Reviews (page 7 of 8)
It's just too ambient for me. There is very little there to listen to.
It was sub par! I wanted to take a nap the whole time pretty much but some noises were really enjoyable
More like music for elevators am I right? Good for studying or falling asleep to but I don’t think I’d be in the pit at this show 2.1*

Nicht meine Richtung
Just ok. Kinda interesting from a historical perspective, but not really a great album to have on here
It works as ambient music, not as an album to sit down and listen to
Emh....as an ambient music adept; this one seemed pretty avetage to me. Probably i am missing something. But i did not liked it too much
Definitely suitable for airports
Too ambient, if anything
Sometimes, an album can be influential and beautiful and also an absolute chore to listen to.
Fully forgot I was listening to music as I worked. Liked the first track nest but doubt I'll revisit
Boring but I think that was the point. Don’t feel like I NEEDED to hear it
Hard to say much about this. Obviously a lot of quality, but it's not much fun. Admire it more than I like it.
„Fahrstuhl-Musik“… aber für Flughäfen etc.
Sounds like reiki music
This album is exactly what it says on the tin. I love Brian Eno, especially early Roxy music, but ambient music is never a thrilling listening experience. it works well as background music, but it is thoroughly forgettable 2/5
If you manage to stay awake through the majority of this album you’ll be saddened to learn that there is not an accompanying film to go along with this score-like 4-parter. It’s really just repetitive noise and pulsating crescendos. Nothing remarkable, at all. Dreamy background tunes.
The album consists of four compositions created by layering tape loops of differing lengths, and was designed to be continuously looped as a sound installation, with the intent of defusing the tense, anxious atmosphere of an airport terminal. Interesting. Could be some good background music for today then. Well it's definitely an Ambient sound. It's very peaceful and relaxing.
Missed my flight vibes.
It's cool if you're trying to space out, but it's only a step up from elevator music.
I was listening to this while working. It does exactly what it intended to do, blend into the background. The first song is 17 minutes longs mostly consisting of 2 sparse piano phrases looped over and over. This belongs as the end credits to a movie, or the selection menu of a video or DVD. I get that it was the first of its genre, and inspired all ambient music to come, but it just fades into the background. Which I guess, is it's point.
1001 albums you should not listen to before you die
Great for a relaxing massage in a spa, maybe good in a zen garden or meditation retreat, but not much else
1. ambient 1 - 1.5 2. ambient 2 - 1 3. ambient 3 - 2 4. ambient 4 - 1.5
Boring. I know boring is a super boring descriptive term to use but there’s just not a lot going on here. I’d cruise down the middle with a three if I could find anything to differentiate between the tracks but it sounds like the same idea spread out across the album. It’s inoffensive, I’ll give it that.
It was really pretty but honestly this was not for me.
Much craft here and it sort of had to exist and be made to push and showcase electronic and ambient music but I just wanted it to end or change or do something. I doubt I could even use it for focused work.
I guess I understand why this is here, and it's certainly nice, but it is what it is, which isn't exciting
Sounds like the music they play at the vet to help keep the animals calm
I guess this was significant at the time. The ambient genre is something that requires the right mood. But it was good for what it was I suppose
I put this on as background music, as I guess that's the point of it, and it was alright. It was completely what I was expecting which is ambient music you pay no attention to at all. Is it something you have to hear? No, absolutely not. It's not terrible but very much skippable.
It’s background music. Music for airports indeed. Does what it set out to do, can’t say I enjoyed listening though
I guess it does what Eno intended. Bloody boring.
Effective studying music, and pretty cool that Eno coined the term 'ambient music'.
Interesting concept and many one early examples of the genre. But not for me.
