Kinda okay. For me it started strong then fell off as the album went on.
2.5/5
Quite an enjoyable ride, but its half hits half misses. Can't call myself a "Mr. Brightside Lover" but my white heritage requires it of me.
4/5 for me, it has too many oddities to make it a 5/5, but the hits on this album HIT.
Wow! What an album. Ethereal, Sad, Happy, and everything between. Yeah, its got a rap of being like starbucks music, but honestly sometimes you need something like this to relax you.
My first 5/5, and saved to my albums!
A great time! Never thought I would enjoy a live soul album, but Sam Cooke's energy was infectious. 4/5!
Was not very impressed on my first blind listen. Just really not my vibe, and the 90's indie scene doesn't tickle my fancy. Lyrics are just not great, signing is meh, and it just doesn't make me feel anything but bored. 1.5/5.
The lyrics remind me a lot of the Beatles, but not in a good way.
I only really know Mariah Carey from her Christmas stuff, so I was excited to get into her more R&B side. However, I was quite disappointed in just how boring the whole thing was. Her voice is the only shining star throughout, but overall, its just a boring, not so fun voice demo.
Also reminded me of Christmas in mid-august so that took a star off.
2/5
How can something so punchy be so boring?? The instrumentals and punch behind the guitar/drums in each song is so strong, but the lyrics just completely get lost in the music for me, making it hard to come away with anything other than "meh".
It somehow gets worse as the album goes on, from being a half-decent listen, but then once I actually start hearing the lyrics to some of the songs, they just aren't good. I'm really not sure what is being attempted on this album. I have no nostalgia for this era of Indie rock, so its honestly pretty boring and not something I would re-visit. 2.5/5
As I continued, it kept getting worse. 2/5.
What a fun experience. There were a few songs that I didn't particularly love, (Highways of My Life, Listen to the Music), but overall, the album was superb. 4.5/5 for me, and the guitar!! What a pleasant surprise.
Yikes. I... really did not like this album. Something about this just screams "boomer music" in the worst way possible. If this is your favorite album you have to be 65+ and also be on the best drugs that the 60's had on offer.
Her voice is good, but, everything else is just so weird and surreal? Sometimes I feel like I'm listening to a children's show, then I'm in a french coffee shop.
1/5.
Overall, it wasn't my favorite. Its entirely a decent album that showcases Janis's vocal abilities, but I didn't find any of the songs too enjoyable for my tastes. I just don't think I would ever hop back into this album, and even the most popular song on it (Me and Bobby McGee) was not as good as I had hoped. 2.5/5.
This is one of the more "Experimental" albums I've listened to, and from what I know of Bjork, which isn't a lot, is that this is her style. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the wide variety of styles present, and couldn't find or enjoy any of the songs beyond a "acceptable background music" level.
As usual, I'm viewing this from a modern lens and not accounting for how potentially genre-defining Bjork was back in 1993, but the album does pick up a bit in the second half.
As the album goes on, I keep adjusting my rating from a 2, to a 3, to a 2.5 and back around again. Does that show how much my taste varies song to song? Probably.
2.5/5.
You ever start reading a book, and its not quite fun to read? And as you keep reading it gets less and less fun? And you're thinking "Certainly there's a point to all this reading" and about halfway through you realize that its not going to get much better than this and you couldn't be bothered to continue?
Yeah thats this album. Its just... noise. I expected some sort of depth or interesting concept behind it, but about 4 songs in I just couldn't subject myself to it, and I DNF'd.
1/5
Great listen! Not a ton to go on here, but I enjoyed the lesser-known songs by Aretha, and never really felt like it went in a bad direction. Solid 4/5
How quaint! This album was full of surprise hits and enjoyable guitar alongside some heartfelt lyrics. Something about the album cover conveys the message of the album so well, and was such a pleasant listen.
4/5! I wish Tea For the Tillerman was longer, and a couple songs weren't as strong, but the recognition of Wild World and the songwriting of Father & Son really shone.
A fun listen! There were plenty of great lyrics and I really enjoyed the guitar and instrumentation throughout. As it jumped from sub-genre to sub-genre, it still had a connected feel to it that I really enjoyed. A nice 3.5/5
This is a really weird album. It just... doesn't feel right. Like this thing came out in the late 70's, but it feels like a 90's album, but not in the best ways? I can still feel the 70's smoke lingering in most of the songs, and I'm not a huge fan of Costello's voice.
2.5/5? Its hard to rate this one, but its perfectly average, but leaning toward the 2/5 rating.
Few hits that I know of, but the rest of the album falls pretty flat. Otherwise, its a decent record that I probably won't be replaying very often. 3/5.
What a fun ride, like a bat out of hell. Honestly, the album cover goes so hard it deserves an extra star for just bringing so much emotion to the album, and on top of the unique and sick guitar that exists plus the "musical" style that I think it does really, really well. A solid 4.5/5 album for me, leaning 4 because I can't put some of the 9 minute songs into any of my playlists.
Noise for noise sake. I liked the guitar parts only a little bit, but the lyrics really turned this down for me. 2/5.
I can see the vision but it just doesnt land in any capacity.
