb 09 2026

Maybe I'll listen to this without the added tracks on the U.S. edition. But there's some lovely stuff here.

Feb 11 2026

2000s indie folk was catnip for teen me, and honestly, this really scratched that itch. Lush, full of presence, with wonderful songwriting.

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
Feb 12 2026

What a vibe! So gentle! Does any particular track stand out? Not particularly. Yet, I am nonetheless transported.

Pornography by The Cure
Feb 13 2026

SIMPLY THE BEST!!!!

Are You Experienced by Jimi Hendrix
Feb 14 2026

Is it fully my thing? Nah. But there are a bunch of incredible songs and some of the most forward-thinking production ever.

Sister by Sonic Youth
Feb 15 2026

Sonic Youth's final hour. Or 45 minutes or whatever.

Feb 19 2026

Absolutely stunning, and while this is a little out of my zone, I'm so happy I get to listen to more country music through this project.

Blur by Blur
Feb 21 2026

I've been a Blur skeptic/agnostic, but this puts most of my indifference to rest. Really strong stuff.

Maxinquaye by Tricky
Feb 22 2026

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Yes, YES!!!!

C'est Chic by CHIC
Feb 24 2026

Millimeters from perfection.

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Feb 27 2026

Mad I can't give this six stars.

Doolittle by Pixies
Feb 28 2026

The best to do it.

Moon Safari by Air
Mar 01 2026

Pretty good. For the purposes of this project, gonna rate it a little lower, but it's absolutely worth checking out.

Medúlla by Björk
Mar 02 2026

Speaks for itself.

Debut by Björk
Mar 03 2026

Maybe still her best!!

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads
Mar 05 2026

It's a fine debut but they get so much better than this.

Songs The Lord Taught Us by The Cramps
Mar 08 2026

Really surprised me. Could definitely see myself bumping this up. Good stuff.

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka
Mar 10 2026

Hey! A pleasant surprise!

Will The Circle Be Unbroken by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Mar 12 2026

Totally pleasant. Beautifully recorded and performed. Wish there were more highlights and less patter.

Let Love Rule by Lenny Kravitz
Mar 13 2026

Giving this the softest of 2s only because the production is so ahead of its time. Otherwise, this really stinks.

Blue by Joni Mitchell
Mar 16 2026

Maybe her third or fourth best album and a total masterpiece.

I See A Darkness by Bonnie "Prince" Billy
Mar 18 2026

As great as I remember, maybe better.

2112 by Rush
Mar 19 2026

Rush is never going to be my thing but I enjoy and appreciate most of what's going on here a great deal.

Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane
Mar 21 2026

If the back half sags a little, it doesn't hurt it so much that this it's not one of the best albums ever recorded.

Synchronicity by The Police
Mar 23 2026

Very uneven, but the highs are so strong. Should've been an album of songs as good as "Every Breath You Take" and "King of Pain."

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Mar 24 2026

You know what rules about this album? Literally every moment of it.

Liege And Lief by Fairport Convention
Mar 25 2026

Takes a bit of a dip in the back half. Gonna give this the softest of fours. This is really good.

The Man Who by Travis
Mar 26 2026

*shrug* I had a nice time.

Dig Me Out by Sleater-Kinney
Mar 27 2026

An album I'll come back to every five or six years and like. This would be the first time I loved it.

Hysteria by Def Leppard
Mar 29 2026

Would be a four if the back half were stronger but this is a lot of fun. Only really demands much because the songs go on for so long but rarely overstay their welcome individually.

Happy Sad by Tim Buckley
Mar 30 2026

Stunning and deeply sad. I love it.

The Score by Fugees
Apr 01 2026

Not my favorite east coast classic but I appreciated it far more this time around.

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Apr 02 2026

Probably my lowest scoring Radiohead album on this list.

Pretenders by Pretenders
Apr 04 2026

Was going to give this a three on the outside, but the way this evolves and grows is simply too effective. Soft four.

1989 by Taylor Swift
Apr 05 2026

Skipping ahead to this one. Lower on my T-Swift rankings but I can't deny it's got more juice than not.

Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
Apr 06 2026

What's going on with that sailor portion?

Here, My Dear by Marvin Gaye
Apr 09 2026

Wish these immaculate songs were in service of better developed storytelling.

Apr 10 2026

Simply not as aligned with this one as I'd like to be but it has plenty of strong moments.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Apr 13 2026

Yeah, it's Murmur. It rocks.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Apr 14 2026

Wish the rest was as strong as its mind-melting bookends, but it's still great.