I guess this falls under the "what do I know?" category. As a practicing massage therapist for 15 years, I listened to my share of schlocky new-age, wind chime-laden, wanna-be mystical "soothing" music, and maybe, after 4 hours in a quiet meditative environment, this might have made me feel like I was in a waking dream. But not in a pleasant way. How is this any different than the hundreds of other albums that sound just like it? I tired of that orchestral vocal-synth patch about three minutes into the first track. I appreciate Eno for his production. We've listened to more than one brilliant effort of his (Bowie, U2), but why this? Aggravating.
There is a place for these sounds but it wasn’t my head yesterday.
Miksi tämä levy on tällaisessa listauksessa? Voi juma...
Ei ollu sopiva hetki kuunnella, joten meni vähän ohi. Varmasti toimis tosi hyvin oikeessa paikassa oikeella hetkellä. Tällä kertaa kuitenki kakkonen
Good but not my vibe
This was some excellent background music. But is that an accomplishment that the guy made an album that could be in a David fincher movie. Overall this was very bland but as good as bland could get. I didn’t hate it but can’t find myself listening to it again unless I hear it in the airport as my life slowly passes. 3.6/10
I like this kind of music, but why the fuck is this on this list lmao
Bizarre
I mean... it's ambient music. What am I supposed to say about it? It's pretty, but the whole purpose is to be calming background music. I listen to ambient stuff when I'm studying or just need something on in the background. Of course Brian Eno is the one who coined the term. But, on a list of 1001 albums I have to listen to, is this necessary?
I enjoyed this while working on routine tasks at work. It was fine.
Not my thing
I could die perfectly happy without ever hearing this album
Very peaceful and something I could meditate with.
so boring
Alright for ambient music
Waarom? Omdat Youtube vol moet staan met gegenereerde video's met titels als '6 hours relaxing piano music for study', of '6 hours of beautiful ambient celtic harp music' en '6 hours of chill romantic jazz and bossanova for focus and memory'.
What were people expecting for an album titled Music for Airports? I just don't get what is so interesting? Were these sounds novel in 1988?
At first I thought “wait, another AC/DC album??” Then a few minutes in I realized it was a different artist. I could see myself playing this while trying to relax on an airplane. But not many other situations call for it. At many points this gave off “sad movie soundtrack” vibes. That said, I don’t think the intent with this was to record a #1 hit. Had to skip through some because I try to avoid things that shift my mood in the direction of complete emptiness. But… the goal here was to create ambient music and I suppose this album accomplished that.
I'm not one to listen to Ambient music - but this decent background music/sounds for office working or something that requires focus. The piano tracks are significantly better than the synthesizer tracks in my opinion. I don't think I'd ever listen to this again. It's cool that this was inspirational for some artists I guess.
I can see this album being good for meditating or some other low-brain-activity thing, but as an album of music to just listen to there isn't enough going on to be worth the time. The noises are pleasing enough, but this is background music. These tracks could be great in slow and ambient sections of a video game, maybe one of those indie games that has an emotional scene where the character is learning about their dead/estranged parents' pasts. That or just music on the main menu. It could also serve as backing music at a planetarium show. Musically, each track is very long and basically features just piddling around on instruments (mainly synth) without any kind of structure or much development (also, 30 seconds of dead air at the end of the first track, whyyyy). You could probably recreate this on the fly from an electric piano and maybe a couple of friends running their fingers on the rims of crystal glasses. As negative as that review was, I don't dislike the album. It kind of lulls you into a happy place. This is good to work to if you're doing something interesting enough to keep you awake. I got some good coding done with this on. When evaluated based on what I personally look for in music however, such as instrumentation, musicianship, melody, and song structure, it just doesn't rank very highly.
It was indeed music for airports. Boring but somewhat pleasant.
I'm actually listening to this in an airport. It's pretty, but quite dull. 2.5/5
I think the best way to describe this album would be "deeply unambitious".
okay - not sure how to classify. Pretty chill for certain times of pondering?
Ambiente. Instrumental. Mortalmente aburrido.
Ambient music. I like the concept. But this is a bit intrusive for easy at-home background music. 2.
