Björk
4/5
incredible voice wow!
wasn’t sure how i’d feel listening to a full album by björk, but in general i really enjoyed this album. the last half is amazing.

Bee Gees
2/5
I’M A LIIIOOOONNNNN!!!!!! 🎶
my reaction to this album is just waves of “pls end this now” and “this is the best worst thing ever?” 😆
absolute worst song and it’s not even hilarious, okay maybe it’s a little bit hilarious; “remembering”
which is quite appropriately followed by “somebody stop the music”.
and then we have “when do i” which is just… so bad it makes me laugh so much 😆 amazing.
but the absolute fave song on this comically terrimazing album is “lion in winter” - the dedication to these vocals is something admirable tbh 😆
in this mess of an album we have an actual good song; “how to mend a broken heart”.
thanks bee gees for making me laugh and in turn prolong my life. for that i think i’ll rate this a 2. would’ve been a 1 but there are some songs that’s just hilariously bad it deserves a reward for that.

Tangerine Dream
5/5
for starters; a lot of people don’t seem to realise the link to spotify is wrong and only shows two tracks on side B, making it 10 mins short. go to the deluxe version and the first four tracks is the actual full album.
so the album;
i Love this. def listen on a good pair of headphones. it massages my brain so nicely. i love ambient music in general and i’m very impressed they managed to create this back in 1973. in the same year they started recording the album, they purchased a moog that originally came from The Rolling Stones. so they had to learn how this worked in a short while before deciding to record.
idk, it’s all very interesting reading about the process of this record. and the influence it had on the genre in the years to come. i wouldn’t listen to this without headphones as it probably won’t achieve the same nice brain massage.
fave track is the 17 min title track. it’s simply Amazing.
a low 5.

in general an okay feeling album for me. it’s not amazing, it’s not bad, it’s just “there”. i enjoy a few songs a lot tho, uncle salty is really nice. i love aerosmith when the songs aren’t speedy or fast singing. so the chorus in uncle salty is really, really good. sweet emotion i love as well.
fave song: sweet emotion

Jane Weaver

what an absolute delight of an album to have discovered! i absolutely love this! it has such a nice feel and flow to it, very much a full album listen experience that i love.
the second and third track are my favourites. the title track has a beat and feel to it that reminds me of radiohead, which is one of my fave bands of all time.

