Ambient 1/Music For Airports

Harrasta tunnelmaa. Ambienttitunnelmien osalta pääsin vain Lost in Translation -leffaan tai korkeintaan lentokentän miestenhuoneeseen. Olikohan tämä jotenkin kulttuurihistoriallisesti merkittävä uranuurtajalevy ambienttimusiikin tms. saralla? Julkaisuvuonnaan 1978 tämä saattoi olla hyvinkin oivaltavaa settiä ja inspiroinut muita.

Very interesting and soothing

i thought this would be good as background music but I actually found it rather grating and repetitive. 4/10

Super chill and gentle! Not really sure why its on this list but is great background, definitely helped me concentrate. 8/10 for nice sounds

Okay, so this is exactly what it says it is. Not sure why this is included in 1001 albums I should listen to before I die. Just straight spa music. I guess if I were in an airport and this were happening I would be pleasantly surprised. I would’ve named this album, “Ambient music for an expensive rub and tug.” I’m talking the type of spa with infused water, and oil diffusers that somehow don’t make the whirring noise.

8/10 I guess, really pleasant ambient music. But still ambient music, so not the most exciting listen.

I have this one on quite frequently whilst I work - on that basis, it's absolutely the perfect accompaniment to some gentle cogitating. The title gives it away, even if Eno was being semi-ironic - it's functional music. And on that basis, a triumph

If we were rating purely ambient albums I think this would probably be a pretty good one. However, I spent most of the runtime wishing I was listening to almost anything else. The sound itself wasn’t unpleasant so it lands somewhere around a 4.

It's literally just ambient music. Sounds like it could be part of a movie as background music during a dramatic scene or explanation of something at best. 2/10.

Crazy to see how far back ambient music goes and how far it’s come. However, it seems a bit ludicrous to have to rate it next to traditional albums of popular music genres.

I really like that first track! After that, it all just made me sleeeeeepy. Love the concept of writing an album to try and improve the crappy canned music at airports though, and can definitely hear the influence that first track had on a whole lot of film scores.

De vuelta con Eno, no es fácil de calificar. Supongo para quien sea un fanático del estilo de música ambiental esta es una obra maestra. El disco está tremendamente bien mezclado y armado, por ahí en la Wikipedia menciona que al armar el disco "la música se diseñó para que se repita continuamente como una instalación sonora, con la intención de desactivar la atmósfera tensa y ansiosa de una terminal de aeropuerto evitando los elementos derivados y familiares de la típica "música enlatada"" y no se puede negar que cumple su propósito. Es relajante, ideal para trabajar, meditar, tener un fondo suave que ulula. Como disco para escuchar convencionalmente obviamente no cuadra, no hay mucho que analizar o sentarse a desarmar, no hay melodías, solo "ambiente." Añadido a lo anterior, sí me parecen desiguales las pistas y por un lado 1/1 y 2/2 (la 1 y 4) me parecen muchísimo mejores que 2/1 y 1/2; las últimas siento abusan un poco de coros tipo new age mientras que las otras una es una tonada dulce relajante de piano y la otra me hace pensar en Kubrik y el espacio. Muy buen e interesante disco para la situación correcta.

Creo que no es música para aeropuertos porque si la pusieran, los pasajeros se quedarían dormidos en las salas de espera y no abordarían. El personal no podría despertar a los pasajeros porque estarían dormidos y los aviones, o no se moverían y peor aún, chocarían en descontrol porque los pilotos estarían dormidos. Supongo que está bien hecha y tiene momentos lindos, sobre todo hacia el final, pero claramente no es mi tipo de música, el piano está bien, crea una atmósfera nostálgica y eso tiene mérito pero hasta ahí. Espero que no vengan más discos así.

Yes please. So very pleasant and I believe wholly met Eno's goal of creating music equally interesting and ignorable.

I guess I don't get this. I do like Ambient music on the whole, but don't really get this. I also admire Brian Eno for work he's done elsewhere. But this just sounds like somebody randomly hitting piano keys intermittently. Why? Should I be doing drugs or something?

OK, for sure Brian Eno is a genius, but sometimes I'm listening to something like this and wondering if it's a case where being a genius means you get to just noodle around for an hour sometimes. Im sure some smarty pants would be able to tell me off.

Cumple su objetivo, desde el disco pasado ahora me emocioné al ver a Eno de nuevo y esperé hasta tener buena carga de trabajo para ponerlo mientras

Esto es lo que me imaginaba que íbamos a oír cuando salió Brian Eno por primera vez y aquel disco fue distinto. Este quizá sí cumple el propósito de sur música relajante que llene un espacio estresante con algo mejor y eso le alcanza para la segunda estrella.

Die Piano-Figur in 1/1 ist wenig originell und vergällt mit das ganze Stück. Vorweggenommene Windows95-Startup-Sounds. 2/2 ist NICHTS. 1/2: gähn. Eigentlich sind die alle uninteressant. Könnte auch in Fahrstühlen oder auf Autobahn-Toiletten laufen.

Ambient music is not my jam. I always prefer something with energy and drive. I expected this album to be a complete waste of my time. But... somehow... it's not. It's totally ignorable but also not offensively bland. It DOES have layers of interest. The engineering on this album is absolutely top-notch. Way beyond its time. I was actually kinda into the first track. The second track, however, completely lost me with its constantly ebbing and flowing generic human voices. It was creepy AF, to be honest. The third track redeems those vocals by using them as texture to a primarily piano-focused track. But it's only the first and fourth tracks that are listenable, in my opinion. It gets more stars than I anticipated giving it but it's still not a great listen overall.

It's good airport music but I'm too small brain for this shit.

Not too bad for ambient stuff but wouldn't say it really took me to a higher plane or anything

Not something i enjoy as background music but when actively listening with headphones it's really nice and almost hypnotic.
