Adele
3/5
Adele is a once in a lifetime vocalist, and to be fair, you can definitely sense it in this album.
I think the songwriting shines as well at many high moments.
What I don't really get is why she thought she needed the super modern bombastic production at certain songs. To be honest, it just makes her sound a bit weak.
Your a diva, Adele, you don't need to do anything to prove it.

Patti Smith
5/5
This album is absolutely incredible.
Not only that Patti is one of the greatest landscape creators in rock and roll history, and not only one of the best writers, she is also a captivating performer.
The band is absolutely killing it as well.
But above all the great things I've just said, the most important part is the emotional level.
This album touches the heart like no other.

Track 4- beautiful
Couldn't get behind this one at all.
Sadly forgot about it immediately after listening

The Clash
5/5
This is genuinely the ultimate punk rock album.
The best I've heard.
So vivid, groovy and powerful.
The songs are so good. The performances by everyone is so perfect.
What can I say.
Untouchable.

The Temptations
4/5
Produced incredibly. Stunning vocals.
Track 2- beautiful pop ballad
Track 3- great emotions. Musical break very good
Very smooth listening experience.
Track 5- mmmm
Side two so far, very poppy and sweet
8- fucking funky bass
Thank you for the recommendation.
The Prodigy
2/5
Very intense. A little bit dated.
From track 7 to 9 much more interesting.
Maybe a grower.
Perhaps good for working out
Pixies
5/5
An absolute classic.
Chaotic yet organized.
Energetic and youthful and fun to the core.
Super influential and reliseneble
Led Zeppelin
3/5
It is a classic, but not exactly my kind of classic.
The band sounds great, but I believe the first album captures better the blues and rawness of the group, and that they would achieve greater musical moments later in their career.
But indeed, a fan album nonetheless.
ZZ Top
3/5
A very fun great sounding album.
Good vocal performance from gibbons and wonderful lead guitar.
Front end better than the second.
Would surprisingly listen again.
Guns N' Roses
1/5
Cat Stevens
4/5
A wonderful group of songs. Beautifully written and performed. The hits and the other songs alike.
Truly a classic acoustic listen, great for easy mornings and chill times.
N.W.A.
4/5
Surprised that I liked it so much. Used to think early rap was much more basic but this has great production by dre and killer performances.
In a few more listens it might turn into a five
Red Snapper
2/5
Track 7 absolutely beautiful.
Until then a bit one noted to me.
Very groovy but not detailed.
Track 9 great too.
The End of it much better than the start! Another point better infact!
It would be a 2 1/2, but unfortunately I would have to give a 2
David Bowie
5/5
What can I say...
One of the best albums ever made. I might be biased but as a great bowie fan I must say that.
I had periods for every single song in this short yet prestige setlist.
Recommended for multiple listening. It is an album, like many from this master, for a lifetime.
Manic Street Preachers
4/5
It is a great record.
Uplifting music in a dark and troubled lyrical context.
Loved the fresh sound for 90' rock, with awesome vocal performances and songwriting .
A keeper.
Devendra Banhart
4/5
Lovely.
Very mysterious sounding.
Love the lowfi classical guitar. With touches of strings as well.
Lyrical content interesting.
Good album for nature and cozy rainy days.
I don't really now how to rank album's upon first time anymore. So it will just shoe my so far impressions of it.
It's a four.
Bill Evans Trio
3/5
I feel like I still have a way to go with Bill.
A great performance but I wasn't listening in the right time.
The trio is on fire, especially the bass.
Sarah Vaughan
3/5
Beautiful.
Sarah is such a magical vocalist, and her talent is depicted his wonderfully
Would like for the instruments to be heard better, but the sound quality of is a part of the magic, I guess
Jane Weaver
4/5
Track no1 strong
Track 2 beautiful
I'm listening more and more
Just a fucking quality record. Absolutely
The Police
3/5
It is a good album.
The highs are very high.
But what can I say, something isn't really working for me as a whole.
Would listen again though
4/5
A lovely record.
Great collection of songs, clean production and very good performance by Loretta.
A nice album for dinners and after noon coffee.
I'm not a big country guy, but this is one of the better I've heard
The Afghan Whigs
3/5
Great Great moments all over.
Couldn't completely catch everything on first time but I should listen more.
Emotional.
Some really high moments and overall good album experience
Final song phenomenal.
John Lennon
5/5
This small humble record is one of the best albums of all times.
In this specific instance, I want to praise ringo's drumming on this one.
A masterclass of playing exactly what you need. Nothing less Nothing more.
Coldplay
1/5
What can I say about this one.
People tend to say that this is their "potential" album. The one that suggests that they are a good band that took the wrong path.
While it's not a "bad" album, it's not good either.
Just, there. If you like Coldplay, and this is your favorite project by them, that's fine.
But if you don't, you won't find here much to love. Very monotonic, bland, the songwriting isn't great and chris Martin's vocals... if you like them you do, and I, sadly, do not.
What can I say...
I thought it was a two but
Lynyrd Skynyrd
2/5
It's fine. It's fun.
Not shure I've got much more to say.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
2/5
I think it's the fault of this wicked game, but I can't really evaluate new music anymore.
I need a break.
And this poor album was the one for this day, so sorry about that.
The Doors
4/5
A great record. A very strong start career.
It Should be an example for band who come to the studio with an established sound.
A classic for a good reason.
Cee Lo Green
2/5
9, 10, 14
Great songs
16 as well.
A good album. Nothing to special.
But good.
The Stranglers
3/5
A very nice good vibe album.
Love the keyboard touch on traditional punk.
Would listen again.
Jeff Buckley
4/5
Such a great album.
He's voice is absolutely beautiful, very intelligent and delicate guitar work, and the band rings amazing.
Wanted to listen for a long time but hesitated.
It's better than I thought
Destiny's Child
3/5
Actually a very sweet record.
Has many high points among its very poppy and non-pretentious setlist.
Good production that doesn't feel too 2000 in my ears.
And of course, great vocals and blend from the girls.
Nice indeed
Missy Elliott
2/5
It's a fine album.
Feels more r&b than hip hop, not that is a bad thing.
Some bangers for sure, though the album as a hole doesn't give an especially fascinating listening experience.
It a vibe, nonetheless. Would listen again while doing something
The Kinks
4/5
Ray Davies is such a great songwriter. This album is an intelligent yet fun representation of The Kinks' ability to embody the English spirit.
It's a great one. Full of 60's charm and much more than that.
Just wish that the recording and mix was better.
Pearl Jam
2/5
Not a bad album per se.
But not my cup of tea at all.
The Killers
3/5
Actually surprised.
It's quite a nice album.
Good energy and vocals.
Decent songwriting as well.
But the want to be the strokes. They are not...
Big Star
5/5
Absolutely beautiful.
Classic sound and very interesting songwriting.
Touching and strong.
The ballads here are spot on. Holocaust, Kanga Roo, Blue moon, take care.
So great.
Adele
Eminem
3/5
An hip hop classic.
Eminem at his best.
Some repetitive production now and than but you can't deny the bangers
Bruce Springsteen
5/5
Now we are talking.
This one is not far from being a perfect album.
A moment before bruce became the fame monster he is today he made this one.
It's magically grand yet intimate. Great songs all over where Bruce shines as an amazing composer as well.
Beautiful.
Run-D.M.C.
2/5
As much as I get the cultural significance of this record, it's not really my thing.
I do, anyway, think of it highly for what it is.
But humbly I must say that it didn't hold on in today's standards of production (and even rapping).
Derek & The Dominos
4/5
Its a great record.
Initially I was skeptical about the length, but it's just a classic double rock album, deserves it's 76 minutes.
I think Allmans here puts Clapton in a more relaxed version, not trying to prove anything. And he shines ad a result.
Good balance of blues and ballads.
Fantastic listen.
Charles Mingus
5/5
That's one incredible musical achievement by Mingus.
A love at first listening to me.
The creativity and flow of this piece never stops amazing me, and I always find new details every time I come back.
A must for each music enthusiast.
Ray Price
1/5
That's a very disappointing one for me.
Just getting more into country classics I was excited for this.
But, just wasn't doing anything.
Bland, monotonic, and not even nighly enough to justify the name.
Sad.
Stan Getz
4/5
This album is a the shining experience of being cool yet not boring, communicative yet complex and nuanced.
As a huge Gilberto fan I have My criticism too.
In my opinion, Getz isn't as needed here as he seemed to be at the time this was released.
He is a very fine sax player, but the issue in the record is definitely the song and Joao's delivery.
But I have to add that his solo on so danco samba is a masterpiece.
It's a very very high 4
Bert Jansch
4/5
Such a beautiful, enchanting and dark acoustic album.
Can't believe I didn't know it before, great to know now.
I need to find it on vinyl!
Morrissey
2/5
I am very committed to this game.
And when you are, some time you need to listen to albums when you really don't feel like it.
That's an example.
But... it's not bad.
Something about Morrissey's lyrics feels so ridiculous at times without the genius of the music and arrangements of the Smiths.
But,, it is listenable.
2.5, maybe?
Steely Dan
3/5
It's a very good album, but one that in my opinion is outshined by it's predecessors.
A poof that a good fun album can be a 3
ZZ Top
2/5
Second zz top album generated for me this month.
Both are nice.
