What's Going On
Marvin GayeAbsolute classic from start to finish - such a beautiful unique sound
Absolute classic from start to finish - such a beautiful unique sound
I love finding hidden 2000s gems like this one
Longer Radiohead Album. I really like most of it, but it has some moments which are harder to listen to than the majority of their discography.
Personally, I'm not a Swifty. But this album is a bonafide classic.
A classic with the occasional mediocre song
Hard to say how much I liked it. Graveyard train was such a slog in such a short album, but penthouse pauper was great.
Surprisingly, I liked it quite a bit despite not being a huge country fan - overall pretty solid.
Some pleasant parts in the first song but not very easy to listen to.
Great album the whole way through - loved 2 weeks
A classic. I’m prejudiced against led zepplin as a whole but still loved the songs on this album. Ill come back to a few of them for sure.
Had a few redeeming songs, so I wouldn’t mind listening to parts of it again, but overall pretty bad. I think I just do not like British accents and this form of a more spoken “rap”. Beats were not as bad though
Loved the ideas on this album and they were executed beautifully- some notable highs and lows for me though - especially in the latter half of the album.
Low three for me. Thought the first song was great but it got fairly experimental in some places. Very listenable but a little harder to thoroughly enjoy.
A great hip hop record. Never knew Q-tip had it in him. I loved “Move” as it felt like the best version of what he was trying to get at throughout the album.
Some great songs and some very forgettable ones like Love song and whatever the last song was. I loved the 80s pop sound - like a Michael Jackson. Low 4 for me.
Love this album. Not my favorite from the Beatles, but that’s not saying much
This was a hard one to rate because of how uptempo and over the place it was. I loved Santiago and America the best, but there were plenty of replay able songs. The combination of rap and Spanish pop(?) was a novel idea to me, and I can’t say that it disappointed.
Unique sound with the keyboard but some of the songs (Alabama song) are simply not great. Glad I listened to it but not a game changer.
Songs were great, but blended together because they were based on stories, which I had a hard time picking up the first listen. Still a wonderful album with great guitar and harmonica
Some songs that I really did not like, but some blew me away. Mr. Bright side is a pop classic of course, but it works so well with their style. I really liked on top.
I loved the latter half of the album, but the first four songs were very mediocre to me. Sounds like something that I might listen to after a while has passed. The Message is solid though.
So great! Absolutely loved the sound and I have nearly no complaints, especially with how cohesive it feels as an album.
Some great songs and a lot of mediocre ones. They knew which were the best and gave them remixes, though, which I have to appreciate.
I generally love jazz, but the combination of instruments did not work well for me. Strings, accordion, and vibraphone? Sounds like they were trying to prove a point that it could be done. On top of this, they repeated the same phrases many times, which worked well occasionally. I did like some songs, though, like little Italy and Laura’s Dream. Border btwn two and three star.
High three to low four for me. The rock style seemed so classic to me for many of the songs - so much so that it was almost like listening to comfort music in the same way that people would eat comfort food. Despite this, there were definitely a few songs on here that I did not particularly like (like Sunday Sunday) and some of the rest started to blend together. Overall pretty solid.
Quintessential 80s - I kinda liked it. More than my dad I think. Not something I’ll come back too though.
This is what I imagine smell the glove would sound like - really not my thing.
I thought that this album was really great. I had only known Elvis Costello from Alison before this album, and I was pleasantly surprised. Some of the production seemed strange, but it seemed to work in a lot of the songs with the melodies.
Didn’t blow me away but didn’t really dislike it either
Beats were pretty classic, but the lyrics really kept me from getting into it… Probably not gonna listen again.
Great beats like most early hip hop, but the length made them blend together. Comparing it with the last album, the grooves were overall slightly worse but I couldn’t really hear the lyrics so they didn’t put me off
Seems to me like a very standard rock live performance. I didn’t know that live albums were being used, which surprised me. I enjoyed listening but it’ll have to be a high three because it seemed pretty standard.
Yet another 80s album
Wonderful album
Despite never listening to Springsteen in depth, I really liked this album. It was consistent all the way through. Even though nothing blew me away, I would definitely listen again.
A little worse than the wall But the wall is pretty good I just wish this album was a bit shorter
Absolute stunner of an album!
A beautiful album - definitely will be coming back to. It got repetitive at some points, but it is so calm that it didn’t really matter I hate to give low fives, but this album definitely deserves the five
It seemed average at first, then the last three songs got very experimental and did not sound too pleasant to say the least. At least the beginning was ok
I was not excited to listen to more specials after listening to the specials by the specials earlier this year, and while there was still not much special about this album, It was significantly more digestible than the other.
I love jump
Absolute classic from start to finish - such a beautiful unique sound
Some parts I liked, and some that were very very 80’s that I very much did not like.
