Reviews (page 8 of 8)

This is album is just shit.

I reviewed this when it came out in 1978. It was pointless,46 years later I went back to it - still pointless.

If this was playing at the airport while I was waiting for my flight...I would have passed out. The man is known to be experimental and developed this genre but it was so slow and boring I was almost begging for some Bill Evans Trio or John Zorn. More like Ambien x10:Music for Insomniacs...zzzzzz...0.2.

Hard to rate something like this as it's not a traditional album in any sense. If you are going into this looking for music you'll get nothing out of it. Overall, it's nothing great and not something I'll ever sit and listen to again. However, I give credit to Brian Eno for trying develop something for ambient listening. It's nothing something I explicitly enjoy, but could see it as passive background music in a lounge, waiting room, elevator, whatever. I think this album in general is more of a thought-piece than work of musical art. Incidentally, it works for background noise when sitting around with a 1-week old infant. I'll probably check out the rest of Eno's Ambient series just as background noise when I can't have sounds distracting a sleeping baby. 1.01 stars with a pretty big asterisk*

Too weird to critique

STANDOUTS: NONE WTF IS THIS OVERALL: 1/5; it's all just AMBIENT NOISES

Nein, beruhigt mich nicht. Macht mich voll aggro. Kann aber auch daran liegen, dass ich im Moment nicht in einem Flughafen bin, sondern in meinem Büro sitze. Sorry Brian Eno.

Shite.

50 minutes of nothing

This is so ambient. It's SO AMBIENT. 1/5

Didn’t enjoy this at all.

It's hard to rate an album that was literally written not to be listened too. TBH even for background music I found it quite boring. Not for me at all

Ambient music makes me want to kill.

Repetitive and uninspiring

k coño?

No, only wild world.

Fuck no. 1

Seriously? The maker of this list needs to be shot

As if people needed another reason to hate airports...

Not interested in airport music

I forgot it was on at one point and went out.

Für Airports ok (wenn's nicht so runterziehen würde)

Numbing to the senses

#145. Just like that Barry Adamson soundtrack album that isn't actually a soundtrack for anything, the main question I have for this is- Why? Why does this exist? Why would you intentionally make music for the sole purpose that no one will want to listen to it? 1/5: dumb

Half of the album reminded me of the sound that comes from tap when you open it, but there is no water, just the air is coming out.

Nothingness. Not cool, mysterious, thought provoking nothingness. Just... nothing.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

1/1 - interesting, defined, loved the little melodies dancing throughout. The long draw of the organ puts you in a place. The piano warms it. Really liked the ambiance it builds. 2/1 - not interesting, unless you like really slow swells made from boring vocal samples. I wouldn't listen to this while doing yoga, but I'd play it if I was struggling to sleep at night. 1/2 - Took the good piano from the first song and ruined it with the same bad samples from the previous song. 2/2 - Now, let's turn the bad samples into some okay sounding horns, but keep the swells. I wouldn't listen to this in an airport. It's not for an airport. It's more suited to a late night drive after you broke up with your S.O., or as a soundtrack to a short indie film about a someone struggling with depression. But, that's what most ambient music sounds like to me.

And why is this in the list for people to hear this????? Seems more that someone has a hard on for Brian Eno to include yet another one of his voring albums. So it's minimalist music... Big deal... why did I need to hear this for review?

I think this is the music that is playing when you take the underground walkway between terminals in Detroit. Interesting listen....but not for me.

Not saying it is bad, I just don’t think this should be in the list.

Technically music I suppose. Inoffensive. High 1. Might be useful for occasions when you have a relative lying in state.

What an absolute waste of time – I don't care if this was the first ambient album or has any historical significance therein, it is elevator music plain and simple. I have ranted about this at length, but it's immensely disappointing that electronica is one of my lowest-rated genres here when it's one of my absolute faves in real life. The selections are so heavily weighted towards the generic breakbeat and ambient of the 90s that it's a joke, music that hasn't aged well at all. This is the genre that is redefining what music can sound like and truly be through crazy synths, imaginative sampling, and wild instrumental developments, and yet the project thinks this is what matters? Fucking bullshit I say.

