Popular Reviews

Leftism by Leftfield

how funny, just the other day i was saying, you know what this 1001 list needs more of? 90s british electronica thats 2 hours long

The Band by The Band

this would either be my least favourite 3/5 or my favourite 2/5

really bad but the novelty gives me something to laugh at at least. your dictionary may be the worst song on any of these albums so far.

Rid Of Me by PJ Harvey

I don't understand the poor mixing comments. She's certainly mixed low on many of the songs, but I can't see how it isn't intentional. I think the low mixing being intentional comes off clearest on 'Hook'

Coles Corner by Richard Hawley

i dont rate many albums without listening to every song, but trust me, listen to track 1 and youll have it from there

Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
Apr 18 2025

weak, Immigrant song rules, nothing else stod out at all.

On The Beach by Neil Young
Apr 19 2025

was a 4, had to change to a 5, easily my favourite album generated after a month

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra
Apr 22 2025

this sucks and its too long and it sucks

Harvest by Neil Young
Apr 23 2025

Love it probably slightly below on the beach

Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
Apr 24 2025

There's nothing to see here. I'd be less annoyed if it weren't for the annoying lyrics as well. Too much name dropping, too many stilted, poorly flowing verses. "It stinks!" - Jon Lovitz, 1994

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Apr 26 2025

2 long. I wanted to give it a 3 because I like Walk of Life until I was told it would be better as a Springsteen song and I can't agree more. Money for nothing is alright, just a pretty boring album.

Connected by Stereo MC's
Apr 27 2025

i think you have to be at minimum 35 to like this

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Apr 29 2025

its alright, solid two and a half

The Score by Fugees
May 01 2025

I listened to this a lot when I was younger and figured it'd be a 3 before listening. The album is on the longer side compared to contemporaries, but being ~1 hour long isn't necessarily a detriment. As long as it is varied and consistent it should be good, but I don't think it quite achieves that, not like Enter The Wu-Tang or Black On Both Sides. I think it is worth a 4 though; there are some great beats on the first half of the album, second half slows down a little, but I think it flows well enough that its okay. The singles, though, are fantastic, so I think it needs to be better than a 3.

Rid Of Me by PJ Harvey
Jun 02 2025

I don't understand the poor mixing comments. She's certainly mixed low on many of the songs, but I can't see how it isn't intentional. I think the low mixing being intentional comes off clearest on 'Hook'

The Bends by Radiohead
Jun 03 2025

maybe 3 good songs, the rest were complete snoozers

Jack Takes the Floor by Ramblin' Jack Elliott
Jun 05 2025

I'm not unfamiliar with music from this era, this is just uniquely annoying. I can't listen to Grey Goose with a straight face

Take Me Apart by Kelela
Jun 06 2025

Too one-note to be almost an hour

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Jun 07 2025

prohibitively boring

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
Jun 10 2025

I was really not enjoying it, but the last two songs brought me back around a bit. Probably my least favourite 3/5

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Jun 13 2025

good, but the songs blend together a bit

Different Class by Pulp
Jun 14 2025

if i could give this a 0 it would still be too generous. i hate this album so much. stop whispering you loser, this is just brit pop maroon 5. except at least maroon 5 doesn't put on airs. oh yeah we're so smart we dont need guns to change the world we'll use our minds isn't that cool anyways let me see your tits

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
Jun 16 2025

i had something to say about the album but that was 1h40 of music ago. i really hate his voice. 1979 is a good song though

Butterfly by Mariah Carey
Jun 20 2025

i dont really have any strong feelings one way or the other. what i do know is that ill never listen to this again. it can sit with all the other 2/5 albums that i dont hate but dont care about

With The Beatles by Beatles
Jun 21 2025

quite liked this one, wish it wasn't in stereo though. official beatles album rankings so far: 1. with the beatles 2. rubber soul

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jun 22 2025

not bad, not exactly compelling though. right on the edge of 2/3 some would call that 2.5