I liked how interesting it was, but that’s about all I have good to say about this album.
Unique sounds on this album - don’t think I particularly enjoyed it though
I thought that the music was great but the lyrics were not my thing. I hate to bed too heavy on the lyrics though as I loved to listen
I don’t know. It all sounds like the dark side of you’ve got a friend in me.
A little too much smooth and melodic slow songs, but I really like them in small doses
I’m not a big metal guy, but I was jammin
A lot of the time I think that Hendrix’s guitar is sloppy, but there were a lot of good songs on here
I really liked it. I was a little suprised, because I thought the vocals would put me off like they had before, but they really didn’t.
High four from me, a truly electric album that just sounds really great.
Really just not my thing
I actually really liked this one. Photograph is fantastic and the whole things got a lotta energy.
I really loved this album - almost a five four me. Before, I had only heard about the weight, but I learned that there are really so many more good songs on the album.
Very high highs and very low lows Also just too long
I love this album so much, and I don’t really know why. It is definitely very authentic.
I wish every song could be as good as Under the Bridge
Couldn’t be as good as songs in the key of life but it still is a classic. I was gonna go high four, but the last three songs brought it back for me.
I generally like this style of old hip-hop, but this album didn’t really do it for me.
Pretty normal album but I liked it - high 3
I liked it much more than I thought I would.
Super high four star, I had no clue Chicago was this good. Pleasantly surprised
Not my thing
Unique sound. I really liked certain parts, but others were a bit much for me
Low 4
Great pop album
Solid hip hop record. Didn’t expect Kanye to show up but there he is. I liked faithful
Pretty bluesy, I liked it.
Classic hip hop
Not my thing, but I really appreciated it
Classy
It has its niche uses, like background music for working, but not much outside of that
I liked the idea, but I wished it was more musically flushed out throughout the album
Not my kind of pop
Pretty good rock live album. Btwn four and three for me
I listened to this album last week for the first time all the way through before it even came up on here. I absolutely loved it. I’ve had sing about me I’m dying of thirst on repeat since then. So good, lots of hits, still cohesive. Better than TPAB :)
Not a huge edm enjoyer by itself, but I can appreciate it.
Not bad at all, I got hooked for most of the time, but it would definitely drone on at times.
So long
An absolute classic
Not bad at all
Loved jet and band on the run, fantastic album, very high four
I love the sound on this album. It really represents pop in a unique way.
Enjoyed what they were getting at, but there were a lot of duds. High 3
I liked it better than the last echo and the bunnymen album, but not enough to get a four, just a high 3
It just sounds classic
I love finding hidden 2000s gems like this one
A pretty good weekend
I should have given the first a five star, but this one wasn’t as good as the first - I’d say right on the border. Maybe I will regret this one too?
Its like a podcast with a little flow
I like reggae
Had its ups and downs but very nice overall
I loved many of the songs, but there were a few that brought it down - overall definitely enjoyable
It had its moments
Classic - one of my favorites ever
Nas is the goat Ye carried
Consistent 4
80s could be a two
I really like this album. Even one of Radioheads worst is ingenious, but I can’t give it a five because some songs are just hard to listen to
Pretty Great sound with some bangers
A very nice low four, some very good songs on here and some less interesting
Classic
Phenomenal 90s rock
Longer Radiohead Album. I really like most of it, but it has some moments which are harder to listen to than the majority of their discography.
Four simply for the excellent use of harmonica
Personally, I'm not a Swifty. But this album is a bonafide classic.
Jazz Classic - Very upbeat
Has some bangers but drops off toward the end
Low five - a great listen
I'm certainly not an 80s fan. This album just is not appealing to me at all.
Not exactly my style, but it was executed fairly well. Low 3
Great album
Not really my thing, but produced fairly well
Really great album. A little short - I was surprised when it was over - but generally a very nice sound. America is a phenomenal song. High 4
Surprised that White Denim is a solid band, but I thought that this was like a classic indie sound.
I think that Bowie is overrated, and I never really liked the title track to begin with. Listening to this is not really doing much to change my mind. It might be a classic, but I'm not really moved. Border of two and three
Very low three, not a bad listen
Never been much a metal fan - the lyrics bring it down too
Hard to rate this one-so much sounds interesting and experimental in a good way. Its super ahead of its time. Some stuff just sounds bad though. Gotta be a shaky four
Hip Hop classic. Sometimes Ill listen and not like it as much, but this time I appreciated it way more.
One of the greatest albums I’ve ever heard.
Not a huge prince fan and it was a little too long but still not bad
A little long, but quite the jammer
This is one of my all time favorites
Classic hip-hop
At first I was not too excited, but it certainly exceeded my expectations. Selfish was exceptional
I really liked it, but I'm not sure it's on the same level as some of his other stuff. A very high four
I could only listen to one song on Spotify and it was not too great
Un Clásico
I know its a classic grunge album, but maybe I just don’t like grunge very much. Still redeemable though.