Not sure that was music sounded like Ross on Friends playing his keyboard. Have traveled a lot and have never heard anything like that in an airport.

Not my cup of tea.

A little to ambient for me... sleepy time

Is this musak? Inquiry minds want to know. Maybe I'll learn to appreciate it at some point in the airport. But most recently, all I hear is, "Smithers, why are we not taking my private jet? Why are you forcing me to listen to stuff? Any one of these plebians will infect me with God only know what diseases." So really, in the vast land of bread, this is probably saltine crackers. Except that you could die taking the saltines challenge. Maybe this is what this challenge is about. Can you actually listen to all 1001 albums without dying? Saltines, it is.

didn't like it

i will TRY to listen to this entire album. Wish me luck No, i couln't. This is giving me Clonachu vibes

i'm sorry this album was just annoying

I refuse to listen to this. I don't love him to begin with, but knowing that this was written basically *not* to be listened to makes me not want to listen that much more. Sadly I can't give 0/5 stars.

Filosofiskt intressant på så sätt att eno utforskar gränsen mellan ljud och musik

Va? Medvetet för att spelas i bakgrunden. Ledsen men det är ingen bedrift. Fuck you Eno!

Pretentiöst bajs. Får tuppjuck på sån här skit.

Ok....I guess

Can't remember

Too slow for my taste. More like elevator music.

I don't know, why this is on here... I'll say it's not for me, but I genuinely don't know what would make this album special. I suppose it started a new genre? But even then it just seemed very very boring.

boring.

WTF? I Rate this .75.

Album title is accurate. Wouldn't choose to listen to this again.

I imagine being at an airport nowadays would be bad enough without having to listen to this snoozefest. Yawn.

I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS

That was truly dull and maybe I don’t get it.

Wow. Slow goins, huh, Brian? What a boring album. First track was single piano notes, next was mind numbing aahs. Half expected the third song (if you don’t mind me calling them songs) to be a single snare drum being hit slowly and melodically, but no. The aahs stayed and the one fingered pianist was brought back for an encore. Final track, and there are only four, was the most exciting and if you just listen to the final track you’d be like “This is the exciting one?”. Also, what was with the 20ish seconds of silence that closed out each track? Truly an atrocious piece of work. The only kind of good thing I can say about it is that it sounds like an intriguing idea in theory. I realized that I had actually listened to this album before, but I forgot because it was so uneventful, and, please I beg of thee, let me forget the 48 minutes I wasted enduring this again. 1/5

Didn't listen at airport, didn't work for me.

Am I in the wrong place

I don't understand why this would be good for airports. This would be perfect background music for a David Attenborough documentary or something, but the music by itself is extremely boring. Nobody needs to hear this album before they die.

This is legit music for Airports...

😴😴😴

Weird and somehow boring

Maybe this will calm down my dog when he’s fired up. Outside of that, can’t figure out a good reason for this to exist. Eno = Oh No

very ambient, very boring

Bit boring to be honest.

I fall asleep to this music, I also fall asleep to silence so it's not saying much. 2/10

Honestly shit dont listen -2/10

Shut up Ryan. No one wants to hear about how this is a 5 star album.

Reiluuden nimissä en arvostele tätä levynä vaan rentoutumisvälineenä. Rentouttava musiikki eikä kuitenkaan ikinä ole rentouttanut minua, mikä lienee epäreilua.

1 star

It’s literally background music. It’s not bad background music, but it’s not meant to be fully listened to as an album like one would with pretty much everything else on this list.

Probably really good but ambient music is just not for me

The musical equivalent of eating flavourless foam: light, airy, bland, and insubstantial. Maybe it pairs well with something, but on its own is wholly unsatisfying.