The band sounds great, and Gibbons is definitely a powerful guitarist-vocalis.
But I can't say this kind of music sparks much in me at the time...
Good, nice, but not much more.
Rocket From The Crypt
3/5
A very nice time with this one.
A good record.
Don't know if I'll go back to it soon, but at some point it's possible
Stevie Wonder
5/5
If you never heard this record, and this random album generated it, it's the best thing it will ever do for you.
Trust me, you don't need much more.
It's a masterpiece, and as with all Stevie's great albums, it never fails in making my day better.
fIREHOSE
2/5
I really wanted to like this one, but I just didn't get it
Seems like not much was going on, except of some nice textures from the band.
Just didn't feel like much at all
Iron Maiden
3/5
Really surprised about it, but I it's a great one!
Super fun, energetic, the band has the best sound.
Steve Harris is a great bass player, which is always fun, and a very good song and riff writer.
And awesome guitar work as well!
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
2/5
A nice record.
A showcase of Clapton's guitar powers that soon will make him "god".
I particularly loved the guitar sound.
The band plays well also.
But not something I think I'll go back to often.
Goldfrapp
3/5
A lovely record.
Very sweet, good production and interesting songs.
Would listen again
Bon Jovi
2/5
Not my jam at all, but not a *bad* record.
I guess it can be liked if it's your style.
But for me there's nothing to go back to
Pink Floyd
5/5
This album was very significant in my musical journey as a child.
Years later people try to convince me that 1: Pink Floyd are not great as I remember them to be, and 2: especially not the Wall.
I'm happy to tell this people- you are wrong.
This record, as any rock opera, has a youthful shine to it, and I can get why it might be considered pretentious. But it delivers.
The concept, in my opinion, still works, it still bothers me and scratches my head.
And especially, the songs are so strong, preformed so well and produced perfectly.
So to my younger self and myself today, it was a 5 and still is
Jack White
3/5
It's a very nice rock album.
Great vibes all over.
Would listen again.
Jack is truly a super talented musician.
Oh, and the guitar solos- so unique, virtuous and out of the box- just as guitar solos should be like in the 21' century
Patti Smith
Dusty Springfield
3/5
A very sweet record
Dusty has a great voice and smooth delivery.
I don't think it's the best song selection, though I love the second half with the Bacharach songs in it
Marianne Faithfull
4/5
Such a touching album.
Great songs, the production blends well rock and early Electronica and Marianne's voice is super special and exposed yet strong.
The song broken English itself was a favorite of mine for a long time, but hearing the entire album now just makes me appreciate it more.
Peter Gabriel
4/5
A very strong album.
I need more listens
Queen
3/5
One of my two favorite queen albums.
Not the all thing is consistent but the second half is a prog masterclass from freddie
Eels
1/5
Track 4- beautiful
Couldn't get behind this one at all.
Sadly forgot about it immediately after listening
Buffalo Springfield
4/5
A very good album
Loved the harmonies and the interesting production.
Definitely will listen again
Alanis Morissette
3/5
Yes, it might be dated sounding at times, and the hits on it may be overplayed, but you just can't deny the energy of this record.
Alanis is so passionate, you can hear that in her vocals and driving force of very well written lyrics and great choruses.
A very well made record.
Fun and consistent
The consistency affects a little bit the production and instrumentation in my opinion
But the great energy definitely carries the album through the entire listening time
Nirvana
4/5
Should have come to this one much earlier, as a continuation to Nevermind.
It's a great record, much to digest though.
So tragic to think this is the last I will hear from Kurt. That's one of the reasons I was waiting for it for a long time.
Tracks 1, 3, 4, 6, 9 12 absolutely fire
Public Image Ltd.
2/5
First song is a good listen throughout. Long and repetitive but fun to listen to.
Didn't enjoy 2-4 very much.
Five is a good song, especially loved the guitar work.
Overall, listening to it doesn't make me like Lydan's voice and presence.
6 is nice aswell. With the best vocals so far.
7,8, not much. 8 especially isn't great and doesn't seem like a good way to end the record.
Underwhelming listen, I must say. Not much more than that.
It's probably a 1.5 but I'll be generous because there are some vibes on it.
Fela Kuti
4/5
What a magnificent listen.
I love Fela. He is a band leader like no other. The energy that he sends to the band is fabulous.
This album is absolutely amazing. It might be a little less dinemic inside the tracks than London session (the other of his that I heard) but the progression that builds between this 4 long songs is incredible.
It starts quite slowly with the viby Zombie, than transforms into the great Mr. Follow Follow, with its great drum and bass appearances.
It really kicks on in my opinion in the second half with the brass arrangement on Observation is no crime. Than, surprisingly it moves to the live gam of Mistake. I was afraid it might disrupt the rithem of the track list but the live atmosphere only adds to the energy of the gam, that leads into a satisfying finish to the album.
As always, Fela's presence on the record is amazing vocaly, and I adore his keyboard parts. They add a lot to the texture of the music in my opinion.
Lovely, lovely record.
Radiohead
3/5
This is an interesting record in Radioheads discography.
As a big Radiohead fan I must say I think it's mostly lovely.
Not as good as the ones that came before and after it, but unique nonetheless.
I enjoy the jazz esthetics that shine now and then, and thom adds some great moments to the incredible Radiohead songbook.
2, 4 6, 8, 11 are among the highlights.
Simon & Garfunkel
5/5
This record contains, and starts with one of the greatest song of western pop history, but somehow manges not to fall down in quality afterwards. Just for that fact it deserves all the praises it gets.
A magnificent work by Simon and Garfunkel. Beautifully balanced between anthems that only Paul can write to small hidden songs that only Paul could write.
A finel work by the dou, but what a way to finish a career full of highlights.
If you didn't listen to it yet, well, you should.
It's absolutely amazing fucking big fat five.
Elis Regina
4/5
Just a beautiful collection of songs.
I didn't listen to elis much, except her work with tom jobim, although I am a big Brazilian music guy.
Was having a hard time finding this compilation, but glad I did.
Wonderful performances of great songs, good vibes over all. Funky and tropical. A more western side to club de esquina. I like it a lot.
Its in my library immediately!
Spacemen 3
2/5
Some drone stuff
Quite nice landscapes, but very repetitive.
Nothing that I can call a good song so far.
I get why some people might find it nice to listen to, but I didn't find it yet for myself.
I actually like the esthetics of track 6, but they don't seem to go anywhere. I read that it is known as a stoner band, so maybe I need some inforsment here.
Track 7 pretty sweet though...
The sound is growing on me. Some great guitar loops on 8. Actually wow.
A much better end to the record. It sums it up into a good experience.
Steel between 2 and 3
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
This is a pretty special album.
I love Curtis' debut and was planning on listening to this one for a long time.
To be honest, I still think the debut has an edge on it, but not by much.
It is a very good record. Great band, awesome vocals. It made me want to see the film, and I will soon, I hope.
Cool one, indeed.
The United States Of America
3/5
Very surprised with the level.
Actually lovely.
I was preparing for a weird experimental 60's outfit for hippies. But, the music is actually pretty sweet.
Good atmosphere, especially for such early electronic sound. Very good vocals, great drumming, and some excellent songs!
Nice nice time
Louis Prima
3/5
A very entertaining little thing.
Very energetic, actually some moving performances buy the frontiers and the band.
Quit cool. I liket it
1 2 4 6 8- great
Soft Machine
5/5
First thing I must say is bothering me a little bit, is the sound. Not good quality.
Putting that aside, for the first few minutes I didn't care about it, but as it progressed I started to like. The band is tight and composition interesting.
Track 2 begins beautiful. Wow. Continues amazing as well. Flute, Saxophone, bass, keys, drums- all playing so well. Creating a sound landscape dark, deep and groovy. Incredible progression between parts and solos. Best long piece I've heard in a while.
Track 3.
Robert has a beautiful singing voice. I love the way the drums and keys company the vocals, added by the bass later.
7 min in, it's super special. Free composition but feels very rehersed, no doubt about that. Sweet transition at minute 13,30. Turning more and more experimental. Tape loops and effects. But still so intriguing.
Great one aswell.
Track 4.
Some interesting textures to begin with.
Wow, another awesome transition at minute 5. So cool. Great bass and drums under the keyboard solos.
In a way it's less exciting than the two previous ones, but I'm really sinking into it. "If you got that far" vibes.
Another loop section in the end. What a great way to finish.
I would surely listen again. I've been a bit hard the past few days, it's 4 1/2, but I'll give it a
Yes
3/5
Somehow I missed this record in my early prog rock days, I don't really know why.
My only and favorite Yes album is Close to the Edge, wich I love very much.
But I'm glad to listen to Fragile now.
Of course I know and love roundabout, it's a classic. But the rest of it is great as well.
I love jon Andersons vocals, always did, there is something special about them, although something about yes never clicked for me because the lyrics are so fucking lousy.
Nonetheless, this record is full of highs. I enjoyed it.
Gotan Project
2/5
I was expecting good stuff from this one.
I love tango.
I'm afraid so far it's not offering much.
Very slik lounge music. Good sound and texture, but not much more.
So far track 8 is my favorite.
It's ok, but don't see myself going back
Beatles
5/5
It's easy
I'll give a 5 for every Beatles album heare.