Transformer by Lou Reed
Apr 15 2026

Wish this did more for me.

Vauxhall And I by Morrissey
Apr 17 2026

Sorry! Moz freaked it on this one!

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails
Apr 19 2026

One of the most absorbing and bruising rock records ever made. Blistering and wounded and beautiful.

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Apr 20 2026

I mean... their best? Maybe???

Miriam Makeba by Miriam Makeba
Apr 23 2026

Pretty! Wish there was more there!

Abraxas by Santana
Apr 24 2026

Funky!

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
Apr 25 2026

Wish I liked this a little more.

Let It Be by The Replacements
Apr 27 2026

Top five of all time for me.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Apr 28 2026

Top 10, maybe top 20. It had been a while since I revisited this. Happy to report the magic is still there.

Bug by Dinosaur Jr.
Apr 30 2026

Wild!

Casanova by The Divine Comedy
May 01 2026

Meh. I didn't hate this.

The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monáe
May 03 2026

Still really good. Wish I thought it was great.

Kenza by Khaled
May 06 2026

Has a handful of outstanding tracks but is way too long.

Deep Purple In Rock by Deep Purple
May 08 2026

Rocks hard. I'm almost certainly never going to listen to this ever again.

May 09 2026

I haven't listened to this in full this decade but I've listened to it overall more times than I can remember. I know it too well and it is too formative for me not to have a place in my heart for it.

Drunk by Thundercat
May 17 2026

Funky also!

Signing Off by UB40
May 18 2026

Expected a much weaker album and just thoroughly enjoyed all of it, even if I wish it cut the three or four weakest songs.

Dirt by Alice In Chains
May 19 2026

If I were in a slightly better mood, I might bump it up, but I'm just not totally feeling this today.

Be by Common
May 23 2026

Super solid!

Tarkus by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
May 25 2026

It's to the detriment of this album that it has a monster ambitious suite that rocks so hard, and then a bunch of songs that are merely okay.

I Should Coco by Supergrass
May 26 2026

Kinda wish each song was about 10% stronger.

Smokers Delight by Nightmares On Wax
May 28 2026

Too long, but moment to moment, I'm having a great time.

Who's Next by The Who
May 30 2026

Classic rock at its absolute finest.

Sail Away by Randy Newman
Jun 01 2026

Whatabanger!

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Jun 02 2026

Top heavy but good throughout.

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Jun 03 2026

I love this album so much, but I can't quite justify giving it a 5 today. Very close, though!

Berlin by Lou Reed
Jun 05 2026

A strong improvement on Transformer.

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Jun 06 2026

Rock music is the best.

Jun 09 2026

Very close to a five. Just a few songs too long. Otherwise, lives up to the hype.

Jun 10 2026

I liked this okay but it really wore on my by the end. Half a very good album couched in some novelty nonsense.

Palo Congo by Sabu
Jun 12 2026

Almost 70 years old, yet it feels utterly timeless.

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean
Jun 13 2026

Love this with all of my heart.

She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper
Jun 14 2026

Hey, I'll have what she's having.

Jun 15 2026

Even if it's a few songs too long, it's still so good track by track that I gotta give it the highest marks.

Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Jun 16 2026

This has pushed back my project a few weeks because I had to listen to every Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds album. Zero regrets.

Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout
Jun 17 2026

Shockingly catchy and smooth. Love it.

Ten by Pearl Jam
Jun 20 2026

Yeah, sure.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Jun 21 2026

In my bones, this one!

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Jun 22 2026

Should've been the start of a starling career. Still a formidable set of songs.

The White Album by Beatles
Jun 23 2026

The poster child of being greater than the sum of your parts.

Djam Leelii by Baaba Maal
Jun 24 2026

Too long, but very good.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Jun 25 2026

Hey! That's pretty good!

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top
Jun 26 2026

Not bad, but not my thing.

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Jun 27 2026

As a Stones skeptic, I gotta give it up!

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Jun 28 2026

Look, I might give this a four in the future, but I really only care about "Life on Mars?".

In Utero by Nirvana
Jun 29 2026

Nirvana's best???

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Jun 30 2026

Even a slightly lower tier Nina Simone album is some of the best music ever recorded.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jul 03 2026

Music is the best.

Tommy by The Who
Jul 13 2026

I like the album Tommy!