So....yeah....saw the name Eno and after trying to listen to this, started thinking back to when Dan Enos was QB at MSU late 80's, early 90s. Perles was coach and Sparty had very good teams. Not good enough to beat the Irish, but good enough to win big 10. Back when college football was more than NIL and 2 super conferences, like they're working towards... Anyway, I checked out about 10-15 minutes in and started daydreaming about other things. Can't wait for the weekend Back to the album. Zero for me. Hope there aren't many more like this.

1 I appreciate the album going ahead and rating itself for me in the title. I was bored about 5 minutes in, and it didn't get any better from there. It didn't even do anything interesting... like it just repeated the same piano patterns and vocal harmonies for like 10+ minutes at a time. I would say to leave this at the airport, but then I read the below on the album's Wikipedia page: "The album has been installed and performed in at least five airports; it has been met with resistance from some travellers and workers, who deem it disruptive." So I guess it's not welcome at airports either ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I know a lot of people find ambient music calming and good to get work done to, and I can definitely understand that, but still, not for me.

The title already says it.. Music for airports.. I mean, the music is calm and relaxing and may be great for studying or as background music. But this is a list for the best albums and I think there are thousands of albums that deserve the spot of this album.

Ambient music as advertised - fell asleep after 30seconds

This kind of music is not something that I enjoy. Not my cup of tea!

I don't get it. Sounds like I could make it in garage band in a few hours

Not one for me, find it too ambient for my taste.

More like massage music if you ask me.

Mijn hemel!

Boring!

Va bien te faire foutre Brian

Well does what is says on the tin. Can't recommend or ever say I'd listen to this again and if I did I wouldn't even realise. Total background music

Slow, boring, fucking awful. The first "song" sounds like the same 3 notes played over and over again for 6 minutes. I kept listening in hopes for something in the "music" to pick up and enjoy but eventually gave up. The second song I lasted for 4 minutes of the repeated moaning and vague hints of music in the background. 3rd song sounded like the 1st and second song mixed together and I got frustrated and stopped listening all together. Play this music on the plane if you want to sleep the whole trip. Terrible.

The title of the album says it all. It is ambient music. In no way is ambient music noteworthy. It is just there. No need for an entire album of it. No need to hear this ambient music before you die.

Zzzzzz

Very 😢 music

This gave me a literal headache

Good for sleeping, nothing else

I just… like, why?? It should not be on the list. There’s nothing about this album that is culturally significant. It’s music. Okay, I’ll give it that. But to say this should be included with the likes of Bowie, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Nirvana… actual artists whose work was impactful? That’s insane. This doesn’t fit.

Not a fan of Eno's ambient phase. Love his early Psycha-Glitter mode and Faux Velvets, but I don't "get" Ambient Music.

Glazba za tipa main menu u igri, al nije u igri, album je ko album i ne mog/ne želim

September 21, 2021 This was ok at first to have in the background while I worked, but dear god do all the songs sound the same and I just wanted it to end.

Absolutely hated this album. I can see its virtues for some people but definitely not one for me.

halojatahalloo, väsy tulloo. kuuntelen kuitenkin paljon ambienttia ja instrua, mutta heisunheiluvilles pitää etsiä uusi eno markkinoilta; ellei jopa EMO.

You wouldn’t be able to hear it in an airport ! *

Okay, so this is exactly what it says it is. Not sure why this is included in 1001 albums I should listen to before I die. Just straight spa music. I guess if I were in an airport and this were happening I would be pleasantly surprised. I would’ve named this album, “Ambient music for an expensive rub and tug.” I’m talking the type of spa with infused water, and oil diffusers that somehow don’t make the whirring noise.

Eurgh!

It's literally just ambient music. Sounds like it could be part of a movie as background music during a dramatic scene or explanation of something at best. 2/10.

I don't see why I needed to hear this before I died. Ambient piano music solely for the background. Lost nothing to listen to it. Gained nothing either.

Too dull

trökgubben tycker att det här knappt är musik.