I now It's not considered a perfect album but it's perfect for me, as it is. And it contains some of the most best songs of all time.
The Flaming Lips
3/5
What a special album.
The best way to describe it- I wish I knew it since I was 10 years old.
For now I can say that I will need some more listens until I say for sure, but from first listen it's quit great.
I like the acoustic electronic mixture and the lyrics are thoughtful and mysterious.
The flow is great too.
It's a sweet album. I'll be going back to it, and in summer I think it will be a 4, but for now it's 3 1/5.
John Coltrane
4/5
An album for a lifetime and a very special kind of masterpiece.
To be honest, I always preferred other Coltrane classics, like giant steps my favorite things and so, but you can't deny the atmosphere this album brings.
It's always there to listen again
The Stone Roses
3/5
Classic British sound, some great songs.
3, 4, among the best I've heard lately.
5 great aswell, like the lead guitar.
I like the lead vocals. The instrumentals are sometimes a bit bland sadly.
Go directly to the 2009 remaster. Miles better.
Eric Clapton
4/5
Beautiful, laid back, bluesy and funky all together.
In some aspects I understand that this is the record that made Clapton a solo artist. I surly get why. I mean, even the cover for I shut the sheriff, which I prefer by much the original, sounds great in the context of this record.
It starts great with the blues on 1, great acoustic slide on 2, wonderful vocals and backing on 4 , and than the groovy Marley cover.
The best is saved for the End- really gorgeous ballads on 7 and 8, 8 especially on of Claptons best tracks.
9 and especially 10 are groovy highlights aswell.
Just a fun listen overall. Guitars and vocals from Eric are great from start to finish, and the collection of song is strong though the entire thing.
Nothing groundbreaking, but absolutely delightful.
A solid 4.
Talking Heads
4/5
This record is great.
I love talking heads, and I think this one is a bit slept on in their catalog.
Super funky, weird and always very very cool.
Maybe their best guitar record, bass lines from tina great and creative as usual.
Good one
2/5
I didn't like this one.
I actually enjoy Ornette Coleman's music. Free jazz is an all time classic and I genuinely casually listen to it.
But I don't get this one. Some of the hooks are nice, the Saxophones are quality players. But the mix doesn't make any sense. The magic of the original Coleman mixes it the space between the instrumentals that helps to listen to each of the individual lines that the musicians play.
Here non of this is present. The drums are so fucking loud... and the bass so quiet. Not enough space between the Saxophones, i just don't get it...
A bit of a let down. And why two alto saxes?? Ornette will always throw a trumpet or bass clarinet in the mix.
Disappointed with this one.
I'll had a point because Coleman's music here is showen love, and is played with passion.
The Clash
5/5
This is genuinely the ultimate punk rock album.
The best I've heard.
So vivid, groovy and powerful.
The songs are so good. The performances by everyone is so perfect.
What can I say.
Untouchable.
Merle Haggard
3/5
I've had a good time with this one.
Getting into country, I was interested about Merle Haggard.
He has a very good classic voice and good presence in the tunes.
The sound here is straight up country, in a good sense.
Played and sung very well. Good song.
Would go back to it.
Ps. Great selection lately from the generator.
Nightmares On Wax
1/5
So long... so repetitive...
I came in with doubts, was a bit hopeful in the beginning, and no just waiting for it to end.
Sorry for everyone involved, but I just don't find anything in here.
It is boring to me, but worse- it feels like no one made it. No human touch at all. So fucking sad when I think about it now.
Ps........
Just yesterday I wrote here that the streak of albums generated to me was good.
This one was a reminder why I quit my previous 50 album streak.
IT'S A WASTE OF TIME
I have music to listen to. Don't throw shit albums here. It's so fucking annoying.
I hope for better ones soon because I want to get to 100 before I take another brake.
Bob Dylan
5/5
That's what I'm talking about.
Greatness. Perfection.
It's a 5/5
It's a 10/10
Have a great day you all
Lenny Kravitz
3/5
There is something weird about Lenny Kravitz.
On one hand, I think his catalog is full of great songs, many bangers indeed.
He is a very talented musician, good singer, and mostly- a force for good in the world.
On the other hand, I never find myself wanting to listen to him willingly.
I mean, I would listen to a song now and then on the radio, and absolutely enjoy, but stream it.
This album, I think, isn't different.
But maybe I should change my ways, because putting this one this morning- made my morning better.
Highlights- 2, 5, 7, 9,10, 12
It's a 3.5
Janet Jackson
4/5
Such a wonderful album.
One that I've been waiting for an excuse to listen to.
And I'm so glad it came.
I love Janet's music. To me, Control and The Velvet Rope are absolutely great, with the latter being one of my favorite pop releases ever.
This album reaches this level.
It begins with incredible bangers 2, 6, 8.
16, is a song I don't enjoy much.
But I love Janet's delivery on the incredible ballads here- 11, and especially the ending of 17, 18, 19...
Tear jerking, huge sound. Vocals, instrumentals.
Pop heaven.
4.5
GZA
3/5
It feels like a good album.
It was quit a cool listen to me.
But I couldn't concentrate enough on the lyrics wich is always a problem for me in more classic hip hop releases.
There are less bangers on it, it's leaning to be a more thematic project (which I do appreciate), but I was not able to connect to the tunes on this first listen.
The vibe is good, though...
Would come back to it at some point, once I get my wu tang game going
Garbage
2/5
I don't know what to say about this one..
It's not bad as a listen but I just couldn't remember almost anything afterwards.
Maybe it's my fault, because I'm not really concentrated today.
But.. Milk is an undisputed banger
Everything But The Girl
3/5
A very nice record.
Great vocals, very good production.
Bass playing is great.
Very 80's in a good way.
Every song so far has nice point to it .
Favorite so far is 2, 5 especially 7. 9 11 good.
Good ballad ending with 12.
Overall a sweet and good time record. I liket it and it helped me relax a bit today.
Cheap Trick
1/5
It's ok, I guess.
A rock band playing solid rock solidly.
Track 7 is indeed the strongest of the bunch.
Nothing too special so far.
Can't imagine myself going back to it.
That's why it's a
Depeche Mode
4/5
Depeche mode is a special band.
They managed to build themselves a sound that is unique. Characterized by Dave Gahan's incredible lead vocals, martin gore's specific songwriting and vocal contribution and the dark yet groovy kind of rock and roll electronic production style.
It's all in this great record. I absolutely love this period in the bands discography. It's not a 5, because their 10/10 album will be the next one, but it is indeed a super quality record, of an experienced group with a signature sound and tons of cool and personality.
New Order
4/5
1 very cool, electronic and groovy.
2 very good song. Smiths a little bit.
I like a lot the 80 poppy sound on 4. Bass fucking great on that one. Just great song.
The record is not very consistent sound wise- an example for it is the difference between 6 and 7. But both add to the summer vibe of the project.
Last track fun aswell and groovy as hell.
What a great album.
Wasn't expecting that from New Order. Just fabulous. Going to rock this one a lot this summer.
The War On Drugs
4/5
Track one is one of the best long songs I've heard in a while. So moody, beautiful guitars, dreamy atmosphere.
Same vibe with 2-3.
Track 4 has more of a groovy touch, but still great relations between the instruments. An AMAZING SONG. Wow.
5 continues with the big guitar sound, great keyboard as well. Love the harmonica in the beginning.
Track 6 good, although more usual american rock style to it.
After a transition track track 8 begins with a great rithem, a bit Cure. Another good song.
9, beautiful classic rock ballad.
In reverse, one of the strongest songs in the record to finish it. Beautiful lyrics.
Another quality album. Great time.
T. Rex
2/5
I don't think it's the right time for this.
Not that's it bad. Listening experience is good overall, but just not for today.
4, 9, 10 highlights
11 has good guitars
13, good ending aswell.
It's not really sticking to me though.
Johnny Cash
5/5
OK, nice
It's a 10/10
Have a great day
(If you have a hard time feeling something lately, just go and listen to "Give my Love to Rose", thank me later)
Air
2/5
It sounds very nice. Very pretty, I think is the right word
First song is actually great.
After that some chill electronic tracks
7 is a nice one
8 is a beautiful acoustic track
As i listen, I realize that most of the tracks here explore the same harmony sequence, witch is indeed interesting, but can get a bit repetitive at points. (Personaly, it doesn't bother me).
I feel like the main thing i need here is context. And it makes sense, as it is a movie soundtrack, after all.
Iron Maiden
3/5
It's a great metal album
My second iron maiden from the generator.
I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed the debut, and here I'm less surprised but enjoyed it as well.
My biggest take on Maiden is the way that they all come out as great musicians without trying to show off to much (wich is my biggest problem in metal).
It's 3.5 and not 4 only because of my mindset while listening.
It's a part of the game.
A break coming soon
Dire Straits
3/5
I'm baffled with this one. Very much.
It used to be, at some point, one of my favorite albums in the world. I think i haven't heard it from beginning to end in 5 years.
Dire Straits as a hole is a band I'm baffled by.
With a heavy heart, (i think it's the toughest one to dicide yet).
My childhood said I have to give it a 4, my self today- not more than two. So, it will be a 3
The Temptations
5/5
So nostalgic!
I got the temptations' cloud nine in my very first day of the generator, and today, 100 (!) Days later, I get another one from them.