I think I fell asleep
This needs to go with something. On it's own there's just not enough happening for me (I know that's what ambient is). 1 - bad 2 - average 3 - good 4 - great 5 - outstanding
Every airport has that dreaded customer service desk between security and the gates. This is where you find the most irate people in the airport since the only people who use that desk are ones who, because of a late connecting flight or their own tardiness, missed their flight and need to line up to get more bad news. If this album were played at the airport, I expect the amount of yelling and swearing at this customer service desk would decrease, but the lines at this desk would be longer since people would fall asleep in the airport and miss their flight. I don't like this album but I can't give it a 1 since, as boring as it is, it's infinitely better than muzak.
far too culty for an airport...
Somehow I got to listen to Brian Eno for two days in a row, today was the second day. Yesterday the album was unbearable: https://1001albumsgenerator.com/albums/1m08xZXMNDVCYU7VgUGsme/my-life-in-the-bush-of-ghosts, today's one was maybe a bit bitter though I still didn't like a lot.
literally ambient noise why does Brian have 4 albums on here
This guy ffs
Spa music the missus calls it😂
Hard to rate. It certainly does what it sets out to do. It's good background music. It's far from unpleasant but it's SO BORING. I can't imagine listening to this for pleasure. A 2.5 rounded down to 2 because I would never actually choose to listen to it
Calming. Good for airports.
fuckign boring
I think its cool, but not totally my thing. Imagine if they actually played this in airports?
Where's my massage!?
Effective as noise filler, but certainly not for gratified listening.
No juu on ambientia.
As advertised, this was very much ambient, and wouldn't feel out of place at the airport (or maybe as an airline’s hold music). Unfortunately, that's not really what I'm looking for when I listen to music. I know Eno's a musical genius and all that, but these tracks seemed repetitive and without much variation, and “1/1” seemed to be just an x-second/minute-long patch that was simply repeated over and over for nearly 17.5 minutes (and I swear there's a slightly-tweaked snippet of "Frère Jacques" in there). This isn't something I'd ever listen to purposefully, but it might be good to throw on for a massage or yoga class. Or hey, throw it into a video game. Some of this stuff reminds me of Russell Shaw's soundtrack to "Fable," which has a genuinely fantastic ambient track called "Summer Fields." In fact, Eno's "2/1" sorta reminds me of Shaw's "Fresco Dome" (sorta). Personally, I'd rather listen to the "Fable" soundtrack.
Not a lot happens, sounds like Ross finally found his sound
All prog
It’s interesting but it definitely shouldn’t be in the list
Literally music for airports
Idk not rly my jam
You could certainly tell this has influenced others. Not terrible but probably won’t listen again.
Fuck. I just lost all my comments for this and don’t feel like rewriting them. This was sort of ok, and better than I thought. Still not something I’ll be playing often or much at all.
elevator music not my style
Maybe I’m just not a fan of ambient but this album did nothing for me. I’d rather listen to silence.
An ok ambient record, nothing much to say. First Listen?: Y Fav. Tracks: 1/1 Rating: 2/5
This was the most boring thing I've ever subjected myself to. A star because it was ambient?
When I told someone that there is no such thing as "ambient music" (which, to me, means "background noise"), they responded that "ambient music is ambient sound, but well-organized." I stand by my original statement. The album is appropriately named, however. I've been in airports and heard this same type of thing in the background. I just normally put my headphones in (or hang out at the PF Chang's Airport Bar).
Thought I’d accidentally put on some hypnobirthing music. Somatic furors rip off the bandaid quickly to listen to this one.
A lot can be said about this album's artistic merits, but at the end of the day (hold on, I'm developing a pan here) this is an Eno albums of a style I will only listen to when going to bed.
ughhhh i understand that he’s very influential in making so many different styles of music but this one was just so unnecessary 😝😝😝 it was just boring and 17 minute songs are ugh. i think it was pretty music but for like five minutes.