I liked a lot of it, but there was some that I could do without
Liked it - it seems like approachable metal
Coldplay Classic - sounds better than I would have thought
Some dope foreign albums on this list
I thought that this album wouldn't be so good even though I knew it was highly rated. Quite suprised - I think that Epitaph is super good, but Moonchild almost made me drop it a star. Low 5
Very interesting sound throughout but pretty long
Like a teaser trailer for Getz/Gilberto
Exceptionally average and inoffensive
Nice upbeat pop record
Really interesting
Surprisingly nice to listen to - amazing piano and string arrangements
Another Great Foreign album. A pleasure to listen to.
Super interesting sound for the 2000s
I loved the samples on this more than I thought, which is saying something.
Nice upbeat Jazz, really fun to listen to
I really liked this album - much more than I thought I would. Very interesting sound. The guitar tone was a little rough, but still a low 5
I am a big soul fan, and this is a classic. It feels a little aged still though, but it doesn't knock it too much. Respect is such a good song.
Rock classic
Good, but not very inspiring. A high 2
Not great :(
I havent listened to much Fleetwood Mac, but this album has given me much more motivation to do so. Between four and five.
Im a big Nick Drake fan, and this album is pretty great from him.
Very interesting 90s Indie - I really liked it, but it got a bit repetitive toward the end, especially because it is such a long album.
Fantastic. I am a Nina Simone fan for sure. I had only ever heard Jeff Buckley's version of Lilac Wine, so it was sweet to hear this version. Very high four.
Sounds like a perverted version of DJ Shadow
Top tier Nick Drake
One of the greatest of all time - I wish I could play like this.
Its a Beatles album, so its a classic. I don't know if I would give it the same praise if it was a random 60s band, but there are many genuinely great songs on here. Maybe the worst Beatles album though?
Its like budget Coldplay in a way
Not sure I’m the target audience
I didn’t think I would be a Metallica fan and I’m not
His voice is annoying but there were plenty of nice moments
I’m sure if I was there it’d be electric
Pretty good, but the drums are so corny
Love it but his piano style is very wistful lots of the time and lacks some purpose.
Really nice
Super interesting album - I loved the style and the overall sound, but I dont think there were enough compelling songs to capitalize off of it
Top tier Nick Drake - about what you would expect with some above and beyond songs on there as well
Classic
Unbelievably creative, quite suprised at how much I liked it and the risks that they took
Freedom is really great, and the rest of the songs are okay enough to earn a three. There is a lot of musicianship here but its not very exciting
Not an eminem fan
Not a Prince fan, could have probably been a four.
Wonderful and meaningful - I’m a huge fan
Classy Steely Dan - but still not too refined
Exceptional album - sounds a lot like bedroom recordings of thom yorke (which I love). I liked it much more than I thought I would
Pretty solid
Just so long and boring - I imagine it would be great if I was high the whole time
Don't really know how to think about this one. Not the biggest fan though - the drum machine comes across strongly and its a little hard to look past. Also nothing was too exciting.
I really liked it musically, although I'm a bigger fan of Funeral because of this album's in-the-face anti-Christian message. Music was classic 2000s indie sound though, which I love.
Smooth, but the title track carries a little
just about average
I had this album recommended to me over the summer, and now that I’ve listened to it, its just alright. I was hoping there would be a little more, but … I just didn’t catch it I guess. Maybe I’ll relisten in a little to see if I didn’t catch anything
Very interesting - I had never heard Santana before. Although maybe not something I will listen to a lot in the future, I did enjoy it
My favorite album from probably my favorite band - incredible songs and a overall sound. Reckoner is one of my favorite songs ever
One of the greatest jazz albums ever. Its got TAKE FIVE on it! So good
I really like papa was a rolling stone but that’s really it
It was certainly a journey - an incredibly unique one. All in all I think the good balances out with the fact that I’ve never really heard much like it
Couldnt really get into it, and I forgot it relatively quickly. Maybe I’m being a little harsh though
Really great compositions, but im not much of a big band jazz guy. Still sounded great
I love the blues. It gets a little repetitive though but its still a great listen.
So great
Actually liked this a lot :)
It felt like it was unfinished. Still sounded nice, but almost empty
Just alright
Pretty standard 90s rock - I liked it
I liked it a lot, but it wasn't the type of jazz I'm used to - it seemed less spontaneous than others, and some tracks exaggerated this in a way I wasn't too fond of.
Nice and classic
Oh boy - its such a unique soundscape that is a pleasure to listen to for 50 minutes
Incredible - its just like another steely dan album