The Who
4/5
first time listening to this album and i really loved it! my least fave song was the james brown cover “please please please” - felt like it really didn’t fit in and i don’t quite love that sound in general.
“the good’s gone” i loved this one so much!
“the ox” was amazingly fun and epic to listen to!! i am wildly impressed by the insane drumming - *claps*.
“my generation” is an absolutely iconic song ofc.
The Pogues
1/5
i tried to listen but it’s really not for me so i gave up.
Pearl Jam
3/5
fave songs; oceans, black, even flow, deep
not quite the album for me but there’s a few good songs on here.
The Isley Brothers
3/5
3.7/5
this is my first exposure to this band and this album is very easy to listen to.
“don’t let me be lonely tonight” is a very beautiful ballad.
the ultimate stanky song is “sunshine (go away today)” - love it!
“summer breeze” however is my fave. i was surprised to recognize it so must’ve heard it somewhere, the guitar solo is my fave off the record.
Janelle Monáe
3/5
i am pleasantly surprised by this album! it definitely helped to listen to it knowing it was a concept album and had a movie/story to it. janelle’s voice is absolutely incredible! “come alive (war of roses)” is def an example of that. great song.
3.8/5
CHIC
2/5
2.7/5
it’s really well produced, the bass is very farty but in general, it’s not really hitting with me. i felt a bit bored listening esp when some songs feels like they drag on forever.
le freak however, is iconic.
Beck
5/5
having only listened to odelay before, this was a massive change of style and i am loving this so much. it’s like a blanket for my soul. i’m hearing sounds of ryan adams, air, and nick drake. especially nick drake in the song “round the bend” - which is my favourite from the album.
Barry Adamson
3/5
okay so, had this been purely an instrumental album i would’ve given it a 4, i actually really loved all the sounds. but lyrically this isn’t for me, i skipped two tracks. jarvis cocker made me feel so uncomfortable 😆
achieved in the valley of dolls sounded so trip hop! loved the way the vocals sounded.
faves;
something wicked this way comes
the big bamboozle
the sweetest embrace (feat. nick cave)
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
2/5
2 for the music only
Sister Sledge
3/5
a solid 3/5
i do enjoy discovering where those famous songs come from that i’ve heard throughout my life but never knew who sang them. this is the case with “thinking of you” and “we are family”, where the former is an absolute banger.
i enjoyed two other songs from this album but the rest felt boring to me and i struggled to enjoy them properly.
2/5
lyrical content is not for me, musically it’s.. noisy. i do like the bluesy sound of “motor city is burning”.
Hugh Masekela
4/5
3.8/5
the first jazz album i quite enjoyed.
Dusty Springfield
3/5
beautiful voice and very easy to listen to. other than “son of a preacher man”, nothing too special but “the windmills of your mind” was really good.
Carole King
4/5
this is why i am doing this project, to finally get a chance to listen to these old iconic albums that everyone else seems to know.
i really enjoyed this! i’ve obviously heard of carole king before and i knew a few songs from this album, especially ‘where you lead’ from gilmore girls.
a really lovely album all around full of hits and beautiful songs.
Elvis Presley
3/5
well i enjoyed listening to the king! never heard a full album of elvis before so this was fun. i started listening to the originals tho and honestly prefer them. esp ray charles ‘i got a woman’ which is iconic to me.
Christina Aguilera
2/5
i did not enjoy most of this but there's a few songs that brought the rating up to 2 instead of a 1. "welcome" was a nice one i hadn't heard before. "hurt" i knew already and i enjoy that song.
in general, disc 2 is miles better than disc 1. i couldn't get through disc 1 but disc 2 is nice except for that one song that i skipped xD
Def Leppard
3/5
solid. hysteria is my favourite track on the album.
(rly do not like the album cover tho, way too scary 😅)
10/10 to drummer rick allen.
Billie Holiday
3/5
Beastie Boys
2/5
i like some of the sounds and beats, but i really don’t like listening to hip/hop. i gave this a go because not every song is marked explicit.
i did enjoy the jump from “hey ladies”, to a short country song, to the rock sound of “looking down the barrel of a gun” 😆
i do not enjoy the shouty vocals, even if that is their trademark.
Bob Dylan
4/5
first time listening to this album.
simple twist of fate absolutely beautiful song!
idiot wind is looong but has such emotion to the vocals.
meet me in the morning is a lovely song.
the jack of hearts song is way too long but hey, at least it inspired joan baez to write “diamonds and rust” so thank you bob.
shelter from the storm, another lovely song.
the guitar riff in buckets of rain remind me of the song “in the summertime”. a really nice song that!
Brian Eno
4/5
an album that will surely grow on me the more i listen to it.
Derek & The Dominos
2/5
here’s how little i know of eric clapton; my initial thought was “oh that’s fun, they named an album after eric clapton’s iconic song and covered it.” 😆
but now that i’ve listened to it, i did not enjoy it. i didn’t know the 4 minute long outro to layla existed and it completely threw me off and i just cannot make friends with it, i guess i’ve only heard a cover. had it been a separate instrumental track instead, then sure. it’d be good i guess. but i just wanted to hear layla.
nonetheless, the fact that layla exists on the album makes it a 2 and not a 1.
the last song on the album that was more acoustic and not endless shredding was quite lovely.
The La's
3/5
it kind of sits between not great, not bad - it just exists and it was enjoyable to listen to but nothing special. the last track “looking glass” was great however, and i think my favourite of the album.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
3.6/5
it was a bit of a mental struggle to start listening to this album as i wasn’t getting j to it. but eventually got through that wall and honestly, it’s a good album. it has a few really amazing songs but then kind of drops off in places for me. i do love the singer’s voice.
fave songs being;
-skeletons
-dull life
-shame and fortune
least fave song;
-heads will roll
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
3.7/5
i am pleasantly surprised by this, i’ve never listened to anything bruce other than hearing some hits on the radio. i don’t think i recognised a single song on this album except maybe “the promised land”. it felt slightly familiar but i have no clue.
it’s a good album, great in places, i enjoyed it a lot!
honourable mention to “racing in the street” - a very, very beautiful song!
Miriam Makeba
4/5
3.8/5
i really, really enjoyed this discovery! absolutely wonderful voice. it was great fun to hear a more authentic “the lion sleeps tonight” version, which i much prefer in a way. apparently the original is from the 30’s.
fave song; “where does it lead” - the jazz chords are amazing, wonderful lyrics. it was difficult to find any information on this song. i think it may be written by someone named gwen davis but google really had no information to give me.
the cover of “house of the rising sun” was really lovely to listen to as well.
i loved hearing the african language being sung as well. click languages fascinate me so much.
overall a really pleasant album!
Hole
2/5
not quite my thing but there was a few interesting guitar riffs here and there.
The Replacements
2/5
in my brain it’s an unwritten rule that only the beatles can name an album “let it be” xD
but yes, this didn’t really fall into my personal enjoyment. maybe i’ll feel different on another day and in a different mood.
The Cure
4/5
a forest absolutely slaps and i’ll listen to it again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again…….
p.s absolutely love the album cover art.
Ella Fitzgerald
3/5
NOTE: i listened to ‘the very best of the gershwin’ album from this songbook because there is no way i am listening to over 3 hours of this one album.
it’s really nice background music. amazing orchestra and voice. 45 mins is enough tho, i applaud anyone who listened to the entire 3+ hours of this song book.
as for the painting on the artwork, that’s a 5/5. i love it! i read the artist was bernard buffet, a frenchman.
i didn’t think i’d know any songs but i do know “fascinating rhythm” as covered by jamie cullum!
Aerosmith
3/5
3.5/5
in general an okay feeling album for me. it’s not amazing, it’s not bad, it’s just “there”. i enjoy a few songs a lot tho, uncle salty is really nice. i love aerosmith when the songs aren’t speedy or fast singing. so the chorus in uncle salty is really, really good. sweet emotion i love as well.
fave song: sweet emotion
Gillian Welch
3/5
pleasantly boring.
fave song: everything is free
it reminds me of the milk carton kids but so much that i want to go listen to them instead xD
Pixies
2/5
2/5
this sound is not for me, but there were a few songs that i liked the music of, but the screaming vocals and lyrics is just not something i enjoy.
“here comes your man” is something i’ve heard before and it’s a good song.
“silver” was the first song i hadn’t heard before that i actually enjoyed. but that was about it.
it seems they were a formative band for other artists that came after them tho so i guess i shall say thank you for giving me radiohead - one of my fave bands ever.
King Crimson
5/5
4.9/5
i love this album so much. it’s grown on me over time and it’s just such an incredibly beautiful album!
the first track is always a bit challenging for me but i appreciate it more and more with each listen. my favourite tracks are basically everything after that. epitaph is an incredibly beautiful and epic song.
the only place where i tend to lose my focus is during the slow, improvised part in moonchild. i generally don’t mind it but it drags on for too long. one thing it does well tho, is when the title track finally hits, you instantly go YES!! the title track is another insanely beautiful song that gives me goosebumps. i want to learn these chords because they have such a nice sound to them!
the album cover is cool tbh, it makes for a perfect emote in a discord server 😆 i bet barry godber never could’ve predicted that xD
Penguin Cafe Orchestra
3/5
“the sound of someone you love who’s going away and it doesn’t matter” was incredibly emotional and beautiful. it made me cry.
Daft Punk
1/5
i truly did not enjoy any of this xD i made sure to listen to every single track just to be sure and the only few seconds i enjoyed was when i could hear a synth similar to the one in baba o’reilly by the who.
i’ve heard other daft punk stuff which has been a lot more enjoyable.
congrats daft punk’s debut album for becoming my first 1 star rating.
Green Day
2/5
Beatles
5/5
Paul Weller
4/5
i’m not sure i have ever really listened to paul weller, but i truly loved this album! sunflower is my fave song of the album, what a banger.
a rock solid 4/5
Beatles
4/5
Supertramp
3/5
i first listened to this in the background while cleaning and doing various things and i was enjoying it. but now when i focus on it and pay attention to the music fully, it’s not really hitting me.
i should love it, it all sounds good and well made. but it doesn’t quite click for some reason. it just simply exists.
fave song: “if everyone was listening”
Dizzee Rascal
1/5
no, tyvm. i hate being dizzy and i’m def not a rascal.
Stevie Wonder
2/5
the amount of times i’ve tried to get through this album and i simply don’t enjoy it at all… there’s nothing that makes me want to keep listening, my brain don’t find it interesting and it feels like such a chore.
i will say that two songs were very nice;
“you haven’t done nothin’”
and “they won’t go when i go”
i don’t want to give a 2 but it’s more a high 2, i’m just done at this point and i’m raging 😆 there’s other stevie wonder albums i’ve enjoyed much much more.
Buzzcocks
3/5
3.7/5
can grow into a 4 if i get used to the first 4-5 tracks.
as i’ve noticed with this project, i’m not a fan of most punk music. but this album feels more towards the rock punk genre and i have to say, i quite enjoy the second half of the album. the first four songs isn’t quite hitting me, but after love battery i’m really starting to enjoy it.
the outro in sixteen is really cool.
fiction romance is COOL, and the transition to autonomy is amazing. autonomy is my fave song from the album, but the last track moving away from the pulsebeat is a close contender. the drum beat absolutely slaps in that song!
Leftfield
4/5
you know, i initially rated this a 3 and i was only loving one song, melt. but then time passed and a friend of mine introduced me to aphex twin and i got hooked. and then i listened to a few other EDM albums. i knew then i wanted to revisit this album and see how my mind has changed with my new found love for EDM.