Enjoyable album, but nothing absolutely crazy. A solid 3.5/5 if I've heard one. Enjoyed a couple songs a lot more than others, but not something I'll be revisiting from the ZZ Top catalog.
Great album! I actually listened to it twice I enjoyed it so much. I mean, Hallelujah was just such a good cover and high point that it made the rest look bad by comparison, but I enjoyed every song. Easy 5/5 for me.
Fun, upbeat and interesting. Loved the vibe of Last Train to Trancentral, and plenty of songs I was bobbing my head along to. A nice 4/5
I listened to this album on a road trip and about 3 hours later promptly forgot everything this album had to offer.
2/5.
A nice little album. Nothing crazy from my listening, but I can see the influence on future artists, but not something I'll come back to. 2.5/5.
Fun, but not totally exciting album. I recognized a few songs but nothing that was like "wow". 3/5.
Ya know, I get it. This isn't music, its noise, and if I'm on a website about music, I'm going to get pretty annoyed that I have to listen to "industrial".
1/5, should be 0. I don't really want to listen to gurgling for my daily "album".
5/5, is there really any doubt? Billy Joel is an icon, and The Stranger is packed full of hits, and is just an absolute treat front to back.
Not my favorite queen album, but overall its still super good. 4/5.
What a weird album. The most popular songs on it aren't even that good. I've never really listened to a Pink Floyd album in its entirety, and I'm beginning to understand why. 1.5/5.
Its insane this album came out in 1968. The powerful instrumentals accented by her soulful, energetic voice carry this record, and has such a modern feel to it. I can see why this record influenced many artists in the 80's and 90's, it absolutely slaps.
4.5/5.
This album just wasn't for me. I felt a lot of the songs were filler, and didn't have that punchy Ray Charles vibe that I was hoping for. I was definitely impacted by bias over Charles' best hits, and I expected more on this one. 3/5.
2 songs are absolute bangers, and the others fall just behind in quality, then a couple more are "meh". I didn't find the songs as a whole produced a 5/5, but its a solid 4.5/5 - 4/5 for me.
What a wild ride of an album. It felt so angsty and counter to everything I usually enjoy, but right after "Androgynous" hits, the album opens up into a more mellow, introspective version that I really enjoyed. 3.5/5.
Not for me? I don't enjoy live albums, plus the 10+ minute songs really just make me not want to listen. The actual content is solid, but it really feels like a jam session for a live audience.
2/5.
I am stupid. I listened to this at 1.5x speed and when I realized it, it was far too late. Forgive me, Jungle Brothers, but I didn't enjoy it enough to re-listen for another hour. 2.5/5.
Fun album! The synthpop of the 80's really shines, and the two "huge hits" are true classics. I enjoyed the other songs as well, but overall, a solid 4.5/5 album for me.
Funky. Sometimes a little too funky. 2.5/5.
Nice listen. Plenty of enjoyable songs! I may be the minority, but I'm not a huge fan of her voice. However, songwriting and rhythm really shine, and its still a 5/5 album.
Modern rhythm and beats while being headlined by a classical, strong voice? Yes please. Make the lyrics interesting and beautiful, and its just an easy 5/5.
Fun, upbeat album. It falls off a little at the end, but I enjoyed my listen. 4/5.
Quite an interesting take on southern rock. I don't hate the way they did it, and its honestly admirable. I also don't totally agree, but hey, do what you want!
Overall, more enjoyable than I anticipated, so a 3/5.
Not anything to write home about. An interesting pop-punk album that I don't totally vibe with, but I can see would have an audience. 3/5.
Enjoyable, and has opens strong. Drags on a little too long, but not anything unbearable. 3/5.
Its alright? Nothing on this album makes me want to listen to more springsteen, but the musical composition is solid, but I just really couldn't vibe with it. 3/5.
What a throwback to the mid-pandemic 2020's. An expression of black culture after the Floyd killing, this album has a varied style that I quite enjoyed, with "Wildfire" being the best song by far, but there are a few other songs that I really enjoyed. There are some that I didn't particularly enjoy, but they don't stay long enough to detract from the album.
I do believe that your culture and life experiences would greatly impact your view on this album, and being white, I don't feel the same impact on this record that someone else might. However, I do respect the work, and thus, I believe this is a solid 4/5.
Starts off great with "Sympathy for the Devil", then it just gets worse? It abandons a great vibe in favor of what I would best describe as "hick rock", feeling like it belongs in 1950's Mississippi. Does it do that well? No, not really. It is quite boring and unenjoyable. Jig-Saw puzzle does it a lot better than the previous few songs, but its still not reaching beyond "good".
2/5.
Great guitar, enjoyable singing, and a great 70's rock album. Its not something I will go back to, but for a one time listen its doing a really good job. 4/5.
I did not enjoy this record, pretty much at all. The only true redeeming quality is Biggie's flow, and thats only if you don't really pay attention to what he's rapping about. Gangster rap is a product of its time, and unfortunately, I don't think it holds up at all. I couldn't imagine pulling this out at a social function and trying to convince my friends and family that the sex noises at the end of "Respect" are actually some deep introspective look at gangster culture. Its just a fat man getting some sloppy toppy from a prostitute.
