There's nothing to see here. I'd be less annoyed if it weren't for the annoying lyrics as well. Too much name dropping, too many stilted, poorly flowing verses.

2 long. I wanted to give it a 3 because I like Walk of Life until I was told it would be better as a Springsteen song and I can't agree more. Money for nothing is alright, just a pretty boring album.

I listened to this a lot when I was younger and figured it'd be a 3 before listening. The album is on the longer side compared to contemporaries, but being ~1 hour long isn't necessarily a detriment. As long as it is varied and consistent it should be good, but I don't think it quite achieves that, not like Enter The Wu-Tang or Black On Both Sides. I think it is worth a 4 though; there are some great beats on the first half of the album, second half slows down a little, but I think it flows well enough that its okay. The singles, though, are fantastic, so I think it needs to be better than a 3.

I don't understand the poor mixing comments. She's certainly mixed low on many of the songs, but I can't see how it isn't intentional. I think the low mixing being intentional comes off clearest on 'Hook'

I love this album, have since the first listen.
Going through this list has just reinforced how amazing a work it is. I think that it can be easy to fence in The Smiths (especially Morrissey) as whingy, goth, opposite-of-life-affirming, etc., but that requires a level of cynicism utterly absent from this album.
It is a lyrical triumph, completely pithy, sarcastic; totally, perfectly witty. After listening to ~70 albums on this list I've come to adore the restraint shown in the writing, Morrissey without fail, nails the message in the fewest words possible (some girls really are just bigger than others). All this without mentioning how on point the instrumentals and production remains from the first second to last wail. I've listened to, maybe, a million albums in my life and I'm still amazed at how tight every melody remains. Like the writing, they literally never get old. 100/5
Frankly Mr. Shankly is still my fav on this album. (One last note, how refreshing is a 37min album from the list? I think there are more albums >75 mins than <45 mins so far)

there's so much depth to this album, so many sounds and instruments at the same time. I could listen to this over and over. I would usually find some of the songs saccharine, don't know if its the nostalgia, but I have no problems, great album

I resent this album being on the list. It comes from one of the most explosive eras of music and this is the submission. No Aquemini, no Black On Both Sides, no Midnight Marauders, no Moment of Truth, no Things Fall Apart(!!), no Ironman, no ATLiens, no Black Star, no The Infamous(!!!!!!). Instead we get the dustiest, most forgettable rap album of the 90s.
It shouldn't be this hard to figure out, just plug in an electric guitar guys. SNOOZE

when i read the endless screeds posted about the beatles or the rolling stones or led zeppelin i simply dont get it. the music is alright, i dont hate it, but they put out some incredibly samey music. im always surprised to read the really heartfelt and genuine responses to these classic 60s,70s rock albums, but im often left feeling the same way; there are a couple good songs, but the rest is quite one note.
so when i see similar criticism levelled at an album like this, i can only realise that we were born in different generations and theres nothing that can change that. this album is fun, varied, energetic, so creative and lively. i will endeavour to spend less time reading negative reviews for albums that i enjoy

the beatles have had some (personally) polarizing albums thus far. id put this cleanly next to rubber soul. right below rubber soul. im not as up on the bealtes compared to most, so i wonder if their later sounds have had, at the time at least, their 'novelty' (putting it lightly) wear off. ive probably listened to 100s of albums who would cite the later beatles albums as direct inspiration, so the ground-breaking-ness doesnt land. their older albums sound fresh and the clearly older stylings are in turn, much fresher to my ears. its all good music, except for the piece of shit white album. hows the actual music of revolver? good and easy, i cant really place any criticisms. rubber soul had better tunes i guess.

i like the sincerity of the lyrics. its a common staple for punk, especially the early stuff, but it shines through here. theres no hiding behind metaphors, its all brevity here.

i dont know what psychedelic music is i guess, i thought i did. not feeling this one at all. there are lots of cool numbers lower than 1001 that the author could have chosen like 777 or 500 or 666.
i dont like being all cynical and reductive but theres only so many "da doo doo"s i can listen to in one sitting. i like to imagine them in the studio standing around being like "oh yeah need some more bleep boops here definitely, maybe axe the whee woo?"

What a lovely album. I like jazz music, I listen to it often, but I don't think I'm some aficionado. But when I listen, I feel like I'm hearing the guy behind the sax or the bass so clearly and intimately. Obviously, the music has to be good, or any pangs of authenticity will fall on deaf ears, and it is good. The push and pull is mesmerising, great listen