and i gotta say, i am loving this. it was the perfect get chores done music. i will say it’s pretty much a “get things done to” album, if i were to purely listen to it and not do anything i would probably get tired fairly quickly as it is over an hour long.
but i am increasing my rating to a 4 because it does slap.
5/5
4.8/5
this was my introduction to PJ Harvey a while back and i absolutely love this album! i needed to change my perspective some at first and after that i really started loving it.
my fave songs are probablyyy…
- this mess we’re in (feat. thom yorke)
- we float
- one line
Peter Tosh
2/5
lyrically, not really something i enjoy listening to. musically, it’s much of the same sound but it’s not bad. i’m not really into reggae in general.
i enjoyed “no sympathy” a lot.
The Stooges
2/5
i started off listening to the iggy mix.
“i need somebody” has a cool sound and beat. probs the song i enjoyed the most.
in general did not like, it’s not an album for me at all.
now listening to the bowie mix, despite it flaws, i enjoy it a bit more. i can’t explain why, tho the first song “search and destroy” sounds a bit awful in the ears haha.
honestly bowie mixes of the last two songs sounds more pleasant than the loud, muddy iggy mix.
fave songs are “gimme danger” and “i need somebody”.
2.5/5
Led Zeppelin
4/5
ngl, this actually kinda slaps. i wasn’t in the mood for it the other day and i don’t quite enjoy this classic rock sound. but today my mood is absolutely there for it and i am enjoying it a lot 😆
the guitars are absolutely gorgeous sounding. so many layers and it’s beautiful. vocals insane. very nice album tbh!
Carpenters
3/5
beautiful voices and harmonies. a looot of covers.
in general it’s quite nice. i’d classify this as nice easy listening music but nothing that really excites me much. at least not from only having listened to it only once.
3/5
it do be funky.
Oasis
4/5
4.6/5
i've heard a few songs off this album but this was the first time i listened to it in full and i loved it! so many bangers through and through! i really, really enjoyed Slide Away.
long term tho, i think it would be a bit exhausting to listen to. it’s loud, distorted and noisy. but i was in the right mood for it today and really enjoyed it. i even listened to the morning glory album straight after (which i thiiink i like better?!). i know that the way they sing is kind of their thing but i really enjoyed the songs where the voices were more “normal”.
then again, LASAAAAANNYYYYAAAA is quite fun haha.
in other words; i need to listen to this a few more times to see how i continue to get on with it xD
i’ll rate it a weak 5.
edit: it’s going down to a 4 after having gone back to it today. solid album still but not a 5 to me.
Led Zeppelin
3/5
i had nr IV last week, and the process went the same way with nr III. didn’t particularly enjoy. on a second listen, i enjoyed it a lot. and now i feel like i never want to listen to them ever again.
i’ve never come across a band before that has made me feel so indecisive haha.
Isaac Hayes
2/5
i am really struggling to get through this. it doesn’t hold up on its own without being in the movie, that i haven’t seen btw. but i am just very bored, and it just feels.. bland. it doesn’t sound bad, it’s just.. bland and boring. it’s prob great in the actual movie.
Bill Evans Trio
3/5
it’s good jazz i suppose 👏🏼
smol rant about the most annoying track order on spotify, it’s just added the bonus tracks after the initial take, as the bonus are just other takes of some songs already on the record. if i would listen to this again, i’d preferably make my own playlist with the correct order leaving out the bonus tracks.
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
sonically i quite enjoyed this a lot. american dream, the title track was really lush sounding. but lyrically not much of an album for me.
Fred Neil
2/5
as much of a pioneer as wikipedia says he is, i did not really find this special. i was quite bored at times. the best songs were The Dolphins and Green Rocky Road, with the latter being my fave. after some thinking i realised why i like it. it’s because it sounds like nick drake’s one of these things first. not sure if nick drake heard fred neil’s original and copied it but it’s incredibly similar.
the last 8 min instrumental on this album was cool i guess but i felt like turning it off halfway through. the best part is the second half tho.
i do quite enjoy his voice, it’s def very nick cave sounding.
Tim Buckley
4/5
honestly a really nice album. i’m glad i finally got to listen to tim buckley.
“pleasant street” is by far the best song on there for me. incredible vocals, incredible song, very reminiscent of his son, jeff buckley.
tim was only 20 years old when this was recorded as well.
Björk
4/5
incredible voice wow!
wasn’t sure how i’d feel listening to a full album by björk, but in general i really enjoyed this album. the last half is amazing.
The Fall
3/5
this was a trip and a half 😆
Tori Amos
4/5
fave song: winter
fave vocal melody: the way she sings “chains” on crucify
honorary mention to the bravery it took to write “me and my gun” and release it to the public. i couldn’t listen to it because it’s too heavy and way too triggering for me. but i admire her strength greatly!
The Strokes
3/5
fave songs; modern age, last nite, hard to explain and trying your luck.
least fave thing about this album is the nekkid album cover.
The Clash
4/5
Teenage Fanclub
2/5
it's really quite boring and meh. nothing that really grabs my attention and makes me want to repeat it.
the first track was probably the track i enjoyed the most.
The Clash
3/5
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
comfortably very boring.
the entire album could be one song really xD
Radiohead
4/5
radiohead is one of my fave bands ever and while this album itself don’t quite reach up to a 5 for me, i still love it and it contains some of my fave songs of theirs; pyramid song (just wow!), i might be wrong (has the coolest sound) and knives out (just beautiful).
Leonard Cohen
2/5
2.7/3
leonard cohen was an interesting listen because i’ve never heard an actual album of his before.
sadly didn’t find it much to my taste.
BUT! avalanche is an amazing song. i love it, the guitar is just amazing. i love this style of playing. the strings are so beautiful. the dark vocals really fit the mood as well.
another song i enjoyed is famous blue raincoat.
The Band
2/5
unfortunately the album did not excite me much.
Isaac Hayes
3/5
the weakest of 3s.
the first track is amazing, sounds very trip hop portishead like so that was cool to hear back in 1969. Hooverphonic sampled this song in 2 Wicky, which is probably where i’ve first heard this.
the rest wasn’t great. lyrics and … noises of the second track wasn’t my thing. third track was okay. nothing special. last track i was absolutely raging at the 8min 40 seconds of talking before the song even started.
i would’ve given it a 2 but for the first track being amazing he gets a 3 😆
Jane Weaver
5/5
what an absolute delight of an album to have discovered! i absolutely love this! it has such a nice feel and flow to it, very much a full album listen experience that i love.
the second and third track are my favourites. the title track has a beat and feel to it that reminds me of radiohead, which is one of my fave bands of all time.
George Harrison
4/5
4/5
george, you wrote some of my fave songs for the beatles but tackling this humongous album is not easy.
a few notes on the songs as i go along:
i’d have you anytime: lovely song but not really a song i’d want to start an album with. it feels like a middle song where you need some rest from some upbeat bangers.
my sweet lord: heard it before, it’s a bit tiring to listen to 😅
wah-wah: okay i have listened to this several times and i now like it a lot. the electric guitar slaps.
isn’t it a pity: such a long outro, but a nice song.
what is life: genuinely really enjoy this song!
if not for you: i like it!!
behind that locked door: absolutely lovely choon mate. that pedal steel is gorgeous.
let it down: oh this is a really cool chord progression!!! my fave song so far!
run of the mill: another really nice song!
summary disc 1:
i’ve given it several listens and honestly quite like it a lot!
disc 2:
beware of darkness: may be my fave george solo song! it’s such a beautiful song.
apple scruff: a much needed silly song after beware of darkness.
ballad of sir frankie crisp: not bad not bad, some melody is similar to beware of darkness.
all things must pass: another george favourite of mine.
art of dying: OKAY THIS SLAPS!?
isn’t it a pity: yes. again. i don’t know why this is on here twice in different versions 😅and i don’t know which version i like the most xD
summary disc 2: after a re-listen i like it better than the first time listening.
the apple studios jam disc 3 i will view as bonus content and not include in my rating… for the sake of listening to everything, i did listen to it.
Neil Young
5/5
i had to read up on the story of this album to fully understand why it sounds the way it does, and oh man.. 5/5.
it’s quite impossible to not listen to “borrowed tune” and not be hit with an emotional freight train.
“new mama” is absolutely incredible, so is “albuquerque” wow. just wow. i love lap steel guitar so much. i love harmonies.
what an album!
Muddy Waters
3/5
*furiously stares at that gorgeous guitar*
Arctic Monkeys
2/5
this was too noisy and raw for my tired saturday head. “mardy bum” was basically the only song i enjoyed. i have heard it before, along with “i bet you look good..”.
the last song was quite nice.
The Monkees
3/5
quite nice album but nothing amazing to me.
“you told me” reminds me so much of “if i needed someone” by the beatles. “shades of gray” also reminds me of another song i haven’t figured out yet.
those two are my fave songs from this.
honourable mention to “yilch” because hilarious song 😆
Ray Charles
3/5
it’s just volume 1 that’s the original release and the one in the book. so i am not listening to volume 2 and the bonus tracks on spotify.
it’s really not my thing this. i love ray’s voice but i really don’t enjoy big band music much. i feel i need to be there live to properly enjoy it.
it is very respectful and amazing the history and impact this album had. but enjoyment wise it’s still only a 3 for me.
Baaba Maal
4/5
people hating on something just because they don’t understand the lyrics is wow 😅 i feel i don’t need it with this one and i loved the vibe and sound of it all, i love the voice as well! good find on the list and i hope to find more albums in languages that’s not only english. because it’s def needed!
downside is it’s quite long, 11 tracks at 1 hour basically. cut it down to 40 mins tops and i’m happy xD that seems to be my preferred length for an album in this project i’ve noticed haha
Miles Davis
5/5
g’wan lads!
Leonard Cohen
1/5
well this was surely interesting 😅 i’m learning throughout this project i am absolutely not a fan of leonard cohen.
“take this waltz” was the only song i even remotely liked. couldn’t even finish listening to the title track as lyrics were … not something i enjoyed 😅
“jazz police” was a song that gave me many laughs 😆
on a second listen…. “first we take manhattan” actually slaps 😆 it’s stanky and i am finding myself head bopping haha
1.7/5
David Bowie
4/5
i enjoy this but it’s not amongst my fave bowie sounds.
FAYYMEEEEEE!! however, is absolutely iconic!
Lynyrd Skynyrd
3/5
simple man is the best song on the album, the rest is a bit average territory and don’t quite reach me properly atm.
free bird is probably overplayed in my head at this point.
The Electric Prunes
3/5
i really enjoyed the first song but the rest didn’t quite grab me the same way. it’s an average 3. it’s good, it’s just nothing that seems to excite my brain atm. some songs were quite fun tho like “the toonerville trolley” 😆
Al Green
3/5
3.8/5
i feel like this should be a 4 but i can’t decide. it was great, but it didn’t really hit me, i’ve not been in a music mood so i struggle with really enjoying this the way i know i probably could. the first song was the only song i felt like “i love this!”
gonna give it a 3 with the chance of upgrading it to a 4 on a better day.
Coldplay
5/5
easy 5, one of my favorite albums of all time! it’s just fantastic all around. this is the coldplay i love the most.
yellow is one of those songs i simply haven’t gotten tired of yet through all these years. mainly because i truly love the original sound of it. it’s kind of alt rocky and that guitar riff is the best part about it. just never gets old to listen to.