Can't wait to listen to it and get a small break, from which I will be back with more power!
Starts with two high energy soul tracks which sets the tone great for the massive track 3.
Papa was a rolling stone. A masterpiece of a track. From the writing, to the vibe, the progression and production, and the incredible vocal delivery. Wow.
Track 4 is the perfect continuation to the album. An absolute beautiful romantic song. Perfection from the vocals once again.
5, to continue this trend, just stunning.
6, I new before from Roberta Flack. It's a great song and this rendition is wonderful. Soft and smooth.
7 groovy and souly as hell
8 , wow, the funk. Just great. So much fun
What a great album. Like it even more than the previous one.
It starts a bit slow for me, a bit to usual soul, but the kicks an untouchable medley from track 3 to the end.
It's a very very very strong 4.5
You know what, I feel good today
Lets give it a
My Bloody Valentine
4/5
After a long break, We are back at it. Let's go.
I'm a big fan of Loveless, although it took me time to process it initially.
Coming to this one excited.
Track 1 absolutely magical
2 builds it up beautifully
3 has some surprising chord changes and great energy.
Track 4 is stunning and hypnotic. The most notable keys I've heard on a mbv song ever. Super sweet vocals as well.
5, 6- feature a more traditional rock sound, but executed great.
Got to point especially the vocals that are great on each track here.
Track 7 bring the energy back up. Guitar sounds goes crazy. Panning and mix as well. Awesome songs, highlight here for sure.
8 is a repetitive section but it has a nice effect in my opinion. Good energy.
The final song on this one is the most adventurous and complex listen on the album. I think it's a great reminder of what mbv are. Some Robert Wyatt keys in the end.
What an album...
Absolutely loved it. In a way, it's more easy then Loveless, but the depths are incredible and very warming.
A wintery record, I will come back to it for sure.
4.5
Gram Parsons
2/5
First two tracks are great country ballads.
I like a lot emmylou Harris' voice on them.
3 not exceptional.
4 beautiful as well, first to showcase a very solid vocal performance from Parsons.
5 is solid
6 is kinda fun live medley. Nice vibes all around.
Love hurts is a deseved classic for a good reason. Awesome song and version here.
8 a cool drunk song. But music wise it's not really thing.
End with another good ballad.
It's all nice and everything but not fully my thing I'm afraid.
I must admit I was just as impressed with emmylou's contribution to the album than with Parson's.
I think I'll call it a 2.5 because it was pleasant but I wouldn't go back to it i think
Miles Davis
5/5
Ye, it's kinda perfect.
This edition, only 32 minutes long, is a very ambitious project.
Traying and succeeding at capturing the essence of cool and prestige.
All performances are top notch, all track are beautifuly written and masterfully arranged by Gill Evans.
Mellow and easy listening but deep and complex nonetheless.
Highly recommend
Got to be a
Pixies
5/5
I didn't have time to listen to it today.
Lakly I know it very well. And absolutely love.
My Pixies era was short but intense. I used to listen to Surfer Rosa and Dulitle back to back every day.
Back then I wondered what in my opinion is the slightly superior album.
I think the debut is.
The rawness and energy are unmatched.
Super strong. An AMAZING start to an incredible career.
Thelonious Monk
3/5
Some of the oddest melodies I've heard lately on the title track.
The rithem that keeps changing during the solos for sure makes it super hard to improvise on.
But overall there's something compelling about it all.
Bouncy track 2, fantastic drums by Max Roach.
Monk's piano style is so unique. It always seems like his solos shouldn't work but they work so well. He's shining on this track. Great solo from Rollins on the tenor sax as well.
Track 3 Nice and weird melody followed by a beautiful solo from Rollins. What a master player he is.
I'm not sure the piano/Celeste combo is the best idea, but it gives another interesting sound to the record..
I think it's my favorite on this one so far.
4 is a great solo piano track that I liked a lot. Monk is a legend for a good reason. His piano style is futuristic and free yet very grounded in gospel, which gives it such a prestige sound.
Track five is smooth and kind of classic. A decent closer for the record. Once again, Roach and sonny Rollins- amazing players.
A very nice interesting record.
Was a good listen overall yet not remarkable.
Sinead O'Connor
3/5
Tough First track. But very strong.
Liked track 2. Especially the combination between the beat and the celtic tones towards the end.
3 is more quiet and less exiting but still has great vocal moments from sinead.
4 has a classic rock style.
5 is political poetic and acoustic. Quit a special song.
Nothing compared to you needs no introduction.
I'll just say that it is the best version by a mile. Sinead's ability to express herself vocaly shines here.
Track 7 is another classic rock
8 is more of a ballad. Both nice songs. 8 better.
I like a lot the progression on song 9. Great track.
A strong a capella to seal it. Very strong.
It's an interesting album.
I have to respect Sinead for the vision and courage in making a very "uncomunicative" album. It really works most of the time.
I have to put some thought in ranking it.
Elvis Presley
4/5
Yes! Some Elvis finally!
Starts with great energy and vocals from the king. Love the instrumentation and vocals.
Fire vocals on track 2 aswell. No one does quit like Elvis.
3 and than 4 are great ballads. 4 is a very dramatic and dark, and lovely. Great track.
5, 6 showcases Elvis as the great country interpreter he is, often outshine by he's rocknroll stardom.
A bluesy number to kick on the second half. Nice.
8 is gorgeous, my favorite so far. A perfect rendition to a beautiful song.
9 another good vocal performance. Seems like a pattern I'm spotting, I guess...
Nice choir on track 10.
This great album finishes with to super strong classics.
Any day now and In the Ghetto. Amazing.
The high vocals in the bridge of any day now gives me chills every time.
The closer is perfect as well.
What an album, man. Just stunning.
4.5
John Lee Hooker
2/5
7 tracks in and it's not terrible
But not existing at all imo.
I'll not be coming back to it
But it's more a 2 than a
Slipknot
2/5
Well, it's metal. I need to address it somehow...
Track 3 is very poppy and nice.
2, more of a frightening one.
4. Feels a bit like a rock some with metal esthetics. It's actually very nice and rhymicly pleasing.
5. You can feel 2008 in this one. Not sure if in a good way.
It's all very epic, but not touching.
6. Heavy again. Drums going crazy.
Cool song. 7 with some different vocals, but less of a good song.
8 is better. A bit of a 90's grunge throwback.
9 very aggressive. Does it hurt him to sing like that?
Nice riff anyway.
10.coolest song on the album so far.
Super nice riffs and good vocals and hooks
Snuff is actually very touching. A cheesy rock ballad, but very effective. 2008 all the way.
12. All power towards the end. Great guitars.
Well, I know metal is not my thing, and this is definitely not one of the places to begin, but considering all that I think it's fine.
2.4
Lou Reed
4/5
Transformer was my first Lou experience.
Before velvet, Before anything else.
I guess it's a norm for many, as it includes his most well known songs.
But it does more than contain singles.
It deliveres a very rounded and well made album experience that I think is a great asset in one's discography.
Ronson and Bowie's production is great and clean. And lou's vocals are incredible.
The versatility is also impressive. Great rock tracks 1, 4, 8, 10 the theatrical numbers 2, 5, 9, 11, and no one can deny the power of ballads like perfect day and satellite of love.
(I have to ad that i adore Bowie's backing vocals when ever they show up!)
Overall, it's a great listen and an undisputed classic.
Through the years, I find myself going back more to lou's more out there material (BERLIN), But this one is just great.
A high 4
Muddy Waters
3/5
Super cool first song.
The band is playing great. The drum sound is incredible for 1960!.
Muddy has a great presence and sounds good. Not over the top which can be tough some time on blues record. You can hear that clearly on hoochie coochie man.
Track 3- the band is just awesome. Drums, piano and harmonica as leading instruments interplaying with Muddy's guitar. Great joy.
Good guitars on four.
Track 5 is a less impressive one.
Good energy and playing no 6 and 7.
On 7 drums incredible again. Wow.
9 as the closer, bluesy as hell. And great. Piano is amazing.
It deserves to be here. Dropped me back in time, and the music has many qualities
3.5
Christina Aguilera
2/5
It's a long one. Let's get started.
Disc 1:
It's interesting.
Four songs in, the production is good, and definitely intentional. I appreciate that for pop record.
Something about the vocal style, I try to think how I feel about it.
5 is COOL. Great production and singing. Very very good song. Appreciate.
Nice bridge on 7, which is a good song.
But the vocals...
A break.
Let's continue
8 has very nice textures
9 and highlight as well. Interesting production and great group vocals.
Nice synth sounds on 10
11, 12, more rhymic, less to my liking.
13. A slick and sweet closer for this part of the album
Disc 2:
1. What ls going on??
2. A bit messy. Vocal to messed up with. Unclear musical direction.
3. I don't really know what to say. Not my thing...
4. Better. It's still a weird direction musicly in combination with the vocal production.
Just not flattering for her in my opinion.
5. I'm not sure if it makes any sense. It just sounds artificial.
HURT just seems to fit to her style so much more. Although it's not my favorite 2000's pop ballad (beautiful is better) it's a very solid song. Good vocal performance.
7, once again, has that 'old' style. It's a bit silly, I don't like it. Annoying.
8 is fine.
9 not.
This entire second Disc is a tragedy.
I think that the first disk is a very, ever a very very good pop project.
