1001 Albums Summary

I never liked Jay Kay so as a 1st album in this project I thought- oh dear. Put the album on and was surprised how good it was. I’m giving it a 3 but it probably deserves a 4 and I am marking it down just because of past prejudice.

2/1001 Quite different from what i usually listen to. I read a bit about the album before i listened to it. Fela Kuti had something to do with the Talking Heads album Remain in the light which I really like and I have recently been listening to Creams White Room. As a result I was interested to see what this album was about. I really liked it, from the opening bars that made me think of Oceans eleven to the 14 minute drum solo at the end - great stuff. This will be getting another listen in the future.

I’m a big fan of the early Morrisey solo albums so I really don’t know why I have never listened to any Smiths albums other than probably a best of the Smiths album. Very good album and I knew more songs than I thought I would from looking at the titles.

I don’t think I know any AIC songs. For a first listen knowing nothing of them I quite liked it. I think on a few repeat listens this would make it to 5 but the tradegy of this project is you move on to the next album without having the chance to really get to know an album that is totally new to you.

Nearly a week into this and i have realised there are going to be a lot of good albums on here. I think i need to adjust my marking system otherwise I will end up with about 700 5/5 albums. So my revised marking system will be based on: 5 = Top notch, I will come back to this album again and again. 4 = Still really good, fair chance of repeat listening and has the potential to become a 5. 3 = Good album, probably 2 or 3 really good tracks but can’t see myself playing this again. 2 = Made it to the end of the album, didn’t hate it. 1 = Make it stop. Not sure if I can go back and revise my previous scores. Also decided to start a playlist and add 1 song from each album to the playlist. I haven’t decided yet if I will add a song if the album scores less than a 3. I guess we will find out when a low scoring album comes along. Onto this album. It’s close to a 4 but with my tougher marking system it is going to get a 3. Added Get Up to the playlist.

Even the songs i already knew did not really grab me.

Thought I would like this way more than i did. Added too young to my playlist. I will see if it grows on me a bit more.

Best thing about this album is it’s short.

I have to say the I much prefer the Morrissey albums from the 2000s. Added them more you ignore me to playlist.

Well that was a slow album with no highlights.

Added last nite to playlist. Was good. A lot of songs felt quite familiar.

Finally caught up on this one.

I had never heard of them before but enjoyed the album. What is that wibbly noise.

My brother had this album so i knew it very well. I enjoyed listening to it again. It always amused me the 10second songs to keep you updated on the story line. I bought the soundtrack track album from a 2nd hand record store recently but definitely prefer the original album.

Finding it hard to remember anything about this album.

Probably the 1st hip hop album i have listened to.

Well that was a good album.

First album to come up that i have on vinyl. Still not quite a five star album though.

It made me think of Talking Heads. I enjoyed it however I am afraid I have to take a full point off just because this album cover is so so bad.

Fine fine fine.

Always seen this album on various lists of the best album ever but I never knew anything about it. Good to finally give it a listen and I can see why it makes it onto these lists. NY state of mind jumped out an instant favourite.

I thought I didn’t like Jazz and i was right.

Latino jazz was much better than previous days jazz. Hopefully no more jazz for a while.

Album was fine. No super high spots though.

It’s great when an album comes up and you go nope never heard of you. The album cover looks naff, Jesus the album is over an hour long. And then you press play. Loved it.

Love this album.

Well that was a big surprise. When this came up I thought what the hell have we got now. I loved it.

This album just did not grab me. I kept on checking to see how many more songs to go.

Going to see them next year but this is the 1st time i have listened to a full album of them. Good album.

First 2 tracks are great.

That’s a long album. I really liked it, showing my age but it’s the same reason i love any jean michel jarre album. Just put it on and let it do it’s thing while you get on and do your thing.

How did i get so many albums behind.