sparks is really, really nice to play on acoustic guitar. and while listening to this for the millionth time i now want to learn the short title track, parachutes.
i also see the weird coldplay hate shines through in the review section. i’ve never understood it, but then again i don’t understand humans.
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
a very theatrical and musical sounding album. it lies somewhere in between the 3 and 4 territory, can’t quite make up my mind about it. i don’t really see myself putting this on again.
“i don’t know what it is” - i quite like this!!
“14th street” was fun.
“beautiful child” is my favourite song on the album. it’s amazing!
the last song “dinner at eight” was really beautiful 😭
i do really like his voice, but i understand why some people don’t.
The Kinks
3/5
i can hear that it’s good… but i don’t really feel it’s interesting enough to want to keep listening. there were a few songs that peaked my interest but in general, not feeling it for now. i just wanted to go listen to Magical Mystery Tour or Sgt Peppers by The Beatles instead 😅
it will prob work better when i don’t feel completely burnt out on this genre and the 60s/70s from this list.
Tito Puente
3/5
not quite my vibe today. i enjoyed the slower ballad. other than that, feels like i'm listening to the same song for 40 mins. i enjoy the songs that has vocals a lot more than the instrumentals.
Suede
2/5
this mix sounds so strange in my ears, kind of muffled in a way? i don’t really enjoy this much. idk why. i’m just… noup.
“pantomime horse” probably the best song.
2.8/5
Stan Getz
5/5
stan getz a 5
(charlie byrd also gets a 5)
Neu!
5/5
i had no idea what to expect but i really like this!! having read up on it, it seems to have been really influential. i liked that the two band members wanted to do different things so side A is one style and side B is another style. i love this.
g’wan then! take my 5.
Tangerine Dream
5/5
for starters; a lot of people don’t seem to realise the link to spotify is wrong and only shows two tracks on side B, making it 10 mins short. go to the deluxe version and the first four tracks is the actual full album.
so the album;
i Love this. def listen on a good pair of headphones. it massages my brain so nicely. i love ambient music in general and i’m very impressed they managed to create this back in 1973. in the same year they started recording the album, they purchased a moog that originally came from The Rolling Stones. so they had to learn how this worked in a short while before deciding to record.
idk, it’s all very interesting reading about the process of this record. and the influence it had on the genre in the years to come. i wouldn’t listen to this without headphones as it probably won’t achieve the same nice brain massage.
fave track is the 17 min title track. it’s simply Amazing.
a low 5.
Björk
5/5
i was in bed listening to this on headphones and wow. what a fantastic album! it’s incredibly cool what the human voice is capable of. i have thoroughly enjoyed this.
“vokuro” is my favourite song and it completely took me by surprise and made me cry. it felt so emotional!
second favourite track is “desired constellation”.
i am still very new to björk’s music but this has made me appreciate her voice so much.
i honestly don’t understand why this is rated so low by people. open up your mind!
this is absolutely a 5 to me.
Shuggie Otis
3/5
note to self: the albums ends on “not available” as the spotify version is the reissue from 2001 that has bonus tracks from his other albums included.
this is really nice and laid back mixed with nice funky sounds! absolutely love the guitar work.
the vocal walk down at 1:48 in the first track is my fave thing on the whole album. it is GORGEOUS!!!! this title track is my favourite of the album for sure.
i am a bit torn whether i feel this is a high 3 or a low 4 because it does kind of drop off a bit too much for me. even just the second track being such a mood shift from the hype first track is something i struggle with.
i listened to the extra 4 bonus tracks and yeah i get why people think it’s too long with the bonus tracks. the original release is a perfect length at 33 something minutes.
Dexys Midnight Runners
1/5
i don’t know what i’ve just listened to 😅
The Velvet Underground
3/5
best song: the murder mystery
best chill song: pale blue eyes
R.E.M.
5/5
automatic 5 for the people
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
5/5
another absolute and clear 5!
one of my fave neil young albums.
cinnamon girl never gets old, such a great song!
i love neil young’s guitar playing style. his solos are just great even though they may not be perfect or clean in someone else’s eyes. to me they hold a lot of emotion and character.
The xx
3/5
i kind of enjoy a lot of the sounds. the intro is soo good. but i really can’t get with the vocals. i don’t know why but i just find them too boring and sleepy, unfortunately.
fave song is shelter. i don’t mind the vocals and it’s a really nice song.
Jane's Addiction
2/5
note to myself: this is really not my thing, esp not the artwork.
summertime roll was kind of nice tho, i enjoyed that one. which turns out, was the only song i even remotely enjoyed.
my 100th rated album!!
i actually enjoy this! i’ve needed a few listens.
“Elevation” is a certified banger.
“Stuck in a moment”, “Walk on” and “Kite” has some incredibly beautiful lyrics that’s important and meaningful.
The bridge in “Walk on” is just amazing and gives me goosebumps 😭
“When I look at the world”, enjoyed it a lot. i love the way bono’s voice almost cracks in the chorus.
“The ground beneath her feet” had a cool sound but in headphones it’s panning quite a bit which makes my head feel eurgh, which is a shame.
there’s a few songs i don’t quite enjoy but the pros of the album as a whole weigh up enough for me to rate this a 4.
Meat Loaf
4/5
one word. epic.
fave song is “heaven can wait” - wooooow what an absolutely beautiful song! i am in love with the piano and chord progression 😭
The Youngbloods
3/5
i listened to this first on 1.5 hours of sleep and felt it was not great but not bad. on a full nights sleep i’m giving this another go while sitting outside in the nice spring weather.
the first track “darkness, darkness” is really nice, i love this one.
i really like “smug” as well. some fun vocal phrasing in here.
this is such a difficult album to rate as it quickly becomes background noise for me. my brain struggles to maintain the interest in it.
“quicksand” is a really nice song and one that grabs my attention again.
“sham” is also quite nice and would’ve been a good song to end the album on.
these short instrumental interludes if you will, not sure how to feel about them. just wondering why they’re there as they feel so out of place.
i think it’s going to have to be a 3/5.
Goldie
3/5
i don’t even know what version to listen to as there’s a 2x CD version… a normal CD and Cassette version… then there’s the 2x LP version… they’re all different 🫠 the version on spotify is the 2x CD version and it’s nearly 2 hours long which is just too long for a focused listen, and i am not doing chores for 2 hours! it seems most EDM albums is just really long.
there’s been the occasional song that i really like. “sea of tears” is amazing.
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
i keep trying to listen to this album and i just cannot find the motivation or time to finish it. it’s So long and somewhat boring and uninteresting. it’s probably good background music.
Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
3/5
Roxy Music
4/5
an album that grew on me and sounded much better on a second listen.
fave songs; bitter-sweet (WOW?!), out of the blue (slaps so hard), a really good time (so good!) and the thrill of it all (banger).
Johnny Cash
4/5
Frank Black
3/5
so. many. songs. whyyyyy!
i didn’t make it through on my first listen as it was late and it wasn’t the best music for my tired head. trying to dive back in i feel fully unmotivated because i just don’t really love this. it’s okay. not bad. just not great to me. i liked a few songs.
calistan (really liked this one!)
headache
freedom rock (also really liked this one a lot!)
two reelers had a really nice end to it.
olé mulholland - kind of a banger!
superabound - there was a part that reminded me of bob dylan xD
Simply Red
2/5
a bit boren.
The Residents
3/5
very interesting 😆i appreciate the weirdness hahaha
A Tribe Called Quest
3/5
old school nostalgic hip hop that i can actually listen to! most of it anyways 😆
“can i kick it” - i discovered i had heard before somewhere because i had a big “i know this song!!!!” moment when i first listened to some of this album half a year ago.
my one complaint is that it’s very long.
The Smiths
3/5
the first song was a banger and the guitars kind of reminded me of the cure (yes, i said it). but it went off a cliff after that 😆
‘that joke isn’t funny anymore’ was decent.
‘well i wonder’ was quite nice.
‘barbarism begins at home’ - yeah, i like this, it slapped and it was a bit funky too.
Duran Duran
4/5
first time listening to a duran duran album! i’ve only heard a few hits in the past. on this album in particular i only know “hungry like the wolf”.
bangers on this album;
rio
hungry like the wolf
new religion
last chance on the stairway
save a prayer
the chauffeur is a very cool sounding song with a different vibe to it than the rest of the songs. love that!
this is quite a mixed album with a few meh songs and quite a few bangers on it. i shall slap a 4 on it.
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
it sounds good but nothing really excites me. it’s just… there.
“rescue” slapped.
“villiers terrace” was also good.
i was not interested enough to listen to the extra two tracks from the US version, “do it clean” and “read it in the books”.
3/5
Brian Wilson
3/5
i’ve gotten this album the day after brian wilson’s passing :((
i don’t really have much knowledge in brian wilson or the beach boys. i’ve listened to pet sounds and i know good vibrations. that’s about it.
it’s not quite my thing but it is sounding really nice. i’ve always enjoyed the harmonies from the beach boys.
movement two; wonderful to surf’s up is really lovely. i enjoy this a lot!
but in general it’s quite uninteresting and nothing feels particularly coherent. good vibrations is an absolute choon tho.
3/5
Nina Simone
5/5
i am loving this. what a powerful voice!
it’s quite funny this album popped up today as i am in the middle of a david bowie discography run through and he does the most amazing cover of “wild is the wind” which tops anything anyone else has ever made. so it was quite fun to see this album being named after that song, and has that cover here as well.
“four women” what a strong and beautiful and gut wrenching song.
“break down and let it all out” is amazing vocal wise. so cool.
“lilac wine” is a wonderful cover.
5/5
Waylon Jennings
4/5
my dad loves country music and it was something that was played a lot in the house growing up. with that background country music is something i sometimes got in the mood to listen to but i’ve never actually listened properly to old roots country music. if i’m not in the mood i have a hard time with it.
i feel like i will need more listens with this album but i like the sound of it. i love the gritty tones mixed in it. the weeping sound of “old five and dimers (like me)” is where i get bored. esp when going from the gritty rock country in the title track.
“omaha” has been my favourite track. i love the sound of it! my least favourite track, still a pretty song tho, is probably the last song, the cover RCA wanted to put on the album just to ensure some sales, they were hesitant to release a full album of songs written by a then unknown songwriter, billy joe shaver.
4/5
Joni Mitchell
5/5
i’ve returned to this album after a while because it annoys me that i didn’t like it as much as Blue. i don’t know why it never hit me the first time but it’s really working well now. i’m paying attention to things and it’s such a beautiful sounding album. i love the sound of the bass, guitar, vocals, everything.
just so gorgeous.
it’s getting upgraded from a 3 to a 5 😮 yep. i’m doing it. i love this.
Linkin Park
3/5
i can’t say i’m really in to nu-metal. the singles off this album is quite iconic but i don’t go out of my way to listen to them. they’re fun to hear when someone covers them in a different style or genre xD
i say this but then “in the end” comes on and i’m like HYPEEEE !!!!
my fave song is actually the mostly instrumental Cure for the Itch. it almost sounds a bit Aphex Twin.
Cocteau Twins
5/5
this is an absolute vibe! loving it!
persephone and pandora are standout tracks for me.
The Black Keys
3/5
everything sounds the same and nothing is really peaking my interest. it’s okay.
Baaba Maal
4/5