Supaboring
Did feel a bit too much like an art exhibit
cool and eerie but to a mind numbingly boring level
Background for sure-
It began. It ended. Inbetween it played for eternity. It haunts me still. Like a poltergiest.
I'm pretty sure I heard this in a public sauna once. Actually feels really weird listening to this from the comfort of my home with pants on. I need to be relaxed, dripping with sweat, balls sticking to the wood. I don't know how to rate this. It's an entirely different art form from every other album I've ranked so far. This is not something that's supposed to be listen to. It was specifically designed to be background noise that loops endlessly and can't just be put in the same basket as The Beatles, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, or even Nickleback and Justin Bieber.
Background music.
Not soemthing I would really listen to but I can see why it made it here for its influence.
Should be called 'Music for falling asleep'. Pros: Good to fall asleep to. Cons: fell asleep.
2-3
While interesting that this was the first album to be marked as ambient music, there really wasn't anything special about it for me. Soothing and peaceful but unimpressive
I did like the ambient feel with a lot of piano throughout rather than the synth sound. But I would’t say this is a “must-listen”.
I love your work Brian, definitely a stand out producer, but I didn't groove with this project like I thought I would've. Listened to it driving in the car and it just didn't hold my attention which is a shame because I could listen to Side B of David Bowie's 'Low' all day long. Needs another listen, but as of now I'm not super into it. 2.5/5
Too soft
I bought this album many years ago thinking if I listened to Eno being ambient it would somehow make me edgy or at least I'd be able to sound like a bit of a muso snob. The whole point of this is that it challenges what we consider to be "an album" or the points where music/sound/art collide. Maybe I actually need to listen to this in an airport rather than sat at my dining table on a monday morning working from home. Or maybe I just don't really like ambient music.
Not unpleasant. But I don't see the point in listening to something that only makes me think of being on a moving walkway getting me from one set of airport gates to another.
Nice background album, but not something I would frequent. Music for a specific mood
I thought about giving this one star because I don't think this deserves to be on the list and I was constantly wanting to listen to other things, but I also considered giving it three because the fact that it's boring is the point. So I settled on two. Still don't think it should be on the list though.
Contemporary classical, played on the studio. More interesting historically than aesthetically. Other Eno and other ambient are both better. Neat movements though.
Música ambiental. Sin nada especial que aportar. No me ha dicho nada especial. Discos de este tipo hay bastantes
This is just not something I was in the mood for. I understand that this inspired a mood or tone for music and film scoring, but I rarely am in the place where I can or would want to listen to a film score. It's all fine. Not difficult to listen to but also not much more than background.
Piano
Good music for putting the baby to sleep
I mean, it's fine for what it is, but hard to understand how this is a "must hear."
Eric Satie this isn't.
Google tells me this album was innovative for its time. Fine as background music, but pretty boring.
It's ambient music. There's really not much to say; it states it right there in the title. Not much to like or dislike about this album. Favorite track: 1/1
Aptly titled. I'm sure there's a time and a place but it certainly won't be on high rotation here.
Hahaha jaa. Magnifikt!!!!!!!
Needs a particular mood to listen to this one.
Peaceful. Serene. I like the first track and I could listen to it with my eyes closed while getting a massage. The last three tracks are meh.
Relaxing. Won’t listen to it again but it was calming. 2/2 is cool
Well, title says it all.
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: None Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: I get why ambient music exists. I might even go so far as to say I'm glad ambient music exists. But I couldn't tell you for the life of me what makes good ambient music and what makes bad ambient music. A bad ambient song to me is either silence or a musical song. So this middle ground between the two is very hard for me to judge.
I love this stuff in film scores alongside its context but it has to be pretty good to grab me enough to interest me to listen to as an album and this wasn't it.
It's not awful but bloody hell it's boring to actually hear in one sitting
Liian latteata jopa taustamusiikiksi.
Ei oikein lähteny Brianilla.