Intentionally produced, good songwriting and great pace. Many songs there- I can see myself going back to.
My concern here, I'm afraid, is Christina's vocal choices. Here over the top style is impressive, I guess, but it doesn't fit many of the songs.
It's a thing about 2000's pop, many suffer from it in that era, but something about this singer is just extra.
If in the first Disc it's a manageable problem for me, in the second one it's just ridiculous.
Most of the songs there are just, bad...
And it concluded my listening experience in a very bad way.
The first Disc could easily get a 3.5 to a 4 from me, but the second has to push it down to a - 2.
Tricky
4/5
Wanted to hear this one for a long time.
First track, Super cool beat. Setting the tone for a dark one. The vocals are special too.
Track 2 very weird production but beautiful in a way. Bjork-like vocal melody.
3 kind of a rock track. Love the rapping.
4. Feature a great sample. Trickys voice is heard loud for the first time.
Great track.
5 beautiful vocals. What a strong song. Very effective. Love the percussion and beat.
6. A long and mellow one. Kind of bluesy.
Back to business on 7 which is produced beautifully. Amazing sound. The combination between acoustic and electronic sound is so good.
Some michael jackson sample on 8? A groovy one.
Track 9 feature cool tricky hooks. 10 is more of a reggae tune. Liked it.
11 is kind of an ambient track, but it works great. Maybe just a bit too long.
Feed me. The closer is one of the best tracks on it.
An excellent experience with this one.
It's very valid
Blondie
3/5
What a nice one!
Great guitar work, very distinct.
Superb drumming
3 has beautiful singing
4 a great power ballad. With a very cool transition rhymicly towards the end.
Pretty Baby is cool as well. Nice group vocals.
11:59 is great. Love vocal and keyboard lines. Bass, guitar, and especially drums sound great as usual.
Love the chorus on 8
9 is sweet. Good vocals from Harry.
Heart of Glass is a classic for a very good reason.
It's kind of ideal as a rock single from that era. The song that you are always happy when it's on the radio. Addictive tune.
Just go away is a nice closer. Good blend between guitar and voice.
A very solid rock album with some pretty significant highlights.
Good addition here.
Syd Barrett
4/5
I love this album so much.
Such a special musical moment.
Syd was a genius and an original that we got for too short time, and this record feels like a gift from another world.
He has a very special kind of weird charisma that shines on every intimate track on this one.
As a composer, sure, he was weird, but also had a great pop instinct. For example, octopus is such a hit.
It's wonderful
Small Faces
2/5
Song 2 is quit beautiful.
The mix here is kind of crazy.
3 is nice as well
4 not very clear to me.
Not silly enough to be funny and not interesting enough to be musicly good. Sorry.
5 better. A nice rock song.
I liked Lazy Sunday a lot! A very effective little weird one.
The happiness sun suite has many beautiful moments in my opinion.
It's a weird thing because I wasn't mad while it was on but I'm a bit happy that it's over.
I wanted to like this one more
But i can't give it more than a
Kings of Leon
2/5
2 song in- classic southern rock. Nice, band sounds good. But a pretty standard.
3, not my favorite stuff. Vocals a bit awkward.
Track 4 is nicer. Cool bass. A bit more interesting progression.
5, na, not for me today
6, it's a strokes rip off but that's why it's the best here so far.
Waiting for more highlights. I guess 9 is one. Better, but not significantly.
12 the hidden track is actually nice.
What can I say...
I'm not going back to this one soon, but it's not unlistenuble
Good luck to the band.
It's a 2, but barely
5/5
Some Album are greater than the songs the are made of- the total listen experience sends them to another level.
Some are all the way around- the songs inside are awesome but the entire thing doesn't make sense.
This one is the rare example of an album that does both.
It an amazing experience as a hole but the songs are so great they work as amazing pieces each by itself.
I can't forget my listening to this for the first time when I was 12 years old. And I truly believe 12 years old children all around the world will keep having this experience for the entire foreseeable future.
And ye, it's a perfect
Nina Simone
5/5
The first song is a nice opener, but after It appears a series of absolute masterpieces.
2 just hit me in the face. Incredibly powerful song .
3 is an incredibly beautiful love song, the piano liks are phenomenal.
Lilac wine is dark and powerful.
5 is another beautiful ballad, sung so gently by Nina.
6 is another rhymic one, even better than 1.
7 has this different Latin feel on it. A lighter moments in the Playlist.
Wild is the Wind.
Something about this moment in time, when nina sung this one, while playing some of the most beautiful background piano i heard in my life, just amazes me. Every single time.
Just a remarkable musical moment.
And it doesn't end there- 9 is just as good.
Ridiculous.
10 begins with some lovely piano and Nina's perfect voice. Another great tune.
Piano Is mesmerizing.
Such an incredible record.
I wonder if I should give this one a big big score. Maybe I should have.
But I still feel it has a weeker first and last song. Still great ones but count this 4 as a 4.9999999999
Next morning- you know what? I don't care
Cornershop
3/5
Lets go go go !
Track 1: some great textures. Interesting beat and lyrics.
Track 2 is a banger indeed. A legitimate hit.
Super cool song.
3 another playful beat. Clumsy but nice. Great Indian touch.
Track 4: Indian interlude
5 another Indian mix. Not as effective for me. Nice but that's it
6 a bit out of place, but a good song.
7 not sencesional at all.
Track 8- something nice about that one. Love Allen ginsberg voice. But a rough section of the record.
9 good interlude
10 kinda cute kinda dumb. A fine listen but not incredible
Track 11- Paula who joins in this track has a beautiful singing voice. Maybe the best writen song on the album. A bit of a 'the blue mask ' lou reed vibe. A lovely lovely one.
12: very smokey. Too much so. Nice but not inspiring. Like most 'beat' leaning tracks here. Glad it's done. Don't need to hear this one again.
Track 13: was expecting for this one on the track list, but it didn't deliver much. Cool a bit lazy production and Dull rapping.
14- like 12. boring.
Last one is a Norwegian Wood cover. One of my favorite songs of all time.
A very nice Indian version. The song remains beautiful.
Ending on a high note!
This album is a mess, I'm afraid.
Was hoping for better to start the challenge again
But not amazing
Still a fun listen overall
So
The Charlatans
4/5
Great britpop opener. A very cool track.
Very nice sound. The guitar and bass especially sound great.
The vocalist has a Gallagheruesqe tone, which I like.
Song 2 has great guitar parts.
4 is a very strong song. Banger.
5 is a great acoustic ballad.
It's 3 1/5 but I'm generous today
Great voice and lovely guitar work.
7, a bit uninspired instrumental track.
Track 8 brings back high energy. But the song is not brilliant.
9 nice
10- very nice!
Another instrumantal to finish the record.
What can I say, I enjoyed this one!
A good, consistent rock album. All players do good work. Should be on here.
Nice indeed.
The Band
5/5
It's a masterpiece
A country rock classic in every sense of the way.
Some massive songs, some quiet jams. Playful and jammy instrumentation and three iconic vocalist who are giving it all.
R. I. P Manuel Danko and Helm.
Adding to that Robertson writing which shines here, and every single time Hudson touches any instrument, what can you say..
What an incredible record
Can't believe I didn't listen to the entire thing earlier.
It's gotta be a strong fat 5
Red Hot Chili Peppers
2/5
Let's think about it objectively.
First two tracks are classic rhcp rithemic songs. 1 better than two.
Scar tissue is a very good song. Great guitar work. Slide especially.
4 is nice but mah,
5 not my cup of tea at all. The blueprint of why I don't adore this band.
Californication is a good but overplayed banger. For me personally it's a bit flavorless. Drum and bass fantastic though...
Track 7 not for me.
Porcelain surprised me! A very nice ballad.
Nice vocals.
8 fine.
9 not so fine.
11 much better. Some variation of quiet loud. Good song.
Savior much more interesting. Not necessarily my thing but nicer than most.
13 meh
Impressive bass from flea on 14
At least the closer is very very nice.
It's tricky to evaluate record by a band that I don't really enjoy.
It seems to me like this music was designed to make people happy in any way possible, but it lucks motivation and justification other than that.
It's music trying to be cool, and by doing so ruining the chance of being just that.
In my experience, most RHCP fans don't stay fans after growing as listeners. Because the void behind the "cool" attitude cannot really hold you in... for long.
(And by the way this album is too long).
After saying all that I'll add that it's not a *bad* album. But. It's not good. Middle of the road music. Sad.
Alright
It's a 2.5
I think it's fair.
Afrika Bambaataa
3/5
The beat on track one is really nice for the period. Rapping is energetic and dinemic.
Nice synth lines. Good track.
Nice production on track 2 aswell!
Super cool and linear. Great panning for headphones. Another strong start for this track. Yes yes
It's great.
3 is less impressive in my opinion.
Fine and a bit too long.
4 is shorter and nicer. Love the synth bass towards the end.
Nice hook in track 5. And the guitar solo adds to the experience.
The vocal sample on the beginning of 6 is cool, but the rest of the track is only fine.
Very cool bass and production and energy on the closing track. A good way to seal the deal.
It's a record that absolutely should be here.
It might not be consistent front to back But it's a great example for early hip hop. And you can't deny the bangers.
So it's a solid 3.4. :-)
Peter Tosh
3/5
2 is fantastic
4 incredible aswell.