i enjoyed this a lot while cooking dinner.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
i’m not really a big fan of Led Zep, but there are some songs i end up enjoying.
some notes;
“trampled under foot” - did franz ferdinand get their inspiration for “take me out” from this song? very similar in style either way.
“kashmir” - yeah i enjoy this one. g’wan.
disc 2 is much nicer for me so far than disc 1.
“in the light” has been my fave track so far. very prog rock and i do love that here!
“ten years gone” - really enjoying this one!
fave songs; kashmir, in the light and ten years gone.
Simple Minds
5/5
what an amazing album!!
i’d like the vocals to be mixed cleaner, a bit louder and not be so reverby and echoey. the first track suffers from a very low vocal mix that’s just bad. shame because it’s such a great song. i doubt that all this will actually stop me from putting this album on tho.
i llistened to flac versions of andrew walters remasters from the super deluxe cd box set released in 2016 and i loved the way it sounded. then i go to spotify and find it sounding similar again. *i’m truly not an expert on sound* sigh xD
fave songs; someone, somewhere (in summertime), promised you a miracle, big sleep, new gold dream.
big sleep probably being the nr 1 fave!
My Bloody Valentine
3/5
this wall of absolute noise only seems to work for me when i am absolutely knackered and can’t move and need to numb my pain. the noise is weirdly comforting at times. i didn’t enjoy this as much as “loveless” tho so it’ll only get a 3. i imagine “loveless” may be a 4 or a 5 once i get it.
‘only tomorrow’ and ‘new you’ were tracks that stood out for me.
Fatboy Slim
4/5
the music gets a 4. “praise you” is an actual banger and rockefeller stank gets stuck in my head 😅
Sonic Youth
5/5
absolutely incredible album, an absolute listening experience on headphones. it reminds me of bowie’s outside in a way. the concept and feel to it.
bubble gum, the last track, is a bonus track so i don’t count it in my rating. it also doesn’t fit the album at all. it ends so so well on the “madonna, sean and me” track. perfect ending there.
worth to note, i didn’t love it at first but i felt it was one of those albums that needed to rest so i returned to it the day after and yeah, it’s a 5.
Guided By Voices
2/5
i don’t understand the point of this but it’s like listening to a very long collection of demo tapes. most are just really short and unfinished and today this has bugged me xD
it gets a 2/5. would’ve been a 1 but the music itself isn’t bad. it’s just annoying to listen to this entire thing.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
5/5
absolutely mindblowingly amazing! now this is my kind of jazz. and i am extremely picky with the kind of jazz i like, as i normally don’t enjoy it much. but add in prog rock elements like in the first song and i am hooked. literally my first thought was “PROG JAZZ!?”
and yeah “take five” is iconic. i forgot what it sounded like so when it came on i instantly went ”IT’S THIS SONG!” 😮
i will admit it mostly went back to, i don’t want to say boring jazz, but more traditional sounding jazz. i much more preferred the sounds of the “prog” section in the first track. the last song “pick up sticks” was very nice and didn’t feel “boring”.
a well deserved 5/5 album.
Curtis Mayfield
3/5
it sounds good but i’m not really into it. soul is not one of my fave genres. i will say, this definitely works a lot better as a standalone soundtrack than “shaft” ever did. “shaft” was an absolute drag to get through and didn’t hold up on its own. at least “superfly” can stand on its own two feet without watching the movie.
the title track is a banger.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
3.6/5
an overall nice album, i enjoy the guitar noodles. graveyard train did feel like it dragged on a bit after a while.
loved the first track a lot, i must’ve heard that one before, surely! also really enjoy the proud mary original version.
love the guitar tone in the solos on “keep on chooglin’”
Arcade Fire
5/5
what a great album
The Who
4/5
it gets plus points for being one of the first, if not the first? well known rock operas. it's long, and i only really truly love one song, pinball wizard. but in general i like this, it's an easy listen in the background.
gonna give it a 4 still.
The Jesus And Mary Chain
1/5
some songs are downright painful to listen to and i’m not even on headphones. these high pitch screeches are killing my ears!
Otis Redding
4/5
a solid album of mostly covers.
“a change is gonna come” is my favourite of course. iconic song that..
Leonard Cohen
5/5
i had an absolute crisis rating this and my brain is now giving this a 5.
Elliott Smith
5/5
i don’t know why it’s taken me so long to listen to a full elliott smith album but i absolutely loved this!
it is a bit too long for my personal comfort but i enjoyed this a lot still. there’s a lot of bangers and a lot of wonderful acoustic tunes. such beautiful, effortless sounding melodies and vocal lines.
love the way it all sounds too. brilliant.
4.5/5
Siouxsie And The Banshees
3/5
musically i like it, like the voice too. lyrically, not quite for me.
3/5
Hüsker Dü
1/5
i- noup. just no. no.
Mudhoney
3/5
only listening to the original release which were 6 songs. that’s the one that’s submitted in the book.
“mudride” was a genuinely great song that i really enjoyed!
“no one has” is actually good!
“if i think” i kind of half enjoyed? the non noisy parts anyways xD
mudride honestly reminds me a bit of my bloody valentine. loved it.
second listen in the evening on headphones:
first song kind of half slaps.
mudrain still great.
no on has, really didn’t enjoy tonight.
if i think, enjoyed this one! 😆
very difficult EP to rate.
2.7/5
The Rolling Stones
2/5
i want to rage rate this a 2 because oh my it would’ve been impossible to get through if i hadn’t been cleaning at the same time.
5/5
i found an original vinyl from the release year at a small thrift store a few years ago and ofc i got it! such a great and iconic album.
she’s leaving home makes me tear up, such a beautiful song. every song on this album is just so good.
top tier beatles album for sure.
5+/5
Bauhaus
4/5
spotify doesn’t list the bonus tracks as usual so the album ends on “mask” and is about 35 mins long.
it was a cool album! i enjoyed it. had to listen twice to let it set in properly.
4/5
Deep Purple
4/5
i don’t enjoy this sound much, even tho i hear it’s all well done and the songs are good and stuff. ironically “when a blind man cries” was the only song i really loved and it’s not even on the original release.
i’ll probably give it a 4 but enjoyment wise it was a 3.
Violent Femmes
2/5
not for me lyrically so i didn’t enjoy this much. musically it’s quite cool i guess.
the chorus to gone daddy gone” sounds very much like the part in foo fighters “all my life” that goes “done done and i’m on to the next one”. also super cool solo of whatever cool instrument that is xD “gone daddy gone” is my fave song on the record, and mostly the only song i really enjoyed.
this sound in 1983 feels so early and ahead of its time, plus points for that.
2/5
Happy Mondays
1/5
Tom Waits
1/5
i don’t know what to say. i’m just…. i don’t mind weird stuff. i enjoy some weird stuff as long as it’s interesting and doesn’t make me feel like i want to scream into the void.
Beastie Boys
1/5
instant 1.
Tom Waits
1/5
i literally had to endure my first tom waits album two days ago and somehow the list read my 1 as “let’s give this person more tom waits” to suffer through for 70+ minutes.
tom waits is absolutely not for me. the spoken word style in general is something i don’t enjoy.
i will say “nobody” was quite nice, but i still really don’t fancy his voice style. the band was great tho. i would love the instrumentals.
1.5/2
Elvis Costello
3/5
it’s alright.
Aretha Franklin
5/5
ARETHA FRONKILN!!!!
Don McLean
3/5
american pie is 8 mins long!? oh dear.
yeah that’s too long. i’ve never actually heard the full song before. i don’t enjoy 😅
“vincent” is a classic and i love it.
i really enjoyed “the grave”.
other than those two there wasn’t much i was keen on. it was kind of nice but perhaps wasn’t in the mood for it.
Genesis
4/5
i saw it was 1h 34 mins long and i was dreading it, but to my surprise i actually enjoyed it. i had it on at work while scraping chewing gum off tables because teenage kids have no common sense. i quite like some prog rock stuff it seems!
i need to listen on headphones as well but so far the songs that stood out to me was Cuckoo Cocoon, Anyway and how it transition into the next song. there’s two songs i end up skipping because of the lyrics.
notes from the evening; In the Cage absolute banger. i also tried to learn Cuckoo Cocoon on my electric guitar and it was an absolute pain for my left hand joints to play 😆 amazing song tho. very very difficult to get those chords down smoothly tho.
4/5
Supergrass
3/5
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
Solange
3/5
a lyrically important album but it’s not really for me this one. there were a few songs i liked a lot.
songs i liked:
don’t you wait
junie
don’t wish me well
Grateful Dead
3/5
okay, i’ve been on a rollercoaster but i really liked a lot of this.
surprisingly i enjoyed the feedback track. judging from comments i thought it would be horrible but it was very cool!
if there weren’t two insanely long tracks i would’ve give this a 4. i just wanted those to end sooner rather than later even if there were nice parts in them.
fave songs have been:
st stephen
death don’t have no mercy
The Rolling Stones
2/5
5/5 for the cake vinyl artwork.
2/5 for the music.
Kraftwerk
4/5
i was excited to listen to this but the first song felt like an entire album to get through. for some reason felt really slow and massively long. i got tired of it after 15 mins or so.
okay mitternacht is the track that satisfies my brain the way i want it to. i loved it! same with the last track. very very nice.
if you think about how they did this in the 70’s well… it’s simply mind blowing really isn’t it. my enjoyment of the music have been more of a 4, with these last two tracks a 5.
how much do i want to include the influence and the fact that this was made in the 70’s? i don’t know. it was truly a very cool thing to accomplish this so early on, using synthesizers and drum machines but i think i need to be in the right mood to feel like it’s a 5 enjoyment wise.
Electric Light Orchestra
4/5
songs that i’ve loved:
night in the city
standing in the rain to mr blue sky suite is absolutely amazing!
also i have always loved the vocoder sound so it’s pretty fun to hear it this early in commercial music.
American Music Club
1/5
this feels like the equivalent of a bad hallmark movie
Pixies
1/5
The Damned
3/5
i think i’d enjoy this better with more listens. there’s a few songs i have enjoyed, in particular the ones that aren’t really pure punk, as i’m not really a fan of that genre.
my absolute fave was “plan 9 channel 7”. it reminded me of neil young and “cowgirl in the sand”.
i also liked “looking at you” - epic guitar solos.
“smash it up, pt 1” the instrumental one was great!
Van Halen
2/5
“jump” is a hit, not really something i’d put on myself but enjoy when i hear it elsewhere.
“house of pain” was great, it felt like the only “metal”, hard rock song on here.
most of these songs aren’t really my thing lyrically, or sound wise tbh. it’s too much.
2/5
Rahul Dev Burman
3/5
quite nice and fun
Terence Trent D'Arby
3/5
my thoughts on “sign your name” - I KNOW THIS SONG!!
very MJ vocals and Prince sounding.
Public Image Ltd.
1/5
music is obviously very subjective so saying something is terrible is only correct for me, but my ears have been in pain for the first 9 minutes of the album. i even turned the 2.5k channel down.
public image the song itself was really nice tbh. first song i even remotely liked. i can def hear the post punk sounds in that song. reminds me of joy division and the likes.
low life has a good sound to it. also post punkey.
last song is very “what on earth” 😆 very fun haha
difficult one to rate for me. it’s more a 1.5/5 😅
Paul McCartney and Wings
5/5
JET!!!!
absolutely iconic album by one of my absolute favourite songwriters ever.
X-Ray Spex
3/5
+ points for saxophones.
Fairport Convention
5/5
what an absolute delight of a find! this is right up my street. hadn’t heard of this band before. quite a history and tragic things to read in relation to it but yeah, fantastic album.
i only really found one song to be somewhat “weak” and that’s the dylan song “percy’s song”.
my absolute favourite is “autopsy” - WOOOOW!?!?!? obsessed. literally. the bass line is amazing. i love everything about it. the changes. jazz. folk. pink floyd vibes. it’s just amazing.
very nice to have found this on the list!