Harrasta tunnelmaa.
i thought this would be good as background music but I actually found it rather grating and repetitive. 4/10
If we were rating purely ambient albums I think this would probably be a pretty good one. However, I spent most of the runtime wishing I was listening to almost anything else. The sound itself wasn’t unpleasant so it lands somewhere around a 4.
Chill, but not really for me.
I really like that first track! After that, it all just made me sleeeeeepy. Love the concept of writing an album to try and improve the crappy canned music at airports though, and can definitely hear the influence that first track had on a whole lot of film scores.
Alright is jut a bit sad nothing special
It's good airport music but I'm too small brain for this shit.
4/14 Meditative, haunting, could play in an airport on a rainy day perhaps. Standout Track: 1/2
i wouldnt play this in an airport maybe stranger things or something
1 - TERRIBLE
This is better suited to be a movie soundtrack than an album you sit down to listen to on purpose. The best parts for me were when it faded into the background of my day and I forgot it was on. Perhaps I’d feel differently if I were an airport.
Ei
Inoffensive and pleasant but ultimately pointless, unfinishable, and worsened by the fact it should have been accompanied by a massage but wasn’t.
This would be boring, even in an airport.
Insanely boring. Not sure I’d play this in the airport but I’d play it on the plane to get me some sleep
What are we doing here? Seriously. Brian Eno writing music to not listen to shouldn't be on the list. The list is 1001 albums to listen to before you die. Not 1 album to listen to while you die.
😳
I’m speechless
I honestly don't know what to think, this probably is a great album but i listened to it when i was feeling upbeat. Maybe this is one of those albums that can't be enjoyed in other moods and is created for a very specific situation, which it very much seems like, i usually don't appreciate albums i can't find complex emotions to create the listening experience for diverse contexts. Glad to see people enjoyed it, sucks that i didn't, moving on
1/10 I'm so serious why is this on the list
This is the album that makes me think this whole list is one lomg troll project. How can an album, whose sole purpose is to be used as background noise intended to be ignored and forgotten, be something i have to listen to before i die? The music is nice for the first couple minutes, its well orchestrated, its pleasant. But the firstbtrack itself is 17 minutes long and if you haven't successfully turned your brain off as intended by the 4th minute, you start to doubt your sanity.
FTL: Well… that was fucking boring. Took me an eternity to get through. Checks every box for music to focus to, so will definitely recycle it for that. But imo for pure listening purposes, ondraaglijk. Good album title however so 1 star for that.
It deliberately was not interesting or enjoyable.
Cool?
If I'm understanding this correctly, this album is the seminal ambient music album. Not really sure that makes it something I need to hear before I die, especially since it's literally meant to be heard while being ignored. Focusing on it/giving it a critical listen seems to defeat the point. I could see playing it for meditation or as a work soundtrack. It's good to have on to fill background space, and that's about it. That doesn't warrant a high rating from me, even if it fills that niche well. Overall: .5/5
boring
"Relaxing", "boring"??! This album makes me feel like I'm being hunted for sport. Genuinely upset.
Nope
I don't know how to rate this. Do I enjoy it? No. Did it set out what it wanted to do? I guess? It's a bit like the Pontiac Aztek- It is extremely successful at doing what it set out to do, but no one wants it to do that.
Tried to check my flight a couple of times just to realize i'm still home
Title is very accurate. I get it, I just hate it. Stressed me out way more than ambient music probably should.
The title is already tedious. Let me reiterate what absolute pompous douchebags music critics are, a bunch of assholes sniffing each other's farts. This has no place in this list. 30 million people have listened to the first two tracks. I have to assume half of them were involved with this dumbass book and the other half had this in a Spotify "Ambient Music to Sleep To" playlist. I still might like it more than anything he did with Roxy Music. Four songs, 48 minutes, that is an awful ratio. This would be a fine soundtrack to a movie about an airport. And I mean literally about an airport, just a long, slow tracking shot that works it's way from like a drinking fountain inside a terminal to pan out to the show the entire airport facility over 17 minutes. And it closes with a full minute of silence. There's nothing awful about the first song, it just has no place on this list. And now nine minutes of vocals. This is the soundtrack to a movie about lonliness. I can confidently say I will never listen to another Brian Eno solo album after I'm done with this list. This is Tubular Bells all over again. It started as an art project! This isn't even intended to be played like this. But, it did define the ambient genre, so let's put it on this list! All the songs are going to end with an extended period of silence...because they're an art project, not an album.