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Jun 23 2025

I don't like his voice. If these were sung by someone else it'd be pretty good

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Jun 26 2025

I love this album, have since the first listen. Going through this list has just reinforced how amazing a work it is. I think that it can be easy to fence in The Smiths (especially Morrissey) as whingy, goth, opposite-of-life-affirming, etc., but that requires a level of cynicism utterly absent from this album. It is a lyrical triumph, completely pithy, sarcastic; totally, perfectly witty. After listening to ~70 albums on this list I've come to adore the restraint shown in the writing, Morrissey without fail, nails the message in the fewest words possible (some girls really are just bigger than others). All this without mentioning how on point the instrumentals and production remains from the first second to last wail. I've listened to, maybe, a million albums in my life and I'm still amazed at how tight every melody remains. Like the writing, they literally never get old. 100/5 Frankly Mr. Shankly is still my fav on this album. (One last note, how refreshing is a 37min album from the list? I think there are more albums >75 mins than <45 mins so far)

21 by Adele
Jun 28 2025

yep thats definitely music

Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jun 30 2025

there's so much depth to this album, so many sounds and instruments at the same time. I could listen to this over and over. I would usually find some of the songs saccharine, don't know if its the nostalgia, but I have no problems, great album

Jul 01 2025

truly so boring. bored to tears. then a song comes on that ive heard before and im tired and bored. 1 or 2 i dont care.

Stripped by Christina Aguilera
Jul 03 2025
Live At Leeds by The Who
Jul 04 2025

I enjoyed it, but I don't get why it is on the list.

Leftism by Leftfield
Jul 06 2025

how funny, just the other day i was saying, you know what this 1001 list needs more of? 90s british electronica thats 2 hours long

Jul 07 2025

some complete stinkers on this album. it shouldnt be on the list. theres no reason this and stankonia are here over aquemini and atliens, absolutely ridiculous. maybe theres a reason people dont put out 2h15, 40 track albums all the time, there is so much fat to cut off this album. if this was a normal single album, there could be some gold here. im gonna go listen to a 6/5 album; aquemini

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Jul 08 2025

Doesn't do anything for me, don't think I'll listen again

Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf
Jul 10 2025

probably the funniest album so far

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Jul 12 2025

Strongest 3 without a doubt

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
Jul 15 2025

if i'm being honest i probably won't listen to it again which means i'd usually give it a 2, but i think that undersells it

Fishscale by Ghostface Killah
Jul 17 2025

i really want to like this. the j dilla/mf doom songs are fantastic, but there is just too much inbetween to justify coming back regularly.

The White Album by Beatles
Jul 19 2025

way too long, has next to nothing going for it. bleh. beatles album rankings so far: 1. with the beatles 2. rubber soul 3. white album

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Jul 20 2025

just like iii it doesnt do anything for me

Lam Toro by Baaba Maal
Jul 21 2025

Run-D.M.C. by Run-D.M.C.
Jul 28 2025

I don't don't like it

Walking Wounded by Everything But The Girl
Jul 30 2025

Conjures intense memories of early 2000s weekend afternoons when mum was doing chores and had the 80kg CRT tv blasting the music channel

OK by Talvin Singh
Jul 31 2025
Abraxas by Santana
Aug 09 2025

theres so much music from this era that i know so entirely despite never having conciously decided to listen to. most of it is much worse than this album, i dont know why santana isnt in that group of artists. whole album was a little long, otherwise great

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Aug 10 2025

i dont think he knows how to play the harmonica

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Aug 11 2025

i didnt hear the end or the start of any songs

The Sun Rises In The East by Jeru The Damaja
Aug 13 2025

I resent this album being on the list. It comes from one of the most explosive eras of music and this is the submission. No Aquemini, no Black On Both Sides, no Midnight Marauders, no Moment of Truth, no Things Fall Apart(!!), no Ironman, no ATLiens, no Black Star, no The Infamous(!!!!!!). Instead we get the dustiest, most forgettable rap album of the 90s.