now This is country music. love it.

i did quite enjoy it, but it didn’t grab me as much as other electronic albums i’ve heard on the list so far. not sure how to rate it, it’s a high 3 but also a very low 4?
pacific 202 was my favorite. absolutely love the mix of saxophone with all the other sounds.
Elis Regina

Queen
5/5
it’s queen. it’s a night at the opera. it’s a 5!
The Velvet Underground
3/5
MGMT
3/5
it was decent but nothing i love or will return to. i knew kids and electric feel beforehand. kids being the song i much prefer out of those two.
of moons, birds & monsters is my fave song from this album. i enjoyed it a lot! i’m actually going to add this to my playlist.
Led Zeppelin
3/5
Paul Simon
3/5
don’t hate it, don’t love it.
“call me al” is iconic.
John Martyn
4/5
i hadn’t heard of this artist but very much enjoyed this album! it fit my exhausted mood so well. it had nice chill songs but also more uptempo ones. good pacing and Loved all the sounds of the epic guitar technique, the acoustic bass and the electric piano.
fave songs;
don’t want to know
may you never
the man in the station
my only complaint is sometimes the mumbly voice gets too mumbly for my taste, but i think it’s more a thing of getting used to it. most of the times it’s fine.
4.5/5
Bobby Womack
3/5
Gary Numan
3/5
i don’t love it. the vocals truly aren’t my thing. i feel bored listening. i don’t even know why but this isn’t hitting me at all.
on a positive note, i really liked the dark sound of Films. i know Cars is a hit song.. it’s not bad. but Films has been the only song i loved.
it gets a low 3 as it’s not terrible, still quite listenable with a lots of patience, but def not great.
David Bowie
4/5
a lad insane
not my favourite bowie album but it has some amazing songs and i still enjoy listening to it if i put it on. the title track is sooo cool. my fave from the album is Lady Grinning Soul.
4.5/5
The Police
4/5
am i crazy for saying the song i enjoyed the most is Mother? 😆 i am literally LOLing at this song. it’s so out of place and what on earth 😆 took me by surprise.
quite enjoyed this album!
a solid 4 stars