If this wasn't by Brian Eno, it wouldn't have been included. So, taking the name off the cover, what we have here is elevator music. And not particularly good elevator music. There was an album from Nitin Sawhney in here that was actually good, creative grocery store music. I gave it a 2*. Ambient 1 is neither good nor creative. Sigh. I'm trying to be stingier with my 1* ratings than 5* ratings, but absolutely no one needs to hear this before they die.
I have nothing against this type of music; I simply agree with many others—why this is on the list is a mystery to me! Background music, by definition, is the type of music that stays, well, in the background! There's no need to bring it to the forefront :-D
Xd
Why would this album be on a list of music I need to listen to? It was useless elevator music!
Extraordinarily dull
1,3/5
ladron
dude why... like its cool for what it is, but on a list of "best albums" why is this on here...
Hmmm…no thanks.
ambient, minimalistisch, 1978 -> 1
I didnt get a chance to listen
Just like the title says.
what kind of airport this guy is going? Why do I have to listen this before I die? Today´s bird: A pidgeon, the dirty kind, and maybe dead
Not as bad as I was expecting as it got me locked in at work, but very boring
Duller than the dullest of dishwater
this most be the kind of music they put in hell on a loop and i reaaaaally dislike it for it
Omg - couldn’t listen to much of this - not too uplifting.,,.
Great music to fall asleep to.
How did the avante garde end up here in the late 70's? I mean I understand how, but it really fucked any sort of art music forever because of this garbage genre, because where do you go from here?
This was my first real exposure to Brian Eno. This was just a little too AMBIENt for me....
Is this even an album?
well... it lives up to its name in a sense. It felt more like I was in a yoga studio than an airport entire time. And I am very unsure why it made it onto this playlist
Why
It’s cool that this album pretty much launched the ambient music genre. But, I just don’t like ambient music. Reminds me of Ross Geller with his keyboard.
So dumb.
Not my type of music
Pointless
Does what it says on the tin. Unnecessary inclusion in a list of great albums.
I should have just sat in silence
Intentionally made as background music. Boring by design is still boring
12/16/25: this was an odd suggestion for a "must-listen" list. Perhaps it was innovative for its time. 2/10
I struggle to think how any kind of ambient music at all can be considered quintessential listening in the history of music. It's in the name: ambient music is meant to be unspectacular, uninspiring, and unnotable. And that's what this album is as a listening exercise. It feels like a tremendous waste of time.
Groundbreaking and all that but not worth listening to. There are some ambient albums that rise above being background noise, and this isn’t one of them.
If I had put on odd shoes, was running late for an interview, was given the wrong coffee order and then spilled that coffee on my new shirt, forgotten my phone, got stuck in a lift and that lift was in the North Tower, the worst part of my day would still be that this album was playing in the lift and would be the last album I would ever hear.
Yea not a great start to this challenge. Not interested at all in the ramblings of a soundscape meant for nature pics or literally an airport. It could be interesting if I were in a museum. While it is not bad, it is not something I would listen to again.
wtf. Gabe?
im not listening to this garbage
Elevator music, on hold music. What we used to call Musac. This one is too draggy and boring for my taste.
Can there be no more Brian Eno please. I literally can not tell you a song I liked because I don't know when songs started and ended. Each song went on for like 8 minutes too long...ugh. There is good stuff and then it just keeps going.