The Doors by The Doors
Aug 15 2025

snooooooze

Station To Station by David Bowie
Aug 17 2025

not really a fan of this guy, but not bad. This is like the 5th bowie in 125 albums, this is the best thus far

Synchronicity by The Police
Aug 18 2025

what happened to calling things easy listening

Happy Trails by Quicksilver Messenger Service
Aug 20 2025

if this list has taught me anything its how much i love wanky double digit minute length noodling

Le Tigre by Le Tigre
Aug 21 2025

when i read the endless screeds posted about the beatles or the rolling stones or led zeppelin i simply dont get it. the music is alright, i dont hate it, but they put out some incredibly samey music. im always surprised to read the really heartfelt and genuine responses to these classic 60s,70s rock albums, but im often left feeling the same way; there are a couple good songs, but the rest is quite one note. so when i see similar criticism levelled at an album like this, i can only realise that we were born in different generations and theres nothing that can change that. this album is fun, varied, energetic, so creative and lively. i will endeavour to spend less time reading negative reviews for albums that i enjoy

Aug 22 2025

really bad but the novelty gives me something to laugh at at least. your dictionary may be the worst song on any of these albums so far.

Debut by Björk
Aug 24 2025

a bit all over the place, nice singles though

Rio by Duran Duran
Aug 26 2025
The Coral by The Coral
Aug 27 2025

not my least favourite, but certainly the least worthy of the list. who cares about this

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Aug 29 2025

Guero by Beck
Sep 07 2025

not bad not bad

Sep 09 2025

another album i liked as a teen but forgot about for some reason. i do know that i never liked i talk to the wind, but its a standout now. lowest 4 thus far

Toys In The Attic by Aerosmith
Sep 10 2025

my face when listening to this album: >:(

Eternally Yours by The Saints
Sep 12 2025

alright. doesn't move me at all though

Rain Dogs by Tom Waits
Sep 14 2025

i dont get it at all. tough listen

1977 by Ash
Sep 15 2025

They really play to their influences. It's alright

Sep 16 2025

probably not the kind of album to just throw on and listen to with headphones. pretty annoying stuff.

Horses by Patti Smith
Sep 17 2025

thoroughly enjoyed this one

Blue by Joni Mitchell
Sep 19 2025

I think this one really speaks for itself. Favourite track is my old man.

White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
Sep 20 2025

i dont get it and i dont care to get it either

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka
Sep 22 2025

its alriiiiight, low 3

Tapestry by Carole King
Sep 23 2025

pretty plain, but undeniably good

i've been good and listened to every album, but i draw the line here. i'mnot listening to a live unofficial bob dylan album. i refuse. instead i'm listening to by far the list's biggest snub, the infmaous by mobb deep. that gets a 5/5. drink away the pain is underrated.

At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
Sep 25 2025

against all my better judgement it gets a 3. im a sucker for instrumentals

GREY Area by Little Simz
Sep 26 2025

leave rapping to the yanks tbh

Sep 29 2025

very low 2

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Sep 30 2025

too many 80s rap albums

Dummy by Portishead
Oct 01 2025

I was looking for reasons to not give it a 4, so I'm being generous

Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Oct 02 2025

I would love to give this less than a three, but I cannot deny it

Rip It Up by Orange Juice
Oct 06 2025

don't remember a single song from this album

Remedy by Basement Jaxx
Oct 08 2025

this sucks man so much

Kings Of The Wild Frontier by Adam & The Ants
Oct 09 2025

really thought i'd hate this going in to it, but something about the instrumentation works

Live! by Fela Kuti
Oct 10 2025

I like it, but there isn't quite enough to latch on to to love it. You had to be there I guess.

Oct 11 2025

Puke. I have the lowest tolerance in the world for twee bullshit. I've said it before and I'll say it again, just plug in the electric guitar guys. Somewhere in here is Built to Spill's seventh best album and thus a 4/5 album

Oct 12 2025

not the right tupac album, should've been all eyes on me. that being said, enjoyed this more than I thought I was going to, I don't remember enjoying this as much as I did

A Hard Day's Night by Beatles
Oct 18 2025

thoroughly enjoyed this. I've had a glit of albums that I could not say I thoroughly enjoyed, so I'll give this a 4. beatles album rankings so far: 1. hard days night 2. with the beatles 3. rubber soul 4. white album