1/5.
Fun, enjoyable listen. Great voice, and easy to listen to.
4/5.
I really wanted to enjoy this album, but at the end of the day I couldn't. Nothing really clicked, and I won't probably ever listen to it again. There are some light redeeming qualities, but not enough to justify higher than a 2/5.
Uhhhhhh
2/5? I'm really not sure how to describe my feelings about this album. It exists?
Cute little soft rock album that I surprisingly enjoyed. 3/5, simply because its not anything I haven't heard elsewhere, but its still an enjoyable listen. Feels like 2005-2010 soft rock, which I enjoy a lot.
Classic unc hiphop. The Aerosmith feature was crazy, and the intro four songs were certified classics. However, the album generally doesn't keep that same energy through the whole setlist, and becomes quite same-y. However, the album peaks so high it still gets a low 4.5/5.
Surprisingly good! His voice is great, but a couple of songs fall completely flat for me. However, the songwriting and imagery he is able to picture in the rest of this album makes it a very solid 4/5, and I even re-listened to a couple of the songs again.
Just jam-packed with sound and energy. Made feel something which is hard to say for most other Brit-rock adjacent albums. It just feels like these guys are having a great time playing this music, and that makes me enjoy it even more.
4.5/5
Fun, simple listen. Had me nodding along for the first half, but then loses some steam as it wears on. Solid 3.5/5, leaning 3.
Its okay. Not anything that I love, but its got 80's funk oozing all over it. 2/5.
How are the rolling stones so damn boring? I just am sitting here slackmouthed at the audacity to think I would want to enjoy listening to this album. 1/5.
I'd give it a 2 for "Paint it, Black" but I think my Guitar Hero nostalgia is what makes me want to do so, so I'll refrain. Every other song sucks.
Honestly enjoyed it. Quite fun and bright! 4/5.
Interesting album. Had a couple bangers that I really enjoyed, but the others fell a little short of expectation. 3/5.
Kinda boring, but also basically perfect 60’s rock. 2.5/5
Not my vibe, but still interesting. 2/5.
Oh boy a cover album. But well done! 3/5.
I REALLY do not like British punk. Everyone else really seemed to enjoy it, but personally, found something about it unenjoyable. 2/5.
3 stars. Boring to me, as most british music seems to be, but isn't so terrible I wouldn't hate hearing it again.
Pretty classic soul album. no particular song blew me away, but overall had a good vibe that I enjoyed. 3/5.
This is my second NYC 90’s rap album, the first being Biggie’s “Ready to Die”, which I gave 1 star. I thought that many of the parts that I didn’t enjoy of NYC Rap would persist into “Illmatic”, but I felt that the tone of this album was much different, supporting better beats, features and lyricism.
Not every song is a hit, but I quite enjoyed the tone and direction this album showcased.
Good, but not my vibe. I can tell it has some great elements and wanted to get me to move and dance, but Salsa is not my type of music.
MORE 80's britpop. I'm sure there are so many more albums from differing artists in different countries across different genres. They all sound the same. Please help me. 2/5.
Overall, an enjoyable album. I don't think it has the punch of some of White's later albums, and there were a few "misses" on this one. A decent 3.5/5.
Pretty good, but also nothing spectacular. Nothing about this album really pops for me, and there are better REM records.
British Punk is not my favorite Genre, and I honestly struggled to get through this. However, themes were good, but honestly the entire album just dragged on and on. 2/5.
Great album. Had some slappers, then some less so. 4/5.
This album absolutely rocked. Super fun, energetic, and full of great instrumentals. 5/5.
One good song in a sea of mediocrity. The ending made it worse. 2/5.
This is auditory slop in a bad way. I did not enjoy listening to this, and if this is the "peak" Jazz album I will happily avoid the genre in its entirety.
It felt like I was sitting in a panera bread eating re-heated soup in a hard to eat bread bowl. Ew.
I feel like I need to put this as a 5/5 just because of what it is meant to be, rather than what is actually is. The good is that the entire album flows so effortlessly, has great components, and is a fun listen. The bad is that the album feels a bit empty at times, but nothing that makes it bad. I am too young to fully understand the gravity of what Dark Side of the Moon meant, so I'll trust the elders. 5/5.
The way I enjoy music, which is basically all the "Music" and not the lyrics, defies me here. The composition, classical country, and smoothness makes me enjoy this album as long as I don't really listen to the lyrics.
This album also fails me in the "I'm a hardworkin' American man" from a dude who flies private.
Enjoyable, funky, and smooth. 4/5.
Not amazing. For a 1998 Indian Club House record, its pretty good, but in the overall scheme of things I would rather listen to some other artists from this era. Feels like Bollywood Tokyo Drift
Before looking at the reviews, I felt in my heart that it would average a 3.2/5. I totally see it - the lyrics are whispered, the beats are reminiscent of 2009, but thats what makes this album shine. Its the entry point into electronic and house music for mainstream pop fans, and is a mellow entrance into a dance/club style of music that would become popular into the 2010's. 5/5.