This isn't an album that's even meant to be listened to. It's like being on hold for 48 minutes. I'm so sick of the Brian Eno bullshit in this list. 1
Very surprised to see this here. Some might say it’s a work of art. I’d say it’s boring as hell. 0/5
Listened to it in the beginning of the day which was a poor decision. Not great to hype you up for the day but I finished it at bed time and was soothing. Definitely will never listen to it again tho
Respect Brian Eno a lot but this is really boring
Beamtenmusik! Nur das Atmen bitte nicht vergessen! Meine Güte, das Gedudel nervt!
This album should probably be on the list since it started the ambient music craze per wikipedia. But I would rather listen to anything else than what this was. I find it hard to believe people willingly seek this album out.
So much like too many airports.
This is a soundscape. Its fine for what it is, but unless you’re meditating, trying to cure insomnia, or making an indie film and need some ethereal background effect, there’s no reason to listen to one minute of this album.
Boring
Why the hell is an album with this title even on this list? Do we really need the top 1001 albums to listen to in an airport before we die? The worst is this title isn't ironic--it's really how it sounds. And this is the third bloody Eno album I've had to slog through on this list. There are more albums on this list by Eno than there are of Bob Marley or Led Zeppelin. There are more Eno albums than Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana and Alice in Chains combined. So Eno is more important to listen to before I die than the entire genre of grunge? Jesus Dimery, get your head out of your ass. Anyway, this is fine enough as meditation music due to its sometimes hypnotic sound but really has not place on this list. Solid 1/5.
argghh
Música de ascensor
This was....zzzzzzz... an incredibly.....zzzz...boring.....zzzzzzzzzzz...album! While the music is pretty it never really goes anywhere. If that's Eno's critique of muzak, than it's spot on. I've heard elevator music that's better this, it's faint praise, but it's praise. My God, he made 3 other albums like this. At least, it'll put you to sleep. I need a nap.
I suppose it's musically fine. But snooze fest
Ambient music shouldn’t be on this list. This music is for sleeping
Alright if you are in to that type of music
Snoozefest!
Ain't no way. 1.
This was pathetic.
Unlistenable
Rubbish
I was hoping to enjoy this because I do listen to ambient music fairly often, but this did nothing for me. At times it felt like having a relaxing massage while my sleep paralysis demon sat on my chest.
If I was an airport I'd give it 5 stars
No…
1. 1/1 - 2 This sounds like a song that got rejected entry into the final release of the game Mini Metro. It's just ambient sound, a piano with no direction. Actually critiquing the music unlike Brian Edo's wishes: the piano builds up into some notes that are too loud and the music's volume is very unbalanced on the track, which can make it painful to listen to if you're not careful enough with the volume on in your headsets. On top of this, it goes on for far far too long. 2. 2/1 - 0 Mind numbingly boring music. Like monk chanting but without any character, change in tone, change in pitch, or change in octave. 3. 1/2 - 1 If you combined the first two tracks you'd get this song. That's literally all it is. 4. 2/2 - 2 Loud and obnoxiously droned out brass instruments with no clear direction or purpose. They just wane on and on for nine minutes. Average Rating: 1.25 Adjusted to a 5-Point Scale: 0.63 Rounded Up: 1 Star
oh so boring. But good effort. It was worth trying.
So borinng !! Is next album be ambient music for lifts ??
We already got our dose of elevator music from Eno, so why put us through this again? That ambient music wasn’t really made to be listened to, but to be played in the background while doing something else. With that in mind, I’m not sure why this album deserves a spot in the “1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die” list. Yes, it’s the first album that defined ambient, but it’s probably only here for that reason because nobody actually bought it except maybe some SPAs. After the first album of medieval junkie folk we just had, I’m starting to suspect this list is an excuse to include every “first” in music history. In short, things aren’t looking good.
Even in the appropriate setting, this isn't my preferred background music. It's incredibly slow, soft, and boring. The only use I can think of would be to help put my child to sleep.