Murmur by R.E.M.
Oct 19 2025

some 2/5 moments, some 4/5 moments, lets split the difference

Fifth Dimension by The Byrds
Oct 20 2025

enjoyed this a lot more than the other byrds album ive had. very high 3

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Oct 21 2025

i wanted to like it, but I really did not. the guys voice is annoying

Arise by Sepultura
Oct 22 2025

its alright. i like metal, but heavy metal vocals like this aren't for me

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Oct 24 2025
Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Oct 25 2025

had no idea about this album before listening. i love the idea of an evil beach boys album where they still go to the beach but this time its bad. helps that it was like 30 minutes and the music was decent too

Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi
Oct 26 2025

my cursor is pixels away from giving it a 1/5 but i cant bring myself to do it

Imagine by John Lennon
Oct 27 2025

i have to be honest, i stopped this half way through.

xx by The xx
Oct 28 2025

hate this shit

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Nov 01 2025

such a good album; nice and jaunty. maybe the best bass guitar album ever.

Nov 02 2025

so good, laid the groundwork for so many great albums. you can mark a pre-wu-tang hip hop and post-wu-tang hip hop with this release. its worth noting that midnight marauders by a tribe called quest released the exact same day as this one

Gentlemen by The Afghan Whigs
Nov 03 2025

really dont like this one. why is it here.

2112 by Rush
Nov 04 2025

got such a soft spot for these guys

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
Nov 05 2025

i dont think ive ever been so all over the place with my feelings about an artist as paul mccartney. cant quite put my finger on it. i liked this one for what its worth.

Nov 06 2025

will i ever go back to this album? unlikely. i dont know what draws me back to an album, but whatever it is, it is absent here. must stress, its not bad

Shadowland by k.d. lang
Nov 07 2025

maybe if you were more well versed in the genre youd have bigger qualms with this, its got a low rating for the website. but not me, i enjoyed it.

Revolver by Beatles
Nov 09 2025

the beatles have had some (personally) polarizing albums thus far. id put this cleanly next to rubber soul. right below rubber soul. im not as up on the bealtes compared to most, so i wonder if their later sounds have had, at the time at least, their 'novelty' (putting it lightly) wear off. ive probably listened to 100s of albums who would cite the later beatles albums as direct inspiration, so the ground-breaking-ness doesnt land. their older albums sound fresh and the clearly older stylings are in turn, much fresher to my ears. its all good music, except for the piece of shit white album. hows the actual music of revolver? good and easy, i cant really place any criticisms. rubber soul had better tunes i guess. beatles album rankings so far: 1. hard days night 2. with the beatles 3. rubber soul 4. revolver 5. white album

Damaged by Black Flag
Nov 10 2025

i like the sincerity of the lyrics. its a common staple for punk, especially the early stuff, but it shines through here. theres no hiding behind metaphors, its all brevity here.

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Nov 11 2025

ive listened to this one a lot, i assumed itd be a 5 going in to it, but it didn't mme tthe mark i think

En-Tact by The Shamen
Nov 12 2025

nah

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Nov 13 2025

Don't know what it is about Eric Clapton that makes me feel like I should dislike the music. I don't think it's the racism, but it's not not the racism. He looks like his music should be dog shit, but I enjoy a concise album

White Light / White Heat by The Velvet Underground
Nov 14 2025

surprisingly enjoyable. i can see why they are so influential

Abbey Road by Beatles
Nov 15 2025

i dont know why ive found it so hard to put a ranking to this one. its really good, but just lacks something to really tip it over the edge for me to really enjoy it. second favourite beatles album. i'll give it a 4; if im spending all this time worrying over it, something must have stuck with me beatles album rankings so far: 1. hard days night 2. abbey road 3. with the beatles 4. rubber soul 5. revolver 6. white album

Soul Mining by The The
Nov 16 2025

i dont like new wave. why are they going for that same annoying put on voice bleh

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Nov 17 2025

It's alright, not for me tho

My Generation by The Who
Nov 18 2025

You can see why they were a big deal. It holds up alright

Chris by Christine and the Queens
Nov 19 2025

far from the worst of the list, still does nothing for moi

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Nov 20 2025

really choppy, my opinion of it changed with every song. im happy to remember the good ones though

Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson
Nov 21 2025

ont my favourite kind of music, but probably the best of the style ive heard at least (which is not much)

Van Halen by Van Halen
Nov 22 2025

this is why i love this list. i thought i knew exactly what i was getting in to with van halen, shitty run of the mill hair metal band, but boy was i wrong. they are all that and have the audacity to scat as well! who knew

Moondance by Van Morrison
Nov 24 2025

longest 38 minutes of my life

Marquee Moon by Television
Dec 01 2025

i want there to be .5 scores. maybe we could just split the difference and keep it the way it is now but with a 4.5 rating as well. because this is a 4.5. ill give it the benfit of the doubt though

Tommy by The Who
Dec 02 2025

got bored and didnt finish it

Repeater by Fugazi
Dec 03 2025

i love fugazi, this is a surprisingly creative album

Oar by Alexander 'Skip' Spence
Dec 04 2025

i dont know what psychedelic music is i guess, i thought i did. not feeling this one at all. there are lots of cool numbers lower than 1001 that the author could have chosen like 777 or 500 or 666.

Phaedra by Tangerine Dream
Dec 05 2025

i dont like being all cynical and reductive but theres only so many "da doo doo"s i can listen to in one sitting. i like to imagine them in the studio standing around being like "oh yeah need some more bleep boops here definitely, maybe axe the whee woo?"

Play by Moby
Dec 06 2025

utter crap. strips down music to its worst parts and builds it back up to complete garbage

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Dec 07 2025

too many hits

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Dec 10 2025

easy peasy 3

Bad Company by Bad Company
Dec 12 2025

just too boring. nothing makes it stand out from the crowd, even a little bit

The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Dec 13 2025

nhow ca you not love this. might be a top 5 album on the whole list

Post Orgasmic Chill by Skunk Anansie
Dec 14 2025

blew away my expectations, they were so low that it still is only a 3

25 by Adele
Dec 16 2025

white noise

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Dec 18 2025

pleasantly suprised by this. obviously i know the first track, and going off of this, i wasnt expecting to like it. but! it is so much better. like everyone else has said, it does not sound like its from the early 80s. i listened to so many crappy albums growing up that were knock offs of this, its like the other side of the coin to the meat puppets

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Dec 19 2025

i spose i can see why this was crazy to listen to 60 years ago, but it doesn't do anything for me

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Dec 20 2025

i suppose its not bad, just does nothing for me. and am i crazy or are the drums terrible on this

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
Dec 21 2025

not really my cup of tea, but there are some good tunes on this. some crap ones too. great sounding drums

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Dec 22 2025

i hate this kind of stuff usually, but once starting the album, i feel like i got what it was going for, tweeness excepted. but it just went on and on and on, just one long, unchanging song, bleh

A Love Supreme by John Coltrane
Dec 23 2025

What a lovely album. I like jazz music, I listen to it often, but I don't think I'm some aficionado. But when I listen, I feel like I'm hearing the guy behind the sax or the bass so clearly and intimately. Obviously, the music has to be good, or any pangs of authenticity will fall on deaf ears, and it is good. The push and pull is mesmerising, great listen

Dig Me Out by Sleater-Kinney
Dec 24 2025

not bad, high 3

Deserter's Songs by Mercury Rev
Dec 28 2025

this takes heavily from the flaming lips and daniel johnston. i dont like the flaming lips, and i dont like a fluffed up daniel johnston. ill just listen to the original. production budget was too high on this one

this is album 261 for me and if by this point the importance of an album doesn't have any creedance on the rating, it never will. dont like this one, dont care about it either unfortunately

Faust IV by Faust
Jan 04 2026

ive read some reviews on this site that posture that if you dont like a certain album its because youre a simple minded pencil pusher and if you arent out there living life the album will fall flat. this album is for boring people. i was doing some mind numbingly menial work listening to this and the album paired perfectly. i felt like i was in a shitty david fincher film smacking away at the keyboard

if youre gonna be shit at singing at least pretend to be good, good god. and i dont like this idea that just cos hes mopey and the subject itself is sad that it works together. like its just boring. it can be sad and not boring.