5 beautiful indeed.
8 another highlight.
The closer great also.
What a lovely reggae record!
Some great highlights but the entire listen is solid and fun.
I think it's a 3
But a high 3, like 3.8
Elton John
4/5
For an extended period of the 70's, Elton John's mix-cutting tenor voice was one of the greatest powers of popular music.
This record shows it without a doubt.
The hits here are incredible. The just hit different.
Weather it's the touching Candle in the Wind or the glorious Saturday Night and Benny. They all become benchmarks of a hit pop-rock record, and rightly so.
They are all so well written, performed and produced.
Above all- the title song. In my opinion, one of the greatest melodies in popular song. Period.
But it's a long album, and there's a necessity for the dip cut to go hurd as well. And most do.
5 6 8 9 10 12 15 17 all great songs.
In the Elton spectrum of rocknroll-pop-country most of them lean on the rock-pop side but the folks elements are present.
It's hard to say, but it might be a little bit to long.
It doesn't matter anyway... because once you reach the second half (which is a test for most double album) you just want to listen more and more.
It's all just a tour de force of a very talented and enthusiastic musician and preformer who, at the time, could do whatever he wanted.
It's a very very solid 4.6
The Lemonheads
2/5
3 is nice enough
4 nice.
5 aswell but a bit repetitive
9 my favorite so far
10 my least favorite so far
Unfortunately
It's not great
Not at all
Not so nice to say, but I completely forgot about it once it was over.
But it's not offensive in any way...
It's a flat
Sisters Of Mercy
4/5
A cool first song.
Very cool even. Dark and moody and groovy.
Dominion!
I like track 2 as well. It's spooky and the vocals are so cool. Synths go hard.
3 nice aswell
1959 is a very special ballad with some interesting chord changes.
Beautiful song.
5 is a long strong progressing tune. Love the choir on it. Kind of less dark and more gospel.
Just keeps delivering
Great flood ii. Flood!
7 is still quit good, but maybe the weakest one.
Another moody one to close it.
What a surprise!
Liked it very much!
Keeping my generous vibes, I think it deserves a 4
The Velvet Underground
5/5
Wow
What a classic.
This album is ridiculously good. And once you get it, you can't go back. It's just another world.
From the stunning beauty of Sunday Morning, to the addictive blues of My Man.
Nico's enchanted voice on femme fatal and the black magic of Venus in Furs. Love Lou's singing on it, with John's viola. Wow.
Run run run features some of the nastiest guitars on tape. A massive garage sound.
All Tomorrow's Parties with Nico singing again, is majestic and otherworldly with the piano vamp and eastern guitar. One of the best songs ever.
Another one quit incredible comes next- Heroin. Man, just listen to it. I think this is the birth of the Lou Reed we know and love. The lyrics, the attitude, the band dinemics, and the viola that kills my soul. In the best way possible.
There she goes lightens the mood in a breezy super cool tune the backing vocals and guitar tone sounds like a crappy version of the beach boys, you gotta love it.
Like all Nico's songs here, I'll be your mirror is incredible and dreamy. This album is unbelievable.
The Black Angel's Death Song is heartwarming. Kind of Dylanesque but unique.
The closing European Son captures the jammy and free essence of The Velvet Underground. It's a 7 minute long trans and it's beautiful.
I think you get it
It's a 5
A 10/10
And I'm so happy I had the experience of listening to it as a teenager
Herbie Hancock
4/5
Getting some fire stuff here.
This record was very important to me growing up.
It's very jazzy, precise and well crafted, but it has that playfulness in it that encounters you as a young adult.
Chameleon is a classic track that I think described funk for many new listeners.
Man, you can't argue with that synth bass.
Than Watermelon Man, a rerecording of a Herbie classic. So much fun, and lightness.
Love Herbie's electric piano on both tracks. And the relations between the synth and electric bass.
It all concludes a super funky first side to the album.
In my opinion, the real magic appears on the second half .
Sly is a slick and velvety tune. Incredible playing from the band . Misty yet still funky as hell atmosphere.
Just a magnificent combination.
Vien Melter is the most free track on the record, which is a great decision.
It features beautiful sax and great synth pads from Herbie. Electric piano incredible as always on this one. Maybe, because of it's uniqueness, my favorite track on the record.
Overall, a magnificent listen.
Still sounds modern after so many years, it explains why it work well on teens.
It's not essential to me as it was in my youth, but still a quality album. Absolutely.
4.4.
Janis Joplin
3/5
It's a really really good album.
Sounds incredible.
Janis' singing is incredible. The band plays fantastic. Also great great songs on it!
Some favorite non hits are Half moon and trust me, the opening and closing songs.
Not in the mindset to write much more now, but it's a really good one.
Don't be mad at me,
It's a 3 but a very high one! Like 3.7,8
Crowded House
3/5
Three songs in, three good songs.
Nothing revolutionary but good songwriting and playing. 2 I especially liked. 5 is another undeniable banger.
6 good
7 nice ballad
9 not the strongest.
10 much nices ballad
11 lovely vocals (generally good vocals on the record, Neil Finn's tome is very nice).
12 not essential.
13 is a highlight.
14 aswell. Beautiful song.
I agree with some reviews here that it's not a very exiting one, but I quit liked it . The songwriting is good, vocals are good, instrumentation also
I'd say that it gave me appetite for more neil Finn project and that there is a place for this mellower yet quality albums on here.
It's a 3.5
Ray Charles
5/5
It's pretty remarkable.
The sound is fantastic, first of all.
Ray Charles as a vocalist is a force of nature. For me, he has become a symbol and and an example- you know Richard Emanuel, he has a Ray quality in him.
I think the country sound really suits him well. Especially when you consider the many styles captured here.
He's shifting effortlessly between bangers and ballads, his soft and powerful moment are incredible at the same level. The beauty and perfection of his voice is outstanding, while being very emotional and human at the same time.
Other elements are just as strong. The arrangements and playing is fantastic. Very lively. The chorus vocals are, at the right moment, simply divine.
Bless you king Ray, you can make a non believer like me pray!
I feel like a 5 today.
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
4/5
Let me first say that the Album Cover GREAT. (you eat first with your eyes).
First track is very punky in nature, unexpected for a supposed synth pop album.
The track list starts in my opinion in track 2 which is sweet, very sweet.
Track 3 is even more sweet. Absolutely lovely.
4- I have a soft spot for lengthy dark electronic tracks. Really reminded me brian Eno stuff, Bowie and solos, from the previous decade. Great.
Joan Of Arc is a very British song, in a good way! Maybe didn't touch me as other on here but still quit a banger.
No 6 is British aswell, but more impact full in my opinion. Love the drums on it, and the naive synth lines.
The title track is an abstract instrumental. And a good one for what it is.
Georgia is a song I feel like I know. Maybe not because I knew it before but because it's so poppy and awesome. One of my favorites here.
Closing track dark and great as it should be.piano goes hard.
What can I say, great picks the last few days. Enjoyed this one so much and I think I'll keep listening to it.
It another very strong 4.
Michael Jackson
4/5
What wasn't said yet about this one... what can I ad...
Probably nothing, so I'll just say I love it.
I know, Of the Wall might be funkier, and bad might be sharper, but there never was and will never be a pop record like Thriller.
Timeless sound, incredible songs, masterful production and perfect execution.
Long live MJ's legacy.
After saying all that- my integrity can't give it a 5. It's a very, very high 4
The Doors
2/5
First track is very hard hitting. Nice.
Track 2 the bass sounds great, but the doors don't have a bass player...
Third song is a decent blues track. Good slide guitars, but I've heard some better blues in my life.
Four aswell. Not crazy about the heavy blues influence here. I my opinion the Doors advantage is not in being a blues band.
L.A woman and L'america aren't my favorite stuff but they have much more character.
I think track 7 is my favorite so far. Lush instrumentation, more interesting harmony content. A truly beautiful song.
8 and 9, although played fine enough, are not my cup of tea. Once again a bit of flavorless blues tracks. Meh.
Riders On the Storms is an example of what the doors can be when they're into it really. Such a masteful dark, moody enchanted song. Great playing as always, but now with the write context.
This is not a record for me. Although the highlights are high (especially 7 and the closer of course) it's not a fun listen front to back .
That's why it's, unfortunately, a 2. Maybe 2.3-4.
Dagmar Krause
3/5
It's not terrible so far. Some interesting musical moments and lyrics of course.
But it's not great. A bit worried. Only 9 minutes in a hour long record.
I do enjoy her voice quit a bit i must say.
5 and 7 my favorite so far.
11 strong as well.
First part is behind. Will come back later
Okay I'm back.
A weird German song to start the second half.
It's hard to explain but this songs have an effect on you.
Mother's Hands is special.
The wise woman special as well.
The rat man is crazy.
This generator gives one the opportunity to listen to albums here would never hear about otherwise, for sure not listen to otherwise, and perhaps never listen to again.
I was very skeptical about this one
But it deserves a 2.5.
It surprised me, made me think, and thrilled me almost all the way through.
But I don't think I'm coming back to it soon;-). So it's 2.5 but a special one. Because I'm going to give it a 3. That's what I want to do and it's my life.
Skepta
1/5
Hip hop was a genre that I hated as a child.