oh so this band made Karma Chameleon!
Doves
3/5
IT’S NOTHING LIKE COLDPLAY! 😤
with that out of the way;
i rly love Words, and Caught By the River, the latter has been an iconic song to me for many many years. the album in general is kind of a same sound which makes the 53 mins too long. it’s hitting me nicely today tho, i struggled the first time so just goes to show some albums needs to be tried at different times.
fave songs;
words
satellite
friday’s dust
last broadcast
caught by the river
Kraftwerk
5/5
i loved it!
the recurring melody synth in the first song, to franz schubert to the last outro song is so good. ties it all up nicely.
franz schubert was really nice brain massage with the panning. reminded me slightly of the stuff tangerine dream did in phaedra.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Stevie Wonder
5/5
i listened to my first stevie wonder album, this one, back in december last year (2024) from a friend’s recommendation at the time when we started this project in a discord server.
absolutely amazing album! love it so much.
“living for the city” is a masterpiece: lyrically powerful, stevie played all the instrumentals himself, which he did for the most part of thee album. just amazing!
“all in love is fair” is an incredibly beautiful song where stevie’s voice really shines so strong!
the vocal walk in the chorus of “don’t you worry about a thing” is one of the coolest things ever and i’m obsessed.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Def Leppard
3/5
again just a solid album that i don’t really love nor hate. it’s just not my kind of genre in general, but i def see the appeal in the sound. it’s fun, easy to listen to and slaps enough.
when “too late for love” came on i actually liked it a lot. at least sonically it slapped. the following song also kind of slaps i guess. “foolin’” was nice. there’s been some nice guitar riffs here and there throughout the album.
3/5
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Eagles
3/5
“take it easy” is an iconic eagles song, “witchy woman” was great and “train leaves here this morning” was beautiful.
the rest is just okay and the absolute worst song on the album is “most of us are sad” - 😅 even the vocals sound out of tune or something. i don’t know, i didn’t enjoy that song at all.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Paul Simon
4/5
i loved this so much more than graceland 💚
fave songs;
duncan
me and julio down by the schoolyard
peace like a river
4.7/5
a 4 here for now, i feel like i need more time with this one to let it sink in to a 5.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bee Gees
⭐️⭐️
ABBA
5/5
i’m swedish and have never really listened to ABBA other than the hits, so i have been curious if there’s more to them than just a hits band.
it’s a pleasant surprise to me that i absolutely love this album. it’s grown on me since i first listened to it half heartedly a few months ago. the production sounds nice and clear, even if it feels a bit dated sometimes i really don’t mind. i love the songs so much. i did try to listen to the deluxe versions as well but it sounds so much worse. more tinnier and weak sound. (Arrival will be a nightmare to try listen to on spotify as it’s awful on there. i desp need the ABBA gold remasters for the whole Arrival album)
what i immediately got obsessed with is the insane vocal riffs in Head Over Heels. what an absolute banger of a song! amazing.
the songs i knew before were One Of Us and Slipping Through My Fingers. the latter is probably my fave ABBA song.
just amazing album all around. Cassandra is such a beautiful song as well. I Let the Music Speak is such a great example of their musical theatre writing. this was an early example of the path Benny and Björn would go down, writing musicals like Chess. the title track hits so hard in the chorus, it sounds a bit like Roxette, but without the heavy guitars. Soldiers another amazing song.
i’m happy to give this a 5.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Beth Orton
2/5
this just didn’t work for me today. it’s so long and so slow and “boring”. the first song is an absolute banger tho, but it isn’t enough to save the 2 star rating. if it had stayed at about 35 mins i would’ve probably had more patience with it but at an hour long i just can’t manage this. the last half of the album is painfully slow.
⭐️⭐️
The Beach Boys
5/5
hot take: surf’s up > pet sounds ?
i really enjoyed this album! i’ve let it simmer for a while and after having returned to it on several occasions i conclude that this is a 5 and that i really love the darker sound to it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fela Kuti
3/5
i have enjoyed fela kuti’s studio albums that i’ve had so far on this project, but i always struggle with properly engaging in live album. this one in particular drags on quite a bit. they are no doubt very talented and i bet it would’ve been amazing to see this live.
even just cooking to this album i wanted to change music at times. i was very engaged at first. then yeah, got bored of it i guess.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Moby
3/5
this is such a tricky album to rate.. it’s an absolute rollercoaster of “this slaps” and “i can’t take this”. i wanted to rage rate it but i’ll give it a 3…
songs i’ve enjoyed:
honey
porcelain
why does my heart feel so bad (really love this one)
rushing
bodyrock
everloving
inside
my weakness
natural blues is obviously amazing too.
still a 3 star album for me.. too many songs, too long and too repetitive in ways that have annoyed me so much at times.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Janis Joplin
5/5
this is just incredible?! what a voice!
fave song: a woman left lonely
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Sugarcubes
4/5
this slaps!! absolutely love björk’s voice.
fave songs: traitor, mama, coldsweat
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Beck
4/5
what a great album! it doesn’t quite reach up to a 5 yet for me but i really love these vibes.
the first song is an absolute banger. the strings on ‘missing’ feels very like beck’s album ‘sea change’ vibes.
‘broken drum’ is beautiful. ‘scarecrow’ is amazing and ‘go it alone’ with jack white on the bass is epic!
it does feel slightly too long atm. that’s my only complaint.
4.5/5