That’s… different. Jarring in parts. Far far too long.
ik zat niet op een luchthaven...
I’ve listened to over 500 albums from this list so far and this has got to be one of the most boring, uninspired album yet. Music for doctor’s offices and elevators.
Well... He didn't lie about the album cover that's for sure. 2/10
I swear I listened to it.
Boring
01) 1/1 - 5,5 02) 2/1 - 4,0 03) 1/2 - 4,0 04) 2/2 - 4,0 TOTAL: 4,38 (44/100) Current ranking: 534/554 This reminds me more like you are waiting for a live broadcast to start and some music plays while the minutes and seconds are counting down on the screen... And you are getting more and more nervous because it takes too long to start... What are they waiting for, it should have started twenty minutes ago!?
I have come back to this a dozen times since 1985, trying to like it. Still no luck.
I know I've heard it before...but I can see why I'd forgotten it. Wow that was boring.
This instantly turned into back ground.
I've tried to listen to this before, so I knew there was no point. Listened to yesterday's album Talking Heads 77 again instead.
Instead of trying to make better ambient movement for airports, why not just make good music?
If I could foot how to play this at 3x speed it might not move been too bad
Exceptionally dull. Not for me.
I just don't understand why someone would do this
It is trying to create meaning and "art" through ambience, but all I hear is a bunch of pretentious repetitive sounds. To each his own, but even this music snob thinks this is awful .5/5 stars
Unbearably boring
Ambient music should not be on this list. It should be on the 1001 Albums You Must Half-Listen to While You Die.
Wow. Why would you create something so deliberately bland and pointless? What a weird thing to do.
Not an unpleasant listen, but a completely unnecessary listen
I’ll keep this in mind for when I buy an airport
There wasn't a change between songs. There didn't seem to be much of a change between notes. I'd be annoyed if this was the background music in an airport.
Ah, that’s a no for me dude.
zzzzzz....snooze fest
Boring
I found myself forgetting there was even music playing if this is truly considered music. I really wish there was anything interesting going on with this.
Tried to listen to but …
Not for me.
This might've been the most boring thing I've ever heard.
Extraordinarily boring
I've had 2 previous Brian Eno albums on this list, and both were utter horse-shit. I wasn't expecting much from this, and it duly obliged. In fairness it was nowhere near the banality of one of the previous Eno albums, and was on a par with the other one. I get that it was the ambient music ground-breaker, but any old prick with a keyboard could have made this album by just striking one or two keys periodically. I was a given a voucher for a massage last year and this music could have been what they played during the massage, it sent me to sleep then and it did the same now.
This is too ambient for me. After discussions with the wiser ones I understood the meaning of this album in this list. But still. Not my thing.
get hacked bro
bad
Seriously? This is indistinguishable from any of the tracks on YouTube/Spotify with titles like "BEST DEEP SLEEP MUSIC LOFI CHILL RELAX SLOW BRAINWAVE CALM". Track 1: hitting piano keys in a repetitive motif with ambient droning in the background. Track 2: aaaaaaahhhhhhh with ambient droning in the background. Track 3: piano + aaaaahhhhh. Track 4: synth instead of piano.
This is not music its just sound! Has nothing to commend it
Tedious. Music to sleep to. Maybe airports enjoy this sort of music?
...not for me I guess.
Very generic sounding ambient instrumentals. One song blended into another.
People actually spend money on this album?
I dont understand this at all. I would give this the lowest score possbile if there was something below a 1.
Skipped through most of this. I get that it is the first of its kind in the genre, but it was made as a background, not to be listened to like the 1000 other albums on this list. This is fine as ambient music but I've never been in an airport and thought "oh cool I know/love this song, glad I know it's a Brian Eno original!". It's supposed to go unnoticed. It was peaceful I guess.
That was very, very boring! I understand the concept of an ambient sound album, but the atmosphere created in these tracks is as enthusiastic as a half-hour recording of just my farts.
Boring boring boring