I was a rock kid, later even prog kid I'm afraid. A little snob for lack of better words.
It took me a few years to admit I like some hip hop song around and even more to accept it as the glorious art form it is.
Since than some of my favorite albums of all times have been hip hop record, and I am a big fan and admirer of the greats.
This album is so, so, so incredibly bad.
The beats are unimaginative, production is so lame and sad. I couldn't find even one memorable hook, as hard as they try nothing sticks (which makes it even sadder).
Lyrics are laughable. Not in a good way. They're fucking bad.
Not funny, not clever. Just bad.
In the end I couldn't believe I listen to the entire thing. It made me question the genre itself. Wow.
There could be no justification for it being one this list. And any awards it got have me astounded. Beating Radiohead's AMSP and Bowie's Blackstar? No fucking way.
That was one of the worst so far.
0. Impossible, so...
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
Wow
That one hits hard.
Such a good album. Can't believe it's 35 years old.
The production is so fresh, intelligent and sophisticated but fun as at can be.
The rapping is fabulous. Witty and playful.
This is how it's done.
I don't have a in depth review on every song because I listened to it all the way through
I'll say that I love their sophomore album deeply (I guess It's will show up at some point) and this listen just made me admire Tribe even more.
It's such a great start to an incredible career that I can't wait to dive into in It's entirety.
It's a beautiful, bangery 4.6.
Big Brother & The Holding Company
3/5
A second Jenis Joplin related album for this week. Let's check this one.
First track is more of a jammy kind of intro. Janis sounds so young in innocent here it made me shiver a bit. A high energy one with group vocals and solos to start.
Second song is energetic and preformed very well.
This version of summertime is what made fall in love with Janis when I was about 14 years old. Her voice is unbelievable here. And the guitar work... priceless.
Piece of my heart is a classic rock classic for a good reason. It's a great song.
Janis sounds amazing singing the blues on track 5. I actually really liked how basic it is. Only piano, vocals and a saloon atmosphere. Nice.
6 Most psychedelic one for sure. Liked it
very much. Just super cool vibe and nice vocals.
I was worried that the last track will be to long, but it turned out to be one of the best ine the entire thing. Just massive blues performance from Janis and the band.
What a great one!
Enjoyed it more than pearl I think. The rawness and singing is just great.
Better than pearl but still a high
Faith No More
2/5
First track is very energetic. The bass is great. Dominant drums aswell.
Singing caught me of guard a little bit. Still figuring out if i like it.
Second track Epic is kind of a metal rap tune. I'm going to say it now, so there will no surprises- I don't think it's the genre for me. Guitars sound good though, and I liked the piano outro.
5 songs in and I'm enjoying. Not suffering per se but not enjoying. So dramatic. The band is better than decent, but the singing style is tough for me.
It might be someone's favorite thing. But I unfortunately can't follow this one. I really feel like there's something good content on here, but I can't get through the vocals. Too American. What we call nowadays- cringe.
9 is an instrumental which I hoped would be better. But replacing the embarrassing vocals, are some questionable keyboards.
I don't think I'll continue for the 2 CD track.
What can I say... I expected so much more from this. But it's just not for me. But more so, Even if it was for me, I don't find anything special or memorable about it. But maybe I am the problem.
It's a flat disappointing 2.
Baaba Maal
2/5
Three songs in, it's such a special listen.
Hypnotic.
Relations between the guitars are fantastic, laying a bed for the vocal to do it's own magic.
It's not a normal listen in any way. But I think it's worth your time. Just don't hurry, don't rush. And Let it do what it does to you.
Today I'm staying at Luang Prabang, watching the Mekong river flow, and listening to it for the first.
It has an effect, I can tell you that.
But is it something I see myself going back to often? No...
It's a bit too long aswell. Still special.
2.8
Arcade Fire
3/5
I'm so sorry I'm a bit out of focus to give this one a real review. But I'll try my best.
I kinda like the production here, it's nice and not to dense like their debut. I like.
Their first and famous album is one I liked at first listen but didn't come back to much. It didn't stick with me. At least not till today. Though the bangers there are undisputed.
I feel like this one is a bit more balanced.
What can I say, the energy of this band is very specific, I like it here. And I feel like the songs are good as well.
Again, I'm not in my best form today. But this is how it works.
It's quite nice. Windowsill for example, great explosive song. Guitars all through and chorus at the end are great.
As it goes I like it even more. No Cars Go have such amazing textures.
The lost song is good and powerful too, but I feel like the mix is buring the instruments a bit here. It's a bit of a shame.
I think I liked it quit a bit .especially songs 9 and 10 which are very very special.
Unfortunately I'm not focused enough but it's still a decent and deserving 3.
Nitin Sawhney
2/5
So far the sampling on track 3 are the most interesting. Combination of Indian and Latin tones. Nice groove.
First two tracks are more mild in tone. Trip hopi but maybe a bit to clean for me.
Tides has some very nice piano.
Nadia is a strong one that I know previously from an amazing rendition of Jeff Beck.
Immigrant is nice but a bit to long. Which I feel like like it's something that's going to affect the scoring of this.
8 is not good, and too long.
I'm happy it's over.
Not a great one.
Some very good highlight on the first half but overall, too long and not inspired enough.
Not something that I'm going back to.
But the positives are there
So it's a flat 2.
The Allman Brothers Band
4/5
This thing is very special.
A band that can create such an accurate force is something you don't find every day.
Every singe song is performed perfectly. Almost not human like.
But very human. The passion is there. The energy. The joy. The healthy competition between blues players. Everything is there. But the musicians are just simply incredible.
The vocals and keyboard base of Greg Allman, the bass which is not flashy but darn impressive. The guitars, oh man... unbelievable. Allman and Baits just keep on going. Duane with his unreal slide playing. So clean, so soulful. And Dicky with his melodies. Such a gifted guitar player and musician.
I love the double drumming. Absolutely love it. I come to realize it's a feature I enjoy very much in music played live. It give the rithem a depth that can't be achieved otherwise.
What a wonderful thing, really.
Long but worth every minute.
A very very very high 4.
Pink Floyd
5/5
I needed a break, that's nice.
A 5
See you tomorrow.
I feel like anything that can be added was said in my review for the wall.
This one is not different.
This is an undisputed classic (it shouldn't be anyway) and I believe that for generations to come it will keep blowing up kids minds, just like it did for me.
The Velvet Underground
4/5
Let's, for once, start with the end-
Sister Ray. Man, sister ray.
One of the most mind blowing pieces of shit I've ever heard.
It's equally painfully tough and beautiful.
The guitars, the repetitive drumming and above all the unbelievable organ tone. Wow.
Incredible.
This entire record leads to this highlight and the first 23 minutes feel more like an introduction. But a pretty great introduction, to be honest.
My experience listening to this album was great.
I don't have the emotional attachment to it like I have for the debut, but it's definitely a step forward. Less in regards to songwriting and more the soundscape and atmosphere.
A 4.
George Harrison
4/5
Wow, where can I start with this one...
It's one massive album with a lot of history to cover, but I'll leave it for everyone to discover.
I think it's a masterpiece. I really do. But masterpieces can be flawed some time while still being masterpieces.
The entire thing is a statement. It's a triple album- a statement. But the real body here is the "basic" double album. In my opinion not a single song there is bad, and maybe only one (the isn't it a pitty 2) could be excluded or shortened. For that it already qualifies as a masterpiece.
The songs themselves- amazing. Beautiful. The bangers and ballads alike.
The performances- George never sounded so go. His vocals are absolutely phenomenal.
Now, production. It's beautiful as well at times. Phil Spector is a massive musician, no doubt about that. This style of huge production is also another statement, I believe.
Unfortunately, and I really mean it, it doesn't have the best affect on the songs themselves. And it makes the listening experience- a task. (It can also be a good thing sometimes, that's why it's still a masterpiece. I've had the same experience with Rosalia's LUX lately.)
The double album, for me, is something I'll keep coming back to for the rest of my life. It means a lot.
Let's ignore the third LP, right?
No need for much explanation. (I appreciate jam albums when they're good. This one isn't)
I would love to ignore the flawes and give it a 5, but in this scenario the album is too big for the flawes to be small enough.
An amazing, life changing, 4.5
Prefab Sprout
5/5
That is such a great one.
What a wonderful edition to this list.
Slik, poppy, sophisticated.
I feel the Elvis Costello of it
Every time another surprising turn to the harmony and melody. Rithem is COOL.
Lovely.
Very much an 80's album. In the best way.
It's not just a keeper but probably
A
5
Air
3/5
It's good music, man...
It can maybe too mellow for some, but works great for me.
Lovely keys textures, really warm and analog. Makes this electronic music has much more heart.
Towards the end it might get a bit repetitive but beautiful moment appear throughout the entire thing.
It's a high high 3
The Beau Brummels
4/5
First song absolutely beautiful. Guitar layers and vocals are lovely. Strong hook aswell.
2 more chamber poppy. Still very nice.
3 have a darker tone. Like it aswell. A bit Scott Walkery. Not the voice, but composition.
I really like the fantasy thing going on here. 4 has great banjo.
Magic hollow- it does sound like magic.
Incredible instrumentation, again. Beautiful arrangement. Especially harpsichord and accordion.
10 is another special one. Some eastern sounds.