Count Basie & His Orchestra

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
3/5
short and sweet inoffensive badabop pop.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Pretenders
3/5
i have never gotten into the mood for this sound and i am tired of waiting around for it to happen.
wanted to give it a 2 but feel like it deserves a 3. there were some very nice bass lines somewhere.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Charles Mingus
3/5
this is not the easiest listen for someone who don’t love jazz. i enjoy piano based jazz without much else in it but yeah, this is quite chaotic feeling at times but can tell it’s of great quality.
3.5/5
Cat Stevens
5/5
an absolute delight of an album! i know a few of cat steven’s famous songs but have never listened to a full album.
my fave song is probably Sad Lisa. wow!! it was unknown to me and it just grabs me. such a beautiful song.
another clear 5 star album.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Norah Jones
5/5
i remember listening to this album many many years back. it was really nice to revisit it. it’s such a nice, comforting sound.
i learned this time around that ”don’t know why” is in fact a cover. jesse harris ended up working a lot with norah and has quite a few songs on this album. he also plays acoustic guitar here.
a classic 5 star album for me
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Muddy Waters
3/5
the only song i really enjoyed was “the blues had a baby and they named it rock and roll”. it had very nice guitar solos.
instrumental skills are off the charts from everyone ofc.
i just don’t love this.

Metallica
2/5
TIL i cannot stand a full Metallica album 😅
i obv knew the three hits beforehand, enter sandman, the unforgiven and nothing else matters.
the unforgiven the best song on here, every other song besides the hits are absolutely tedious to get through. i noticed am absolutely not a fan of this sound 😆 and i say this having learned nothing else matters on the guitar very early when i picked up the instrument.
YEAH YEAH!!
WOAH WOAH!!
look up joshua woo’s parodies of metallica on social media. it’s spot on.

Echo And The Bunnymen

like the previous echo and the bunnymen album i had, it truly doesn’t interest or excite me. i’d rather do a dive into the cure’s discography.

Motörhead
1/5
this is giving me a headache… the longest 36 mins ever?
The 13th Floor Elevators
2/5
roller coaster has quite a cool sound.
splash 1 is quite lovely.
the electric jug being so prominent in every single song is really starting to annoy me.
i listened to the original track listing versions decided by the band. nothing interested me enough to want to listen to another mix.
all in all… didn’t really love it much.

Keith Jarrett

Antony and the Johnsons
3/5
”hope there’s someone” is a song i am sure i’ve heard before, i like that one.
Eagles
4/5
i discovered the eagles through my dad when i was young, i remember we used to watch the hell freezes over DVD and i loved it. that said, i have never listened to a full eagles album until the last few months, and setting aside don henley’s personality - i quite like this album. it’s not amazing but i really love a few songs on here.
wasted time is such a beautiful song that is probably at the top of my eagles songs.
4/5
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dire Straits
4/5
i grew up listening to mark knopfler but never actually listened to dire straits until the last year or so. i absolutely love the debut album but this one isn’t quite up to that greatness for me, it’s still a great album and i enjoy it.
4/5
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
k.d. lang
4/5
absolutely love Season of Hollow Soul, it has such an ABBA sounding chorus! very cool song.
this is a nice and cosy album, nothing in particular stands out until i heard that ABBA style chorus but i quite enjoy cosy albums like this where everything kind of blends together. it works really well for relaxing before going to sleep.
absolutely beautiful voice too wow! and the arrangements are amazing. sounding so good.
4.5/5
🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
The Stooges
4/5
very interesting album and not what i expected. quite good.
just short of a 4 for me, probably a 3.5 not sure. but i’ll give it a 4 for the influence it had on the music to come.
Pulp
3/5
overall it’s okay. lyrically not an album for me. the bowie sounds makes me want to listen to bowie instead.
fave song: the fear
glory days was also kind of a banger.