Finishing with a lighter country tune maybe wouldn't be my choice, but an okay one nonetheless.
Adding to the arrangements and sounds lyrics are interesting aswell. Which adds a lot.
Discovering ones and one s again that late 60's west coast was a fascinating time. Many curious ideas, and amazing experienced session musicians to execute them.
Really liked this one!
Felt like back in 67.
It s a 4 mates.
Miles Davis
5/5
Wow
You're making it harder for me with all this incredible albums.
I want to look like a tougher guy. Like that I can't, because this record absolutely melts me...
It's a masterpiece. Enough people wrote it before me, so I don't need to elaborate.
Enjoy another 5.
Missy Elliott
2/5
There is a certain thing about most hip hop production of this era... that I can't get behind
Timbaland is considered a great producer for some reason. I don't really get it. All feels so lifeless.
Missy is a fine rapper, maybe better than fine. But it just doesn't do anything for me, mates.
You know what, slowly I'm defrosting a little. Still not my thing, but some of some songs there are not as bad.
Won't listen to it again, though.
I don't know if I should give it a 2 or just a 1.
I gave the last Missy album here a 2. This one is not worse.. so.
Fairport Convention
3/5
First song really is a banger.
Second more slow and folksy. Still pretty beautiful.
Loved the third track
Great guitar violin solo at the end there.
Farewell Farewell is a beautiful song with great arrangement.
The deserted is less of a favorite but still fine and good.
6 is really pouges 15 years before. I like it. Yes, I do.
Tam lin is very traditional with new arrangement.
The closer is one of the strongest on the record. A lovely song.
It's a high 3
Very very nice album.
Moby
2/5
Three songs in, there's something to it, what can I say.
But there's a 2000's flavor to it, if you get what I mean. Something CD. It's actually tough to describe it. Mainly other piano style keys and drums.
3, 4 are bangers though.
5 not loving the rock elements.
6 better
7 worse.
8 is not bad but this album is getting long...
9 is embarrassingly 2000's.
11 has a nice sample, but many elements here just blend into each other now.
Am I wrong to think that maybe this one wasn't meant to be listen to all in one time.
13 boring. Hope something changes soon. Because I still have like 20 minutes to it.
14 is an highlight. Glad it came.
16 is good.
I'm very happy to say the last song is here.
It all wasn't too bad, but not to good.
Unfortunately it doesn't deserve more that a 2. The consistency of excitement isn't there. Bangers are there, but not enough, and because of it's length it makes the experience listening to it all a bit too much.
But I have to appreciate the specific style it has. Not underestimating that.
Have a great day.
Jean-Michel Jarre
5/5
I was shocked of how good that was.
I'll give it another listen soon and write more about it later.
Just beautiful in my opinion.
I was expecting a pre-developed electronic shit from the 70's, and got more of what I can describe as a symphonic experience.
The analog synths feel so alive.
I. Is like a declaration. Take your time. It's going to be a ride. It's very touching and quit sad, actually.
II. It's starts sad in a way as well. But drum machine comes and some sound effects- and it feels like a lonely travel in space. The magic of the sound keeps it futuristic to this day in late 2025.
III. Feels like an encounter with something new. A prelude of some kind. Harmony becomes super dense towards the end.
IV. Now we are in movement.
It's a pretty simple musical idea. But it's so well executed. Well, a banger.
The ode of the record. Lovely.
V. This one is the longest of the bunch, to me it's the best though. Starts more as a collage of sounds, and when the rythem kicks in there's some stereo game, which I think is the element that withstood the least test of time in the record. The last two and a half minutes are pretty cool, though. The panning still hits here.
VI. This one is super cool.
The melody here fits a synths version of a james bond movie. A slick Latin groove from the drum machine. The seal sound effects add to this tune and makes a beach chase soundtrack of sort.
A playful and classy way to finish this thing, which I can now comfortably say is a masterpiece.
I couldn't get entirely behind track five, but it's still one of the best i heard from the generator.
I high high high 4
Ne, it's a
I have to, sorry for the statistics
Lightning Bolt
2/5
I'm not afraid of loud and noisy things. This is just not very good in my opinion.
The most interesting aspect here are some beats.
The riffs are unfortunately not musicaly interesting enough. Textures are a bit colorless. Some beats are interesting. Even very impressive at point ls. But the album as a complete piece....
Some tracks try a different approach. I appreciate it but-
Let me say it in the simplest way possible- . It's not a nice thing to listen to.
Not interesting enough aswell. And something i would like to avoid if possible.
(I realize through this game that I am much more generous on giving 5's than mean to give 1's. I like to credit albums that I enjoy and surprised me. But I keep 1 for a prestige group of albums. This one didn't make the cut).
2
Scott Walker
5/5
The biggest smile appeared on my face when I saw this this morning.
I guess I'm one of the biggest Scott fans here, so I'm going to chat a bit before giving this incredible thing a 5.
For me, the Scott series is an incredible example of a growing artist.
Scott 1 is a beautiful set of renditions by Scott, some lovely arrangements that allows him to shine as an interpreter.
2 is more out there, and while less acclaimed, I love the sence of exploration and doubt on it. Each original there is a gem.
Scott 3 might be my personal favorite. The arrangements are stunning, the voice is as good it can be, but especially, the songs. Man.. unbelievable songwriting. The Jacques Brel covers are perfect.
4 the purest form Scott from this era. Only originals for the first time. More cohesive sound. I think i might like 3 just a little more because 4 is so clean.
But it's scott at his best.
If you didn't listen to this albums before, please do it. And prepare yourselves to an amazing journey with this one of a kind artist.
RIP master
Wilco
3/5
3 , 5, 6 .10 are my favorites
I've heard this record before, but it's a good opportunity to hear it again.
It starts slow
Three is beautiful
Four is nice aswell
Five is a classic, no doubt.
Six lovely as well
Seven as awkward as I remembered.
8 not remarkable in my opinion
9 is a nice song.
10 is a highlight. Such beautiful instrumentation. Loved it.
11 is beautiful aswell. Maybe a bit too long. I don't know if the ending adds much to the album.
What can I say, this is not so different than what I remembered. This album was and still is a bit of a let down to me.
The energy can't capture me. There are a few truly beautiful tracks here, but most are justOK. It's unfortunate, because I wanted to like it more this time.
it's a flat 3...
The National
3/5
First two tracks are very special. Especially 2. Wonderful song.
3 is very touching eventually, after beginning more standard.
I really like the lead vocals. They have some power behind their nonchalant costume. 4 is an example for that.
5 was my least favorite so far. Trying a bit too much to capture my attention.
6 I loved. A moving song.
There's a thing about this band sound.
It's very very, cohesive. Which in one point of view is a great positive, but on the other hand, it makes it hard to differentiate the individual members. Maybe it the style of mixing that was very popular at the time.maybe it tries to compete with the huge sound of pop music at the time. But many times, for me, it's all a bit buried. I like my bands sounding a bit more airy, more personal.
Anyway.
7 is very nice.
8 brings a different vibe which is needed at this point in the album. And does it in a great way. A very good song.
9 brings a dark tone that I like aswell.
Ten is nice, but I don't really get the lyrics.
The closing track is unfortunately not remarkable.
Better than what I thought.
I think it fair to give it a 3.5
Billy Bragg
3/5
Track 2 great.
3 good aswell.
5 bad, sorry.
7 is lovely.
Two last songs are incredible.
Lyrics especially. Loved that it finished on such a high note.
One by one is my favorite so far.
I absolutely get behind the lyrics of this songs, written by Woodie Guthrie. If that's the intention, it kind of does the job.
I prefer wilco songs here over billy songs. They have more contrast and I find them more interesting here
I have some problems, though.
It's not perfect at all, but some songs here are beatles and opened me up for some great lyricism from Guthrie
Beastie Boys
3/5
This guy's are amazing at making fun music.
The energy is hard to dispute.
The rapping is in very high quality, the interaction between the boys especially.
Production also feels ahead of time
A very good record
A high 3
2Pac
3/5
There's the intro
And than an amazing 3 song run.
Some of the smoothest production you can imagine, and great flow.
This is exactly the kind of record I don't want to see in my filter. But so far so good.
5 is less exiting.
6 better.
7 not wrong but I guess it hit different in the 90's.
Dear mama is great.
11 has smooth as hell production. Super funky.
In the latter half of the record the songs stop to surprise me, I must say.
The closing track is cool, though.
I think my expectations here were very low, so I enjoyed it much more than I expected.
But, still, it's not 'really' my thing.
I get the legacy in some way. He is an icon for good or bad. But, is it an essential listen to every music fan? Not in my opinion, no...
It still can be a three. It's solid enough for that.
Rod Stewart
2/5
Rod is a fine singer, but this one is not clear to me so far.
3 song in. Nothing remarkable.
This rendition of that's all right mama is not something in need in my life.
Tomorrow is a long time is a good song because Bob Dylan is quit a good songwriter. But this rendition is nice, not more.
Maggie May, finally a very good song here.
Rod's voice is perfect for this one.
Mandolin wind is also such a jump in quality
Great instrumentation.
Was less impressed with 7.
And 8 is a nice rendition of another classic song.
Not essential, what can I say.
A few bangers but mostly an underwhelming experience.
Not more than a 2 , 2.5...
Sorry rod, I like your character.
But this record not so much..
